Description

Title of the invention: COMPOSITION FOR KERATINOUS FIBERS COMPRISING A BETAINE COMPOUND Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to a composition for keratinous fibers comprising at least one betaine compound, in particular a hair care composition comprising at least one betaine compound, as well as a cosmetic process using the composition. STATE OF THE ART

[0002] It is well known that the smoothing and softening effect of hair-related products is widely acclaimed by customers. It is also well known that a hair conditioner is recommended for the treatment of damaged hair that has been sensitized (i.e., damaged and / or weakened) to varying degrees by the action of an atmospheric agent or by mechanical or chemical treatments, such as dyeing, bleaching and / or permanent waving operations. When damaged, the hair is often difficult to detangle and lacks softness. It is well known in the art to use a hair conditioner in compositions for washing or caring for the hair in order to facilitate the detangling of the hair and to obtain the softening and smoothing effect.

[0003] Part of the prior art discloses compositions for the care of keratinous fibers.

[0004] For example, WO 2013 / 189037 discloses a personal care composition comprising a pearl conditioning composition comprising: a) at least one fatty alcohol containing a fatty chain with at least 22 carbon atoms, b) at least one fatty amide,

[0005] c) at least one alkylpolyglycoside, and d) at least one revitalizing agent.

[0006] However, there is still a demand for cosmetic compositions that can provide keratinous fibers with enhanced conditioning effects, such as effects imparting softness and smooth texture to keratinous fibers, and that have increased viscosity because viscosity is essential in providing consumers with conditioning cues. DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION

[0007] An objective of the present invention is to provide a composition which can provide keratinous fibers such as hair with an improved conditioning effect, such as effects imparting softness and smooth texture to the keratinous fibers, and which has an increased viscosity without weighing down the keratinous fibers such as hair.

[0008] The above objective of the present invention can be achieved by a composition comprising: a. at least one fatty alcohol having a carbon chain containing from 20 to 26 carbon atoms; b. at least one fatty amide; c. at least one sugar ether surfactant; and d. at least one betaine compound in an amount of at least 1.5% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0009] The (a) fatty alcohol may have a carbon chain containing from 20 to 24 carbon atoms.

[0010] The amount of the (a) fatty alcohol(s) in the composition may range from 0.5% to 20% by weight, preferably from 1% to 15% by weight, more preferably from 2% to 10% by weight, and even more preferably from 3% to 7% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0011] The (b) fatty amide may be chosen from those formed by reaction of an alkanolamine and a C4-C28 fatty acid.

[0012] The (b) fatty amide may be chosen from Cocamide MIPA, Cocamide MEA (coco monoethanolamide), and mixtures thereof.

[0017] in which • Ri represents a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched alkyl radical containing from 1 to 30, preferably 6 to 28, and more preferably 8 to 26 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl radical containing from 7 to 30, preferably 7 to 28, and more preferably 7 to 26 carbon atoms, provided that at least one of Ri denotes a linear or branched alkyl radical containing from 1 to 30 carbon atoms; • R2 represents an alkylene radical containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms; • G represents a reduced sugar containing 5 or 6 carbon atoms; • t denotes a value ranging from 0 to 10; and • v denotes a value ranging from 1 to 15.

[0018] The alkyl glucoside may be selected from the group consisting of caprylyl / capryl glucoside, decyl glucoside, lauryl glucoside, cetearyl glucoside, arachidyl glucoside, isostearyl glucoside, oleyl glucoside, C12-20 alkyl glucoside, and mixtures thereof.

[0019] The amount of the (c) sugar ether surfactant(s) may range from 0.5% to 20% by weight, preferably from 1% to 15% by weight, more preferably from 1.5% to 10% by weight, and even more preferably from 2% to 7% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0020] The (d) betaine compound may be selected from trimethyl glycine, carnitine and proline betaine.

[0021] The amount of the betaine compound(s) in the composition may range from 1.5% to 15% by weight, preferably from 2% to 10% by weight, more preferably from 2.5% to 7% by weight, and even more preferably from 3% to 7% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0022] The composition according to any one of the preceding claims may further comprise at least one amphoteric surfactant, preferably chosen from phospholipids, more preferably chosen from phosphoacylglycerol, and even more preferably chosen from lecithins.

[0024] The present invention also relates to a cosmetic process for revitalizing or caring for keratinous fibers, such as hair, comprising:

[0025] the application to the keratinous substance of the composition according to the present invention; and

[0026] optional rinsing of the composition of keratinous fibers. Best mode for carrying out the invention

[0027] After extensive research, the inventors surprisingly discovered that adding the specific amount of the (d) betaine compound to the combination of ingredients (a) to (c) can increase the viscosity of the composition without weighing down the keratinous fibers such as hair, as well as imparting improved softness and smooth texture to the hair, and thus finalized the invention.

