Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Method and device for controlling an on-board system of a vehicle Technical field
[0001] The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling an on-board system of a vehicle, in particular of the automobile type. The invention also relates to a method and a device for controlling a human-machine interface of a vehicle. Technological background
[0002] Some contemporary vehicles have several screens on board to display information useful to the driver for driving the vehicle as well as comfort information, such as, for example, information for interacting with the infotainment system, also called the IVI system (from the English "In-Vehicle Infotainment" or in French "Infodivertissement embargo"), of the vehicle.
[0003] Among these screens, it is known to embed one or more LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) type screens, for example TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) type, or OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) type.
[0004] The integration of such screens makes it possible, for example, to control, via a graphic Human-Machine Interface, known as HMI, displayed on such screens, the operating status of the systems embedded in the vehicle, for example the AD AS systems (from the English “Advanced Driver-Assistance System” or in French “Advanced Driving Assistance System”).
[0005] The multiplication of systems embedded in the vehicle and the multiplication of means of command or control of these systems lead to a complexity of 1THM by which a user interacts with the embedded systems to control them, with in particular a multiplication of icons, displayed messages or command shortcuts whose control and management are consequently complicated for a user. The user experience is degraded and the attention of the driver of the vehicle can be reduced when different messages are displayed on the on-board screen(s).
[0006] Furthermore, the multiplication of display devices in a vehicle as well as the multiplication of means of controlling the on-board systems increases the price of these vehicles and complicates access to information for the driver and / or passengers of the vehicle, which can also degrade the user experience. Summary of the present invention
[0007] An object of the present invention is to solve at least one of the problems of the technological background described above.
[0008] Another object of the present invention is to improve the control of an on-board system of a vehicle.
[0009] Another object of the present invention is to improve the user experience with respect to the control of this on-board system.
[0010] According to a first aspect, the present invention relates to a method for controlling an on-board system of a vehicle comprising a steering wheel, a circumference of which defines two main directions, a set of sensors being distributed spatially along a plurality of segments of the circumference, the method comprising the following steps: - reception of first data representative of a tactile slide, the touch swipe being performed from a first segment of the plurality to a second segment of the plurality, the first data being received from a portion of the set of sensors associated with the first and second segments; - determination of an order based on the first data; - control of the vehicle's on-board system according to the command.
[0011] The method thus makes it possible to control an on-board system of the vehicle without having to resort to additional control buttons. In addition, since a driver of the vehicle has his hands on the steering wheel, it is then easy to activate controls without taking his eyes off the road.
[0012] According to a variant of the method, the two main directions are orthogonal.
[0013] It is then easy to identify specific commands, the two directions being very distinct. In addition, these commands are intuitive for a user.
[0014] According to another variant of the method, the set of sensors is distributed symmetrically with respect to a plane of symmetry parallel to one of the two main directions.
[0015] According to another variant of the method, the set of sensors covers the entire perimeter, a single sensor covering each of the segments of the perimeter.
[0016] The sensors thus form a continuous chain along the circumference of the steering wheel.
[0017] According to a variant of the additional method, a sensor of the set of sensors is a capacitive sensor.
[0018] According to another variant of the method, a sensor of the set of sensors is a pressure sensor.
[0019] According to yet another variant, the method further comprises receiving second data representative of two tactile presses on at least one third sensor of the set of sensors, the order being further determined based on the second data.
[0020] Using two touch presses makes it possible to increase the number of possible commands with the same set of sensors.
[0021] According to a second aspect, the present invention relates to a device for controlling an on-board system of a vehicle, the device comprising a memory associated with a processor configured for implementing the steps of the method according to the first aspect of the present invention.
[0022] According to a third aspect, the present invention relates to a vehicle, for example of the automobile type, comprising a device as described above according to the second aspect of the present invention or a system as described above according to the third aspect of the present invention.
[0023] According to a fourth aspect, the present invention relates to a computer program which comprises instructions adapted for executing the steps of the method according to the first aspect of the present invention, in particular when the computer program is executed by at least one processor.
[0024] Such a computer program may use any programming language, and be in the form of source code, object code, or intermediate code between source code and object code, such as in a partially compiled form, or in any other desirable form.
[0025] According to a fifth aspect, the present invention relates to a computer-readable recording medium on which is recorded a computer program comprising instructions for carrying out the steps of the method according to the first aspect of the present invention.
[0026] On the one hand, the recording medium may be any entity or device capable of storing the program. For example, the medium may comprise a storage means, such as a ROM memory, a CD-ROM or a microelectronic circuit type ROM memory, or a magnetic recording means or a hard disk.
[0027] Furthermore, this recording medium may also be a transmissible medium such as an electrical or optical signal, such a signal being able to be conveyed via an electrical or optical cable, by conventional or hertzian radio or by self-directed laser beam or by other means. The computer program according to the present invention may in particular be downloaded from an Internet-type network.
