Description

Title of the invention: Recessed housing system with electrical module. Technical field.

[0001] The invention relates to a flush-mounted housing system with an electrical module and its mounting method.

[0002] The invention relates to the technical field of electrical connection systems formed of a flush-mounted box and an electrical module (socket or switch) and relates more particularly to the coupling devices of these elements. State of the art.

[0003] Referring to [Fig.l], in a conventional manner, a socket (electrical, RJ45, USB, ...) or a switch IA, IB (hereinafter "electrical module") is a wall-mounted device which is mounted in a box 2A, 2B embedded in a housing 30A, 30B drilled in a partition or a wall 3. The modulelA, IB is generally held in position on the box 2A, 2B by means of fixing screws (not shown). A cover (not shown) may also be provided to hide the fixing screws and to best adapt to the color of the partition or wall 3 or to the general decoration.

[0004] The box 2A, 2B is commonly called a flush-mounted box, flush-mounted box or equipment box. It is used to protect the connection between the wires of an electrical network and the module IA, IB. It also ensures the mechanical fixing of the module IA, IB to the partition or wall 3. It generally has a cavity 20A, 20B delimited by an internal wall and a bottom wall. The depth of the cavity generally varies from 30 mm to 60 mm. A depth of 40 mm is the most common model, suitable for standard sockets and switches. Its diameter can vary from 60 mm to 85 mm, with standard models having a diameter of 67 mm. It is therefore understood that the volume of the cavity 20A, 20B is relatively small.

[0005] Each box 2A, 2B receives different electrical wires via holes provided at the rear or on the sides of said box. In [Fig.2], a first box 2A receives three 200A electrical wires intended to be connected to a 10A electrical connection terminal block of a first socket IA. The three 200A wires are typically the phase, the neutral and the earth. In practice, from two to five wires can be envisaged depending on the nature of the module IA, IB. The 200A wires can be single-strand (rigid) or multi-strand (flexible).

[0006] These 200A wires take up a large part of the 20A cavity so that the positioning and fixing of the IA socket on the 2A housing are generally difficult and / or awkward steps.

[0007] The installation of [Fig.2] is a standard installation which further comprises a second IB socket mounted in series with the first IA socket. Other 200B wires then connect the 10A terminal block of the first IA socket to the 10B terminal block of the second IB socket. These 200B wires pass back through the first 2A box, so there are generally six wires cluttering up the 20A cavity, making the steps of positioning and fixing the IA socket on said box even more difficult.

[0008] In addition, to change an IA socket, it is necessary to: 1) first cut off the power to avoid any risk of electrocution; 2) remove the cover; 3) remove the fixing screws to separate the IA socket from the 2A box; 4) disconnect the 200A, 200B wires from the 10A terminal block; 5) reconnect the 200A, 200B wires to the terminal block of the new socket (without making a mistake in the position of the earth, neutral and phase); 6) replace the 200A, 200B wires as best you can in the 20A cavity; 7) screw the fixing screws back in to secure the new socket to the 2A box; 8) replace the cover; 9) restore the power.

[0009] These various steps are tedious, costly in terms of time and labor. In addition, due to the electrical risks involved and the electrical safety rules / standards to be respected, they must usually be carried out by a qualified electrician.

[0010] In addition, electrical safety rules / standards recommend or require that sockets, switches and other electrical modules be protected against dust and water inside the boxes, which could be detrimental to user safety. The level of protection is usually defined in France by an IP rating (IP). Currently, the IP level against the introduction of solid bodies ranges from IP0 (no protection) to IP6 (totally protected against dust). For liquid bodies, the level ranges from IP0 (no protection) to IP9 (protected against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets). The technical solutions currently used to achieve high IP levels are generally complex, so the products are relatively expensive. For the sake of economy, it is therefore common to purchase and install cheap sockets or switches with low IP levels. In this case, some installers fill the cavities of the flush-mounted boxes with expanding foam. However, this solution does not meet the requirements of the standards in force.

[0011] The invention aims to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks. In particular, one objective of the invention is to simplify the assembly (in particular the positioning and fixing) and disassembly of an electrical module in a built-in housing.

[0012] Another objective of the invention is to simplify the connection of the module to the electrical network.

[0013] Yet another object of the invention is to provide a flush-mounted box system with an electrical module that can be installed and changed by a user. ordinary, who is not a qualified electrician.

[0014] An additional objective of the invention is to propose a solution that complies with electrical safety rules / standards, and makes it possible to very simply achieve a high level of IP, whether against the introduction of solid bodies or liquid bodies. Presentation of the invention.