[0028] Thus, the composition according to the present invention comprises: a. at least one fatty alcohol having a carbon chain containing from 20 to 26 carbon atoms; b. at least one fatty amide; c. at least one sugar ether surfactant; and d. at least one betaine compound in an amount of at least 1.5% by weight per relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0029] The present invention can provide keratinous fibers such as hair with an improved softening and smoothing effect. Thus, the composition according to the present invention can be intended for the revitalization and / or care of keratinous fibers.

[0030] The term "keratinous fibers" herein refers to fibers containing keratin as a main constituent, and examples thereof include hair, eyelashes, eyebrows, and the like. It is preferable that the cosmetic composition according to the present invention is used for a cosmetic process for keratinous fibers and, more preferably, hair.

[0031] The composition according to the present invention can also increase the viscosity of the composition without weighing down keratinous fibers such as hair. Thus, keratinous fibers treated with the composition according to the present invention can exhibit a desired viscous property. The viscosity of cosmetic compositions, especially hair care cosmetic compositions, is very important because it is essential to provide repair indices to consumers. The inventors of the present invention have surprisingly discovered that adding the specific amount of the (d) betaine compound to the specific combinations of ingredients (a) to (c) can achieve appropriate viscosity as well as revitalizing effects.

If they are unsaturated, these compounds may have one to three conjugated or unconjugated carbon-carbon double bonds.

[0125] The esters according to this variant can also be chosen from monoesters, diesters, triesters, tetraesters, polyesters, and mixtures thereof.

[0133] The term "fat" in fatty alcohol means the inclusion of a relatively significant number of carbon atoms. Thus, alcohols that have 4 or more carbon atoms, preferably 6 or more, and more preferably 12 or more, are encompassed within the scope of fatty alcohols. Fatty alcohol can be saturated or unsaturated. Fatty alcohol can be linear or branched.

[0134] The fatty alcohol as an optional oily ingredient is selected from fatty alcohols other than (a) fatty alcohol having a carbon chain containing from 20 to 26 carbon atoms. Thus, the fatty alcohol as an optional oily ingredient may be selected from fatty alcohols having a carbon chain containing from 4 to 19 carbon atoms and / or fatty alcohols having a carbon chain containing from 27 carbon atoms or more.

[0135] The fatty acids that may be used in the composition of the present disclosure may be saturated or unsaturated and comprise from 6 to 30 carbon atoms such as from 9 to 30 carbon atoms. [0144] The composition according to the present invention may comprise at least one

[0145]

[0146]

[0147]

[0148]

[0149]

[0150]

[0151] hydrophilic thickener. A single type of hydrophilic thickener or a combination of different types of hydrophilic thickeners can be used. The term "hydrophilic" herein refers to materials soluble in water at a concentration of 1% by weight or more relative to the total weight of water at room temperature (25°C) and atmospheric pressure (105 Pa). The hydrophilic thickener(s) may be natural or synthetic hydrophilic thickener(s). The hydrophilic thickener(s) may preferably be selected from thickening polymers bearing sugar units, such as non-associative thickening polymers bearing sugar units. For the purposes of the present invention, the expression “sugar unit” means an oxygen-bearing hydrocarbon compound containing several alcohol functions, with or without aldehyde or ketone functions, and which comprises at least 4 carbon atoms. The sugar units can optionally be modified by substitution, and / or by oxidation and / or by dehydration. The sugar units that may be included in the hydrophilic thickening polymers of the present invention are preferably derived from one or more of the following sugars: glucose, galactose, arabinose, rhamnose, mannose, xylose, fucose, anhydrogalactose, galacturonic acid, glucuronic acid, mannuronic acid, galactose sulfate, anhydrogalactose sulfate and fructose. It is better to choose the thickener from polysaccharides. Thickening polymers containing sugar units which may be cited include native gums such as: a. tree or shrub exudates, including: • gum arabic (branched polymer of galactose, arabinose, rhamnose and glucuronic acid); • gum ghatti (polymer derived from arabinose, galactose, mannose, xylose and glucuronic acid); • karaya gum (polymer derived from galacturonic acid, galactose, rhamnose and glucuronic acid); • gum tragacanth (polymer of galacturonic acid, galactose, fucose, xylose and arabinose); a. gums derived from algae, including: • agar-agar (polymer derived from galactose and anhydrogalactose); • alginates (polymers of mannuronic acid and glucuronic acid); • carrageenans and furcellerans (polymers of galactose sulfate and anhydrogalactose sulfate); a. gums derived from seeds or tubers, including: • guar gum (polymer of mannose and galactose); • carob gum (polymer of mannose and galactose); • fenugreek gum (polymer of mannose and galactose); • tamarind gum (polymer of galactose, xylose and glucose); • konjac gum (polymer of glucose and mannose); a. microbial gums, including: • xanthan gum (polymer of glucose, mannose acetate, mannose / pyruvic acid and glucuronic acid); • gellan gum (polymer of partially acylated glucose, rhamnose and glucuronic acid); • scleroglucan gum (glucose polymer); a. plant extracts, including: • cellulose (glucose polymer); • starch (glucose polymer) and • inulin.

