Background of the invention

[0001] The invention relates to an arrangement for handling drill bits in rock drilling.

[0042] Figure 1 shows a rock drilling rig 1 comprising a carrier 2, at least one drilling boom 3 and a drilling unit 4 at e distal end portion of the boom 3. The drilling unit 4 comprises a feed beam 5 and a rock drilling machine 6 supported on the feed beam 5 and arranged to be move longitudinally along drilling axis by means of a feed device. Drilling tools 7, such as drill rods 8 and drill bits 9 may be fastened to the drilling machine 6 for directing impact pulses and rotation to rock surface being drilled. The drill bits 9 wear and may be damaged, wherefore there is a need to provide new drill bits 9 for ensuring efficient rock drilling.

Claims

1. An arrangement for handling drill bits (9) used for drilling drill holes (13) to a rock surface, wherein the arrangement comprises: a rock drilling rig (1) provided with a movable carrier (2) and at least one drilling boom (3) mounted movably on the carrier (2) and provided with a rock drilling unit (4) comprising a feed beam (5) and a rock drilling machine (6) mounted movably on the feed beam (5); at least one control unit (CU) for controlling operation of the rock drilling rig (1); and at least one drill bit storage for storing at least one drill bit (9) which is mountable and detachable to a drilling tool (7) mountable to the rock drilling machine (6) ; characterized in that the arrangement is configured to implement at least one drilled drill bit storage (10) which is outside the rock drilling rig (1) and is formed by drilling at least one drill hole (11) to the rock surface; the control unit (CU) is configured to manage position data of the drilled drill bit storage (10) for assisting pickup of the drill bit (9) from the drilled drill bit storage (10).

The arrangement as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the control unit (CU) is configured to determine position data (21) of the drilled drill bit storage (10) in response to sensing data received from at least one sensing device (S) configured to determine the position of the rock drilling unit (4) when drilling of the drilled drill bit storage (10) is executed; the arrangement comprises at least one memory device (24) for storing the determined position data (21) of the drilled drill bit storage (10); and wherein the control unit (CU) is configured to position the rock drilling unit (4) automatically to the drilled drill bit storage (10) in response to a control command to pick up the stored drill bit (9) from the drilled drill bit storage (10).

3. The arrangement as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the arrangement comprises a selectable pickup feature for automatically moving the rock drilling unit (4) at the selected storage place (12) of the drilled drill bit storage (10).

4. The arrangement as claimed in any one of the preceding claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the arrangement is provided with a drill bit storage system (29) comprising several drilled drill bit storages (10) distributed at several different locations at a drilling site.

5. The arrangement as claimed in any one of the preceding claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the position of the drilled drill bit storage (10) is preselected in accordance with a drilling plan (27).

The arrangement as claimed in any one of the preceding claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the control unit (CU) comprises a user interface (UI) for providing the control unit (CU) instructions for drilling at least one drilled drill bit storage (10) to a position instructed by an operator (14).

7. The arrangement as claimed in any one of the preceding claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the drill bit storage place (12) of the drilled drill bit storage (10) is drilled to the rock surface with a downwardly oblique angle orientation.

8. The arrangement as claimed in any one of the preceding claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the arrangement implements several drilled drill bit storages (10, 10a - 10e), and the control unit (CU) is configured to manage data on the drill bits (9) stored in the drilled drill bit storages (10).

The arrangement as claimed in claim 8, characterized in that the control unit (CU) is configured to manage status data on the drill bits (9) stored in the drilled drill bit storages (10), whereby the control unit (CU) is configured to classify the drill bits (9) into a new drill bit category and into a used drill bit category.

10. The arrangement as claimed in claim 8 or 9, characterized in that the control unit (CU) is configured to manage characterizing data on the drill bits (9) stored in the drilled drill bit storages (10).

11. A method of handling drill bits (9) of a rock drilling rig (1), wherein the method comprises: storing at least one drill bit (9) into at least one drill bit storage; coupling and uncoupling the drill bit (9) to a drilling tool (7) mounted to a rock drilling machine (6) of a rock drilling unit (4) of the rock drilling rig (1); and positioning the rock drilling unit (4) to the drill bit storage for picking the drill bit (9) from the drill bit storage by means of the rock drilling unit (4); characterized by forming at least one drilled drill bit storage (10) by drilling at least one drill hole (11) to a rock surface surrounding the rock drilling rig (1); and managing position data (21) of the drilled drill bit storage (10) by means of at least one control unit (CU) for assisting pickup of the drill bit (10) from the drilled drill bit storage (10).
