Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Rule for calculating the effects of wind on an aircraft Technical field
[0001] The invention allows the calculations of drift and ground speed of an aircraft subjected to a given wind to be carried out without the need for a calculator, by simply reading a specifically graduated ruler, by entering absolute values concerning the heading and origin of the wind as well as the route to follow. Prior art
[0002] Bernard DELPOUVE's wind drift vector rule defined by patent FR2955947 seeks to solve the same problem but by a different technique involving the material representation of the wind and aircraft vectors by systems of rulers with angular movement. In its operation, the vector rule requires entering the relative angle between the heading and the origin of the wind. The successive reading of several headings for the same wind and the same air speed requires a complete reconfiguration of the rule. Technical problem
[0003] Considering the above, a problem which the present invention proposes to solve consists in improving the method of interaction with the calculation rule to allow faster route preparation, by fixing a wind origin and allowing rapid reading of the heading and ground speed relative to the route to be followed.
[0004] An invention thus improved makes it possible to meet the objectives of rapid flight preparation as may take place during the quarantine phases of competitions carried out under the aegis of the International Aeronautical Federation. Technical solution
[0005] The invention is presented in the form of a rule comprising one or two curves (depending on whether the model only allows the calculation of drift, ground speed, or both) as well as a system of several reading rulers allowing the route to be followed for the aircraft and the direction of the wind to be entered.
[0006] Ground speed curves allow you to read on a scale the value to add or subtract from the aircraft's own speed to determine its ground speed depending on the strength and direction of the wind. The differential reading is direct.
[0007] The drift curves make it possible to determine the heading compensation to be applied by the pilot depending on the strength and direction of the wind.
[0008] Several rule backgrounds are provided and chosen according to the aircraft's own speed in order to provide the greatest finesse and simplicity of calculation. Brief description of the drawings
[0009] [Fig.l] Representation of the rule as a whole with the frame (1), the rule background (2), and the reading reticle (3).
[0010] [Fig.2a] Rule background given for a speed of 90 km / h.
[0011] [Fig.2b] Rule background given for a speed of 180 km / h.
[0012] [Fig.3] Ruler frame comprising the graduations for the route to be followed and the origin of the wind, serving as a receptacle for the ruler base and as a guide for the reading reticle.
[0013] [Fig.4] Representation of the single reading reticle allowing the compensation value for heading and ground speed to be read regardless of the chosen ruler background.