[0015] After numerous tests and attempts, the applicant has developed a flush-mounted box system with an electrical module enabling it to achieve the aforementioned objectives.

[0016] The solution proposed by the invention is a flush-mounted box system with an electrical module, said system comprising: - a built-in box comprising a cylindrical cavity delimited by an internal wall and having an axis of symmetry, - an electrical module consisting of a socket or a switch, and in which: - the housing comprises an electrical connection terminal block arranged at the rear of said housing, outside the cavity, first electrical connectors being arranged in said cavity, on the internal wall, and connected to said terminal block - the module is configured to engage in the housing by an axial then rotary movement until reaching a locking position, - the module comprises second electrical connectors complementary to the first connectors, the first connectors and the second connectors being configured to, in the locking position, engage each other so as to establish electrical contact and form a locking device locking said module in position, - a seal is arranged between the module and the housing so that in the locking position, said seal is compressed and forms a seal for the cavity.

[0017] The electrical wires are now connected to the terminal block located at the rear of the flush-mounted box so that they no longer clutter the cavity.

[0018] Furthermore, thanks to the rotary lock, it is sufficient to simply engage the module in the housing and rotate it (for example by a quarter turn) to assemble it functionally, that is to say so that it is electrically connected to the electrical network and in working order. The disassembly of the module is also done simply by a reverse operation. Thus, only the connection of the housing to the electrical network and its installation in a wall or partition still possibly require the intervention of a qualified electrician, although the connection of the electrical wires to the terminal block is very simple. The installation of the module and its change can be done easily, in complete safety, by an ordinary end user.

[0019] Furthermore, the sealing of the housing cavity induced by the compression of the seal makes it possible to very simply achieve a high level of IP, whether against the introduction of solid bodies or liquid bodies.

[0020] All these advantages are obtained in particular thanks to the first and second electrical connectors, which ultimately have a triple function: i) ensuring that the module is held in position - locked - in the housing, ii) establishing the connection of the module to the electrical network, iii) maintaining the compression of the seal to ensure sealing.

[0021] Other advantageous characteristics of the invention are listed below. Each of these characteristics can be considered alone or in combination with the remarkable characteristics defined above. Each of these characteristics contributes, where appropriate, to the resolution of specific technical problems defined further in the description and in which the remarkable characteristics defined above do not necessarily participate. The latter may be the subject, where appropriate, of one or more divisional patent applications:

[0030] According to one embodiment, the connection between the second connectors and contacts of the module is made by conductive tracks integrated into the body of said module.

[0031] According to one embodiment, the first connectors are housed in engagement channels arranged on the circumference of the internal wall of the cavity, each second connector engaging in a respective channel from an opening made from a front transverse edge of the housing.

[0032] Another aspect of the invention relates to a method of mounting a system according to one of the preceding characteristics, comprising the following successive steps: - preparing a housing for the box in a wall or partition; - connect wires from a network to the terminal block of the box; - fit the box into its housing and hold it in position; - insert the module into the housing cavity and rotate it in the first direction until it reaches the locking position.

[0033] The module change is advantageously carried out according to the following successive steps: - rotate the module to be changed in the opposite direction to the first direction to unlock it and remove it from the housing; - insert a new module into the housing cavity and rotate it in the first direction until it reaches the locking position. [0051] As used herein, unless otherwise indicated, the possible use of the ordinal adjectives "first", "second", etc., to describe an object simply indicates that different occurrences of similar objects are mentioned and does not imply that the objects so described must be in a given sequence, whether in time, space, ordering or in any other way. "X and / or Y" means: X alone or Y alone or X+Y. Generally speaking, it will be appreciated that in the various accompanying drawings, the objects are arbitrarily drawn to facilitate their reading.

[0052] The system which is the subject of the invention is used to fix an electrical module in a flush-mounted box. The electrical module is a socket (single or multiple electrical socket and / or RJ45 socket and / or USB socket, telephone socket, etc.) or a switch (single or multiple, button, lever, key, touch, etc.).

[0053] The housing is adapted to be embedded in a housing specifically fitted into a partition or wall. Once installed, the housing is completely inserted into this housing. In other words, the housing does not protrude from the partition or wall once it is embedded. According to one embodiment, the housing comprises a front frame surrounding it, only this frame protruding from the partition or wall.

