Description

Title of the invention: CONVERTIBLE CONTAINER Technical field of the invention

[0001] The present invention relates to a container-type dwelling, and more particularly to a convertible maritime container with a deployable structure that can be used to enlarge an interior space. Technological background

[0002] Shipping containers are now widely used in the transport of goods by ship. They are designed to be easily handled, stored and transported and their use offers various logistical advantages such as limiting the risk of damage, loss or theft, or reducing costs by improving productivity and loading. These containers correspond in terms of format to standardized formats according to current ISO standards. However, it has recently been noted that the number of empty containers remaining at the quayside in major commercial ports was higher than the number of containers used in the transport of goods. The relative stagnation of international trade and the global surplus of containers remaining at the quayside has led to a rethink of the use of the latter.

[0003] Indeed, faced with the growing demand for real estate, the recycling of shipping containers into residential premises is booming. In view of the various technical constraints likely to be involved in the construction of a house, and given the obstacles to access to property, containers thus constitute an increasingly plausible alternative regarding a choice of housing.

[0004] Large habitable volume constructions have already been proposed, made from several machined and interconnected containers. But this requires equipment and expertise, the final cost of which remains expensive.

[0005] Small-format modular and / or deployable structures are also known, but these structures are mostly prefabricated containers requiring a relatively long installation time and several people for assembly. These structures, although deployable, are not directly habitable after deployment and require numerous additional arrangements. Furthermore, they do not allow for housing with a large living area without combination with other prefabricated containers.

[0006] The invention therefore aims to overcome these various problems. Objectives of the invention

[0007] The invention aims to provide, in at least one embodiment, a container convertible with a standardized structure and easy to transport.

[0008] The invention also aims to provide, in at least one embodiment, a convertible container whose footprint can be increased at least by two or three.

[0009] The invention also aims to provide, in at least one embodiment, a ready-to-use and equipped convertible container, with rapid deployment and presenting all the necessary amenities of luxury housing.

[0010] The invention also aims to provide, in at least one embodiment, a convertible maritime container whose deployment is simplified. Statement of the invention

[0011] To this end, the invention relates to a convertible maritime container having a parallelepiped structure extending in a longitudinal direction and having an interior space, said container having two transverse side walls as well as two longitudinal side walls, at least one longitudinal side wall of which comprises at least one opening arranged over a portion of its length, said transverse and longitudinal walls being arranged respectively opposite one another and each connecting a ceiling and a floor, said floor delimiting a footprint area, called surface SI, said container being characterized in that it further comprises: - a plurality of slots arranged on at least one longitudinal side wall, said slots being shaped and configured to guide the sliding of deployable panels towards the outside of said container; - a set of deployable panels mounted to slide transversely through said plurality of slots between a first position, called the retracted position, in which said set of panels is contained inside said container, and a second position, called the deployed position, in which said set is deployed transversely towards the outside of said container so as to define at least one additional room adjacent to said container; - an extension block arranged coaxially inside the container, said container defining a housing for said extension block, said extension block being mounted to slide longitudinally at one end of said container, between a first position, called the retracted position, in which the mobile extension block is merged with the container, and a second position, called the deployed position, in which the block projects at one end of the container;

[0012] said container being convertible between a first configuration, called configuration retracted, in which the set of deployable panels and the mobile extension block are respectively in the retracted position and contained in the container, and a second configuration, called the deployed configuration, in which the set of deployable panels and / or the mobile extension block are deployed outside said container so as to delimit a footprint area S2 >S1.

[0013] By convertible maritime container, we mean a maritime container which has been machined and which has undergone the necessary modifications according to any one of the characteristics of the invention. The maritime container according to the invention will subsequently be referred to interchangeably as a container, maritime container, convertible container or even convertible maritime container.

[0014] By parallelepiped structure, it is meant that the structure of the container may be that of a straight block. More particularly, the structure of the container may be that of a forty-foot maritime container having the dimensions of the ISO standards relating to these containers.

[0015] The convertible container according to the invention extends in a longitudinal direction and thus comprises six walls, including four side walls and two walls forming a floor and a ceiling. The side walls comprise two longitudinal side walls, called longitudinal walls, and two transverse side walls, called transverse walls.

[0016] According to the invention, at least one of the longitudinal walls comprises at least one opening arranged over a portion of its length. Thus, this door allows communication towards an additional room which will be formed when the container is in the deployed configuration. In addition, the convertible container may be a maritime container may comprise an entrance door arranged on a transverse wall of said container. The container according to the invention may comprise an extension block longitudinally opposite said entrance door, said block extending over a longitudinal portion and being mounted to slide.

