Abstract
Description
[0001] MODULAR EXPANDABLE MOBILE WORKSTATION
[0002] The invention relates to a modularly expandable mobile workstation.
[0003] Mobile workstations are well known from the state of the art, particularly in the manufacturing industry. In these stations, a computer is housed in a casing that is mounted on wheels. It is common practice to mount a monitor on a column and, below it, at a predetermined height in the casing, provide an integrated keyboard, and possibly other computer peripherals. Due to their size, such workstations are often heavy, cumbersome, and not very ergonomic. Since the electronics require a power supply, the stations are often powered via a cable, which significantly limits the radius of movement. Although battery-powered solutions are also known, these batteries only last a few hours and therefore need to be recharged frequently using a charging station from a power source.Workstations can only be used to a limited extent, especially in laboratory workspaces or cleanrooms, because the individual components are not dust- or splash-proof (IP65) and are not easily cleaned. In addition, complex devices or printers are not GMP-compliant (Good Manufacturing Practices) or do not meet, among other things, EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group) hygiene standards.
[0004] A mobile workstation that can meet the requirements of the aforementioned hygiene or cleanroom regulations, while being easy to move and comfortable to use, is described in DE 20 2014 001 840 U1. There, the mobile workstation comprises a monitor with a multi-touch display and a computer system. The monitor is connected via a column to a base containing one or more batteries for mobile power supply of the monitor. The workstation could be equipped with one or more interfaces for modular expansion with electronic components.
[0005] US 2022 0 225 764 A1 also discloses a workstation that can be expanded with peripheral modules. A drawer housing is described as a peripheral module, which has a connection arrangement comprising a drawer control unit with at least one sensor. This serves to detect a sensor operator, e.g., on a latch with which drawers that can be inserted into the drawer housing can be locked. The connection arrangement has mechanical connectors for receiving in recesses of a storage compartment of the workstation and an electrical connector, which is not described in more detail.
[0006] Based on this prior art, it is the object of the present invention to provide a mobile workstation which can be modularly expanded with one or more peripheral modules for different application purposes while complying with the above-mentioned hygiene or clean room regulations, without impairing the mobility and comfortable usability of the mobile workstation.
[0007] This object is achieved by a workstation having the features of claim 1.
[0008] Further developments or preferred embodiments of the workstation are set out in the subclaims.
[0009] According to a first embodiment, the modularly expandable mobile workstation according to the invention comprises a touch display held by a display housing and a computer system, a base having at least one battery for mobile power supply of the touch display, and a column connecting the display housing and the base. According to the invention, the workstation has at least one receiving interface for reversibly detachable connection to an electronic peripheral module, which can be selected from a plurality of different electronic peripheral modules. Each electronic peripheral module has a connection interface formed with at least one molded element and having electrical and / or electronic contact elements. The at least one receiving interface of the workstation has at least one counter-mold element that is designed for releasable engagement with the at least one mold element of the connection interface in a corresponding manner. Accordingly, the at least one receiving interface of the workstation has electrical / electronic counter-contact elements that contact the electrical and / or electronic contact elements of the connection interface in a connection arrangement of the electronic peripheral module and the workstation, in which the at least one mold element engages with the at least one counter-mold element. The computer system of the workstation has a bus system that is connected to the electrical / electronic counter-contact elements or the receiving interface(s). In this way, the electronic peripheral module in the connection arrangement is operatively connected to the computer system via the bus system. It is provided that the at least one shaped element of the connection interface has a connecting cylinder, and the at least one counter-shaped element of the receiving interface has a cylinder recess in which the connecting cylinder can be received, so that the connection of a peripheral module can be carried out by a simple plug-in process. Furthermore, at least one further shaped element is advantageously formed on an outer surface of the connecting cylinder and at least one further counter-shaped element is advantageously formed on an inner surface of the cylinder recess, which serve to secure the plug-in connection and ensure correct positioning for contacting the contact elements and the counter-contact elements. For this purpose, the additional shaped element has two or three circumferentially distributed bayonet cams on the outer surface of the connecting cylinder, and the additional counter-shaped element has two or three circumferentially distributed, spiral or angled cam grooves on the inner surface of the cylinder recess, depending on the number and arrangement of the bayonet cams. The bayonet cams and cam grooves are distributed non-rotationally symmetrically around the circumference of the connecting cylinder or the cylinder recess and / or are of different sizes for precise positioning.
