Description

Title of the invention: Internal opening control for motor vehicles with opposing doors

[0001] The present invention relates to the field of motor vehicles with opposing openings, and more particularly to the opening mechanisms of the openings of such motor vehicles.

[0002] Opposing openings, or opposing doors, correspond to side openings of a motor vehicle that open opposite each other. For example, the front opening opens by pivoting around an axis located in front of this front opening, while the rear opening opens by pivoting around an axis located behind this rear opening, the qualifications "front" and "rear" of the openings being appreciated in relation to a front and a rear of the motor vehicle.

[0003] The front and rear openings may, when closed, rest on a central pillar of the motor vehicle. However, some motor vehicles do not have such a central pillar, in order to allow wide access to the passenger compartment and, in particular, to facilitate the entry of passengers into that passenger compartment.

[0004] For these vehicles, the front opening is usually at least partially closed over the rear opening. It is therefore necessary that, when closing the openings, the rear opening be closed before the front opening, and conversely that when opening them, the front opening be opened before the rear opening.

[0005] To this end, the driver or front passenger can operate the front door, and then, once out of the vehicle, operate the rear door to free a rear passenger. However, this arrangement requires the intervention of a third party to allow a rear passenger to exit the vehicle. Alternatively, the rear passenger can lean into the vehicle until they reach an interior handle controlling the front door, and then open the rear door themselves. However, neither of these solutions is satisfactory because they lack practicality for the rear passenger.

[0006] The present invention aims to overcome this drawback by proposing a motor vehicle in which the opening of opposing doors is facilitated for a rear passenger user of the motor vehicle, this rear passenger being able to control an opening of the front door from the rear seat.

[0007] The present invention thus has as its principal object a motor vehicle comprising a body and two opposing side openings mounted on the body, among which a front opening and a rear opening, these openings being configured to take a first position in which they are closed and a second position in which they are open, the motor vehicle comprising an opening device including a locking means for the front opening disposed on the front opening and engaged with the rear opening when the openings are in their first position, a control member configured to control the locking means, the opening device comprising at least one locking member for the rear opening disposed on the rear opening and engaged with the body when the rear opening is in its first position, the opening device comprising a means for actuating the control member and the locking member, this actuating means being disposed on the rear opening.

[0008] The motor vehicle according to the invention comprises two opposing openings, which are pivotally mounted on the vehicle body. For example, the motor vehicle includes two opposing openings on its right side and two opposing openings on its left side. Such opposing openings have pivot points respectively arranged on the body at opposite ends to a central portion of the motor vehicle where the openings meet.

[0009] Both the front and rear openings are configured to assume either a first or closed position, or a second or open position, with the transition from one position to the other being achieved by pivoting the opening. The opening is considered to be in its second position as soon as it is not closed, that is, as soon as a lock on that opening is released. Thus, there are multiple possible positions of the opening when it is in its second position, each of these positions corresponding to a different angle of inclination of the opening relative to a principal direction of extension of the motor vehicle.

[0010] A device for opening the doors is configured to move the doors from their first position to their second position, that is, to open them. This opening device allows both the front and rear doors to be opened in a single operation by a passenger seated at the rear of the motor vehicle according to the invention.

[0011] In the first position of the openings, the front opening is locked onto the rear opening, while this rear opening is itself locked onto the body of the motor vehicle. More specifically, the front opening includes for this purpose a locking means that engages with the rear opening, while the rear opening includes at least one locking element that engages with the body.

[0012] The locking means and the locking member are unlocked by the same actuation means of the opening device; unlocking the locking member The locking mechanism engages directly via the actuating means, while unlocking the locking means involves an intermediate control element. In other words, to unlock the front opening, the activation of the actuating means triggers the activation of the control element, which unlocks the locking means.

[0013] Either the actuation means acts directly on the control member mechanically, or this actuation means acts via an electrical network of the motor vehicle which passes an opening request issued by the actuation means to a computer before unlocking the locking means.

[0014] The actuation means is located on the rear opening. Due to this arrangement, the actuation means is directly accessible to the rear passenger, who can thus control the opening of both openings from their rear seat.