[0017] The container is a convertible container whose footprint surface SI corresponds to a surface delimited by the floor of said container when the latter is in the retracted configuration. The surface SI is therefore a surface capable of being increased to define a surface S2 when the container changes configuration between the retracted configuration and the deployed configuration, each of said configurations corresponding respectively to the standard state and to the final state of the container house according to the invention. It is thus understood that the surface S2 is greater than the surface SL

[0018] The footprint area of the container being that of a maritime container, the invention advantageously makes it possible to multiply the area SI when the convertible container is in the deployed configuration such that S2 > 2S1 or S2 > 3S1.

[0019] According to the invention, the convertible container comprises a plurality of slots arranged on at least one longitudinal side wall, preferably on each of the longitudinal walls. These slots can be arranged on the walls of the container by methods known to those skilled in the art and are designed to guide the sliding of deployable panels contained inside the container. The slots of the invention can be considered as outlet orifices for internal deployable panels. To another extent, the slots can also be used for the insertion of external extension panels, it can thus be provided that panels can be inserted into the slots and fixed by fixing means.

[0020] Furthermore, the invention may also provide a deployed configuration, in which a first set of internal deployable panels are deployed through the slots of a first longitudinal side wall to form a first additional room adjacent to the container, and a second set of external extension panels, which may be installed subsequent to the deployment of the first set of internal deployable panels.

[0021] Preferably, the invention provides two sets of internal deployable panels contained within said container and configured to deploy through each of the slots in the respective longitudinal side walls of the container according to the invention.

[0022] By internal deployable panels or deployable panels is meant panels contained within the container and being configured to be deployed by passing through the slots when transitioning from the retracted configuration to the deployed configuration of said container.

[0023] By extension panels or external panels is meant panels not contained inside the container, the latter being capable of being installed subsequently in the slots not used for the deployment of the deployable panels. For this purpose, the extension panels can be inserted into the slots and fixed by means known to those skilled in the art.

[0024] The container therefore comprises at least one set of deployable panels arranged and contained inside said container. More specifically, said panels are mounted to slide through the slots of at least one longitudinal side wall, which allows deployment in a transverse direction perpendicular to the direction of said container. The deployable panels are thus configured to exit through the slots of a longitudinal wall so as to form at least one additional part adjacent to the container. According to the invention, and for practical reasons of space requirement and occupation of the interior space of the container, the slots are shaped to the thickness of the panels, so that the transition from the retracted position to the deployed position of a set of panels only allows the exit of one panel per slot.

[0025] The invention further comprises an extension block arranged coaxially inside the container. This extension block is an extension piece that can be deployed by longitudinal sliding when moving from the retracted configuration to the deployed configuration of the container. The container thus defines a housing for the extension block whose dimensions are intended to be smaller than those of said container. In this way, the extension block can be embedded in said container. The extension block can comprise a cutout for the exit of an integrated sanitary block, this sanitary block can be deployed subsequently after the deployment of the extension block. The deployment of the sanitary block is done manually and coaxially with respect to the extension block.

[0026] The extension block according to the invention is mounted so as to slide longitudinally between a retracted position in which said block is entirely contained in the main container and merged with the latter. The extension block extends longitudinally inside the container over a longitudinal portion opposite the entrance to said container. Said block is mounted so as to slide between a retracted position in which the transverse wall of the block is merged with the transverse side wall of the container and a deployed position in which the extension block projects at the longitudinal end of said container. The extension block is thus deployed in the manner of a sliding drawer.

[0027] Mechanical guide means may be provided for this purpose, such as rails or slides adapted and provided with locking elements to define a sliding stroke. In addition, the extension block of the invention may comprise a cutout of substantially square shape on the transverse wall corresponding to the longitudinal end in which the extension block is mounted to slide. These cutouts make it possible to remove a compact sanitary block integrated into said extension block.

[0028] Thus and according to the invention, the plurality of slots comprises a pair of vertical slots, said vertical slots being longitudinally opposite one another, as well as a pair of horizontal slots, said horizontal slots being vertically opposite one another.

[0029] Advantageously and according to the invention, the maritime container benefits from at least four slots arranged on a longitudinal side wall.