[0028] Alternatively, the recording medium may be an integrated circuit in which the computer program is incorporated, the integrated circuit being adapted to perform or to be used in performing the method in question. Brief description of the figures

[0034] A method and a device for controlling an on-board system of a vehicle will now be described in the following with joint reference to FIGS. 1 to 4. The same elements are identified with the same reference signs throughout the description which follows.
[0035] The terms "first(s)", "second(s)" (or "first(s)", "second(s)"), etc. are used in this document by arbitrary convention to enable different elements (such as operations, means, etc.) implemented in the embodiments described below to be identified and distinguished. Such elements may be distinct or correspond to a single element, depending on the embodiment.
[0036] According to a particular and non-limiting example of embodiment of the present invention, the method for controlling an on-board system of a vehicle comprising a steering wheel, a circumference of which defines two main directions, a set of sensors being spatially distributed along a plurality of segments of the circumference. The method comprises receiving first data representative of a touch swipe, the touch swipe being performed from a first segment of the plurality to a second segment of the plurality, the first data being received from a portion of the set of sensors associated with the first and second segments. The method also comprises determining a command based on the first data and controlling the on-board system of the vehicle based on the command.
[0037] Such a method makes it possible to control an on-board system of the vehicle without having to let go of the steering wheel or take your eyes off the road.
[0038] The method also makes it possible to control an on-board system of the vehicle without having to use additional control buttons.
[0039] [Fig. 1] schematically illustrates a part of the passenger compartment of a vehicle 10, according to a particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0040] The vehicle 10 corresponds for example to a vehicle with a thermal engine, with electric motor(s) or even a hybrid vehicle with a thermal engine and one or more electric motors. The vehicle 10 thus corresponds for example to a land vehicle comprising a passenger compartment or a cockpit, for example an automobile, a truck, a bus.
[0041] According to this example, the driver of the vehicle is installed in a seat 15, called the driver's seat. The driving position is on the left or right of the vehicle, depending on the regulations applicable in each country. According to the particular and non-limiting example of [Fig.l], the driving position of the vehicle 10 corresponds to a position on the left corresponding to countries where vehicles travel on the right-hand lane of roads.
[0042] The vehicle 10 advantageously incorporates in its passenger compartment 10 a display system comprising a screen 14 and a computer configured to control the display of content(s) of a graphical MMI on the screen 14. The computer corresponds for example to the computer of an infotainment system, called IVI computer (from the English “In-Vehicle Infotainment” or in French “Infodivertissement embargo”) of the vehicle.
[0043] The screen 14 is for example touch-sensitive and corresponds for example to a screen of the LCD type (from the English “Liquid Crystal Display” or in French “Display à cristals liquide”), for example of the TFT type (from the English “Thin-Film Transistor” or in French “Transistor en film mince”), or OLED type (from the English “Organic Light-Emitting Diode” or in French “Diode électroluminescente biologique”). The screen 14 is for example arranged in the center of the dashboard 13, for example above a central facade. Of course, the position of the screen 14 is not limited to this example, the screen 14 being able to be arranged in any position, for example on the central facade or behind the steering wheel 11.
[0044] The screen 14 makes it possible to display content intended for the driver and passengers of the vehicle. The screen 14 is also configured to allow the driver and / or passengers of the vehicle to interact with one or more systems embedded in the vehicle via a human machine interface (HMI) displayed on the screen 14. For example, the screen 14 makes it possible to control the infotainment system, also called IVI system, of the vehicle 10, as well as for example a driving assistance system, called AD AS system, of the vehicle 10.
[0045] According to another example, not illustrated here, the screen 14 is not integrated into the passenger compartment but corresponds to a screen of a mobile communication device, such as a smartphone or a tablet, connected in communication, for example wirelessly, with the on-board system of the vehicle 10.
[0046] The IVI system also interacts, for example, with loudspeakers 16 located in the doors of the vehicle 10.
[0047] According to a particular exemplary embodiment, the vehicle 10 has one or more on-board systems each controlled by one or more computers. These computers, with the IVI computer, form for example a multiplexed architecture for the realization of different services useful for the proper functioning of the vehicle 10 and for assisting the driver and / or the passengers of the vehicle 10 in the control of the vehicle 10 via the control of the system(s) on board the vehicle 10.The computers communicate and exchange data with each other via one or more computer buses, for example a communication bus of the data bus type CAN (from the English "Controller Area Network" or in French "Réseau de contrôles"), CAN FD (from the English "Controller Area Network Flexible Data-Rate" or in French "Réseau de contrôles à débit de données flexible"), FlexRay (according to the ISO 17458 standard), LIN (from the English "Local Interconnect Network" or in French "Réseau interconnecté local") or Ethernet (according to the ISO / IEC 802-3 standard).
