Description

Human-machine interface with selection wheel, heating and / or cooling system comprising it, and controlled mechanical ventilation system comprising it

[0001] The present invention relates to the field of human-machine interfaces, and relates in particular to a human-machine interface with a selection wheel comprising at least one fixed backlit pattern or pictogram, as well as to a heating and / or cooling system comprising such a human-machine interface and to a controlled mechanical ventilation system comprising such a human-machine interface.

[0002] In the field of household appliances in particular, a human-machine interface (HMI) is the part that allows the user to communicate with the household appliance. The most basic versions of HMIs generally consist of buttons or dials, possibly coupled with one or more indicator lights.

[0003] It is common for buttons to be coupled with indicator lights, with many prefabricated solutions available on the market. However, it is less common for indicator lights to be coupled with rotary controls such as a thumbwheel, and in this case the indicator function rarely includes signage such as a luminous pictogram. This lack of luminous graphics is mainly due to the fact that the pictogram rotates in conjunction with the thumbwheel and thus loses its legibility. The pictogram must therefore be moved away from the thumbwheel to maintain its legibility.

[0004] According to another existing solution, the wheel is replaced by a control ring surrounding a fixed indicator light, the latter then being able to be a luminous pictogram. However, this other existing solution is complex and expensive to manufacture, due to the arrangement of an additional rotation transmission means between the control ring and the rotary control receiver assembly of the device.

[0005] PCT international application WO2009 / 153185A1 discloses a control wheel. However, this existing control wheel does not allow the formation of a backlit pattern that remains fixed regardless of the angular position of the control wheel.

[0006] European patent application EP1102294A2 discloses a rotary dial incorporating a push button, the presence of which is essential to enable the formation of a backlit pattern on it. However, the presence of the push button makes this human-machine interface complex and expensive to manufacture.

[0007] The present invention aims to resolve the drawbacks of the prior art, by proposing a human-machine interface with a selection wheel having at least one backlit pattern or pictogram which remains fixed regardless of the angular position of the selection wheel.

[0008] The present invention therefore relates to a human-machine interface comprising: a support; a selection wheel rotatably mounted on the support; a front panel comprising a projecting part which matches the shape of the front part of the selection wheel so that the selection wheel is sandwiched between the support and the front panel, said projecting part comprising at least one opening arranged opposite a part of the lateral edge of the selection wheel and allowing access to the selection wheel by a user; a lighting system fixed to the support, arranged opposite the rear face of the selection wheel and configured, when switched on, to emit at least one light in the direction of the selection wheel;and a hole provided in the support opposite the selection wheel so as to allow the passage therethrough of the at least one light coming from the lighting system, the selection wheel comprising at least one light passage zone which is provided opposite said hole in the support and which is configured to allow the passage therethrough of the at least one light coming from the lighting system; characterized in that the projecting part of the facade further comprises at least one light passage zone which is provided opposite the at least one light passage zone of the selection wheel and which is configured to allow the passage therethrough of the at least one light coming from the lighting system so as to form at least one backlit pattern or pictogram which remains fixed whatever the angular position of the selection wheel.;

[0009] Thus, the present invention provides a human-machine interface which comprises a rotary control of the selection wheel type and which is provided with at least one fixed and backlit phantom pattern or pictogram which is arranged at the front of the selection wheel.

[0010] When the lighting system is switched on, the light produced by the lighting system thus successively passes through the hole made in the support, the light passage zone of the selection wheel and then the light passage zone of the front panel, which makes it possible to backlight the at least one pattern or pictogram formed by the light passage zone of the front panel. The at least one backlit pattern or pictogram thus makes it possible to transmit information to a user positioned in front of the human-machine interface.

[0011] The present invention thus makes it possible to purify the visual appearance of the human-machine interface by using a phantom pattern or pictogram. When the lighting system is off, only the uniform wall of the facade is visible to the user, whereas, when the lighting system is on, the phantom pattern or pictogram appears to the user by backlighting.

[0012] Since the at least one backlit pattern or pictogram is arranged on the front panel, and not directly on the selection wheel, it remains fixed even when the user rotates the selection wheel (via the at least one opening provided in the front panel), which makes it possible to maintain the legibility of the backlit pattern or pictogram formed on the front of the selection wheel.

[0013] The front panel and the support allow the selection wheel to be trapped between them, ensuring angular clamping of the selection wheel if necessary.

[0014] The hole made in the support (preferably in its central area) and the at least one light passage zone of the selection wheel (preferably also in its central area) make it possible to restrict the light beam(s) coming from the lighting system, and to define the zone(s) of the projecting part of the facade which will be backlit by the lighting system.

