Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Compositions for CONFERRING COLOR and TONE to hair Technical field
[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to compositions and methods for imparting color and / or tone to hair. CONTEXT
[0002] It is known that consumers desire to use cosmetic and care compositions that improve the appearance of keratinous substrates such as hair, for example by modifying the color, style and / or shape of the hair, and / or by imparting various properties to the hair, such as shine and conditioning. Many of the compositions and processes known for improving the appearance of hair involve chemical treatment of the hair.
[0003] The process of changing hair color, for example, may involve depositing an artificial color onto the hair that imparts a different shade or color to the hair, and / or bleaching the hair, such as lightening the color of dark hair to lighter shades. The process of bleaching hair, also known as lightening, generally requires the use of compositions that include at least one oxidizing agent.
[0004] Hair lightening or bleaching is typically assessed by the variation in tone height before and after applying a hair color toning composition to the hair. This variation corresponds to the degree or level of lightening or bleaching. The notion of "tone" is based on the classification of natural shades, a tone separating each shade from the shade immediately following or preceding it, well known to hairdressing professionals. Tone heights or levels range from 1 (black) to 10 (light blonde), one unit corresponding to one tone; thus, the higher the number, the lighter the shade or the greater the degree of bleaching.
[0005] In general, hair lightening or bleaching compositions and hair dyeing compositions possess an alkalinity such that these compositions have a pH value greater than 7, typically at a pH of 9 and above, and generally require the presence of an alkalizing agent such as ammonia or an ammonia gas generating compound and / or an amine or ammonium based compound in sufficient amounts to render these compositions alkaline. The alkalizing agent causes the hair shaft to swell, which allows small molecules to Oxidative dyes from penetrating the cuticle and cortex before the oxidation-condensation process is complete. The larger colored complexes resulting from the oxidation reaction are then trapped inside the hair fiber, permanently changing the hair color. Although this process is effective in changing hair color, these chemical treatments can damage the hair fibers, resulting in a decrease in hair strength, as well as a negative effect on the sensory properties of the hair, such as smoothness, shine, and feel. Therefore, in order to reduce or avoid these disadvantages, it is necessary to use new and additional treatment components and compositions to be used before, during, after, or in addition to hair color modification processes.
[0006] However, the selection of such components or treatments could pose difficulties insofar as they may not detract from other cosmetic attributes such as ease and uniformity of application, rheology or viscosity properties and stability of the compositions, color deposition and formation of the target shade, and / or result in other disadvantages such as increased damage or a less healthy appearance of the hair. It would therefore be desirable to provide the consumer with compositions and methods for treating the hair, for example bleaching the hair and / or depositing color on the hair effectively, while providing other cosmetic benefits such as shine, conditioning, fiber strength and / or a healthy appearance to the hair, but avoiding or minimizing damage to the hair.
[0007] Another challenge for manufacturers of hair products that can change hair color is to find new dyes or colorants or new combinations of dyes or colorants that can either create new shades or tones of color on the hair or achieve the same desired shades or tones of color as existing products. [0261] The pH of the composition resulting from mixing the hair color toning composition and the developer composition (i.e., the mixture) may range from about 6.0 to about 6.8, for example, from about 6.0 to about 6.7, from about 6.0 to about 6.6, from about 6.0 to about 6.5, from about 6.1 to about 6.7, about 6.1 to about 6.6, about 6.1 to about 6.5, about 6.2 to about 6.7, about 6.2 to about 6.6, about 6.2 to about 6.5, about 6.3 to about 6.7, about 6.3 to about 6.6, about 6.3 to about 6.5, about 6.4 to about 6.7, about 6.4 to about 6.6, or about 6.4 to about 6.5. For example, the pH of the mixture may be about 6.0, about 6.1, about 6.2, about 6.3, about 6.4, about 6.5, about 6.6, about 6.7, or about 6.8.
[0262] The hair color tinting composition or mixture may be left on the hair for a sufficient period of time to achieve the desired effect. For example, the hair color tinting composition or mixture may be left on the hair for up to one hour, such as from about 3 minutes to about 45 minutes, from about 5 minutes to about 30 minutes, or from about 10 minutes to about 20 minutes. In other embodiments, the hair coloring composition or mixture may be left on the hair for a period of up to about 30 minutes, such as, for example, from about 1 to about 30 minutes, from about 1 to about 10 minutes, or from about 1 to about 5 minutes. Those skilled in the art will be able to determine the appropriate time to leave the coloring composition or mixture on the hair to achieve the desired effect. If desired, the composition can optionally be shampooed and / or rinsed from the hair. Necessary.
[0263] Another aspect of the invention relates to kits that comprise any of the hair color toning compositions described herein for use in exemplary methods according to the disclosure. In some embodiments, the kit comprises a hair color toning composition according to the disclosure in a first compartment or container, and a developer composition as described above in a second compartment or container. The developer composition and the hair color toning composition may then be mixed prior to application to the hair.
