Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Connection device comprising a connector intended to carry a wiper blade and an adapter provided for holding the connector on a drive arm of the wiper blade
[0001] The field of the present invention is that of wiping systems intended to equip a vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle. The present invention relates to a connection device comprising a connector intended to carry a wiper blade and an adapter provided for securing the connector to a drive arm of the wiper blade. The present invention also relates to a wiping system comprising such a connection device, the wiper blade and the drive arm of the wiper blade.
[0002] A motor vehicle is commonly equipped with a wiping system to ensure sweeping and washing of a glazed surface constituting the motor vehicle, such as a front windshield or a rear window. The wiping system is intended to prevent the vision that a driver of the motor vehicle has of his surroundings from being disturbed. To this end, the wiping system comprises a drive arm which is equipped with a wiper blade and which performs an angular back-and-forth movement opposite the glazed surface and within a field of vision of the driver.
[0003] The wiper blade is longitudinally extended along an elongation axis and comprises an elongated structural element combining a support, a rigid metal vertebra and a flexible scraper blade. The scraper blade is designed to rub against the glass surface and evacuate the water by bringing it outside the driver's field of vision.
[0004] The drive arm is in particular arranged in a rod which extends along a longitudinal axis and one end of which is connected to the wiper blade by means of a connection device and another end of which is connected to a means for driving the wiper blade. The connection device is arranged to allow the wiper blade to be held while allowing the latter to pivot relative to the drive arm. The end of the drive arm on the connection device side takes the form of a rod which is housed in this connection device.
[0005] The connection device comprises a connector and an adapter. The connector comprises a fixing block configured to mechanically connect the connector to the structural element of the wiper blade and also comprises a connecting block configured to mechanically connect the connector to the adapter.
[0006] A first problem lies in the vertical dimension of the connection device described above. The pivot shaft surmounted by the rod of the drive arm, when the latter is housed in an adapter, leads to an adapter design which extends in the vertical direction. Such an extension generates difficulties, for example with regard to the positioning of the connection device when the wiping system is in the stopped position, or even by the aerodynamic drag that such a connection device generates.
[0007] A second problem posed lies in the fact that the wiping system is likely to send water projections into the field of vision. Indeed, the volume of the connection device, and in particular its vertical dimension, retains the water which, once the vehicle is set in motion, is projected onto the windshield, causing discomfort for the driver of the motor vehicle.
[0008] A third problem arises from the fact that in the event of a frontal impact of the motor vehicle with a pedestrian, a cyclist or a moped rider, the connection device constitutes a projection likely to be struck by the pedestrian's head and injure the latter.
[0009] A fourth problem lies in the fact that the wiping system constitutes a visual nuisance for the driver and / or his passenger during the back and forth movement of the wiper blade along the glass surface.
[0010] The present invention aims to provide a connection device comprising a connector intended to carry a wiper blade and an adapter provided for holding the connector on a drive arm of the wiper blade, which is arranged in such a way that a height of the connection device, i.e. its vertical dimension, is as small as possible.
[0011] The present invention also aims to provide a wiping system, which is arranged in such a way that a height of the wiping system, i.e. its vertical dimension, is as small as possible.
[0012] A device of the present invention is a connection device comprising a connector for carrying a wiper blade and an adapter for connecting the connector to an end portion of a drive arm. The pivot axis extends through a pair of fingers and a pair of finger-receiving holes. At least one of the fingers and / or at least one of the holes is formed on the adapter while the other of the fingers and / or holes is formed on the connector.
[0013] The connection device advantageously comprises at least one of of the following technical characteristics, taken or in combination:

[0017] - the first enclosure houses a connector connection block,
[0018] - the adapter delimits a second enclosure for receiving the terminal part of the drive arm,
[0019] - at least one of the fingers and / or orifices is provided in one of the side walls of the adapter,
[0020] - the fingers protrude from the side walls of the adapter and the holes are provided in the connector,
[0021] - the adapter is provided with at least one lateral tab which borders the cavity and which is interposed between the side walls of the adapter,
[0022] - the side tab is provided with one of the fingers, the other of the fingers equipping one of the side walls,
[0023] - the adapter is provided with two side tabs which border on either side the cavity and which are interposed between the side walls of the adapter,
[0024] - the fingers and / or the holes are provided in the side tabs of the adapter and / or side amounts that the connector includes,
[0025] - the side uprights at least partially delimit a volume housing at at least one lateral leg and at least partially the cavity,
[0026] - each side upright is interposed between a side wall and a side leg of the adapter,
[0027] - the fingers protrude from the side tabs of the adapter and the holes are provided in the side uprights of the connector,
[0028] - the fingers protrude from the side posts of the connector and the holes are provided in the side tabs of the adapter.