[0015] According to an optional feature of the invention, the motor vehicle is devoid of a middle pillar between the two openings.

[0016] In other words, the motor vehicle does not include a central longitudinal member on which the openings would rest in their closed position. In this closed position of each of the two openings, the front opening is at least partially overlapping the rear opening so that its locking means is engaged with the rear opening.

[0017] According to an optional feature of the invention, the control member is arranged on the front opening.

[0018] According to an optional feature of the invention, the front opening comprises a front rebate and a rear rebate, the control member being disposed closer to the rear rebate than to the front rebate.

[0019] The arrangement of the front and rear rebates of the front opening is determined in relation to the front and rear of the motor vehicle. The presence of the control element in the vicinity of the rear rebate brings it closer to the rear opening, and by extension, to the actuation means carried by this rear opening.

[0020] According to an optional feature of the invention, at least one locking member comprises a first locking member and a second locking member, the first locking member being disposed on an upper edge of the rear opening and the second locking member being disposed on a lower edge, the upper edge being disposed above the lower edge relative to a vertical direction substantially parallel to a direction perpendicular to the ground on which the motor vehicle rests.

[0021] The first locking member and the second locking member are thus vertically opposed. This arrangement of the locking members allows, in the first position of the rear opening, to secure it to the vehicle body at two distinct points, so as to distribute the forces on the body and ensure a more reliable connection.

[0022] According to an optional feature of the invention, the rear opening comprises a front rebate and a rear rebate, the actuation means being disposed closer to the front rebate than to the rear rebate.

[0023] Similar to what has been specified for the front opening, the arrangement of the front and rear rebates of the rear opening is assessed in relation to the front and rear of the motor vehicle.

[0024] According to an optional feature of the invention, the front opening includes an internal opening control closer to the front rebate than to the rear rebate.

[0025] This internal opening control is in particular an opening handle arranged in a conventional manner in an area easily accessible to a passenger seated at the front of the vehicle, namely closer to the front rebate of the front opening than to its rear rebate.

[0026] According to an optional feature of the invention, the control member electrically controls the locking means.

[0027] The control element is in particular a push button actuated by the actuation means. Alternatively, the control element takes the form of a magnetic detector, for example a Hall effect sensor.

[0028] According to an optional feature of the invention, the control member mechanically controls the locking means.

[0029] The control unit controls, for example, the locking means by means of a cable and rod system.

[0030] According to an optional feature of the invention, the opening device includes a time-shifting means between the actuation of the control member and the actuation of the locking member.

[0031] This time-shifting mechanism ensures that, when the openings move from their first to their second position, the front opening opens before the rear opening. Otherwise, the rear opening would be prevented from opening by the front opening, which would be engaged with it.

[0032] The invention further relates to a method for opening the doors of a motor vehicle as mentioned above, comprising a first step of actuating the control member and then a second step of actuating the locking member.

[0033] The first and second actuation steps are both implemented by the actuation means. A processing delay between the first step The actuation phase and the second actuation phase are, for example, on the order of a few tenths of a second, so that the front opening is opened first and the rear opening second. The processing delay is achieved in particular by means of a time offset in the opening mechanism.

[0034] Other features, details and advantages of the invention will become clearer upon reading the following description on the one hand, and the illustrative and non-limiting examples of embodiments given with reference to the accompanying drawings on the other hand, in which:

[0038] [Fig.4] illustrates, schematically, the rear opening of the vehicle according to the second embodiment, seen from inside the motor vehicle of [Fig.1].

[0039] The features, variants, and different embodiments of the invention can be combined in various ways, provided they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, variants of the invention may be conceived comprising only a selection of features, described hereafter in isolation from the other described features, if this selection of features is sufficient to confer a technical advantage and / or to differentiate the invention from the prior art.

[0040] In the figures, the elements common to several figures retain the same reference.