[0264] According to at least one embodiment, the kits comprising the compositions according to the disclosure and the developer composition are free or substantially free of ammonia.
[0265] In this document, the terms “comprising”, “having” and “including” (or “comprise”, “have” and “include”) are used in their open and non-limiting sense.
[0266] Thus, the term "a mixture thereof" or "a combination thereof" also refers to "mixtures thereof" and "combinations thereof." Throughout the disclosure, the terms "a mixture thereof" and "a combination thereof" are used, after a list of elements as shown in the following example where the letters AF represent the elements: "one or more elements selected from the group consisting of A, B, C, D, E, F, and a mixture thereof." The terms "a mixture thereof" or "a combination thereof" do not require that the mixture include all of elements A, B, C, D, E, and F (although all of elements A, B, C, D, E, and F may be included). Rather, it indicates that a mixture of two or more of elements A, B, C, D, E, and F may be included. In other words, it is equivalent to the expression "one or more elements selected from the group consisting of A, B, C, D, E, F, and a mixture of two or more of A, B, C, D, E and F".
[0267] Similarly, the term "a salt thereof" also refers to "salts thereof." Thus, when the disclosure refers to "a member selected from the group consisting of A, B, C, D, E, F, a salt thereof, and a mixture thereof," it indicates that one or more of A, B, C, D, and F may be included, one or more of a salt of A, a salt of B, a salt of C, a salt of D, a salt of E, and a salt of F may be included, or a mixture of any two of A, B, C, D, E, F, a salt of A, a salt of B, a salt of C, a salt of D, a salt of E, and a salt of F may be included.
[0268] Salts, for example, salts of non-polymeric amino acids, aminosulfonic acids, and mono-, di-, and / or tricarboxylic acids, referred to throughout the disclosure may include salts having a counterion such as an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or ammonium counterion. This list of counterions is not, however, limiting.
[0269] The expression “one or more” means “at least one” and therefore includes individual components as well as mixtures / combinations.
[0270] Apart from the working examples, or unless otherwise indicated, all numbers expressing quantities of ingredients and / or reaction conditions must be understood as being modified in all cases by the term "approximately", meaning + / - 5% of the number indicated.
[0271] All percentages, parts and ratios set forth herein are based on the total weight of the compositions of the present invention, unless otherwise indicated.
[0272] “Keratinous substrates,” as used herein, include, but are not limited to, fibers keratinous such as hair and / or scalp of the human head.
[0273] “Conditioning” as used herein means imparting to one or more fibers hair at least one property selected from ease of combing, moisture retention, luster, shine and / or softness. Conditioning condition may be assessed by any means known in the art, such as, for example, measuring and Comparison of combability of treated and untreated hair in terms of combing work-in (gm-in) and consumer perception.
[0274] The term "treat" (and its grammatical variations) as used herein refers to applying the compositions of the present disclosure to the surface of keratinous substrates such as hair. The term "treatment" (and its grammatical variations) as used herein also refers to contacting keratinous substrates such as hair with the compositions of the present disclosure.
[0275] A "rinse-out" product refers to a composition such as a hair coloring composition that is rinsed and / or washed with water after or during application of the composition to the keratinous substrate, and before drying and / or styling said keratinous substrate. At least a portion, and typically the greater part, of the composition is removed from the keratinous substrate during rinsing and / or washing.
[0276] The term "stable" as used herein means that the composition does not exhibit phase separation and / or crystallization for a period of time, e.g., for at least 1 day (24 hours), one week, one month, or one year.
[0277] “Volatile,” as used herein, means having a flash point below about 100°C.
[0278] “Non-volatile,” as used herein, means having a flash point greater than about 100°C.
[0279] As used herein, all ranges provided are intended to include each specific range within the given ranges, as well as any combination of sub-ranges therein. Thus, a range of 1-5 specifically includes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, as well as sub-ranges such as 2-5, 3-5, 2-3, 2-4, 1-4, etc.
[0280] The term "substantially free" or "essentially free" as used herein means that there is at least about 5% by weight of a specific material added to a composition, based on the total weight of the compositions. However, the compositions may include less than about 3%, less than about 2%, less than about 1%, less than about 0.5%, less than about 0.1%, or none of the specified material.
[0281] All ranges and values disclosed herein are inclusive and combinable. For example, any value or point described herein that falls within a range described herein may serve as a minimum or maximum value to obtain a subrange, etc.
[0282] The following examples serve to illustrate embodiments of the present disclosure without being limiting in nature. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations may be made to the delivery system, composition, and methods of the invention without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention. Thus, it is intended that the present disclosure covers modifications and variations that fall within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents. EXAMPLES

[0292] Example 4 - Stability Testing of Hair Tinting Formulations
[0293] The formulations (1H and II) were stored at different temperatures for a certain time and the stability was assessed visually, by the viscosity of the formulation or the mixture of the formulation and the developer containing an oxidizing agent (mixture). The viscosity was measured using a Rheomat, using a spindle of M2, frequency of 180 seconds.