[0029] - a first finger projects from a first lateral upright of the connector and a first hole is provided in a first side tab of the adapter, and a second finger projects from a second side tab of the adapter and a second hole is provided in a second side post of the connector.
[0030] The present invention also relates to a wiping system comprising such a connection device, a drive arm comprising an end part housed inside the connecting device and a wiper blade carried by the connecting device.
[0031] In the wiping system, the end portion forms a means for securing a pivot connection formed by the pair of fingers and the pair of finger-receiving orifices.

[0040] It should first be noted that the figures set out the invention in detail for implementing the invention, said figures of course being able to serve to better define the invention where appropriate.
[0041] In the figures, the names longitudinal, transverse, vertical, lateral, left, right, upper, lower, refer to the orientation, in an orthonormal reference frame Oxyz, linked to a connection device 1 of the present invention comprising a connector 2 intended to carry a wiper blade 3 and an adapter 4 provided to hold the connector 2 on a drive arm 5 of the wiper blade 3. The connection device 1, the wiper blade 3 and the drive arm 5 together form a wiping system 6 intended to sweep a glazed surface. In this frame, the Ox axis represents the longitudinal direction, the Oy axis represents the lateral direction, and the Oz axis represents the transverse direction of the object considered, regardless of the connection device 1, the connector 2 or the adapter 4. In this frame, a longitudinal plane is parallel to the Oxy plane, a transverse plane is parallel to the Oyz plane and a lateral plane is parallel to an Oxz plane..
[0042] In [Fig.l], the connection device 1 and the wiping system 6 of the present invention extend along a longitudinal axis Al, parallel to the axis Ox. The lateral, left and right denominations are assessed in relation to a position along a lateral axis A2, parallel to the axis Oy, on either side of the longitudinal axis Al. A transverse axis A3 symbolizes a transverse direction, parallel to that of the axis Oz. The upper or lower denominations relate to orientations along the transverse axis A3, the lower denomination containing the plane of a glazed surface against which the wiper blade 3 is intended to scrape. For the longitudinal directions, the outer or inner designations are assessed in relation to a pivot point of the wiper blade 3 on the drive arm 5 of the wiper blade 3, the inner designation corresponding to the part where the drive arm 5 and one half-blade extend, the outer designation corresponding to the part where the other half-blade extends.
[0043] A motor vehicle is commonly equipped with the wiping system 6 for removing water and / or dirt present on a glass surface, in particular a rear window or a front windshield of the motor vehicle. The wiping system 6 comprises the drive arm 5 which is capable of performing an angular back-and-forth movement along and above the glass surface. The wiping system 6 also comprises the wiper blade 3 which is carried by the drive arm 5 and which is arranged to remove water and dirt from the glass surface.
[0044] The wiper blade 3 comprises a structural element 7 which gives the wiper blade 3 a certain deformation in the Oxz plane and a curved conformation for an optimized application of the wiper blade 3 against the glazed surface. The structural element 7 comprises in particular a scraper blade 8 which is the part of the wiper blade 3 intended to come into direct contact with the glazed surface to evacuate the water and / or dirt present on the latter. The scraper blade 8 is for example a flexible blade made of an elastic material, such as a polymer, rubber in particular. According to the exemplary embodiment, the structural element 7 comprises for example at least one metal strip 9, otherwise called vertebra 9. Such a metal strip 9 is advantageously single, at least when seen in the Oxz plane. The metal strip 9 is provided to give the wiper blade 3 its shape and rigidity.