[0041] In the detailed description that follows, the terms "longitudinal," "vertical," and "transverse" refer to the orientation of the motor vehicle according to the invention. A longitudinal direction corresponds to a principal extension direction of the motor vehicle, this longitudinal direction being parallel to a longitudinal axis L of a frame of reference L, V, T illustrated in the figures. A vertical direction corresponds to a direction substantially perpendicular to the ground on which the motor vehicle rests, this vertical direction being parallel to a vertical axis V of the frame of reference L, V, T, and this vertical axis V being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis L. Finally, a transverse direction corresponds to a direction parallel to a transverse axis T of the L, V, T frame, this transverse axis T being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis L and to the vertical axis V.

[0042] Figure 1 schematically illustrates a motor vehicle 1 according to the invention, this motor vehicle 1 being shown from the outside in a side view. The motor vehicle 1 extends along a main extension direction which corresponds to a longitudinal direction L. The motor vehicle 1 is delimited, along this longitudinal direction, by a first longitudinal end 2 and a second longitudinal end 4. The first longitudinal end 2 corresponds to the front of the motor vehicle 1, in particular opposite a driver's seat of this motor vehicle 1, while the second longitudinal end 4 corresponds to its rear, opposite a trunk of the motor vehicle 1, for example.

[0043] The motor vehicle 1 comprises a body 6, which is a structural element on which openings 8, 10 of the motor vehicle 1 rest. The motor vehicle 1 comprises, by virtue of these openings 8, 10, at least one front opening 8 and one rear opening 10. It is understood that the front opening 8 is closer to the first longitudinal end 4 than the rear opening 10, and conversely that this rear opening 10 is closer to the second longitudinal end 6 than the front opening 8. More precisely, the motor vehicle 1 comprises two front openings 8 and two rear openings 10, arranged in pairs on each lateral side of the motor vehicle 1. In what follows, the elements described in relation to a pair of openings 8, 10, that is, a front opening 8 and a rear opening 10 arranged on a given lateral side, are applicable to the openings 8 and 10 arranged the other side of the motor vehicle 1.

[0044] The openings 8, 10 are more specifically antagonistic openings, that is to say, openings which open opposite each other and meet in a central portion of the motor vehicle 1, such a central portion being assessed relative to the longitudinal direction L. The openings 8, 10 are pivotally mounted on the body 6; thus, the front opening 8 has a pivot axis towards the first longitudinal end 2 of the motor vehicle 1, while the rear opening 10 has a pivot axis towards its second longitudinal end 4. Each of the openings 8, 10 pivots relative to the body 6 by means of hinges 12, which are illustrated schematically in [Fig. 1].

[0045] Due to this pivoting of the openings 8, 10 relative to the body 6, the front and rear openings 10 each have a first position in which they are closed and a second position in which they are open. The first position is thus a closed position and the second position an open position. Here, it is considered that the openings 8, 10 have a single closed position, and that they are in their open position whenever they are not in this closed position. In the first position or closed position, the openings 8, 10 are locked to each other and / or to the body 6 of the motor vehicle 1.

[0046] Each of the openings 8,10 includes a front rebate 14 and a rear rebate 16, which correspond to slices of the opening 8. More particularly, the front opening 8 includes a front rebate 14A opposite the first longitudinal end 2 and a rear rebate 16A opposite the second longitudinal end 4, and similarly the rear opening 10 has a front rebate 14B opposite the first longitudinal end 2 and a rear rebate 16B opposite the second longitudinal end 4.

[0047] The motor vehicle 1 lacks a center pillar between the openings 8, 10, so that in the first position of the openings 8, 10, the rear rebate 16A of the front opening 8 is thus opposite and in contact with the front rebate 14B of the rear opening 10. Furthermore, the front rebate 14A of the front opening 8 and the rear rebate 16B of the rear opening 10 carry the hinges 12 which allow each of these openings 8, 10 to pivot.

[0048] According to the invention, the transition of the front opening 8 and the rear opening 10 from their first position to their second position is achieved by an opening device 18 for the openings 8, 10. Such an opening device 14 will now be described in relation to Figures 2 to 4. A first embodiment of this opening device 18 is illustrated in Figures 2 and 4, while a second embodiment is shown in [Fig.3].