[0048] [Fig.2] illustrates a steering wheel of the vehicle of [Fig.1], according to a particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0049] The steering wheel 11 of the vehicle 10 comprises a perimeter 12 defining two main directions, a first main direction x and a second main direction y.
[0050] The periphery 12 defines for example a rectangular shape, a first main direction x is then defined by that of a first side of the rectangle, a second main direction y is defined by that of a second side of the rectangle, the second side of the rectangle being a side adjacent to the first side of the rectangle. The two main directions x, y are then orthogonal.
[0051] This rectangular-shaped circumference 12 comprises, according to the embodiment illustrated in [Fig.2], rounded corners. In this example, each of the rounded corners is defined with the same radius.
[0052] According to other exemplary embodiments, the steering wheel 11 of the vehicle 10 comprises a circumference 12 describing one of the following shapes: - a rectangle, with or without rounded corners, - a square, with or without rounded corners, - a "squircle", which is a mathematical form intermediate between a square and a circle (from the English "square" and "circle", in French "carré" and "rond").
[0053] This contour is divided into a plurality of segments, s1, s2, s3, s4, s5, s6, s7, s8, s9, s10, s11, s12, s13, s14. The number of segments is for example 4, 6, 8 or 14 segments.
[0054] The segments have for example a length between 1 and 10 cm. For example for a steering wheel 11 of rectangular shape, segments following the first main direction x have a length of 5 cm while segments following the second main direction y have a length of 3 cm.
[0055] According to a particular exemplary embodiment, sensors cover all or part of the segments of the perimeter 12. Such sensors are for example used to verify that the driver of the vehicle 10 is touching the steering wheel, this function being called hands-on-wheel detection (HOD) (from the English “Hands On Wheel Detection”).
[0056] A set of sensors is for example distributed spatially along the segments of the perimeter 12. For example, a single sensor covers each of the segments of the perimeter 12, the set of sensors then completely covering the perimeter 12. The number of sensors is then equal to the number of segments, the sensors form a continuous chain running along the perimeter 12. Thus, at any point of the perimeter 12 of the steering wheel 11 there is a sensor.
[0057] The set of segments is for example distributed symmetrically with respect to a plane P, the plane P being parallel to one of the two main directions x,y. For example, the plane P represents a plane of symmetry of the steering wheel 11 and is parallel to the second main axis y. The set of sensors is then distributed symmetrically with respect to the plane of symmetry P parallel to one of the two main directions x,y, in this example the second main axis y.
[0058] A sensor of the set of sensors is for example a capacitive sensor or a pressure sensor.
[0059] These sensors make it possible to determine the position of a part of a hand, for example a finger, of the driver of the vehicle 10 on the steering wheel 11. For example, when a finger of the driver is in contact with a segment, for example the segment s7, then the sensor associated with the segment s7 emits a signal representative of a tactile press. Conversely, if the sensor associated with the segment s7 is not in contact with a part of a hand of the driver, then this sensor does not emit a signal.
[0060] A computer, for example the IVI computer, is then able to determine whether the segment s7 is in contact with a part of a hand of the driver of the vehicle 10. Similarly, this computer is able to determine all of the active sensors, that is to say all of the segments of the perimeter 12 in contact with a part of a hand of the driver of the vehicle 10.
[0061] In the example illustrated by [Fig.2], the sensors are distributed in a precise order and are adjacent two by two. This sequence of sensors is as follows: - if s2 and s3 form the left part of the perimeter 12, their respective abscissas along the first principal direction x are identical and their respective ordinates along the second principal direction y are decreasing, - s4 and s5 form the lower part of the perimeter 12, their respective abscissas are increasing and their respective ordinates are identical, - s6, s7 and s8 form the right part of the perimeter 12, their respective abscissas are identical and their respective ordinates are increasing, - s9 forms the upper right corner of the perimeter 12, - slO, sll, sl2 and sl3 form the upper part of the perimeter 12, their respective abscissas are decreasing and their respective ordinates are identical, - s 14 forms the upper left corner of the perimeter 12, closing the perimeter 12 with the segment si.
[0062] When the driver of the vehicle 10 moves a portion of the circumference 12 of the steering wheel 11 with a portion of his hand, he then activates in turn the sensors located on this portion of the circumference 12. For example, if a finger of the driver of the vehicle 10 moves up the right portion of the steering wheel 11, then the sensors s6, s7, and s8 will be activated then deactivated in turn, the duration of activation of a sensor equal to the duration of contact between the finger and the segment associated with the sensor. The passage of the finger from a first segment to a second segment, the second segment being adjacent to the first segment, is called tactile sliding.
[0063] In a first operation, first data representative of a touch swipe is received, the touch swipe being performed from a first segment of the plurality of segments to a second segment of the plurality of segments.