[0054] In Figures 3A, 3B and 3C, the housing 2 has a generally cylindrical shape. It has a cylindrical chamber or cavity 20 delimited by an internal wall 201. The cavity 20 has an open face which constitutes the front face of the housing 2. According to a preferred embodiment, the cavity 20 is also delimited by a bottom wall 202 closing the rear face of said cavity. This configuration makes it possible to improve the IP level, the bottom wall 202 preventing in particular the introduction of solid bodies from the rear face of the housing 2. The bottom wall 202 can be rigid or flexible (for example in the form of a membrane). According to another embodiment, the rear face of the housing 2 is open and without a bottom wall.

[0055] The diameter of the cavity 20 is preferably standard, that is to say varying from 60 mm to 85 mm, advantageously 67 mm. The diameter may however be smaller, for example between 20 mm and 50 mm. According to one embodiment, the depth of the cavity 20 varies from 10 mm to 30 mm, which is less than the diameter of the standard housings of the prior art. These dimensions (diameter depth) correspond substantially to those of the housing 2, considering the thickness of the walls (a few millimeters) as negligible. It is therefore understood that the housing 2 according to the invention is, or perhaps, much more compact than the standard housings of the prior art, and therefore less bulky, and requiring less material and, in fact, less expensive.

[0056] For safety reasons and to reduce any risk of electrocution, the housing 2 is preferably made of an electrically insulating, non-conductive material, for example plastic or ceramic. It is preferably obtained by molding.

[0057] The housing 2 may have one or more holes 210 for the insertion of screws for fixing said housing in its housing. According to one embodiment, these holes are made in a front frame 21 surrounding the housing 2 or in mounting tabs provided for this purpose. Alternatively or additionally, the housing 2 may comprise lateral hooking or clamping claws 22 adapted to engage in the housing and hold said housing in position.

[0058] An electrical connection terminal block 23 is arranged at the rear of the housing 2, outside the cavity 20. This terminal block 23 comprises terminals 230 configured to receive electrical wires 200 connected to the network. These terminals 230 are for example screw or clamp terminals. The wires 200 may in particular be the phase, neutral and earth wires of a conventional current line of a building electrical installation. They may also be the wires of an RJ45, USB, telephone or other socket. In practice, the number of terminals 230 may vary from 2 to 10. The terminals 230 are configured to each receive one or more wires, for example single-strand (rigid) or multi-strand (flexible), in particular for series or parallel mounting of several modules.

[0059] In Figures 3A to 3C, the terminal block 23 is arranged at the level of the bottom wall 202, outside the cavity 20. Thus, when the housing 2 is recessed, the terminal block 23 is not accessible, thereby limiting the risks of electrocution. In addition, no wire 200 comes to clutter the cavity 20.

[0060] The housing 2 also comprises first electrical connectors 240 arranged in the cavity 20, on the internal wall 201. These first connectors 240 are connected to the terminal block 23, and more particularly to the terminals 230. In other words, each first connector 240 is connected to a terminal 230 so that when the wires 200 are connected to the terminal block 23, each said connector is electrically coupled to a terminal. The number of first connectors 240 depends on the number of terminals 230 provided on the terminal block 23 and vice versa.

[0061] According to a preferred embodiment, the connection between the first connectors 240 and the terminals 230 of the terminal block 23 is made by conductive tracks 2400 integrated into the body of the housing 2, in particular during the molding thereof. These conductive tracks 2400 can also be arranged on the external walls of the housing 2. Preferably, the conductive tracks 2400 are not accessible from the cavity 20, so as to limit the risks of electrocution.

[0062] In Figures 3A to 3C, the first connectors 240 protrude from the inner wall 201, towards the inside of the cavity 20. They are arranged concentrically around the axis XX of the cavity 20 (i.e. the axis of revolution) or in a spiral, with an angular offset. More generally, they are offset by an angle of between 10° and 120°. They are arranged substantially in the middle of the inner wall 201.

[0063] According to one embodiment, the first connectors 240 are in the form of blades made of a conductive material, for example metal. They may have a length of between 2 mm and 10 mm and a thickness of between 1 mm and 5 mm.

[0064] In an alternative embodiment, the blades 240 are made of a non-conductive insulating material, for example plastic, only the face facing the internal wall 201 being provided with a conductive track or contact zone. This solution makes it more difficult to access the conductive tracks of the blades 240 from the cavity 20, so as to limit the risks of electrocution. These risks are further limited when the distance separating the blades 240 from the internal wall 201 is small enough not to allow the passage of a finger, in particular a distance of between 2 mm and 5 mm.

[0065] According to one embodiment, the first connectors 240 have a certain flexibility allowing them to deform elastically as explained further in the description. According to one embodiment, the first connectors 240 extend parallel to a tangent of the internal wall 201. They advantageously have a hollow or concave portion 2401.

