In preferred embodiments, the present invention relates to compositions comprising colloidal metals and/or metals for the treatment and prevention of skin conditions and/or diseases. More specifically, the disclosed metal containing compositions are useful as antioxidants, anti-aging agents, anti-wrinkle agents, anti-peroxidation agents, antimicrobial agents, anti-inflammatory agents, pain-relieving agents, wound recovery agents, sun-screens, sunblocks, and integument and skin-supporting agents when applied to the skin/integument, or administered generally to an animal or human body.

A method for improving the storage stability of personal care formulations containing ultraviolet (UV) radiation-absorbing agents (sunscreen agents) is disclosed. The present invention relates to topical compositions containing solid particles that are stabilized via entrapment by microspheres and methods for making the same. Each of the microspheres contains a collapsed polymeric shell that has entrapped therein one or more solid particles. Any of components are preferably mixed using an homogenizer and an appropriate thickening agent including but not limited to xanthan gum, and/or carageenan, either individually or in any combination that is added as required.

Topically applicable photostable sunscreen/photoprotective compositions contain at least one dibenzoylmethane UV-sunscreen and an effective photostabilizing amount therefor of at least one amphiphilic block copolymer which comprises at least one nonionic hydrophilic polymer block and at least one hydrophobic polymer block, formulated into a topically applicable, cosmetically acceptable medium therefor.

A personal care composition is composed of:

• • (a) from about 0.1% to about 99% by weight of a vehicle system which comprises a hydrophobically modified nonionic water soluble polysaccharide polymer which comprises a water soluble polysaccharide polymer backbone and a hydrophobic moiety selected from the group consisting of 3-alkoxy-2-hydroxypropyl group wherein the allyl moiety is a straight or branch chain having 2-6 carbon atoms, C₃-C₇ alky aryl alkyl, alkyl aryl groups and mixtures thereof, wherein the ratio of the hydrophilic portion to the hydrophobic portion of the polymer is from about 2:1 to 1000:1, and
  • (b) at least one other personal care ingredient.

This compostion can be used in a wide range of personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair coloring and styling agents, soaps, body washing agents, underarm products, lubricating agents, oral care products, denture adhesives, sunscreen agents, make-up products, and the like.