[0064] The first data is received from a portion of the set of sensors associated with the first and second segments.
[0065] A tactile slide is for example characterized when a first sensor associated with the first segment changes from an active state to an inactive state and a second sensor associated with the second segment, adjacent to the first segment, changes from an inactive state to an active state, all within a time period less than a first determined threshold. The first threshold is for example equal to 0.5 seconds or 1 second.
[0066] According to a second example, a tactile slide is characterized when a first sensor associated with the first segment changes from an active state to an inactive state and a second sensor associated with the second segment, adjacent to the first segment, changes from an inactive state to an active state, the two sensors being simultaneously active for a time period between a second and a third determined threshold, for example a time period between 0.1 seconds and 0.5 seconds. This time period of simultaneous activation corresponds to the duration during which a part of a hand of the driver of the vehicle 10 is in contact with the first and second segments, the part of the hand having a contact surface with the steering wheel 11 of a non-zero width.
[0067] The first data comprises, for example, an identification of the first and second sensors.
[0068] In a second operation, a command is determined based on the first data.
[0069] A command table is for example recorded in a memory of a device of the vehicle 10 accessible from the IVI computer. This command table defines a list of commands associated with a pair of first and second segments.
[0070] Pairs of first and second segments are, according to a particular embodiment, grouped in the same family. The same command can for example be associated with several pairs of the same family. For example, if the segments s10 and si1 are arranged in the same direction and the same sense and are located on the same part of the periphery 12 as the segments s12 and s13, for example along the first main direction x and on the same upper part of the periphery 12, then a command associated with a tactile sliding from s10 to si1 is identical to a command associated with a tactile sliding from s12 to s13. Similarly, if the segments s7 and s8 are arranged along the same second main direction y as the segments s2 and si and in the same sense, then a command associated with a tactile sliding from s7 to s8 is identical to a command associated with a tactile sliding from s2 to si.
[0071] In a third operation, the on-board system of the vehicle 10 is controlled according to the command.
[0072] According to a first example, an order or a signal is sent to a computer or to an actuator of the on-board system of the vehicle 10 according to the previously determined command, for example via a communication bus.
[0073] According to a second example, the on-board system of the vehicle 10 is an HMI controlling the display of a determined content on the screen 14. The commands are for example commands for scrolling through menus or commands for moving through graphic content displayed on the screen 14.
[0074] According to this second example, the command corresponds to scrolling in a menu. Two scrolling directions are for example defined, a first scrolling direction corresponds to scrolling from bottom to top and vice versa, from top to bottom. A second scrolling direction corresponds to scrolling from left to right and vice versa, from right to left.
[0075] Families of segments are for example associated with each of the first and second scrolling directions, for example as a function of the arrangement of the segments on the periphery 12 and as a function of the first and second main directions.
[0076] A tactile slide on the upper part of the contour, from segment s 13 to segment s 12, i.e. in the positive direction along the first main direction x, represents for example a scrolling from left to right in a menu of the HMI. The same applies to a tactile slide from segment si 1 to segment s 10 for example.
[0077] Conversely, a tactile slide on the upper part of the contour, from segment sl2 towards the segment s 13, i.e. in the negative direction following the first main direction x, represents for example a scroll from right to left in a menu of the HMI. The same is true for a tactile slide from the segment s10 to the segment s 11 for example.
[0078] In the same way, a tactile slide on the right part of the contour, from segment s6 to segment s7, i.e. in the positive direction along the second main direction y, represents for example a scrolling from bottom to top in a menu of the HMI. The same is true for a tactile slide from segment s7 to segment s8 for example.
[0079] According to a particular embodiment, in a fourth operation, second data representative of two touch presses on at least a third sensor of the set of sensors are received.
[0080] Two touch presses are for example characterized when a first sensor associated with a third segment passes consecutively from an inactive state to an active state then from an active state to an inactive state and a second sensor associated with a fourth segment passes consecutively from an inactive state to an active state then from an active state to an inactive state. The fourth segment is for example identical to the third segment. The consecutive passage from an inactive state to an active state then from an active state to an inactive state for a sensor is for example carried out over a time period less than a fourth threshold, the fourth threshold being for example equal to the first threshold. The set of two touch presses is for its part carried out over a time period less than a fifth threshold, the fifth threshold being for example equal to 1 or 2 seconds.
[0081] The command is further determined based on the second data. According to the second exemplary embodiment, two touch presses correspond, for example, to a validation. When scrolling through a menu of an HMI, two touch presses allow, for example, validation of a selected menu or option.
[0082] The various gestures made on the steering wheel 11 of the vehicle 10, a tactile slide or two tactile presses, then allow the driver of the vehicle 10 to control an on-board system of the vehicle 10.