[0030] Thus and according to the invention, the set of deployable panels comprises:

[0031] - at least one pair of horizontal panels extending longitudinally, said pair being contained inside the container, each horizontal panel being arranged parallel to each other and vertically opposite, with a first panel, called the lower panel, arranged in the floor, and a second panel, called the upper panel, arranged in the ceiling, each of the lower and upper panels being configured to slide outwardly of said container through the horizontal slots;

[0032] - at least one pair of vertical panels extending transversely, said pair being contained within the container, each vertical panel being arranged parallel to each other and longitudinally opposite, said vertical panels being configured to slide outwardly of said container through the vertical slots.

[0033] According to a variant of the invention, the upper horizontal panels are made of polycarbonate. Advantageously, this material makes it possible to obtain a lightweight panel, allowing light to pass through and which benefits from anti-UV treatment, while remaining easy to manufacture. The deployment of these panels is also facilitated.

[0034] Thus and according to the invention, the lower panel has a section mechanically connected to said lower panel by a pivot connection with a longitudinal axis.

[0035] Advantageously and according to the invention, said connection being configured to pivot a panel so as to close an additional part adjacent to said container. A second longitudinal side wall is thus formed to support an upper vertical panel. The panel is thus a foldable panel arranged superimposed on the lower panel.

[0036] According to the invention, the convertible maritime container further comprises an electrical installation and a reverse osmosis module and the mobile extension block comprises a sanitary block.

[0037] The sanitary block may include a bathroom and other amenities such as toilets.

[0038] Advantageously, the sanitary space is thus located in a deployable part in order to free up a maximum of space for the living areas.

[0039] Thus and according to the invention, the sanitary block of said mobile extension block is mounted to move in longitudinal sliding.

[0040] The convertible container can be defined as a housing housing at least one set of deployable panels. Said set of deployable panels comprises vertical panels extending transversely over at least a portion of the transverse side walls as well as horizontal panels extending longitudinally over at least a portion of the floor and the ceiling.

[0041] According to the invention, each additional room is an additional compartment annexed and adjacent to the main structure of the convertible container. An additional room is defined as a room comprising at least four walls formed by the movable extension block or by the deployment of at least one set of panels de- foldable.

[0042] Furthermore, the convertible container according to the invention comprises a kitchen, a bathroom, a toilet and at least one bedroom. The furniture is designed to optimize the available space while being adapted to move from the retracted configuration to the deployed configuration of the container.

[0043] Another advantage of the invention lies in the presence of the various connections for water and electricity. Indeed, the container includes all the necessary connections in order to be supplied with water and electricity after deployment.

[0044] Furthermore, the convertible container according to the invention may comprise solar panels arranged on the roof, as well as a rainwater tank.

[0045] According to the invention, the convertible maritime container comprises a kitchen panel arranged against the internal side of a longitudinal side wall of the main container. When the convertible container is in the deployed configuration, the kitchen panel thus abuts against a longitudinal side wall. This kitchen panel further comprises at least one opening to allow access to an additional room formed after deployment. This opening is shaped to the opening arranged over a portion of the length of the longitudinal side wall of the convertible container. The kitchen panel further comprises all the appropriate equipment so that the user can benefit from comfortable accommodation. The panel can also be made from a single piece via additive manufacturing or three-dimensional printing techniques known to those skilled in the art.

[0046] The kitchen panel is arranged like a traditional kitchen and includes storage, an opening for a hotplate, a worktop, a sink with two water outlets. In addition, a reverse osmosis filtration system can be provided. The kitchen panel also includes shelves, and a space designed to accommodate a freezer.

[0047] The convertible container may further include water filtration systems to allow a user to access filtered running water, or collected rainwater. These systems may be reverse osmosis filtration modules for example and may equip the water points of the convertible container.

[0048] The design of said convertible container allows for efficient water management. Indeed, rainwater can be collected using a gutter system arranged on the roof of the convertible container. The rainwater that can be collected is then directed to the filtration system before being used.

[0049] The convertible container can thus allow a reasoned and intelligent consumption of water by the presence of a water tank or rainwater collection with filtration for daily use and a means of recovering surplus water from the bathroom or the kitchen which can for example supply a garden nearby.

[0050] According to the invention, the maritime container further comprises a modular bed system equipped with a winch, said system being arranged on the ceiling of the convertible container as well as anchoring means arranged on a section of a lower horizontal panel.

[0051] Advantageously, the bed can be lowered to a suitable height and then fixed to the anchoring means to be stabilized and ready for use.