[0066] Other electrical connection elements may be installed in the cavity 20, in particular for the wiring of a back-and-forth shuttle 250 in the case where the module 1 is a switch.

[0067] 4A, 4B and 4C and the following description refer, by way of illustrative example only, to a module 1 in the form of a conventional electrical outlet. The following characteristics may, however, apply to other modules covered by the present invention.

[0068] For safety reasons and to reduce any risk of electrocution, the socket 1 is preferably made of an electrically insulating, non-conductive material, for example plastic or ceramic.

[0069] The socket 1 has, at its front face, holes or female parts 10 (neutral, phase and earth) forming contacts and configured to receive the pins of a male plug 5 ([Fig.5C]). The socket 1 may however have one or more pins or male parts in the case where the plug 5 has one or more female parts. Generally, the contacts 10 of the socket 1 are adapted to the configuration of the plug 5 which it receives by destination.

[0070] The socket 1 advantageously comprises a front frame 11 allowing for perfect decoration. This frame 11 is equivalent to a conventional socket cover. However, thanks to the invention, this frame 11 is an integral part of the socket 1 and advantageously forms a single piece with it.

[0071] The socket 1 comprises second electrical connectors 140 complementary to the first connectors 240 of the housing 2. These second connectors 140 are electrically connected to the contacts 10 of the socket 1. More particularly, each second connector 140 is connected to a contact 10. The connection between the second connectors 140 and the contacts 10 is advantageously made by conductive tracks 1400 integrated in, or arranged on, the body of the socket 1, in particular during the molding thereof. Preferably, the conductive tracks 1400 are not accessible when the socket 1 is functionally assembled in the housing 2.

[0072] In Figures 4A to 4C, the second connectors 140 are arranged at the rear face of the socket 1. They are in an arrangement complementary to that of the first connectors 240, that is to say arranged concentrically or in a spiral, with an angular offset. More generally, they are offset by the same angle as the first connectors 240.

[0073] According to one embodiment, the second connectors 140 are in the form of blades made of a conductive material, for example metal. In an alternative embodiment, the blades 140 are made of a non-conductive insulating material, for example plastic, only the face intended to come into contact with the conductive zone of the first connectors 240 being conductive (i.e. the face which, in use, is turned towards the internal wall 201). The blades 140 preferably have a certain flexibility allowing them to deform elastically as explained further in the description. They may have a length of between 2 mm and 10 mm and a thickness of between 1 mm and 5 mm.

[0074] According to one embodiment, the blades 140 advantageously have a portion 1401 whose shape is complementary to the end 2401 of the blades 240 (for example of curved or convex shape). More generally, the portions 1401 and 2401 are in the form of male and female elements, configured to fit into each other. The portions 1401 and 2401 can also form the conductive tracks.

[0075] Referring to Figures 5A, 5B and 5C, the socket 1 engages in the housing 2 by an axial then rotary movement until it reaches a locking position. By "axial movement", it is meant that the socket 1 is manually inserted into the cavity 20, along the axis XX. This insertion is carried out by placing the socket 1 at an angle, as illustrated in [Fig.5A].

[0076] When the socket 1 (more particularly one of its walls) comes into abutment against the housing 2 (more particularly against one of its walls) and / or the wall or partition 3, said socket 1 is then manually pivoted around the axis XX, for example in a clockwise direction or in the opposite direction, this pivoting corresponding to the “rotary movement”.

[0077] In the case where the connectors 140, 240 are arranged or spiral, the rotary movement is accompanied by an axial movement along the axis XX.

[0078] When the socket 1 reaches its normal position of use ([Fig.5B]), for example after a quarter turn, the first connectors 240 and the second connectors 140 engage each other so as to establish an electrical contact. Referring to [Fig.5D], each connector 240, 140, comprises a conductive contact track or area, respectively 2402 and 1402, which tracks are arranged to ensure an electrical contact in the locking position. The contacts 10 are then electrically connected to the wires 200, so that the socket 1 is functional.

[0079] A second function of the connectors 240, 140 is to cooperate to form a locking device in position of the socket 1.

[0080] Referring to [Fig.5D], the portions 1401 and 2401 engage, in particular due to the flexibility of the first and / or second connectors 240, 140, so that the socket 1 is locked in position. Thanks to this mechanical connection, it is no longer possible to pivot the socket 1 around the axis XX, unless a sufficient rotational force (in the opposite direction to the rotary movement making it possible to reach the locking position) is applied to said socket. This sufficient rotational force can quite easily be of manual origin, without requiring any specific tools. The socket 1 is thus protected from untimely mechanical stresses likely to dislodge it, which makes the system particularly robust.