[0049] The opening device 18 extends, at least partially, over both the front opening 8 and the rear opening 10. More specifically, the opening device 18 is arranged, at least in part, within a thickness of the front opening 8 and the rear opening 10, that is to say, between their inner faces which delimit a passenger compartment of the motor vehicle 1 and their outer faces which correspond to an exterior body of the motor vehicle 1. In Figures 2 and 3 in particular, for illustrative purposes, the opening device 18 is shown in the foreground, that is to say, in front of the openings 8, 10; it is understood that in reality, the opening device 18 is covered, at least partially, by trims of these openings 8, 10.

[0050] The opening device 18 includes, at the level of the rear opening 10, at least one locking member 20. More specifically, the opening device here includes, by virtue of this, at least one locking member 20, comprising both a first locking member 20A and a second locking member 20B, as can be seen in Figures 2 and 3. Within the rear opening 10, the first and second locking members 20A, 20B are opposed in a vertical direction V perpendicular to the ground on which the motor vehicle 1 rests. Thus, the first locking member 20A is disposed on an upper edge 22 of the rear opening 10, while the second The locking element 20B is located on a lower edge 24 of the vehicle, the lower edge 24 being closer to the ground than the upper edge 22. The locking elements 20A and 20B are locks that secure the rear door 10 to the body 6 of the motor vehicle 1. Each of the first locking element 20A and the second locking element 20B engages with the body 6 in the first position of the rear door 10. The locking elements 20A and 20B have, for example, bolts that engage in strike plates on the body 6.

[0051] In a locked state of the locking members 20A, 20B, which corresponds to the first position or closed position of the rear opening 10, the locking members 20A, 20B are engaged with the body 6. Conversely, in an unlocked state of the locking members 20A, 20B, which corresponds to the second position or open position of the rear opening 10, the locking members 20A, 20B are not engaged with the body 6.

[0052] The locking elements 20A, 20B are actuated by an actuation means 26 of the opening device 18. In other words, the actuation means 26 allows the locking elements 20A, 20B to move from their locked state to their unlocked state. This actuation means 26 is located on the rear opening 10. It corresponds, for example, to an internal handle of the rear opening 10. The actuation means 26 is located more specifically closer to the front rebate 14B of the rear opening 10 than to its rear rebate 16B. Furthermore, the actuation means 26 is located in a central part of the rear opening 10 in the vertical direction V, that is, at a distance from both the upper edge 22 and the lower edge 20.

[0053] In the first embodiment, that is, the embodiment illustrated in [Fig. 2] and [Fig. 4], the actuating means 26 mechanically controls the first locking member 20A and the second locking member 20B. The actuating means 26 is, for example, connected to each of these locking members 20A, 20B by means of cables and sheaths as well as rods. The opening device 18 here comprises a first cable 28 mechanically and physically connecting the actuating means 26 to the first locking member 20A and a second cable 30 connecting this actuating means 26 to the second locking member 20B.

[0054] In the second embodiment, shown in [Fig.3], the actuation means 26 electrically controls the first locking member 20A and the second locking member 20B, via an electrical system of the motor vehicle 1. In this second embodiment, either the opening device does not include the cables 28, 30, or these cables 28, 30 correspond to a backup device in case of malfunction of the electrical system.

[0055] In addition to at least one locking member 20, the actuating means 26 is configured to actuate a control member 32 of the opening device, this control member 32 itself controlling a locking member 34 of the opening device 18. Such control of the control member 32 by the actuating means 26 is, in particular, an electrical control. The locking member 34 is similar to the locking members 20 in that it corresponds to a lock for the front opening 8.