[0052] The convertible maritime container according to the invention thus makes it possible to benefit from modular, economical housing, with a large footprint while having easy deployment. It is therefore a container making it possible to benefit from fully equipped housing with intelligent water management. List of figures

[0054] Detailed description of an embodiment of the invention

[0055] In the figures, the scales and proportions are not strictly respected, for the purposes of illustration and clarity.

[0056] Throughout the detailed description which follows with reference to the figures, unless otherwise indicated, each element of the container according to the invention is described as it is arranged during its use.

[0057] Identical, similar or analogous elements are designated by the same references in all the figures.

[0058] In the embodiment presented, the deployment of the panels 30 can be applied mutatis mutandis to each of the longitudinal side walls 12 and 13 of the convertible maritime container according to the invention.

[0059] The convertible container comprises a convertible main container 1 whose parallelepiped structure has an interior space. The interior space is an internal space delimited by a set of six walls forming said parallelepiped structure. The container 1 extends in a longitudinal direction and therefore has two transverse side walls 10, 11 as well as two longitudinal side walls 12, 13. Each of the transverse walls 10, 11 and longitudinal walls 12, 13 respectively connect the ceiling 14 and the floor 15 of the container 1. The floor 15 defines a footprint area SL

[0060] At least one longitudinal wall 13 comprises at least one opening 13a arranged over at least a portion of its length so as to provide access to an additional part 40 formed during deployment of the container 1.

[0061] The container 1 also comprises a plurality of slots 20 arranged on at least one of the longitudinal side walls 12, 13. The container 1 also comprises at least one set of deployable panels 30 arranged inside the convertible container 1. Said panels 30 are mounted to slide between a retracted position and a deployed position.

[0062] The set of panels 30 is configured to perform a translational movement perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the container 1, the panels 30 thus perform a transverse movement when passing from the retracted position to the deployed position. The set of panels 30 is configured to slide through the slots 20 which thus serve as a guide during the deployment of the latter. The deployable panels 30 are contained inside the container 1 and thus slide towards the outside thereof in a direction perpendicular to the direction of said container 1. The deployment of a first set of panels 30 makes it possible to obtain at least one first additional part 40 adjacent to said convertible container 1.

[0063] In addition, the container 1 also comprises a movable extension block 50. The block 50 is mounted to slide inside the convertible container 1 which then defines a housing for said block 50. The block 50 is mounted so as to be able to slide towards the outside of the convertible container 1 in the longitudinal direction. The block 50 is a coaxial block arranged in at least one internal portion of the container 1 and translates between a retracted position, in which the block 50 is merged with the container 1 and arranged inside it, and a deployed position, in which said block 50 projects at a longitudinal end of the container 1.

[0064] The container 1 thus has two configurations, with a first configuration, called the retracted configuration, according to which at least one set of deployable panels 30 as well as the mobile extension block 50 are contained inside the container 1, and a second configuration, called the deployed configuration, according to which the set 30 and / or the block 50 are deployed outside said container 1.

[0065] The deployed configuration of the convertible container 1 is thus a configuration according to which the deployable panels 30 are in the deployed position and / or the mobile extension block 50 in the deployed position so as to obtain a footprint area S2 > SL

[0066] The invention therefore makes it possible to obtain a larger habitable surface area when the container 1 is in the deployed configuration.

[0067] [Fig. 1] represents an embodiment of the invention where the convertible container 1 is in a retracted configuration. In this embodiment, the transverse side wall 11 comprises an entrance door 11a which may be that of a maritime container. The container 1 has two openings 13a arranged on its longitudinal side wall 13. The container 1 comprises four slots 20 including two horizontal slots 20a and two vertical slots 20b. The plurality of slots 20 is arranged on the longitudinal wall 13 along the edges of the parallelepiped structure of the container 1 so that each slot 20a and 20b is respectively symmetrical and opposite one another.

[0068] [Fig.2A] shows the deployment of a set 30 of deployable panels towards the outside of the convertible container 1. In this embodiment, the set of panels 30 comprises a pair of horizontal panels 31 and a pair of vertical panels 32. The panels 30 are contained inside the container 1 when the latter is in a retracted configuration, and are mounted to slide so as to slide perpendicularly, relative to the longitudinal direction of the container 1, through the plurality of slots 20.

[0069] According to one embodiment, each vertical panel 32 is respectively arranged inside the container 1 on a transverse wall 11 or 10 when said container is in the retracted configuration or when the set 30 of deployable panels is in the retracted position. The vertical panels 32 are mounted to slide freely at through the vertical slots 20b.