[0045] The wiper blade 2 comprises at least one air deflector 10, preferably two air deflectors 10 distributed longitudinally on either side of the connector 2. The air deflector 10 is provided to transform a pressure applied by a flow of air circulating along the glazed surface into a pressing force of the wiper blade 3 against the glazed surface of the motor vehicle. The air deflector 10 is intended to prevent the scraper blade 8 from detaching from the glazed surface, in particular when the motor vehicle is traveling at high speed, the air deflector 10 even allowing an even stronger pressure of the scraper blade 8 against the glass surface as the motor vehicle travels at high speed.
[0046] The wiper blade 3 also comprises at each of its longitudinal ends 11 an end piece 12. Each end piece 12 is provided to hold together the air deflector 10 and the structural element 7, such an end piece 12 covering an end portion of the air deflector 10.
[0047] The air deflectors 10 and the structural element 7 jointly form a semi-rigid structure 11 carried by the connection device 1, interposed between an end part 13 of the drive arm 5 and the semi-rigid structure 11. Such a connection device 1 comprises at least the connector 2 secured at least isostatically to the semi-rigid structure 11, and the adapter 4 connected to the end part 13 of the drive arm, this adapter 4 and this connector 2 being connected by a pivot connection.
[0048] In [Fig.2], the connector 2 comprises a fixing block 14 which is configured to mechanically connect the connector 2 to the structural element 7 of the wiper blade 3. The fixing block 14 comprises two lateral claws 15 which are arranged symmetrically on either side of the longitudinal axis A1 to hold the structural element 7. The connector 2 also comprises a connecting block 16 which is configured to mechanically connect the connector 2 to the adapter 4.
[0049] In Figures 2 and 3, the adapter 4 is generally arranged in a U-shaped profile in a section plane parallel to the plane Oyz. The adapter 4 comprises an upper wall 17 forming the base of the U and two side walls 18 forming the branches of the U. The upper wall 17 has a window 19 which gives access to the end part 13 of the drive arm 5, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. The adapter 4 is provided with a button 20 which is capable of maneuvering a tab to allow engagement and / or disengagement of the adapter 4 on the end part 13 of the drive arm 5. The button 20 is located longitudinally opposite a nose 38 which the adapter 4 comprises.
[0050] In Figures 4 to 7, the upper wall 17 and the side walls 18 of the adapter 4 jointly delimit a first enclosure 21 for receiving the connecting block 16 of the connector 2. The window 19 provided through the upper wall 17 of the adapter overhangs the first enclosure 21. The connecting block 16 of the connector 2 comprises a cavity 22 which is arranged to receive the end portion 13 of the drive arm 5. The cavity 22 is provided directly above the window 19 along the transverse axis A3, such that the end portion 13 of the drive arm 5 is visible through the window 19 by an observer looking at the wiping system 6 parallel to the transverse axis A3. The cavity 22 forms a volume which extends inside a first plane PI which is orthogonal to the transverse axis A3.
[0051] The connector 2 is pivotally mounted on the adapter 4 about a pivot axis A4 which is parallel to the first plane PL. The first plane PI and the pivot axis A4 are separated from each other by a distance D, taken along the transverse axis A3 between the first plane PI and the pivot axis A4, which is non-zero. These arrangements facilitate pivoting of the connector 2, and consequently of the wiper blade 3 that the connector 2 carries, in a second plane P2 which is orthogonal to the first plane PL.
[0052] The connector 2 is pivotally mounted on the adapter 4 by means of a pair of fingers 23, 23a, 23b and a pair of orifices 24, 24a, 24b for receiving the fingers 23, 23a, 23b. Each orifice 24, 24a, 24b is shaped to receive in close contact a finger 23, 23a, 23b and jointly allow pivoting on itself of the finger 23, 23a, 23b inside the corresponding orifice 24, 24a, 24b.It is understood that the fingers 23, 23a, 23b are nested inside the orifices 24, 24a, 24b. The fingers 23, 23a, 23b and the orifices 24, 24a, 24b extend along the pivot axis A4 of the connector 2 on the adapter 4, the pivot axis A4 passing through the fingers 23, 23a, 23b and the orifices 24, 24a, 24b. Along the lateral axis A2, one of the fingers 23, 23a, 23b and one of the orifices 24, 24a, 24b are separated by the first enclosure 21 from the other of the fingers 23, 23a, 23b and the other of the orifices 24, 24a, 24b. In other words, the first enclosure 21 separates a pair of fingers 23, 23a, 23b and orifices 24, 24a, 24b from the other pair of fingers 23, 23a, 23b and orifices 24, 24a, 24b.
