AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing image display systems struggle to maintain desired contrast levels and color accuracy under varying luminance conditions, particularly in devices equipped with sensors, without manual calibration.

Method used

Adapting pixel components (red, green, blue) and background luminance to maintain contrast and adjust display luminance, combined with colorimetry calibration and automatic luminance/color adjustment using a sensor.

Benefits of technology

Enables consistent contrast and color accuracy across varying luminance conditions, enhancing display performance in devices with sensors through adaptive luminance and color adjustments.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for evaluating an individual's vision under certain luminance conditions, using a screen displaying an image (1) comprising a background (2) and characters (3) to be deciphered appearing on said background (2). The main characteristic of a method according to the invention is that it comprises the following steps: - a step of adjusting the luminance of the background (2) of the image (1), - a step of adjusting the luminance of the characters (3) to be deciphered appearing on the image (1), said two steps being independent of each other so as to obtain the desired contrast between the background (2) and the characters (3).

Description

By separately varying the basic color components (red, green, blue) of the pixels making up image 1, it is possible to adapt this operation to contrast measurement tests following different color cones. Furthermore, by combining the variation of the luminance of the background 2 of the image with the variation of the luminance of the characters 3, it is thus possible to maintain a desired contrast level and vary only the display luminance to a desired level. Finally, this technique also allows for colorimetry calibration to adjust color temperatures, but also automatic adjustment of the luminance or colors of images if the device is equipped with a suitable sensor.