[0015] The present invention thus makes it possible to produce with a reduced number of parts a human-machine interface function equipped with a rotating selection wheel and at least one central, fixed and backlit motif or pictogram.

[0016] In the event that several backlit patterns or pictograms are formed on the projecting part of the facade, the patterns or pictograms may be backlit together or independently.

[0017] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the at least one light passage zone of the selection wheel is transparent, and the at least one light passage zone of the front panel is one of transparent and translucent; or the at least one light passage zone of the selection wheel is translucent, and the at least one light passage zone of the front panel is transparent.

[0018] Thus, at least one of the light passage zones of the selection wheel and the front panel must be transparent, the other being either translucent or also transparent, so as to allow the backlighting of the at least one pattern or pictogram.

[0019] For example, the front face of the selection wheel could constitute its light-transmitting area and be made of a transparent material or a translucent material. The selection wheel could also take the form of a truncated cone, in which case its light-transmitting area would be an opening (transparent by nature).

[0020] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the at least one light passage zone of the facade forming the at least one backlit pattern or pictogram is at least one of: - at least one thinned zone formed by thinning the wall of the projecting part of the facade; - at least one opening made in the projecting part of the facade; and - at least one non-opacified zone of the projecting part of the facade, the remainder of the projecting part of the facade being opacified by application of an opacifying agent.

[0021] In the case where the at least one light passage zone of the facade consists of at least one thinned zone (for example, at least one groove), the at least one thinned zone is then translucent, then the at least one light passage zone of the selection wheel must be transparent.

[0022] In the case where the at least one light passage zone of the facade consists of at least one opening (for example, at least one slot), the at least one opening is then transparent, so that the at least one light passage zone of the selection wheel can be either transparent or translucent.

[0023] In the case where the at least one light passage zone of the facade consists of at least one non-opacified zone (for example produced by masking or pad printing), the at least one non-opacified zone may be either transparent or translucent depending on the nature of the material making up the projecting part of the facade.

[0024] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the at least one light passage zone of the facade forming the at least one backlit pattern or pictogram is at least one thinned zone formed by thinning the wall of the projecting part of the facade, the thickness of the at least one thinned zone of the facade being less than or equal to 40% of the thickness of the non-thinned zone of the facade.

[0025] Thus, the reduced thickness of at least one thinned area of the facade makes it translucent, unlike the rest of the facade which remains opaque.

[0026] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the at least one light passage zone of the selection wheel has a thickness greater than or equal to 2 mm.

[0027] Thus, the selection wheel is of a minimum thickness sufficient to ensure reinforced insulation, so that the devices (for example, water heaters) on which the HMI is installed can meet standard constraints for reinforced insulation.

[0028] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, a shaft is arranged coaxially at the rear of the selection wheel and passes through the hole provided in the support, the free end of said shaft being configured to be connected to a rotary control receiver assembly.

[0029] The selector wheel shaft thus transmits the rotary movement of the selector wheel to the rotary control receiver assembly.

[0030] The bracket holds the rotary control receiver assembly and the lighting system, while ensuring coaxiality with the selector wheel shaft.

[0031] Advantageously, the rotary control receiver assembly and the lighting system are mounted on a printed circuit board itself mounted (preferably clipped) on the HMI support to hold a “card edge” type connector.

[0032] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the lighting system is configured to emit at least one light, each light having an intensity selected from a plurality of predefined intensities and a color selected from a plurality of predefined colors, so as to communicate particular information via the at least one backlit pattern or pictogram.

[0033] Thus, the different light intensities or the different colors of the lighting system make it possible to communicate different information to the user by means of the backlighting of at least one pattern or pictogram.

[0034] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the selection wheel comprises on its front face one or more positioning indicator patterns, the projecting part of the front further comprising at least one transparent indicator visibility zone, such as at least one opening, making at least one of the positioning indicator pattern(s) visible depending on the angular position of the selection wheel.

[0035] Thus, the user can know the adjustment position of the selection wheel by observing the positioning indicator(s) which are visible through the at least one transparent indicator visibility area of the projecting part of the front panel.

[0036] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the part of the selection wheel on which the positioning indicator pattern(s) are arranged is transparent or translucent, the at least one transparent indicator visibility zone of the projecting part of the front panel also being arranged opposite the hole made in the support, such that, when the lighting system is switched on, the positioning indicator pattern(s) located at the level of the at least one transparent indicator visibility zone are backlit by the lighting system.

[0037] Thus, light from the lighting system can successively pass through the hole provided in the support, the transparent or translucent part of the selection wheel on which the positioning indicator pattern(s) are arranged, then the at least one transparent indicator visibility zone of the projecting part of the front panel, which allows backlighting of the positioning indicator pattern(s) located at the level of the at least one transparent indicator visibility zone.

