Description

Title of the invention: Accumulator battery module housing, module equipped with such a housing and associated motor vehicle Technical field of the invention

[0001] The present invention relates generally to the field of accumulator batteries.

[0002] The invention relates more particularly to a housing for an accumulator battery module.

[0003] It also relates to a storage battery module equipped with such a housing.

[0004] The invention finally relates to an associated motor vehicle. State of the art

[0005] Electrically powered motor vehicles, including hybrid thermal and electric vehicles, are generally equipped with an electric motor supplied with current by a plurality of accumulator battery modules.

[0006] Conventionally, each accumulator battery module is formed from a housing which houses a plurality of accumulator cells.

[0007] Such an accumulator battery module is for example known from document EP3637495.

[0008] In this document, the housing has a rear part topped by a cover so as to define a housing for the accumulator cells. The rear part has a U-shaped part, made in one piece, with a bottom wall and two side walls. Two side cover plates make it possible to complete the side walls of the rear part so as to obtain a closed structure.

[0009] The cover cooperates with the rear part by snap-fastening. The entire housing (with the cover) then forms a rigid structure allowing the accumulator cells to be accommodated.

[0010] A thermally conductive layer is arranged at the bottom wall of the rear part (typically the base of the U of the U-shaped part) so as to allow the cooling of the accumulator cells.

[0011] However, this configuration, with a U-shaped rear part leading to a rigid structure for accommodating the accumulator cells, does not allow optimal management of the expansion of the cells resulting from the thermal forces generated by the cells themselves during their charging and discharging. Presentation of the invention

[0012] In order to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks, the present invention proposes to improve the structure of the accumulator battery module.

[0013] More particularly, the invention provides a storage battery module housing comprising: - a rear part provided with a bottom wall bordered by a side wall interrupted at the corners, the side wall comprising a first part and a second part facing each other, at least one of the first part and the second part being connected to the bottom wall by a portion having a plurality of folds, said rear part being formed from a single piece, and - a front part comprising a front wall provided with fixing portions intended to cooperate with the first part and the second part of the side wall of the rear part so as to delimit, with the rear part, a housing for receiving a plurality of accumulator cells.

[0014] Thus, according to the present invention, the presence in the rear part of the housing of the portions having the folds makes it possible to give the housing a flexible character. This then makes it possible to contain the deformations of the cells and to limit the effects of expansion of the walls of the housing while guaranteeing rigidity of the accumulator battery module.

[0015] In addition, this bellows structure makes it easier to mount the accumulator cells in the housing of the accumulator battery module since the panels having the portions with folds can be moved apart during mounting.

[0016] Other advantageous and non-limiting characteristics of the accumulator battery module housing according to the invention, taken individually or in all technically possible combinations, are the following: - the first part and the second part of the side wall are each connected to the bottom wall by said portion having a plurality of folds; - the part connected to the bottom wall by said portion among the first part and the second part has a height lower than the height of the other parts of the side wall of the rear part; - the fixing portions of the front part are fixed by welding to the side wall of the rear part; and - the fixing portion is in the form of a tab protruding from the front wall of the front part and folded towards the side wall of the rear part.

[0017] The invention also relates to an accumulator battery module comprising: - a storage battery module housing as previously introduced, and - a plurality of storage cells positioned in the receiving housing, said receiving housing receiving, at the part connected to the bottom wall by said portion among the first part and the second part of the side wall of the rear part, a side closing plate positioned between the plurality of storage cells and said part connected to the bottom wall by said portion among the first part and the second part of the side wall of the rear part.

[0018] Other advantageous and non-limiting characteristics of the accumulator battery module according to the invention, taken individually or in all technically possible combinations, are the following: - there is provided, at each of the first part and the second part of the side wall of the rear part, a side closing plate positioned between the plurality of accumulator cells and each of the first part and the second part of the side wall of the rear part; - the closing side plate comprises an insulating part and a part for fixing to a receiving support of a motor vehicle; - the insulating part is formed by overmolding a polymer onto the fixing part; - the fixing part is formed from a metallic material; - the fixing part comprises two metal columns, each metal column being intended to be inserted into an open corner of the side wall of the rear part; and - the plurality of accumulator cells is fixed to the bottom wall of the rear part by gluing.

[0019] The invention also relates to a motor vehicle comprising: - a support for receiving a storage battery module, said support for receiving being provided with a cooling circuit, and - a storage battery module as previously introduced, the bottom wall of the rear part of said storage battery module being positioned in contact with said cooling circuit.