[0010] An operative connection, which is established in the connection arrangement by the contact of the contact elements and mating contact elements, is understood to be an electrical (for power supply) or electronic (for data communication) or preferably an electrical and electronic connection.
[0011] The number of mounting interfaces of a mobile workstation is not limited, with each mounting interface being designed according to the invention so that any peripheral module having a corresponding connection interface can be connected to the mobile workstation at any mounting interface. Advantageously, not only the mechanical attachment but also the electrical / electronic coupling is established simultaneously, so that each peripheral module is also connected to the workstation via the mechanical attachment to the workstation for communication and / or power supply.
[0012] Furthermore, in one embodiment, the connection of the display housing of the touch display to the column can also be designed as a reversibly detachable electromechanical connection for quickly changing the touch display. For this purpose, the column and the display housing have receiving and connection interfaces that correspond to the previously described interfaces with molded or counter-molded elements for mechanical fastening, as well as contact or counter-contact elements for electrical / electronic coupling.
[0013] A further development of the workstation according to the invention provides that the connecting cylinder is hollow-cylindrical and coaxially surrounds a plug-in component on which the electrical and / or electronic contact elements of the connection interface are located. The arrangement of the mating contact elements in the cylinder recess then depends on the relative position of the contact elements on the plug-in component with respect to the connecting cylinder.
[0014] Further embodiments of a workstation according to the invention relate to the fact that the receiving interface(s) of the workstation is formed on the display housing or the column, and that the connection interface of the electronic peripheral module is formed on a housing element which is connected to a housing of the electronic peripheral module directly or via a connection structure.
[0015] If the workstation has multiple receiving interfaces, it is also possible for one or more receiving interfaces to be formed on both the display housing and the column. A housing element (also called a connection housing element) directly connected to the peripheral module housing also includes integrally manufactured and permanently connected designs. A connecting structure can also be manufactured in one piece with a connection housing element, although a two-part design may be preferred to facilitate the attachment of the peripheral housing to the connecting structure and the connection of the peripheral module to the contact elements.
[0016] Therefore, in a further development of the workstation according to the invention, the connecting structure can be designed to match the shape of the housing of the electronic peripheral module and, in particular, can comprise a connecting plate which has fastening structures for the housing of the electronic peripheral module and a cable grommet for passing through a connecting cable which extends from the contact elements through the connecting plate into the housing of the electronic peripheral module.According to further embodiments of the workstation according to the invention for protection against dust and splash water, the electronic peripheral module can have a seal at the connection interface and / or the workstation can have a seal at the receiving interface, and / or the workstation can - depending on the number of receiving interfaces - have at least one cover element which is designed for the sealingly reversible closure of the at least one receiving interface in order to seal the receiving interface in a non-connection arrangement when no electronic peripheral module is to be connected.
[0017] Furthermore, according to a further embodiment, a workstation according to the invention can provide that the computer system has at least one microcontroller - preferably several microcontrollers for processing different subject areas - and a communications module, which are arranged in the display housing. The microcontroller(s) is / are connected, on the one hand, to the communications module via a USB connection and, on the other hand, to the bus system that extends to the at least one recording interface and the battery. Thus, in the connection arrangement, information from the electronic peripheral module and / or the battery can be collected by the microcontroller(s) via the bus system and communicated to the communications module and displayed on the display, which is connected to the communications module via an electronic connection.
[0018] According to further embodiments, the location tracking workstation according to the invention may further comprise a UWB tag, and / or the communication module may be connectable to the cloud via a wireless connection in order to send data to the cloud or to receive value-added services from it.
[0019] Further developments of the workstation according to the invention provide that the electronic peripheral module has a memory module in which the information of the electronic peripheral module is stored and which is connected to the electrical / electronic contact elements of the connection interface, and / or the battery has a memory module for connection to the bus system in which the information of the battery is stored, and / or the workstation has a display, in particular an elnk display, on the top side of the base, which is connected to the bus system for displaying the information of the battery and / or the electronic peripheral module. According to a further embodiment, the base of the workstation according to the invention can have at least three, preferably five arms that are mounted for movement, in particular on rollers.