[0038] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the lighting system comprises at least one lighting source configured to backlight the at least one pattern or pictogram and at least one lighting source configured to backlight the positioning indicator pattern(s) located at the level of the at least one transparent indicator visibility zone of the facade, the support further comprising at least one separating wall arranged transversely in the hole made in the support so as to sectorize the lighting zones corresponding respectively to the positioning indicator patterns and to the at least one pattern or pictogram.

[0039] Thus, the separating wall makes it possible to separate the light beam in the direction of the at least one backlit pattern or pictogram from the light beam in the direction of the backlit positioning indicator patterns, said light beams being able, for example, to have different intensities and / or different colors and being able to be lit independently of one another.

[0040] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the support and the front are fixed together in a removable manner by elastic fitting.

[0041] The support can, for example, be clipped onto the facade using four blades ensuring its centering.

[0042] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the selection wheel is made of a thermoplastic material such as polycarbonate (PC), polyethylene (PE), or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and the front is made of a thermoplastic material such as polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).

[0043] The selection wheel and the front panel are made of injectable plastic material, so that the at least one backlit pattern or pictogram formed in the front panel can be easily modified during mass production in an injection mold, by means of inserts located in a non-aesthetic area.

[0044] The injectable plastic material can be either naturally transparent (such as PC), or naturally translucent, or made translucent by loading it with coloring.

[0045] According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the lighting system comprises one of: one or more light sources, such as light-emitting diodes or halogen lamps; and at least one light source reflected by a mirror.

[0046] So, when the lighting system has multiple light sources, each light source can have different intensity and color characteristics.

[0047] Alternatively, the use of at least one mirror-reflected light source helps to conceal the shadow of the selector wheel shaft and also facilitates the use of multiple sources.

[0048] The present invention also relates to a heating and / or cooling system comprising at least one human-machine interface as described above as a temperature selection device.

[0049] Thus, the human-machine interface allows the set temperature of the heating and / or cooling system to be adjusted by acting on the selection dial.

[0050] The heating and / or cooling system may, for example, control the HMI lighting system to backlight the HMI pattern or pictogram only when the heating / cooling unit is in operation.

[0051] Alternatively, the heating and / or cooling system could also control the HMI lighting system to backlight the HMI pattern or pictogram in a different color when the heating / cooling unit is in operation.

[0052] The present invention further relates to a controlled mechanical ventilation system comprising at least one human-machine interface as described above as a ventilation power selection device.

[0053] Thus, the human-machine interface allows the set ventilation power of the controlled mechanical ventilation system to be adjusted by acting on the selection dial.

[0054] The controlled mechanical ventilation system can, for example, control the HMI lighting system to backlight the HMI pattern or pictogram only when the controlled mechanical ventilation system is in operation.

[0055] To better illustrate the object of the present invention, a preferred embodiment will be described below, by way of illustration and not limitation, with reference to the appended drawings.

[0056] On these drawings:

[0057] is a front perspective view of a human-machine interface according to the present invention;

[0058] is a rear perspective view of the human-machine interface according to the present invention;

[0059] is an exploded front perspective view of the human-machine interface according to the present invention;

[0060] is an exploded rear perspective view of the human-machine interface according to the present invention;

[0061] is a vertical sectional view of the human-machine interface according to the present invention;

[0062] is a horizontal sectional view of the human-machine interface according to the present invention;

[0063] is a vertical sectional view of the human-machine interface according to a variant of the present invention; and

[0064] is a front view of a water heater equipped with a human-machine interface according to the present invention.

[0065] Referring to Figures 1 to 6, it can be seen that a human-machine interface 1 is shown there according to a particular embodiment of the present invention.

[0066] The human-machine interface 1 comprises a support 2 comprising a flat part 2a on the periphery of which a rim 2b is formed, a prominence 2c of truncated cone shape being provided in the center of the flat part 2a of the support 2.

[0067] The human-machine interface 1 further comprises a selection wheel 3 having a truncated cone shape complementary to that of the protrusion 2c of the support 2, said selection wheel 3 being rotatably mounted on the protrusion 2c of the support 2.

[0068] The human-machine interface 1 also comprises a front panel 4 comprising a flat part 4a on the periphery of which a rim 4b is formed, a projecting part 4c of substantially truncated cone shape being provided in the center of the flat part 4a and matching the shape of the front part of the selection wheel 3, such that the selection wheel 3 is sandwiched between the support 2 and the front panel 4, which makes it possible to easily perform an angular clamping function.