[0081] The system is assembled very simply, advantageously according to the following successive steps:

[0082] 1) Prepare the housing of the box 2 in the wall or partition, for example by means of of a hole saw.

[0083] 2) Preferably, cut off the power to avoid any risk of electrocution.

[0084] 3) Connect wires 200 to terminal block 23 of box 2.

[0085] 4) Fit the housing 2 into its housing and hold it in position (using screws and / or claws 22).

[0086] 5) Engage the socket 1 in the cavity 20 of the housing 2 and pivot it until it reaches the lock position.

[0087] 6) Turn the power back on. Socket 1 is then electrically connected to the network electrical and in working order.

[0088] The change of socket is done even more simply, advantageously according to the following successive steps:

[0089] 1') Preferably, cut off the power to avoid any risk of electrocution.

[0090] 2') Rotate the socket 1 in the opposite direction to step 5) above to unlock it rust and remove it from the housing 2.

[0091] 3') Engage the new socket in the cavity 20 and pivot it until it reaches the locking position.

[0092] 4') Turn the power back on. The new outlet is then functional.

[0093] Referring to Figures 4B, 4C and 5C, a seal 4 is provided between the socket 1 and the housing 2. The seal 4 is preferably an O-ring or a lobe seal, installed in a groove provided in a wall of the module 1 or the housing 2. In the attached figures, the groove is provided in a rear wall of the module 1. However, it can be provided on the front face of the housing 2.

[0094] In the locking position, the seal 4 is compressed and forms a seal for the cavity 20. This seal remains ensured by the fact that the connectors 240, 140 hold the module 1 in position in the locking position. This maintenance of the seal 4 in compression is a third function of the connectors 240, 140.

[0095] The cavity 20 is thus perfectly sealed so that at least an IP5 level (protection against dust and other microscopic residues), or even an IP6 level for protection against solid bodies, and at least an IP6 level (protection against strong jets of water), or even an IP9 level for protection against liquid bodies, are obtained very simply and at very low cost.

[0096] [Fig. 6] illustrates an alternative embodiment of the first connectors 240 and the second connectors 140, which connectors are in the locking position. The locking in position is here ensured by one or more magnets 2403 and 1403 carried by the connectors 240, 140 and having opposite polarities. The magnets 2403, 1403 are opposite each other in the locking position so that it is now a magnetic connection which prevents the socket 1 from pivoting around the axis XX, unless a sufficient rotational force (in the opposite direction to the rotary movement to reach the locking position) is applied to said socket. This sufficient rotational force can be of manual origin, without requiring any specific tools. One of the magnets 2403 or 1403 can be replaced by a metal element.

[0097] Figures 7A, 7B and 7C illustrate another alternative embodiment in which the first connectors 240 are housed in engagement channels 2011 arranged on the circumference of the internal wall 201 of the cavity 20. The first connectors 240 may be located at the bottom wall or the side walls of the channels 2011. The width and / or depth of the channels 2011 are such that the passage of a finger is impossible, so that the first connectors 240 are inaccessible from the cavity 20. The risks of electrocution are very low, or even harmful. For example, the width of the channels 2011 is between 2 mm and 5 mm and their depth is between 5 mm and 10 mm.

[0098] Each second connector 140 engages in a respective channel 2011 from an opening 20110 made from the front transverse edge of the housing 2. The engagement of the second connectors 140 in the channels 2011 is similar to that of a bayonet-type device: the second connectors 140 are presented opposite the openings 20110; the engagement is continued by a rotary movement of the module 1 around the axis XX so as to ensure the penetration of the second connectors 140 in the channels 2011 until contact is established with the first connectors 240.

[0099] The channels 2011 may be rectilinear or in the form of a portion of a helicoid so that the rotary movement of the module 1 is accompanied by an axial movement.

[0100] The first connectors 240 and the second connectors 140 are of the type described in the various preceding embodiments. The first connectors 240 remain arranged concentrically around the axis XX of the cavity 20.

[0101] The arrangement of the various elements and / or means and / or steps of the invention, in the embodiments described above, should not be understood as requiring such an arrangement in all implementations. Various variants may be provided.

[0102] Furthermore, one or more features and / or steps disclosed only in one embodiment may be generalized to other embodiments. Similarly, one or more features and / or steps disclosed only in one embodiment may be combined with one or more other features and / or steps disclosed only in another embodiment.

[0103] In the claims, any reference sign in parentheses cannot be interpreted as a limitation of the claim.