[0152] These polymers can be modified physically or chemically. As a physical treatment, temperature can in particular be mentioned.

[0153] Chemical treatments that may be cited include esterification, etherification, amidation and oxidation reactions. These treatments can lead to polymers that may in particular be non-ionic, anionic or amphoteric.

[0154] Preferably, the thickening polymers carrying sugar units are not chemically or physically treated.

[0155] The non-ionic guar gums which can be used according to the invention can be modified by C1-C6 (poly)hydroxyalkyl groups.

[0156] Among the C1-C6 (poly)hydroxyalkyl groups, mention may be made, by way of example, of the hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl and hydroxybutyl groups.

[0157] These guar gums are well known in the prior art and can be prepared, for example, by reacting the corresponding alkene oxides, for example, propylene oxides, with guar gum so as to obtain a guar gum modified with hydroxypropyl groups.

[0158] The degree of hydroxyalkylation preferably varies from 0.4 to 1.2 and corresponds to the number of alkylene oxide molecules consumed by the number of free hydroxyl functional groups present on the guar gum.

[0159] Such non-ionic guar gums optionally modified with hydroxyalkyl groups are sold, for example, under the trade names Jaguar HP8, Jaguar HP60 and Jaguar HP120 by the company Rhodia Chimie.

[0160] Among the starches that can be used, we can cite, for example, macro molecules in the form of polymers comprising basic units which are anhydroglucose units. The number of these units and their assembly make it possible to distinguish amylose (linear polymer) from amylopectin (branched polymer). The relative proportions of amylose and amylopectin, as well as their degree of polymerization, can vary depending on the botanical origin of the starches.

[0161] The botanical origin of the starch molecules that can be used in the present invention can be cereals or tubers. Thus, the starches are chosen, for example, from corn starch, rice starch, cassava starch, barley starch, potato starch, wheat starch, sorghum starch and pea starch.

[0162] Starches can be chemically or physically modified, in particular by one or more of the following reactions: pregelatinization, oxidation, crosslinking, esterification, etherification, amidation, heat treatments.

[0163] According to the invention, amphoteric starches may also be used, these amphoteric starches comprising one or more anionic groups and one or more cationic groups. The anionic and cationic groups may be linked to the same reactive site of the starch molecule or to different reactive sites; they are preferably linked to the same reactive site. The anionic groups may be of the carboxylic, phosphate or sulfate type, preferably carboxylic. The cationic groups may be of the primary, secondary, tertiary or quaternary amine type.

[0164] The starches may optionally be C1-C6 hydroxyalkylated or C1-C6 acylated (such as acetylated). The starches may also have undergone heat treatments.

[0165] The non-associative thickening polymers of the invention may be cellulose-based polymers not comprising a C10-C30 fatty chain in their structure.

[0166] According to the invention, the expression "cellulose-based polymer" designates any polysaccharide compound having in its structure sequences of glucose residues linked together via [3-1,4] bonds; in addition to unsubstituted celluloses, cellulose derivatives can be anionic, cationic, amphoteric or non-ionic.

[0167] Thus, the cellulose polymers which can be used according to the invention can be chosen from unsubstituted celluloses, including those in microcrystalline form, and cellulose ethers.

[0168] Among these cellulose-based polymers, we distinguish cellulose ethers, cellulose esters and cellulose ester ethers.

[0169] Among the cellulose esters are inorganic cellulose esters (nitrates, sulfates, phosphates, etc. of cellulose), organic cellulose esters (monoacetates, triacetates, amidopropionates, acetobutyrates, acetopropionates and acetotrimellitates, etc. of cellulose) and mixed organic / inorganic cellulose esters, such as cellulose acetate butyrate sulfates and cellulose acetate propionate sulfates. Examples of cellulose ester ethers include hydroxypropylmethylcellulose phthalates and ethylcellulose sulfates.