[0069] The projecting portion 4c of the faceplate 4 includes two opposite lateral openings 5 exposing the lateral edge 3a of the selection wheel 3, so as to allow a user to turn the selection wheel 3 to make an adjustment.

[0070] The selection wheel 3 has a shaft 3b arranged coaxially at the rear thereof and passing through a hole 6 formed in the protrusion 2c of the support 2. The free end of the shaft 3b of the selection wheel 3 is inserted into a rotary control receiver assembly 7 configured to determine the angular position of the selection wheel 3 by detecting the rotational movements of its shaft 3b.

[0071] The rotary control receiver assembly 7 is mounted on a printed circuit board 8 itself clipped to the rear of the flat part 2a of the support 2 to hold a “card edge” type connector.

[0072] The human-machine interface 1 further comprises a lighting system 9 mounted on the printed circuit board 8, arranged opposite the rear face of the selection wheel 3, and configured, when lit, to emit light in the direction of the selection wheel 3.

[0073] A control unit of the device on which the human-machine interface 1 is installed is connected to the printed circuit board 8 (via the “card edge” type connector) so as to allow said control unit to control the rotary control receiver assembly 7 and the lighting system 9 of the human-machine interface 1.

[0074] The lighting system 9 consists of three light-emitting diodes 9a, 9b and 9c mounted on the printed circuit board 8.

[0075] It should be noted that the lighting system 9 could also comprise any number of light-emitting diodes, or any number of halogen lamps or at least one mirror-reflected light source, without departing from the scope of the present invention.

[0076] The three light-emitting diodes 9a, 9b and 9c are arranged opposite the hole 6 made in the protrusion 2c of the support 2, such that said hole 6 allows the passage therethrough of the light coming from the lighting system 9 in the direction of the rear face of the selection wheel 3.

[0077] The front flat face 3c of the selection wheel 3 is made of a transparent material and constitutes a light passage zone opposite the hole 6 in the support 2, said transparent front face 3c of the selection wheel 3 thus allowing the passage therethrough of light coming from the lighting system 9.

[0078] The front panel 4 is made of an opaque material. However, a water drop-shaped pictogram (or pattern) 10 is formed by thinning the wall at the rear of the front flat face of the projecting portion 4c of the front panel 4, such that the projecting portion 4c of the front panel 4 is translucent at the location where its wall is thinned (or grooved), i.e. at the location where the pictogram 10 is formed, and thus constitutes a light passage zone arranged opposite the transparent front face 3c of the selection wheel 3, such that the pictogram 10 can be backlit by the lighting system 9 and thus become visible by backlighting for a user located at the front of the human-machine interface 1.

[0079] Since the backlit pictogram 10 is formed on the front panel 4, and not directly on the selection wheel 3, it remains fixed regardless of the angular position of the selection wheel 3, which guarantees its readability.

[0080] It should be noted that the pictogram 10 could also take any other form, without departing from the scope of the present invention.

[0081] Furthermore, several pictograms 10 (backlit jointly or independently) could also be formed on the projecting part 4c of the facade 4, without departing from the scope of the present invention.

[0082] In practice, when the light-emitting diodes (LEDs) 9a and 9b of the lighting system 9 are switched on, the light produced by these two LEDs 9a and 9b successively passes through the hole 6 made in the support 2, the transparent front face 3c of the selection wheel 3, then the translucent thinned zone of the projecting part 4c of the front panel 4, which makes it possible to backlight the pictogram 10 to transmit information to a user positioned at the front of the human-machine interface 1.

[0083] When the lighting system 9 is switched off, only the uniform front wall of the projecting part 4c of the facade 4 is visible to the user (the pictogram 10 is then not visible), whereas, when the lighting system 9 is switched on, the phantom pictogram 10 appears to the user by backlighting.

[0084] It should be noted that the front flat face 3c of the selection wheel 3 could also be made of a translucent material, or consist of an opening (by nature transparent), without departing from the scope of the present invention.

[0085] Furthermore, the area of the projecting part 4c of the facade 4 forming the phantom pictogram 10 could also be made of any transparent or translucent material, or even by an opening for example of the slit type (transparent by nature), without departing from the scope of the present invention.

[0086] Alternatively, the phantom pictogram 10 could also be formed by a non-opacified area of the projecting part 4c of the facade 4, the remainder of the projecting part 4c of the facade 4 being opacified by application of an opacifying agent (for example, by pad printing or masking), the non-opacified area being able to be either transparent or translucent depending on the nature of the material making up the facade 4.

[0087] The selection wheel 3 may be made of a thermoplastic material such as polycarbonate (PC), polyethylene (PE), or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).

