Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Composition for cleaning and / or caring for keratinous material Technical field
[0001] The present invention relates to a composition for cleaning and / or caring for keratinous material, preferably hair and scalp. The present invention also relates to a process for cleaning and / or caring for keratinous material, preferably hair and scalp. STATE OF THE ART
[0002] The scalp is an epidermis that undergoes continuous renewal, like the rest of the skin tissue, and is rich in sebaceous glands. Normally, the scalp is renewed by an imperceptible and invisible elimination of superficial skin cells. However, excessive renewal of cells in the horny layer of the scalp, for various reasons, can lead to the formation of large, thick patches of cells visible to the naked eye, known as "dandruff".
[0003] Dandruff conditions are chronic, frequent and recurring conditions that are socially disabling due to their manifestly unsightly nature. These dandruff conditions of the scalp result in an alteration of the barrier function of the epidermis. In addition, these conditions can give rise to sensations of itching or pruritus, leading to scratching behavior that amplifies the phenomenon of the appearance of dandruff.
[0004] Many cosmetic products for cleaning and / or caring for keratinous material have been developed to comprise at least one anti-dandruff agent in order to solve the aforementioned problems. However, it is often difficult for cosmetic products comprising an anti-dandruff agent to quickly or sufficiently inhibit microorganisms. In addition, a good foaming property pleases consumers. However, it is often difficult for cosmetic products comprising an anti-dandruff agent to provide a desirable foaming property.
[0005] Therefore, there is a need for a composition for cleaning and / or caring for keratinous material, which comprises at least one anti-dandruff agent and which can provide faster and more satisfactory inhibition of microorganisms and therefore better anti-dandruff efficacy, and which is further capable of providing a desirable foaming property. Summary of the invention
[0006] The inventors have discovered that such a need can be satisfied by the composition according to the present invention.
[0007] According to a first aspect, the present invention relates to a composition, preferably for cleaning and / or caring for keratinous material, comprising: a. 0.6% by weight to 30% by weight of at least one alpha-hydroxy acid, relative to the total weight of the composition; b. at least one beta-hydroxy acid and / or derivatives thereof; and c. at least one selenium sulfide.
[0008] According to a second aspect, the present invention relates to a process for cleaning and / or caring for keratinous material, preferably hair and scalp, comprising the following steps: a. applying the composition as described above to a wet keratinous material; b. massaging the keratinous material for 2 seconds to 120 seconds; and c. rinsing the keratinous material with water.
[0009] The inventors have discovered that after application of the composition to keratinous material, preferably hair and scalp, the composition can provide improved anti-dandruff efficacy and furthermore a desirable foaming property.
[0010] Other subjects and characteristics, aspects and advantages of the present invention will appear even more clearly upon reading the detailed description and the examples which follow. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0157] The composition was prepared from a process comprising the following steps: 1. Mix each component of Phase A until homogeneous to form Premix 1; 2. add each component of Phase B into Premix 1 and mix them thoroughly until transparent to form Premix 2; 3. add each component of Phase C into Premix 2 to form Premix 3; 4. add the selenium sulfide from Phase D into Premix 3 and mix them until homogeneous to form Mix 1; and 5. Correct the pH value of Mixture 1 to 3.8 by adding sodium hydroxide to form the final composition. Evaluation of compositions
[0158] The compositions as prepared were evaluated in terms of anti-dandruff efficacy and foaming property. Anti-dandruff efficacy trial
[0159] The anti-dandruff efficacy of each composition of Examples 1 to 6 of the invention and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 was evaluated as follows: 15 ml of each test sample was diluted by a factor of 10 and kept at a temperature of 20 °C for 5 min. The diluted sample was quickly and immediately mixed with a test solution of Malassezia furfur. After contacting for 2 min or 5 min, the surviving microorganisms were tested by a plate counting method.
[0160] The results of the anti-dandruff efficacy of the compositions of Examples 1 to 6 of the invention and of Comparative Examples 1 and 2 are presented respectively in the following Table 3.
[0161] [Tables3] Ex. 1 Ex. 2 Ex. 3 Ex. 4 Ex. 5 Ex. 6 EC. 1 EC. 2% inhibition of Malassez ia Furfur (2 min) 99 99 31 99 99 99 20 15% inhibition of Malassez ia Furfur (5 min) 99.9 9 99.9 9 78 99.9 9 99.9 9 99.9 9 35 28
[0162] From the data in Table 3 above, it can be seen that all the compositions of Examples 1 to 6 of the invention, comprising an amount greater than or equal to 0.6% by weight of an alpha-hydroxy acid, relative to the total weight of each composition, of a beta-hydroxy acid and / or derivatives thereof and of a selenium sulfide, can provide a % inhibition greater than or equal to 30% after contacting the microorganism Malassezia Furfur with each composition for 2 min, and a % inhibition greater than or equal to 70 after contacting the microorganism Malassezia Furfur with each composition for 5 min.
[0163] In contrast, each of the compositions of Comparative Examples 1 and 2, which do not comprise a beta-hydroxy acid and / or derivatives thereof, or comprise an amount less than 0.6% by weight of an alpha-hydroxy acid, provides a much lower % inhibition after contacting the microorganism Malassezia Furfur with each composition for 2 min and / or 5 min. Foaming property test
[0164] For the Foam Volume test protocol: a. prepare water at 10 fH (French hardness) (111 mg of CaCl2 dissolved in 1 1 of DI water); b. weigh 4 g of each composition of Examples 1 to 6 of the invention and place them in a kitchen blender; c. weigh 76 g of 10 fH water prepared to dilute each composition by a factor of 20; d. turn on the kitchen blender (PHILIPS HR2056) and blend for 1 minute; e. quickly transfer the foam produced and the liquid into a 500 ml graduated cylinder; and f. read the total volume.
[0165] The higher the foam volume, the greater the amount of foam, and vice versa.
[0166] The results of the foaming property of the compositions of Examples 1 to 6 of the invention are presented respectively in the following Table 4.
[0167] [Tables4] Ex. 1 Ex. 2 Ex. 3 Ex. 4 Ex. 5 Ex. 6 Foam volume (ml) 200 215 225 215 215 215
[0168] As is known in the field of cleaning products, a foam volume greater than or equal to 200 ml is considered qualified. From the data in Table 4 above, it can be seen that all the compositions of Examples 1 to 6 of the invention, comprising an amount greater than or equal to 0.6% by weight of an alpha-hydroxy acid, relative to the total weight of each composition, of a beta-hydroxy acid and / or derivatives thereof, of a selenium sulfide, can provide a foam volume greater than or equal to 200 ml.
[0169] In summary, the compositions according to the present invention can provide faster and more satisfactory inhibition of microorganisms and therefore better anti-dandruff efficacy, and further provide a desirable foaming property.