[0056] The locking means 34 is carried by the front opening 8, more particularly by its rear rebate 16A. The locking means 34 of the front opening 8 is engaged with the rear opening 10. It corresponds, for example, to a bolt which fits into a strike plate 36 fitted to the front rebate 14B of the rear opening 10, such a strike plate 36 being visible in [Fig.4]. In a locked state of the locking means 34, which corresponds to the first or closed position of the front opening 8, this locking means 8 is engaged with the rear opening 10. Conversely, in an unlocked state of the locking means 34, which corresponds to the second or open position of the rear opening 10, the locking means 34 is not engaged with the rear opening 10. It follows from the above that in the first or closed position of the front opening 8, it is engaged with the rear opening 10.

[0057] As previously mentioned, the locking means 34 of the front opening 8 is controlled via the control member 32. Depending on the embodiment, the control member 32 either electrically controls the locking means 34 or mechanically controls it. When the control member 32 electrically controls the locking means 34, this control member may be a push button or a magnetic detector, in particular a Hall effect sensor. Conversely, when the control member 32 mechanically controls the locking means 34, the control member 34 is, for example, connected to the locking means via a system of cables and rods.

[0058] When the control member 32 electrically controls the locking means 34, it can be located anywhere within the motor vehicle 1. Here, the control member 32 is located on the front door 8. More precisely, the control member 32 is located closer to the rear rebate 16A of the front door 8 than to its front rebate 14A. With mechanical control of the locking means 34, this reduces the size of the cable and rod system connecting the control member 32 to this locking means 34, which is located within the rear rebate 16A of the front door 8. The control member 32 is also located in a central part of the front door 8 relative to the vertical direction V. The control member 32 carried by the front door 8 is thus made substantially in relation to the actuation means 26 carried by the rear opening 10, so as to facilitate actuation of the control member 32 by the actuation means 26.

[0059] The front opening 8 further includes an internal opening control 38, which corresponds to an internal door handle of the motor vehicle 1 that can be used by a driver or front passenger of the motor vehicle 1 to move the front opening 8 from its first position to its second position. More specifically, the internal opening control 38 is configured to move the locking means 34 from its locked state, in which it is engaged with the rear opening 10, to its unlocked state.

[0060] This internal opening control 38 is located closer to the front rebate 14A of the front opening 8 than to its rear rebate 16A when a front seat of the motor vehicle 1 is oriented towards the first longitudinal direction 2 of it, and conversely the internal opening control 38 is closer to the rear rebate 16A of the front opening 8 than to the front rebate 14A when the front seat is oriented towards the second longitudinal direction 4.

[0061] The internal opening control 38 is distinct from the opening device 18 in that it can be actuated independently of the latter to unlock the locking means 34. In this way, the front opening 8 moves from its first position to its second position while the rear opening 10 remains in its first position. In other words, the internal opening control 38 allows only the front opening 8 to be opened.

[0062] In certain embodiments of the invention, the motor vehicle 1 is equipped with a device for managing contact between the openings 8, 10 when these openings 8, 10 pass from their first position to their second position. The contact management device is intended to manage friction between the front opening 8 and the rear opening 10. The contact management device 18 comprises for this purpose two portions each disposed on one of the openings 8, 10, with more precisely an elastically deformable portion attached to one of the openings 8, 10 and a friction portion attached to the other opening 8, 10. The elastically deformable portion and the friction portion are in contact with each other in the first position or closed position of the openings 8, 10, and they cooperate with each other during the passage of the openings 8, 10 from their first position to their second position or open position.Such cooperation helps to limit the risks of damage to the openings 8, 10 when in contact with each other, particularly when the rear rebate 16A of the front opening 8 rubs against the front rebate 14B of the rear opening 10.

[0063] The elastically deformable portion allows the rear rebate 16A to be moved away from the front opening 8 and / or the front rebate 14B from the rear opening 10 of the body 6, by a pivoting of the openings 8,10 around their pivot points thanks to their hinges 12 arranged respectively at the front rebate 14A for the front opening 8 and at the rear rebate 16B for the rear opening 10.

[0064] A deformation of the elastically deformable portion corresponds to its transition from a first rest configuration to a second retracted configuration, and conversely to its transition from the second retracted configuration to the first rest configuration. The elastically deformable portion is, for example, an ejector finger at one end of which is arranged a rotating roller intended to roll against the friction portion, or a spring blade.