[0020] A thermal paste is provided between the cooling circuit and the bottom wall of the rear part of the storage battery module.

[0021] The receiving support comprises means for fixing said accumulator battery module, said fixing means being intended to cooperate with the fixing part of each side closing plate of said accumulator battery module.

[0022] Of course, the various features, variants and embodiments of the invention may be combined with each other in various combinations to the extent that they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. Detailed description of the invention

[0023] The description which follows with reference to the appended drawings, given as non-limiting examples, will make it clear what the invention consists of and how it can be implemented.

[0024] In the attached drawings:

[0025] [Fig-1] represents a schematic view of a motor vehicle equipped with a accumulator battery module according to the invention;

[0026] [Fig.2] represents a schematic perspective view of the accumulator battery module of [Fig.l];

[0027] [Fig.3] is an exploded perspective view of a storage battery module housing included in the storage battery module of [Fig.2]; and

[0028] [Fig.4] is a schematic view of a closing side plate included in the storage battery module of [Fig.2].

[0029] In the present description, the terms "interior" and "exterior" will be used with reference to the housing itself, to designate respectively the side of an element facing the center of the housing and the side of an element facing the outside of this housing.

[0030] In [Fig.l], a motor vehicle 1 is shown equipped with a storage battery module 20 according to the invention.

[0031] This motor vehicle 1 is an electric or hybrid motor vehicle equipped with an electric motor. At least one accumulator battery module 20 (also called “module 20” hereinafter) is designed to supply electric current to the electric motor of the motor vehicle 1.

[0032] This accumulator battery module 20 is for example attached to a receiving support 10 present in the motor vehicle 1. This receiving support 10 is for example integral with the chassis of the motor vehicle 1.

[0033] [Fig. 2] represents a schematic perspective view of the battery module 20 of accumulators. This module 20 comprises a housing 21 of accumulator battery module (also called “housing 21” in the following), a plurality of accumulator cells 40 and at least one closing side plate 30.

[0034] As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the housing 21 generally has a parallelepiped shape. It comprises a rear part 22 and a front part 28.

[0035] In the present description, the terms "front" and "rear" are used in relation to the positioning of the element on the receiving support (on which the element concerned is attached). The rear of this element designates the side facing towards the receiving support on which the element is attached while the front designates the side facing away from this receiving support.

[0036] As shown in [Fig. 3], the rear part 22 comprises a rectangular bottom wall 22A bordered by a side wall 23 interrupted at the corners. The side wall 23 is here formed of four opposite parts two by two, namely two panels 23A, 23C facing each other and two panels 23B, 23D facing each other. The panels 23A, 23B, 23C, 23D rise forward, from the bottom wall 22A.

[0037] Here, the panels 23A, 23C of the side wall 23 form the two large sides of the side wall 23. They form straight portions of this side wall 23, and have a uniform and predetermined height H1.

[0038] Advantageously according to the invention, at least one of the panels 23B, 23D of the side wall 23 is connected to the bottom wall 22A by a portion 26 having a plurality of folds.

[0039] More particularly here, as shown in [Fig. 3], the panels 23B, 23D of the side wall 23 are each connected to the bottom wall 22A by the portion 26 having a plurality of folds.

[0040] In this description, the term "fold" means a part folded back on itself either neatly in order to form an edge line, or by forming a corrugation with a reduced radius of curvature (less than one centimeter). Such a fold thus forms a double thickness.

[0041] Here, the portion 26 is formed at the base of each of the panels 23B, 23D of the side wall 23. The portion 26 has a plurality of successive folds arranged along fold lines parallel to each other. Furthermore, these fold lines are for example parallel to the free end of the panel 23B, 23D concerned.

[0042] By way of illustration, each portion 26 here has the shape of a bellows extending between the bottom wall 22A and the panel 23B, 23D concerned.

[0043] Advantageously according to the invention, the presence of these portions having the folds makes it possible to introduce a certain flexibility, in particular in the event of expansion of the cells 40, in the rear part 22 of the housing 21. This flexibility notably allows the two panels 23B, 23D to move away from each other during rapid charging of the accumulator cells 40.

[0044] As shown in [Fig. 3], at least one of the panels 23B, 23D has a height lower than the panels 23A, 23C forming the long sides of the side wall 23.

[0045] More particularly here, the panel 23B has a uniform and predetermined height H2, less than the height H1 of the panels 23A, 23C. The panel 23D has a uniform and predetermined height H3, less than the height H2 of the opposite panel 23B.