[0020] Further embodiments may also provide for the booms to be mounted on casters with or without a locking brake. The casters may be cleanroom casters that meet the special regulations for cleanrooms or laboratories with high purity or hygiene requirements. They feature antistatic running surfaces and may be encased in a stainless steel housing.
[0021] Yet another embodiment of the workstation according to the invention can provide that the workstation has at least one additional interface for reversibly detachable connection to a passive supplementary module, which can be selected from a plurality of different supplementary modules, wherein each supplementary module has a connection interface formed with at least one shaped element that can correspond to the previously described shaped element of a connection interface. Accordingly, the at least one additional interface of the workstation has at least one counter-shaped element that is designed for detachable engagement with the at least one shaped element of the connection interface and can correspond to the previously described counter-shaped element of the receiving interface.
[0022] Supplementary modules are understood here, for example, to be equipment components that essentially do not contain any electronic systems, such as disinfectant dispensers or storage, supply, or mounting devices for, for example, Petri dishes or other laboratory equipment, which can thus be made available to the user within convenient reach while working in the cleanroom.
[0023] In a further development of the workstation according to the invention, the supplementary module can have a passive chip element and the workstation can have a chip recognition element which is connected to the computer system via the bus system, so that in a connection arrangement of the supplementary module and the workstation, in which the at least one mold element is in engagement with the at least one counter-molding element, the chip element of the connected supplementary module can be recognized by the chip recognition element of the computer system.According to a further embodiment of the workstation according to the invention, the chip recognition element can comprise a memory module in which information about the supplementary module is stored, so that in the connection arrangement of the supplementary module and the workstation with the recognition of the chip element of the connected supplementary module by the chip recognition element of the computer system, the information about the supplementary module can be retrieved by the microcontroller from the memory module and communicated to the communication module and displayed on the display.
[0024] In a further development, it is further conceivable for a supplementary module that stores and provides a consumable to have a device for detecting the fill level of the consumable. This detection device can then be equipped with a wireless communication module that can communicate with the computer system in the connection arrangement of the supplementary module to the workstation in order to display information about the fill level of the consumable and, if necessary, a refill message on the display.
[0025] The workstation can have a height ranging from 50 cm to 180 cm, allowing the workstation's touch display and the connected peripheral and add-on modules to be stored at a working height that allows ergonomic operation by an average user. The appropriate working height for ergonomic operation of the touch display also depends on whether the user is sitting or standing. The type of module and its intended use can also be considered when determining the ergonomic working height of the peripheral / add-on modules:
[0026] For example, to supplement the workstation with a peripheral module, which can be an additional screen, a scanner, a printer, any type of sensor arrangement, or even an input device such as a keyboard or joystick, a recording interface can be selected at a suitable working height. For example, in addition to the touch display, which can be located at waist height, another screen can be arranged at the workstation. This screen can be connected to the workstation, for example, above the touch display at about face height or next to the touch display. The column can therefore have corresponding arms or be connected to them in order to enable the conceivable arrangement variants of the peripheral modules. Accordingly, additional interfaces at a suitable working height can be selected for the arrangement of different add-on modules.
[0027] Since the orientation of the modules at the workstation is determined by the design of the mold and counter-molding elements, the inclination of a user interface of the modules in relation to the workstation or in relation to the touch display can be determined by the alignment of the connection or linking interface on the housing of the respective module. Alternatively, the connection interface of the peripheral module or the linking interface of the add-on module can have an integrated joint function and can preferably be designed with a friction element as a torque joint, so that the inclination of the respective module can be adjusted in relation to the workstation or in relation to the touch display. The display housing of the touch display can also be connected to the column in an articulated manner, in particular by a reversibly detachable torque joint.
[0028] To adjust the height of the workstation quickly and easily, the column can be height-adjustable, preferably using a gas-filled damper. This can include a gas spring that can be released and locked via a suitable mechanism. The relevant bus system cables can extend through the column with a corresponding length reserve.
[0029] The workstation can be provided with a communication device for wireless communication with other workstations or with additional data processing units, whereby Wi-Fi or the wireless communication standard Bluetooth can be used for simple and convenient data exchange. The mobile design with wireless power supply via the integrated battery provides the workstation with a long communication range.