[0170] Among the non-ionic cellulose ethers without a Cio-C3o fatty chain, i.e. which are "non-associative", mention may be made of (Ci-C4)alkylcelluloses such as methylcelluloses and ethylcelluloses (for example Ethocel standard 100 Premium from Dow Chemical); (poly)hydroxy(Ci-C4)alkylcelluloses, such as hydroxymethylcelluloses, hydroxyethylcelluloses (for example, Natrosol 250 HHR supplied by Aqualon) and hydroxypropylcelluloses (for example, Klucel EF from Aqualon); mixed (poly)hydroxy(Ci-C4)alkyl-(Ci-C4)alkylcelluloses such as hydroxypropylmethylcelluloses (for example, Methocel E4M from Dow Chemical); hydroxyethyl methylcelluloses, hydroxyethyl ethylcelluloses (e.g., Bermocoll E 481 FQ from Akzo Nobel) and hydroxybutyl methylcelluloses.

[0171] Among the anionic cellulose ethers without fatty chain, mention may be made of (poly)carboxy(Ci-C4)alkylcelluloses and their salts. By way of example, mention may be made of carboxymethylcelluloses, carboxymethylmethylcelluloses (for example Blanose 7M from the company Aqualon) and carboxymethylhydroxyethylcelluloses, and their sodium salts.

[0172] Among the cationic cellulose ethers without a fatty chain, mention may be made of cationic cellulose derivatives such as cellulose copolymers or cellulose derivatives grafted with a water-soluble quaternary ammonium monomer, and described in particular in US patent 4,131,576, such as (poly)hydroxy(Ci-C4)alkyl celluloses, for example hydroxymethyl-, hydroxyethyl- or hydroxypropylcelluloses grafted in particular with a methacryloylethyltrimethylammonium, methacrylamidopropyltrimethylammonium or dimethyldiallylammonium salt. The commercial products corresponding to this definition are more particularly the products sold under the names Celquat L 200 and Celquat H 100 by the company National Starch.

[0173] The degree of hydroxyalkylation, which corresponds to the number of alkylene oxide molecules consumed by the number of free hydroxyl functions present on the guar gum, can, for example, range from 0.4 to 1.2.

[0174] The amount of the hydrophilic thickener(s) in the composition according to the present invention may range from 0.1% to 10% by weight, preferably from 0.3% to 5% by weight, more preferably from 0.5% to 3% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0280] The present invention will be described in more detail by means of examples. However, they should not be construed as limiting the scope of the present invention. [Preparations]

[0281] Each of the compositions in the form of an O / W emulsion according to Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 was prepared by mixing the ingredients shown in Table 1. Upon melting the behenyl alcohol, thickeners, and the like, it was heated up to 70°C until the ingredient had completely melted. The numerical values of the quantities of the ingredients in Table 1 are all based on the "% by weight" of the ingredients relative to the total weight of the composition, unless otherwise indicated - MA: Active Ingredient. [Assessment] (Viscosity)

[0282] The viscosity of the resulting composition was measured with a Rheomat RM 180 rheometer equipped with a No. 4 spindle at 25°C. The measurement was carried out for 30 seconds after rotating the spindle in the composition for 1 minute at 200 rpm. (Sensory Appreciation)

[0283] 2.7 g of a strand of bleached Chinese hair 27 cm long was prepared. Each of the hair strands was washed once with a clarifying shampoo. After shampooing, the hair strand was rinsed with water and then towel dried. 1 g of each of the compositions according to Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 was applied to the hair strand, and then the hair strand was left on for 5 minutes under room conditions. The hair strand was then rinsed with water and dried with a hair dryer to obtain the treated hair strand.

[0284] The sensory aspects of softness and smooth texture of the treated hair were evaluated by several panelists in a hair care field with scores of 1 to 3 in accordance with the following criteria and were averaged.

[0296] ** : sold by DOW under the trade name XIAMETER MEM-8299 EMULSION (containing 56% to 61% active ingredient)

[0297] *2: sold by BASF under the trade name PLANTAREN 2000 UP (containing ap approximately 53% active ingredient)

[0298] As can be seen from the tables, the compositions according to Example 1, which include the specific combination of ingredients (a) to (d), exhibited improved softening and smoothing effectiveness and desired increased viscosity. Since the composition exhibits improved conditioning effects, such as effects imparting softness and smooth texture to keratinous fibers, it can be said that it does not weigh down the keratinous fibers.

[0299] On the other hand, the compositions according to Comparative Example 1, which do not include the (d) betaine compound, could not exhibit good softening and smoothing effectiveness on keratinous fibers. In addition, the viscosity of the composition according to Comparative Example 1 was not sufficient. In addition, the composition according to Comparative Example 2, which includes only 1% by weight of the betaine compound, could not exhibit good softening and smoothing effectiveness on keratinous fibers. In addition, the viscosity of the composition according to Comparative Example 2 was not sufficient.

[0300] Accordingly, it can be said that the composition according to the present invention is very suitable as a cosmetic composition for the treatment of keratinous fibers, such as hair, because it can provide the keratinous fibers with the improved cosmetic effect of softening and smoothing the keratinous fibers, and also exhibit a desired increased viscosity without weighing down the hair.