[0046] As will be described below, these differences in height of the panels 23B, 23D are particularly advantageous for the positioning of the closing side plates 30.

[0047] Advantageously, the rear part 22 is made from a single piece. This makes it possible in particular to obtain a rear part of the housing which is rigid but flexible in places and which does not have any weak points, for example resulting from the assembly of several elements. In addition, this makes it easier to manufacture.

[0048] The rear portion 22 is for example formed from an alloy comprising aluminum (preferably more than 50% by mass). Alternatively, it may be formed solely from aluminum.

[0049] As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the front part 28 is provided to close, at the front, the rear part 22. This front part 28 comprises a front wall 28A provided with fixing portions 28B, 28C. The fixing portions 28B, 28C of the front part 28 extend towards the side wall 23. In other words, the fixing portions 28B, 28C extend, from the front wall 28A, towards the rear of the housing 21.

[0050] The fixing portions 28B, 28C are intended to cooperate with the panels 23B, 23C of the side wall 23 of the rear part 22 so as to delimit a receiving housing 25 for the plurality of accumulator cells 40. The fixing portions 28B, 28C allow the closure of the housing (so as to maintain the cells 40 in the receiving housing 25 delimited by the front part 28 and the rear part 22).

[0051] Here, the fixing portions 28B, 28C are fixed by welding to the side wall 23 of the rear part 22. More particularly, weld beads are used, on the one hand, between the fixing portions 28C and the panel 23D, and, on the other hand, between the fixing portion 28B and the panel 23B. Weld beads are also used between the panels 23A, 23C and the edges of the front part 28 not having fixing portions 28B, 28C in order to reinforce the fixing of the front part 28 and the rear part 22. Alternatively, the fixing portions can be fixed to the side wall of the rear part by any other mechanical fixing means.

[0052] In practice, each fixing portion 28B, 28C is in the form of a tab projecting from the front wall 28. More particularly, each tab has a shape folded towards the side wall 23 of the rear part 22. In other words, each fixing portion 28B, 28C is in the form of a tab folded towards the rear of the housing 21.

[0053] As shown in [Fig. 3], opposite the panel 23D of the side wall 23 of the rear part 22, two separate fixing portions 28C are provided. Each of these fixing portions 28C comprises a base portion 29A and a folded portion 29B so as to form the tab of the fixing portion 28C described previously.

[0054] The base portion 29A extends, from the front wall 28A, in the extension thereof. The folded portion 29B extends, from the base portion 29A, substantially orthogonally to the base portion 29A. The folded portion 29B therefore extends towards the rear of the housing 21. The folded portion 29B is intended to be fixed to the panel 23D of the side wall 23 of the rear portion 22.

[0055] Conversely, as shown in [Fig. 2], a single fixing portion 28B is provided. This fixing portion 28B also comprises a base portion 29C and a folded portion 29D, so as to form the tab of the fixing portion 28B described previously.

[0056] The base portion 29C extends, from the front wall 28A, in the extension thereof. The folded portion 29D extends, from the base portion 29C, substantially orthogonally to the base portion 29C. The folded portion 29D therefore extends towards the rear of the housing 21. The folded portion 29D is intended to be fixed on the panel 23B of the side wall 23 of the rear portion 22.

[0057] Here, the fixing portion 28B has a length of the order of the length of the panel 23B. Alternatively, the length of the fixing portion is less than that of the associated panel.

[0058] The front part 28 is for example formed from a single piece, made of aluminum or aluminum alloy.

[0059] The plurality of accumulator cells 40 is positioned in the receiving housing 25 formed by the assembly of the rear part 22 and the front part 28. The accumulator cells 40 are for example positioned next to each other, between the panels 23A, 23C. They are for example sixteen in number here.

[0060] In practice, each cell 40 of the accumulator battery is for example fixed by gluing, on the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22 of the housing 21.

[0061] The cells 40 are here flexible-envelope cells, that is to say cells 40 whose envelopes can deform when they are inserted into the receiving housing 25 formed by the front part 28 and the rear part 22 and when they are charged and discharged. Advantageously, the rear part 22 of the accumulator battery module housing 21 makes it possible to contain the deformation of the cells thanks to the portions 26 having the folds. Indeed, the portions 26 make it possible to introduce a flexibility characteristic for the housing 21 of the module 20 while guaranteeing the overall rigidity of the housing 21.

[0062] More particularly, the flexible-envelope cells 40 comprise a flexible outer envelope which contains inside an electrolyte of organic solution or of a solution based on carbonate and lithium salts.