[0030] Furthermore, it can be provided that the workstation can be operated via voice or gesture control with corresponding haptics and that multimedia technology, such as microphones and cameras, can be used for this purpose.
[0031] Further embodiments, as well as some of the advantages associated with these and other embodiments, will become clear and better understood from the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying figures. Items or parts thereof that are substantially the same or similar may be provided with the same reference numerals. The figures are merely a schematic representation of one embodiment of the invention.

[0035] Fig. 3 a detailed view of the connection interface of the peripheral module from Fig. 2,
[0036] Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the peripheral module according to Fig. 2 in a non-connection arrangement with the column of the mobile workstation,
[0037] Fig. 5 is a schematic front view of an alternative peripheral module with the connection interface on a connection plate, and
[0038] Fig. 6 is a schematic view of an internal networking of the peripheral modules with the mobile workstation.
[0039] Fig. 1 shows a mobile workstation 1 comprising a display housing 2 mounted on a column 4 with suitable fastening means. The display housing 2 houses a touch display 3 in which a data processing unit is installed.
[0040] The lower end of column 4 is connected to base 6 via a flange-shaped connecting piece 5. Base 6 has five outriggers 7 arranged in a star shape to ensure that workstation 1 is stable and minimizes the risk of tipping over. On the underside of base 6 facing the floor, each outrigger 7 is mounted on a roller 8, allowing workstation 1 to be moved as desired. The roller can also be called a "wheel" and the roller can be made up of several parts. Of course, other base designs are also possible; for example, the base can have four or six or more outriggers; or it can have a round, oval, or polygonal base mounted on a suitable number of rollers.
[0041] A battery 6' is arranged within the base 6 (dashed in Fig. 1), as also schematically shown in Fig. 5. The battery 6' can be inductively coupled to an induction charging station via a coupling device and charged as needed. A display 9, preferably an inductive display, is arranged on the upper side of one of the arms 7. This display can be used to indicate the charge level of the battery 6'. This display can optionally be arranged at another suitable location on the base or on the column.
[0042] Figs. 2, 3, and 4 show a peripheral module 11, here comprising an RFID reader 11', which provides a user interface for wireless identification. The RFID reader 11' is attached in the connection arrangement (Fig. 2) via the connection interface 10 to the column 4 of the mobile workstation 1, which has a corresponding receiving interface 10' for this purpose. All peripheral modules are embedded in stainless steel housings and are suitable for the cleanroom specification IP65.
[0043] The connection interface 10 is formed on a cylindrical connection housing element 17, which is formed integrally with the housing 17' of the RFID reader 1T. The connection housing element 17 has a sealing ring 12 around its circumference, which ensures the required sealing of the connection between the workstation 1 and the peripheral module 11 at the interfaces 10, 10' in the connection arrangement. The sealing ring 12 surrounds a bayonet connection cylinder 13, which extends coaxially from the connection housing element 17 and protrudes beyond the sealing ring 12. The connection cylinder 13 has three bayonet cams 16 on its outer surface, which are distributed over the circumference and are arranged here at a 120° angle to one another. Within the hollow connection cylinder 13, a plug-in component 14 with integrated contact elements 15 is provided, which serve for the electrical and electronic connection of the peripheral module 11.
[0044] On the column 4, as can be seen in the non-connection arrangement in Fig. 4, a receiving interface 10' corresponding to the connection interface 10 is provided, with a cylinder recess 13' and cam grooves 16' for the connecting cylinder 13 with the bayonet cams 16, so that the respective peripheral module 11 to be used can be easily attached by a clockwise rotation. Differently sized bayonet cams 16 and correspondingly different sized cam grooves 16' ensure correct positioning for the connection arrangement for aligning the peripheral module 11 and, in particular, for contacting the contact elements 15 and the mating contact elements 15', which are located at the base of the cylinder recess 13' and are connected to the bus system 24 of the workstation 1.
[0045] Furthermore, Fig. 4 shows a cover element 14' that was removed from the receiving interface 10' for mounting the peripheral module 11, but otherwise seals the receiving interface 10' in any non-connected arrangement. The cover element 14' is connected to the column via a hinge element, so that the cover element 14' is directly at hand when the peripheral module 11 is removed in order to seal the receiving interface 10'. Of course, it is also possible for a cover element that seals the receiving interface in a non-connected arrangement to not be connected to the workstation. In a connected arrangement in which the loose cover element is removed from the receiving interface, the loose cover element can be stored in a storage device that is designed for this purpose on the workstation as an additional equipment element or is attached as an additional module.