[0065] A method for opening the openings 8, 10 by the opening device 18 of the motor vehicle 1 according to the invention will now be described. Such an opening method allows both the front opening 8 and the rear opening 10 to move from their first position to their second position, in a simplified manner for a passenger seated in the rear of the motor vehicle 1.

[0066] The method of opening the openings 8,10 begins with a step of manipulation, by a user of the motor vehicle 1, of the actuating means 26. When this actuating means 26 is an interior handle of the rear opening 10, this corresponds in particular to pulling this interior handle.

[0067] Manipulating the actuating means 26 results in a first step of actuating the control member 32, which is followed by a second step of simultaneously actuating the first locking member 20A and the second locking member 20B. Thus, manipulating the actuating means 26 initially actuates the control member 32, which controls the locking means of the front opening 8, moving it from its locked state to its unlocked state and thereby releasing the front opening 8 from the rear opening. In other words, the front opening 8 moves from its first closed position to its second open position. Subsequently, manipulating the actuating means 26 actuates at least one locking member 20, here the first locking member 20A and the second locking member 20B, which are both actuated at the same time. This action moves them from their locked state to their unlocked state, and by extension allows the rear opening 10 to move from its first closed position to its second open position.

[0068] For example, when manipulating the interior handle corresponding to the actuation means 26 of the rear opening 10, it first actuates at the beginning of its stroke the push button corresponding to the control member 32, then in a continuation of the stroke it pulls both on the first cable 28 and the second cable 30 to unlock respectively the first locking member 20A and the second locking member 20B.

[0069] Since the front opening 8 is engaged with the rear opening 10 when both are in the first position, the actuation sequence of the control member 32 and the locking members 20A, 20B cannot be changed. Otherwise, if the locking members 20A, 20B are actuationed before the control member 32, the openings 8, 10 could not open. To ensure that the actuation sequence of the control member 32 before the locking members 20A, 20B is respected, the opening device 18 includes, for example, a means of creating a time delay between the actuation of the control member 32 and the locking members 20A, 20B. Such a means of time shift, or timer, makes it possible in particular to delay the actuation of the locking devices 20A, 20B by a few tenths of a second relative to the actuation of the control device 32.

[0070] Once the control member 32 and the locking members 20A, 20B have been actuated by the actuating means 26, both these locking members 20A, 20B and the locking means 34 of the front opening 8 are in their unlocked state. The front opening 8 and the rear opening 10 are then still in contact with each other; for example, the openings 8, 10 have an opening angle of between 5 and 10°. The rear passenger can push the rear door 10 to expel the front door 8 and exit the vehicle 1. Alternatively, the vehicle 1 includes a motorized system for the doors 8 and 10, so that as soon as the doors 8 and 10 have moved from their first to their second position, a motorized continuation of their opening travel is achieved. This reduces the effort required by the occupant of the vehicle 1 to open the doors 8 and 10.

[0071] In embodiments where the motor vehicle 1 is equipped with a contact management device between the openings 8, 10, during the transition from the first position of the openings 8, 10 to their second position, the passenger pushes on the opening 8, 10 next to which they are seated. For a rear passenger, the push is made on the rear opening 10. The rear opening 10 then pushes the front opening 8 out, the elastically deformable portion rubbing against the friction portion. During this friction, the elastically deformable portion is in its second retracted configuration. When the push of the rear opening 10 on the front opening 8 is sufficient, the openings 8, 10 separate from each other. In the absence of stress or pressure exerted against the friction portion, the elastically deformable portion returns to its first rest configuration. The passenger can then exit the motor vehicle 1.

[0072] The present invention thus proposes a motor vehicle in which an opening of a front opening and a rear opening, which are antagonistic, is carried out by means of an actuation easily accessible to a rear passenger user of the motor vehicle, such an actuation means allowing the opening of both the front and rear opening.

[0073] The present invention is not limited to the means and configurations described and illustrated herein and also extends to any equivalent means and configuration as well as to any technically operative combination of such means.