[0063] This is for example a Lithium-ion type electrolyte, wrapped in an envelope consisting of a plastic film surrounded by a laminated aluminum film. The plastic film is intended to isolate the electrolyte contained in the cell 35 from the film of aluminum.

[0064] These flexible-envelope cells 40, well known to those skilled in the art, will not be described in more detail here.

[0065] In order to allow the module 20 to be closed (i.e. by obstructing the space available between the plurality of accumulator cells 40 and the panels 23B, 23D of the rear part 22 of the housing 21), the accumulator battery module 20 comprises at least one lateral closing plate 30. In the case where a single panel 23B, 23D connected to the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22 by the portion 26 is provided, a single lateral closing plate 30 is also provided in the module 20.

[0066] In practice here, a side closure plate 30 is positioned at each of the panels 23B, 23D (as each of the two panels 23B, 23D is connected to the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22 by the portion 26). In other words (but not visible in the figures), the accumulator battery module 20 therefore comprises two side closure plates 30 (one at each of the panels 23B, 23D).

[0067] An example of a closing side plate 30 is shown in [Fig.4].

[0068] As can be seen in this figure, each closing side plate 30 comprises an insulating part 32 and a fixing part 35 to the receiving support 10 of the motor vehicle 1.

[0069] The fixing part 35 is here formed from a metallic material. It is for example formed from aluminum.

[0070] More particularly, two separate fixing parts 35 are provided. Here, they are in the form of metal columns pierced with a longitudinal conduit and designed to cooperate with complementary fixing means present on the receiving support 10.

[0071] In order for these fixing parts 35 to be able to cooperate with the fixing means of the receiving support 10, the fixing parts 35 are positioned opposite the open corners of the side wall 23 of the rear part 22. In this way, when the module 20 is attached to the receiving support 10, the cooperation between the fixing parts 35 of each side closure plate 30 attached in the rear part 22 of the module 20 and the corresponding fixing means of the receiving support 10 is not hindered by the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22 of the module 20.

[0072] In order to allow the module 20 to be fixed to the receiving support 10, the bottom of the receiving support 10 comprises fixing means (not shown). These fixing means are designed to cooperate with the fixing parts 35 of each side closing plate 30 of the module 20. In other words, the fixing means of the receiving support 10 are here designed to cooperate with the longitudinal openings formed in the metal columns of the side plates of closing 30.

[0073] These means for fixing the receiving support 10 are, for example, lugs projecting from the bottom of the receiving support 10 and each cooperating with the corresponding longitudinal opening of a metal column 35 formed at the corners of each lateral closing plate 30.

[0074] The insulating part 32 is here formed by overmolding a polymer onto the fixing part 35. In other words, the insulating part 32 is formed by overmolding a plastic material onto the fixing part 35. In practice, each metal column has a plurality of attachment points to which the polymer used to form the insulating part 32 attaches during overmolding. This material used for the insulating part makes it possible to ensure electrical insulation of the elements of the housing 21 of the accumulator battery module.

[0075] As can be seen in [Fig. 4], the insulating part 32 comprises, on its front face 30A, mounting portions 37 allowing the side closure plate 30 to be mounted in the housing 21. These mounting portions 37 are, for example, here lugs 37 projecting from the front face of the side closure plate 30 and intended to come into abutment against the panel 23B, 23D concerned (i.e. the panel 23B, 23D against which the side closure plate 30 is mounted).

[0076] Alternatively, the front face of the side closure plate may be devoid of these mounting portions. Alternatively, only one of the side closure plates may be provided with these mounting portions.

[0077] These mounting portions 37 are also shaped to allow the integration of connection plates (not shown) to which tabs (anode or cathode) of the accumulator cells 40 are connected (for example by welding). These connection plates are then, for example, screwed onto the mounting portions 37.

[0078] In order to guarantee rigidity of the accumulator battery module 20, each side closure plate 30 is fixed inside the rear part 22 of the module 20. More particularly, each side closure plate 30 is positioned resting on the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22, at the level of the portions 26 having the folds. Here, each side closure plate 30 is for example fixed by welding on the panels 23A, 23B, 23C, 23D.

[0079] Each side closing plate 30 is for example fixed by welding to the rear part 22 of the housing 21 of the accumulator battery module 20.

[0080] At least one of the side closure plates 30 is provided with a connection element (not shown) connected to electrical connection terminals of the accumulator cells 40. This connection element then allows the exchange of electrical signals between the interior of the accumulator battery module 20 and the exterior of this module 20.