[0046] Fig. 5 shows a plate-shaped connection structure 11", to which different peripheral modules 11 can be connected and fastened, for which purpose the connecting plate 11" has a plurality of holes 19 which allow the fastening of the respective peripheral module, e.g. by means of screws. Some holes are used for the detachable connection of the connecting plate 11' to the connection housing element 17, which has the connection interface 10. To fasten the peripheral module 11 with its housing 17' to the connecting plate 11", the connecting plate 11" can be detached from the connection housing element 17' so that lines or cables 18' can be led through the connecting plate 11" by means of a cable grommet 18. The contact elements 15 on the front side of the plug-in component 14 are connected to the peripheral module 11 by means of the cable 18'.The plug-in component 14 with the contact elements 15 is in turn arranged in the connecting cylinder 13, the outer surface of which has the bayonet cams 16. After the peripheral module 11, which is attached to the connecting plate 11', has been mounted on the workstation 1, an opening 17" in the connection housing element 17 accommodates a screw at a receiving interface 10' to prevent the peripheral module 11 from loosening under load. All holes in the connection housing element 17 and the connecting plate 11" can be sealed with protective stickers to ensure optimal sealing. In Fig. 6, a connection concept for all components of the computer system 100 of the modular workstation 1 includes a microcontroller 23, a bus system 24 for communication, a communication module 25, and connections to an external cloud storage system 20.Microcontroller 23, bus system 24, and communications module 25 are arranged in housing 2 and, together with other necessary electronic components, such as one or more memory modules, form a data processing unit or can be operatively coupled to such a unit. The components battery 6', display 3, and peripheral modules 11 are operatively connected to each other with the microcontroller 23, the bus system 24, and the software application 25. Furthermore, a UWB tag 27 is provided, with which the workstation 1 can be located at its current location at any time.
[0047] The bus system 24 can be expanded so that several peripheral modules can be attached, which are operatively coupled to the bus system 24 via the memory modules 26, i.e. are designed to be able to communicate electronically with the microcontroller 23 and to provide their data or information.
[0048] Each peripheral module 11 that can be connected has a memory module 26, via which electronic data from the peripheral modules 11 and the battery 6' can be sent to the bus system 24. The microcontroller 23 collects all data from the components via the bus system 24 and forwards it to the communication module 25 via a USB port 28. The communication module 25 releases so-called user information for display via an electronic connection 29, wherein the user information is based on the data collected by the peripheral modules 11 and the battery 9. For example, alarms when limit values are exceeded or not reached or the charge level of the battery 6'. The communication module 25 can send device data to the cloud 20 via wireless connections 21, 22 or receive value-added services from the cloud.
[0049] The mobile workstation according to the invention is intended to provide a modular work device that can be used for a wide variety of applications and adapted to specific needs with numerous add-on components. The connection and receiving interfaces according to the invention can be located on the column, the display housing, or the base. This provides a modular connection concept that offers the greatest possible flexibility. Peripheral modules can be any type of electronic device that complements work with the workstation, including scanners, printers, any type of sensor array, or even input devices such as keyboards or joysticks.
[0050] The workstation's computer system is designed so that when a peripheral module is connected, it is not only electrically connected and supplied with power, but also electronically coupled. As soon as the connection interface is firmly connected to the receiving interface, the peripheral module communicates directly with the bus system and the microcontroller, and the microcontroller starts a program sequence to recognize the peripheral module. The peripheral module is recognized, and the data it generates can be retrieved by the computer system. Data from the peripheral modules can be shown on the touch display and simultaneously on the elnk display on the base. This allows the battery charge level or error messages from the peripheral modules, for example, to be displayed and thus more quickly visible to the user.
[0051] The UWB tag built into the workstation enables localization of the workstation, allowing it to be monitored for its location and appropriate use from a regulatory perspective. Furthermore, the computer system can monitor and communicate the current technical status of the peripheral modules and possible measurement parameters for maintenance or repair. At the same time, everything can be processed locally via the communication module, and the data can be forwarded to the cloud.