[0053] Advantageously, the fingers 23, 23a, 23b and / or the orifices 24, 24a, 24b are formed on the adapter 4 and / or on the connector 2. More particularly, the fingers 23, 23a, 23b and / or the orifices 24, 24a, 24b are made from the material of the adapter 4 or the connector 2. In other words, the fingers 23, 23a, 23b project from the connector 2 and / or the adapter 4, and the orifices 24, 24a, 24b are provided in the connector 2 and / or the adapter 4, without the need to use any element other than the connector 2 and the adapter 4 to ensure pivoting of the connector 2 relative to the adapter 4, such as a pivot shaft integral with the arm training.
[0054] More specifically, the adapter may comprise two fingers while the connector comprises two orifices that receive these fingers. Alternatively, the adapter may comprise a finger and an orifice while the connector comprises an orifice that receives the finger of the adapter and a finger that fits into the orifice of the adapter. Alternatively, the adapter may comprise two orifices while the connector comprises two fingers that fit into the orifices of the adapter.
[0055] These arrangements are such that a first height H1 of the connection device 1, i.e. its vertical dimension, taken along the transverse axis A3 between the upper wall 17 of the adapter 4 and a lower wall 25 of the connector 2 is as small as possible. The lower wall 25 of the connector 2 is the wall of the connector 2 further from the pivot axis A4, and is in particular constitutive of the lateral claws 15 of the connector 2. It is understood in fact that the absence of a pivot shaft integral with the drive arm makes it possible to reduce the first height H1 of the connection device 2, from an exploitation of the connector 2 and the adapter 4 to form the pivot axis A4.
[0056] All things being equal, it is noted that a second height H2 of the wiping system 6 taken along the transverse axis A3 between the upper wall 17 of the adapter 4 and a lower end 26 of the scraper blade 8 is as small as possible. The lower end 26 of the scraper blade 8 is the end of the scraper blade 8 which is intended to circulate against the glazed surface for the purpose of cleaning it.
[0057] It is noted at this stage of the description that the upper wall 17 and the side walls 18 of the adapter 4 jointly delimit a second enclosure 27 for receiving the terminal part 13 of the drive arm 5. The second enclosure 27 is contained inside the first enclosure 21.
[0058] It is also noted that the connection device 1 delimits a space 28 for receiving the terminal part 13 of the drive arm 5.
[0059] One of the side walls 18 of the adapter 4 comprises an external surface 30 which is curved towards the outside of the adapter 4 to facilitate a flow of air circulating along the glazed surface to be cleaned and to create a bearing force on the connection device to improve the pressing of the wiper blade 3 on the windshield.
[0060] The adapter 4 is provided with at least one lateral tab 29, 29a, 29b which borders the cavity 22 and which is interposed between the lateral walls 18 of the adapter 4. The lateral tab 29, 29a, 29b is housed inside the first enclosure 21. The lateral tab 29, 29a, 29b extends in a third plane P3 which is orthogonal to the first plane PL
[0061] According to a first variant embodiment illustrated in [Fig. 4], the adapter 4 comprises a single lateral tab 29 which is provided with one of the fingers 23. The other of the fingers is provided on the lateral wall 18 which is separated from the single lateral tab 29 by the first enclosure 21. The orifices 24 for receiving the fingers 23 are themselves provided in the connector 2. A groove lateral 31 separates the single lateral tab 29 from the finger-free lateral wall 18.The lateral groove 31 thus created allows the single lateral tab 29 to bend when the adapter 4 is mounted on the connector 2, by snapping the fingers 23 into the orifices 24.
[0062] The connecting block 16 is generally arranged in a parallelepiped body provided laterally with the orifices 24. The cavity 22 is transversely arranged above the orifices 24.