[0070] Each horizontal panel 31 is respectively arranged inside the container 1 at the level of the ceiling 14 or the floor 15 when said container is in the retracted configuration or when the set 30 of deployable panels is in the retracted position. The horizontal panels 31 are mounted to slide through the slots 20a.

[0071] The transition from the retracted position to the deployed position of the set of deployable panels 30 thus corresponds to the formation of an additional room 40 adjacent to the convertible container 1, an opening 13a then allows access to the room 40 when a user is inside the main container.

[0072] [Fig.2B] represents the same embodiment as [Fig.2A], according to which the additional part 40 is closed by the pivot of the panel 31b so as to form a transverse wall parallel to the walls 13 and 12 of the convertible container 1.

[0073] [Fig. 3] reproduces the embodiment of [Fig. 2], and illustrates the deployed position of the extension block 50. The extension block 50 is similar to an additional part fully contained inside the main container 1 and is arranged coaxially with the latter. The extension block 50 is thus mounted to slide along the longitudinal axis of the container 1.

[0074] In the deployed position, the block 50 is located at least partly outside the container 1. This block is mounted to slide in a longitudinal end of the container 1, opposite the transverse wall 11 comprising a door 11a. In its retracted position, the block 50 is thus merged with the transverse wall 10 of the container 1.

[0075] According to this embodiment, the horizontal panels 31 comprise an upper horizontal panel 31c and a lower horizontal panel 31a. The panel 31a is mechanically connected to a longitudinal panel 31b via a pivot connection with a longitudinal axis 33. The arrangement between the panel 31a, the panel 31b and the pivot connection 33 thus allows the pivoting of the panel 31b so as to form a transverse wall parallel to those of the main container 1.

[0076] [Fig.4] schematically represents the potential footprint areas of the container according to the invention when the container 1 is in the deployed configuration. In the embodiment shown, the deployed configuration of the container 1 corresponds to a state of the container where at least one additional part 40a and / or 40b has been formed by the deployment of at least one set of panels 30 and / or by the deployment of the extension block 50 which also constitutes an additional part.

[0077] Furthermore, it may also be provided that the part 40a is formed by the deployment of the panels according to the embodiments presented in the preceding figures and that the additional part 40b is formed by complementary panels added subsequently to the deployment of the extension block 50 and the formation of the part 40a. Furthermore, each of the additional parts 40a and / or 40b may be formed according to the deployment of a set of panels 30 as provided in [Fig.2A], [Fig.2B], and [Fig.3].

[0078] The footprint surface S2 can thus be defined by the sum of the surface SI of the container and at least the footprint surface of a part 40a, 40b or 50. Thus, the footprint surface S2 of the container is that of the container in a deployed configuration in which S2 is greater than SI.

[0079] [Fig.5] illustrates a deployment kinetics of the horizontal panels 31c and 31a. According to one embodiment of the invention, the panels 31c and 31a are mounted to slide through respective horizontal slots 20a. According to this figure, the transition from the retracted position to the deployed position of the panels 31c and 31a is carried out first by a first step of sliding the lower horizontal panel 31a towards the outside of the container. The panel 31a further comprises the panel 31b superimposed and mechanically connected to the panel 31a via a pivot connection with a longitudinal axis 33. This figure represents a cross-section of the container 1 in which the upper panel 31c is arranged at the level of the ceiling 14 and the lower panel 31a is arranged at the level of the floor 15.

[0080] In a second step of the deployment shown, the section 31b of the panel 31a pivots through an angle of approximately 90° in order to support the deployment of the panel 31c during a final step. An additional part 40 is thus closed.

[0081] [Fig.6] illustrates an internal view of the container 1 when the latter is in the deployed configuration. The kitchen panel 100 is a facade abutting against the internal side of the longitudinal side wall 13 inside the container. The panel 100 has a dimension slightly smaller than the facade 13 so as to coincide with the slots 20a and 20b. Furthermore, the doors 101 are dimensioned and provided to be arranged opposite the openings 13a of the wall 13 of the container 1.

[0082] [Fig.7] illustrates a top view of the container 1 and shows the arrangement of the kitchen panel 100 inside the container.

[0083] [Fig.8] represents a forty-foot maritime container 200 usable for the manufacture of the convertible maritime container 1 according to an embodiment of the invention.