[0294] It was found that the pH of the formulations and mixtures changed only slightly at different temperatures (room temperature, 4, 37 and 45°C) and over a period of 8 weeks (initial, 4 weeks and 8 weeks) by 8.7-9.6 and 6.2-6.8, respectively. The color, appearance and homogeneity of the formulation remained the same and the color and clear appearance of the mixture did not change under the stated test conditions.
[0295] Example 5- Evaluation of the properties of hair treated with the formulations
[0296] In a comparative study, the hair on the heads of human volunteers (subjects) were first bleached with one of two different types of bleaches (50 to 54 subjects for each type of bleach), then rinsed and shampooed. The subjects were known consumers of commercial hair dye products that were comparable to the formulations according to the disclosure, with the main difference that the commercial products did not contain taurine, citric acid, and monoethanolamine. The formulations according to the disclosure and the comparative formulations were each mixed with a developer composition containing an oxidizing agent (1:1) and applied to the subjects' hair that had been previously bleached. The formulations were left on the hair for 20 minutes and then rinsed. The properties of the bleached / dyed hair were then evaluated by the subjects. The subjects answered a questionnaire on the condition of the hair immediately after treatment / hair dyeing.
[0297] The test formulations were prepared according to the disclosure:

[0300] The bleaching formulations contain 40 to 45% by weight of persulfate compounds (ammonium and / or potassium persulfate), 18 to 20% by weight of silicates (sodium silicate and / or sodium metasilicate), 8 to 10% by weight of magnesium carbonate hydroxide, 8 to 10% by weight of sodium stearate; less than 0.2% by weight of water, and 10% or less by weight of additives such as oils, surfactants, preservatives, etc.), all weights being based on the relative weight of the bleaching formulation.
[0301] Developer formulation
[0302] The developer formulations that are combined with the formulations according to the disclosure typically contain from about 2 to about 3% hydrogen peroxide and from 90 to 98% water. Additional ingredients such as fatty alcohols, nonionic surfactants, chelators, preservatives and glycerin may be present.
[0303] On a 9-point scale (1 is the most negative response and 9 is the most positive response), Examples 5A to 5D, which contained citric acid, ethanolamine and taurine were rated on average between 8 and 9. Thus, the formulations according to the disclosure were considered to provide the hair with good detangling after treatment, good combability, good manageability, a revitalized appearance, a healthy appearance and a smooth character. Examples 5A to 5D also achieved excellent results in hair shading, color deposition, and shine. The overall satisfaction of the subjects was very high and was rated between 8 and 9. There was no significant difference in the ratings given by the subjects treated with either bleaching product, indicating that, regardless of the bleaching treatment, the hair dye mixture containing the formulations according to the disclosure provided favorable hair cosmetic benefits to the hair.
[0304] Example 6 - Evaluation of the resistance of treated hair
[0305] Hair treated with light formulations 6A or 6B (dyes were not not present) were subjected to a miniature tensile test (MTT) to evaluate the strength of the hair after treatment. Both breaking stress and elongation at break results demonstrate a statistically significant improvement in the strength of hair treated with the inventive formulation 6A, compared to hair treated with the comparative formulation 6B.

[0308] The above data demonstrate that formulations according to the disclosure which contain an amino acid such as taurine and a carboxylic acid such as citric acid provide significantly better strength properties to the hair. Example 7 - Tone / Color Deposition Evaluation
[0309] The tone or color deposited on strands of hair treated with oxidative hair dye mixtures containing the formulations of the disclosure was visually compared to the tone or color deposited on strands of hair treated with hair dye mixtures containing the comparative formulations.
[0310] [Tables?] Formulations as per disclosure Comparative formulations Desired tone or color IA 2A Light violet pink IB 2B Light cool golden beige IC 2C Light natural ash, IC cooler than IB 1D 2D Silvery pink ash 1E 2E Light violet with blue tone 1F 2F Light cool ash IG 2G Cool ash, IG darker than 2G
[0311] It was found that by employing new dye combinations in Formulations IA to IG and substituting some of the dyes present in the comparative formulations, the tone or color deposited on the hair by oxidative dye mixtures containing formulations according to the disclosure (IA to II) matched the performance or tone or color deposited by oxidative dye mixtures containing comparative formulations 2A to 2G.
[0312] The above examples demonstrate that the formulations according to the disclosure unexpectedly provide improved strength, smoothness, and feel to the hair, while achieving superior shine on the hair, stability, and color shading and deposition that match the color / tone achieved by the standards on the hair. The color or tone match was achieved by the formulations according to the disclosure that used a different combination of oxidative dyes and / or couplers.