[0063] According to the embodiments illustrated in Figures 5 to 7, the adapter 4 comprises two lateral tabs 29 and the connecting block 16 is generally shaped as U. The connecting block 16 comprises a plate 32 which forms the base of the U and two lateral uprights 33, 33a, 33b which form the arms of the U. The cavity 22 is at least partially formed between the lateral uprights 33, 33a, 33b of the connector 2, such that the terminal part 13 of the drive arm 5 is at least partially interposed between the lateral uprights 33, 33a, 33b. The lateral uprights 33, 33a, 33b and the plate 32 together delimit a volume 34 which houses the lateral legs 29, 29a, 29b of the adapter 4. Each lateral upright 33, 33a, 33b is interposed between a lateral wall 18 and a lateral leg 29, 29a, 29b of the adapter 4.
[0064] According to a second variant embodiment illustrated in [Fig. 5], the fingers 23 project from the lateral legs 29 and are oriented towards the lateral walls 18. The orifices 24 are provided in the lateral uprights 33 and are oriented towards the volume 34.In other words, in the absence of the adapter 4, the orifices 24 adjoin the volume 34.
[0065] According to a third variant embodiment illustrated in [Fig.6], the fingers 23 project from the lateral uprights 33 and are oriented towards the volume 34. The orifices 24 are formed through the lateral tabs 29. In other words, in the absence of the connector 2, the orifices 24 adjoin the volume 34.
[0066] According to a fourth variant embodiment illustrated in [Fig.7], a first finger 23a projects from a first lateral tab 29a and is oriented towards the lateral wall 18 adjoining the first lateral tab 29a while a second finger 23b projects from a first lateral upright 33a and is oriented towards the volume 34. A first orifice 24a for receiving the first finger 23a is provided in a second lateral upright 33b and adjoins the volume 34 in the absence of the adapter 4 while a second orifice 24b is provided through a second lateral tab 29b and communicates with the volume 34.
[0067] In Figures 5 to 7, at least one lateral tab 29a, 29b, and advantageously both, are flexible, in the sense that they are designed to flex so as to retract the part of the pivot connection that they carry, for example the finger 23, when mounting the adapter 4 on the connector 2.
[0068] In the three embodiments described in Figures 5 to 7, the end portion 13 of the drive arm 5 makes it possible to secure the pivot connection between the adapter 4 and the connector 2 by preventing the lateral tabs 29, 29a from bending towards the first enclosure 21 and thus accidentally separating the fingers 23a, 23b of the adapter 4 from the orifices 24a, 24b of the connector 2. The end portion 13 thus plays a role in securing the pivot connection between the adapter and the connector.
[0069] In Figures 4 to 7, it can be seen that the fixing block 14 of the connector 2 houses a heel 35 of the scraper blade 8 which is arranged transversely opposite the lower end 26 of the scraper blade 8. The heel 35 carries a body 36 of the scraper blade 8, the body 36 itself carrying a sharp point 37 of the blade scraper 8 which is provided with the lower end 26.
[0070] Incidentally, the fingers 23, 23a, 23b are beveled to facilitate their insertion inside the corresponding orifices 24, 24a, 24b.
[0071] In the embodiments illustrated in Figures 4 to 7, the drive arm 5, and in particular its end part 13, have a substantially rectangular section, with its largest faces oriented parallel to the first plane PI.
[0072] According to an alternative, the drive arm 5, and for example its end portion 13, can be inclined so that the largest faces of the rectangular section of the drive arm 5 are oriented at an angle of between 15° and 45°, advantageously 30°, relative to the second plane P2. Such an arrangement makes it possible to improve the aerodynamic performance of the drive arm 5 by improving the air deflection effect.
[0073] Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples which have just been described and numerous adjustments can be made to these examples without departing from the scope of the invention. One possibility would be for the wiper blade to comprise a second metal strip, i.e. a second vertebra. In such a case, the wiper blade according to the invention may be without a support and the connector is directly secured to the two vertebrae.
[0074] The invention, as just described, achieves at least one of the aims it set itself, namely reducing the vertical dimension of the connection device by making it possible to arrange the end of the drive arm in an area closer to the wiper, compared to its position in the prior art. Variants not described here could be implemented without departing from the context of the invention, since, in accordance with the invention, the connection device comprises a pivoting means consisting of a finger made from the material of the adapter or the connector and housed in an orifice provided respectively in the connector or in the adapter, the connector comprising a cavity into which the end of the drive arm can extend, and advantageously at least a portion of the adapter which also receives this end of the arm.