[0081] The height H3 of the panel 23D, lower than the heights of the other panels 23A, 23B, 23C of the side wall 23 of the rear part 22 of the housing 21, is particularly advantageous for the positioning of this connection element (and the exchange of the electrical signal with the exterior of the module 20). Indeed, the space available between the free end of the panel 23D of the side wall 23 of the rear part 22, the free end of the front wall 28A of the front part 28 and the free ends of the fixing portions 28C makes it possible to accommodate this connection element and also to access this connection element from the exterior of the accumulator battery module 20.

[0082] The structure of the side closing plate 30 is particularly advantageous. Indeed, thanks to its bi-material character, it combines a part having an electrical insulation function and a more rigid part, allowing the accumulator battery module to be fixed to the receiving support present in the motor vehicle. It thus makes it possible to close the module 20 while allowing it to be fixed to the receiving support 10.

[0083] Finally, once all the elements are assembled, the rear part 22 of the housing 21 also forms the rear part of the accumulator battery module 20 and the front part 28 of the housing 21 also forms the front part of the module 20.

[0084] In order to enable the electric motor of the motor vehicle 1 to be supplied with electric current, the accumulator battery module 20 is positioned in the receiving support 10.

[0085] The receiving support 10 comprises, at its bottom, a cooling circuit (not shown in the figures). The cooling effect is for example obtained from the circulation of water in the cooling circuit.

[0086] The cooling circuit is designed to cool, by conduction, the accumulator cells 40. For this, the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22 of the housing 21 of the accumulator battery module 20 is positioned in contact with the bottom of the receiving support 10.

[0087] In order to improve the conduction phenomenon (and therefore the cooling), a thermal paste (not shown) is positioned between the bottom of the receiving support 10 and the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22 of the housing 21 of the storage battery module 20. In other words, this thermal paste is positioned between the cooling circuit and the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22 of the housing 21 of the storage battery module 20 so as to improve the efficiency of the thermal conduction between the cooling circuit and the cells 40 (fixed on the bottom wall 22A of the rear part 22 of the housing 21 of the storage battery module 20).

[0088] This thermal paste makes it possible to avoid the formation of an air gap between the cooling circuit and the cells 40, which makes it possible to improve the conduction phenomenon and therefore the cooling.

[0089] The receiving support 10 is for example formed here so as to be impervious to water drops or dust which could enter the accumulator battery module. The imperviousness is here evaluated according to the IP67 standard according to the EN60529 standard.

[0090] According to an alternative embodiment, the folded tabs forming the attachment portions of the front part on the panels of the side wall of the rear part may be different in number and shape as long as their cooperation with the panels of the side wall of the rear part is possible to close the housing (therefore the accumulator battery module) and hold the accumulator cells in the delimited reception housing.

[0091] Generally, it should be noted that the dimensions of the front and rear parts of the housing of the storage battery module, as well as those of the receiving support, are adapted according to the number of storage cells housed in the module. In the example described above, the dimensions are adjusted so that the storage battery module contains 16 cells.

[0092] The embodiment described above only concerns a receiving support associated with a storage battery module.

[0093] The present invention is of course applicable in the case where a plurality of accumulator battery modules are included in the motor vehicle. In such a case, a plurality of accumulator battery modules may be considered juxtaposed next to each other in the motor vehicle, each module of the plurality being attached to a corresponding receiving support. A single receiving support may also be considered accommodating a plurality of accumulator battery modules (the accumulator battery modules being positioned, for example, next to each other on the bottom of the single receiving support).

[0094] Finally, thanks to the presence of the bellows in the rear part of the housing of the accumulator battery module, it is possible to have a certain flexibility of the walls of the housing making it possible to contain the deformations of the cells and to limit the effects of expansion of the walls of the housing while guaranteeing rigidity of the accumulator battery module.

[0095] In addition, this bellows structure makes it easier to mount the accumulator cells in the housing of the accumulator battery module since the panels having the portions with folds can be moved apart during mounting.

[0096] Finally, the production of the side closing plates in two materials makes it possible to combine, in a single piece, an electrical insulation function and a reinforcement to consolidate the rigidity of the accumulator battery module and to fix it to the receiving support present in the motor vehicle.

[0097] In addition, the use of the side closing plates makes it possible to control, and in particular to fill, the space available between the accumulator cells and the walls of the module housing. This makes it possible in particular to optimize the dimensions (in particular the length) of the cells attached to the housing of the accumulator battery module.
