[0008] According to various aspects of the present disclosure, a cosmetic composition is capable of supplying oxygen to skin tissue. Supplying oxygen to skin tissue can be useful in many different applications. For example, the composition can be used as an anti-aging composition, a firming composition, an anti-wrinkle composition, an anti-pigment spot composition, a skin barrier and repair treatment, a skin hydrating composition, an anti-pollution and detoxifying composition, a topical skin protective and lightening preparation containing mineral and organic UV filters, active agents for tanning preparation actions or soothing agents for after-sun treatments or potentially a combination thereof. The cosmetic composition is a topical formulation: an O / W emulsion, an emulsion W / O, micro-emulsions or multiple emulsions such as a cream, a lotion, a gel, a serum, a spray, a mask, a cleanser, a micellar water, a self-tanning product, an oil (single phase or multi-phase), a sunscreen product, all being classic facial, body care and color treatments.

[0009] The cosmetic composition comprises spirulina platensis, which is a cyanobacterium biomass. Spirulina platensis may be present in the form of an aqueous extract. In addition to spirulina, the extract may comprise glycerin. The spirulina platensis extract comprises an active ingredient which ultimately provides oxygen. This active ingredient would be phycocyanin, which is a protein belonging to the phycobili-protein family present in particular in algae. Phycocyanin can be isolated and purified from species, such as Aphanizomenonflo saqua, Arthrospiraplatentis, Spirulinafusiformis, Phormidium sp., Lyngbya sp., Synechosystis sp. and Synechococcus sp., is a protein complex of the light-harvesting family, along with phycoerythrin. It is an auxiliary pigment of chlorophyll. Each subunit is typically composed of eight α-helices. Monomers aggregate spontaneously to form ring-shaped (α[3)3) trimers, which have rotational symmetry and a central channel. Trimers aggregate in pairs to form (α[3)6) hexamers, sometimes with the help of additional linker proteins. Each phycobilisome rod typically has two or more phycocyanin hexamers. Despite the overall similarity in structure and assembly of phycobiliproteins, there is a great diversity of hexameric and rod conformations, even when considering only phycocyanins.

[0010] Based on the total concentration of the cosmetic composition, the spirulina platensis extract may be in a range of about 0.00001 wt% to about 10 wt%; about 0.00005 wt% to about 8 wt%; about 0.00008 wt% to about 0.012 wt%; an amount less than, equal to, or greater than about 0.00001 wt%; 0.00005; 0.00010; 0.000050; 0.001; 0.005; 0.01; 0.02; 0.03; 0.04; 0.05; 0.06; 0.07; 0.08; 0.09; 0.1; 0.11; 0.12; 0.13; 0.14; 0.15; 0.16; 0.17; 0.18; 0.19; 0.2; 0.3; 0.4; 0.5; 1; 1.5; 2; 2.5; 3; 3.5; 4; 4.5; 5; 5.5; 6; 6.5; 7; 7.5; 8; 8.5; 9; 9.5; or about 10% by weight.

[0011] The carrier of the cosmetic composition may be a clay or a liposome. Examples of suitable clays may include bentonite, hectorite, stearalkonium hectorite and propylene carbonate, rhassoul clay, French green clay, Fuller's earth clay, yellow clay or a mixture thereof. Stearalkonium hectorite in combination with propylene carbonate is preferred.

[0012] Liposomes are considered to be the most commonly used nanocarriers for various potentially active hydrophobic and hydrophilic molecules due to their high biocompatibility, biodegradability, and low immunogenicity. Liposomes have also demonstrated the ability to enhance the solubility and regulated distribution of drugs, as well as their surface modification capability for targeted delivery in the skin, prolonged and sustained release. Based on this composition, liposomes can be considered to have evolved from conventional, long-circulating, targeted, and immune liposomes to stimuli-responsive and actively targeted liposomes. Many liposome-based drug delivery systems are currently clinically approved to treat several diseases, such as cancer, fungal, and viral infections; more liposomes have reached advanced stages in clinical trials.According to their structures, liposomes are classified into four categories based on the size and number of bilayers: small unilamellar vesicles (SUVs), large unilamellar vesicles (LUVs), multilamellar vesicles (MLVs), and multivesicular vesicles (MWs). Liposomes have a monophospholipid bilayer in a unilamellar structure, while they have an onion-like structure in a multilamellar structure. MWs form a multilamellar arrangement with concentric phospholipid spheres since many unilamellar vesicles are produced within larger liposomes. Vesicle size is an important factor that regulates the circulating half-life of liposomes. Both the size and the number of bilayers influence the amount of the encapsulated drug. The interaction of liposomes with the cell membrane is represented by various theories: specific (receptor-mediated) or nonspecific endocytosis, local fusion (adhesion), phagocytosis, and uptake into the cell membrane. Liposome-cell interactions are influenced by a variety of factors, including composition, liposome diameters, surface charge, targeting ligand on the liposome surface, and the biological environment.

[0035] The compositions among those listed in Table 1 and Table 2 were investigated in terms of oxygen loading capabilities. To carry out the oxygen loading, a VisionAire 5 oxygen concentrator from CAIRE Inc., US is used. With the oxygen concentrator, air is drawn into the device through its air inlets, where the air passes through a molecular sieve. The oxygen is separated from the nitrogen and only pure oxygen can exit the device. This results in a high concentration stream of pure (medical) quality. A specific connected tubing transports the pure oxygen to its destination in the carriers which are prepared as described below.

[0036] The air flow rate was 1 to 5 L / min. The chosen phycocyanin support system (composition from Table 1 or Table 2) is loaded into a beaker (covered with plastic film) with slow to medium speed stirring using a conventional Raynerie Turbotest (VMI, France) or IKA RW 20 Digital mixer. Mixer (IKA Werke, Germany). The newly produced O2 flows from the O2 concentrator through a special silicone tubing (Westmed, Inc., US) into the holder. The loading time and flow rate depend on the volumes to be loaded from 100 mL to 5 L. The protocol is optimized by choosing a loading time of 1 to 30 minutes with a flow rate of 1 to 5 L / min.

[0037] The results are shown below in Figures 1 and 2. [Fig.l] shows the partial O2 concentration in a liposomal carrier composition. The liposomal carrier composition is as shown in Table 1. The partial O2 concentration values are plotted on the ordinate and time is plotted on the abscissa. [Fig.2] shows the partial O2 concentration in a stearalkonium hectorite carrier composition. The stearalkonium hectorite carrier composition is as shown in Table 2. The partial O2 concentration values are plotted on the ordinate and time is plotted on the abscissa.

[0038] The amount of oxygen increase in cells treated with the compositions according to Table 1 and Table 2, respectively, was studied. The results are shown in [Fig. 3]. To generate the data, hypoxia states were induced in normal human fibroblasts using dimethyloxa-lylglycine treatment. Once hypoxia was generated, the cells were then incubated with the respective compositions. The intracellular oxygen content was quantified using the Winkler method. The Winkler method typically involves completely filling a sample vial with water (the absence of air ensures that the assay is not biased). The dissolved oxygen is then “fixed” using a series of reagents that form an acidic compound that is titrated. The titration involves the dropwise addition of a reagent that neutralizes the acidic compound and causes a color change in the solution. The point of color change is called the "end point" and is equivalent to the amount of dissolved oxygen in the sample. The sample is usually fixed and titrated on site at the sampling site. However, it is possible to prepare the sample on site and transport it to a laboratory for titration. The oxygen content was compared to untreated cells. Examples of aspects