[0088] The front panel 4 can be made of a thermoplastic material such as polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), such that the backlit pictogram 10 formed in the front panel 4 can be easily modified during mass production in an injection mold by means of inserts located in a non-aesthetic area.

[0089] The thickness of the thinned area forming pictogram 10 of the facade 4 is less than or equal to 40% of the thickness of the rest of the facade 4, so as to make the thinned area translucent unlike the rest of the facade 4 which remains opaque.

[0090] The transparent front face 3c of the selection wheel 3 has a thickness greater than or equal to 2 mm, so as to ensure reinforced insulation necessary when the human-machine interface 1 is installed on a device which must meet standard constraints of reinforced insulation (such as a water heater).

[0091] The selection wheel 3 includes on its front face 3c several 3d positioning indicator patterns which can, for example, correspond to several set temperature indications in the case of a human-machine interface 1 intended for a water heater or a radiator.

[0092] The front face of the projecting portion 4c of the facade 4 comprises, as a transparent indicator visibility area, an opening 11 (transparent by nature) for exposing one of the 3d positioning indicator patterns depending on the angular position of the selection wheel 3, which allows the user to know the adjustment position of the selection wheel 3 in the human-machine interface 1.

[0093] It should be noted that the opening 11 could also be replaced by a transparent material, without departing from the scope of the present invention.

[0094] Since the front face 3c of the selection dial 3 on which the positioning indicator patterns 3d are arranged is transparent, the opening 11 is arranged opposite the hole 6 in the holder 2, and the light-emitting diode 9c of the lighting system 9 is arranged opposite the opening 11, when the light-emitting diode 9c of the lighting system 9 is turned on, the positioning indicator pattern 9d located at the opening 11 is backlit by the light from the light-emitting diode 9c.

[0095] Each of the light-emitting diodes 9a, 9b and 9c of the lighting system 9 can be controlled so as to emit light having an intensity selected from a plurality of predefined intensities and a color selected from a plurality of predefined colors, thereby communicating one or more particular pieces of information to the user.

[0096] The edge 2b of the support 2 carries four blades 12 which allow the removable fixing of the support 2 in the facade 4 by elastic fitting, by cooperating with four protuberances 14 formed on the internal face of the edge 4b of the facade 4.

[0097] Likewise, the edge 4b of the facade 4 carries four blades 13 which allow the removable fixing by elastic fitting of the human-machine interface 1 in an orifice formed in a device intended to receive the human-machine interface 1.

[0098] The selection wheel 3 has at the rear a first lip 15 configured to be in contact with the rear face of the front panel 4 and a second lip 16 configured to be in contact with the front face of the support 2, so as to allow resistance of the human-machine interface 1 to liquid splashes, which allows the installation of the human-machine interface 1 on devices that must comply with the IPX5 standard such as water heaters.

[0099] If we refer to the, we can see that the human-machine interface 1 is represented there according to a variant of the particular embodiment.

[0100] In this variant, the human-machine interface 1 further comprises a separating wall 18 arranged transversely in the hole 6 provided in the support 2, so as to sectorize the lighting zones corresponding respectively to the 3d positioning indicator patterns (i.e., the light coming from the LED 9c) and to the pictogram 10 (i.e., the light coming from the LEDs 9a and 9b).

[0101] Furthermore, the LED 9c and the assembly consisting of the two LEDs 9a and 9b may have different intensities and / or different colors, and may be lit independently of each other.

[0102] Referring to the, it can be seen that there is shown a household appliance 17 such as a heating and / or cooling system or a controlled mechanical ventilation system, equipped with a human-machine interface 1 according to the present invention.

[0103] The household appliance 17 may, for example, be a water heater. The control unit (not shown in the) of the water heater-type household appliance 17 is then connected to the printed circuit board 8 of the human-machine interface 1, and the human-machine interface 1 is used to adjust / select the set temperature of the water heater-type household appliance 17 by rotating its selection wheel 3.

[0104] The pictogram 10 in the form of a water droplet may, for example, be backlit in red when the heating element of the water heater-type household appliance 17 is in operation, and in green when the set temperature is reached. The backlit water droplet thus makes it possible to indicate to the user that the water inside the water heater-type household appliance 17 is being heated (red backlighting) or has reached the set temperature (green backlighting).

[0105] It should be noted that the human-machine interface 1 according to the present invention could also be installed on any other heating (such as a radiator) and / or cooling (such as an air conditioner) system as a temperature selection device, or on a controlled mechanical ventilation system as a ventilation power selection device.

[0106] It is understood that the particular embodiment which has just been described has been given for informational purposes and is not limiting, and that modifications may be made without departing from the present invention.
