Description

Title of the invention: MOTOR VEHICLE WITH STEERING WHEEL EQUIPPED WITH AN ILLUMINABLE PART Field of invention

[0001] The invention relates to a motor vehicle, in particular, comprising a steering wheel with an illuminable emblem. Prior art

[0002] Motor vehicles are usually provided with a plurality of controls and mechanisms that are used by a driver or passengers for various purposes, which may relate to activating or performing basic or auxiliary functions of the motor vehicle, or locking or unlocking locks or other controls of the motor vehicle.

[0003] Typically, the driver becomes aware of the use of the controls and mechanisms mentioned above simply to the extent that he directly observes their effect or at most through the lighting of warning lights or indicators present on a dashboard, or through information transmitted on the screens of a man-machine interface of the motor vehicle.

[0004] In general, there is a need not only to increase as much as possible the immediacy of a response to the correct use of the controls and mechanisms, but also to provide the response in order to generate positive environmental sensations in the driver which result in greater comfort and a feeling of pleasure when using the motor vehicle.

[0005] An object of the invention is to satisfy the above-mentioned requirement, preferably in a simple and repeatable manner. Description of the invention

[0006] The aim is achieved by a motor vehicle comprising a steering wheel, in which the steering wheel comprises a transparent part and a light emitting device configured to illuminate the transparent part, the motor vehicle comprising another device distinct from the light emitting device and configured to cause an emission of a lighting control signal in response to an execution of a function of the other device, in which the light emitting device is configured to illuminate the transparent part in response to the emission of the lighting control signal.

[0007] The dependent claims define particular embodiments of the invention. Brief description of the drawings

[0008] In the following part, an embodiment of the invention is described for a better understanding of the latter by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the attached drawings in which: [Fig.l] [Fig.l] is a perspective view of a motor vehicle according to the invention; [Fig.2] [Fig.2] is a perspective view of a passenger compartment of the motor vehicle of [Fig.l], in which a dashboard and a steering wheel are visible; and [Fig.3] [Fig.3] is identical to [Fig.2], with a larger visual of the passenger compartment and the presence of seats and passengers in the motor vehicle. Embodiments of the invention

[0009] In [Fig.l], the reference numeral 1 is used to indicate, as a whole, a motor vehicle.

[0010] The motor vehicle 1 has a passenger compartment 2 shown in [Fig. 2]. The passenger compartment 2 is provided with a steering wheel 3 and a dashboard 3b, both of which are part of the motor vehicle 1.

[0011] Furthermore, the motor vehicle 1 comprises a body 4 internally defining the passenger compartment 2 and a door 5, for example a side door. The door 5 is coupled to the body 4 in a movable manner relative to the body 4 between at least a closed configuration, in which it closes or occupies an opening of the body and an open configuration, in which it releases access to the opening on the part of a user of the motor vehicle 1.

[0012] The steering wheel 3 comprises a transparent part 10 and a light emitting device 11 configured to illuminate the transparent part 10.

[0013] In more detail, the light emitted by the light emitting device 11 is transmitted through the transparent part 10, in order to be visible to the driver.

[0014] Thus, the driver perceives that the transparent part 10 is illuminated.

[0015] The light emitting device 11 is configured to illuminate the transparent part in response to the emission of a lighting control signal from one or more appropriate devices of the motor vehicle 1, the devices being distinct from the light emitting device 11 itself.

[0016] In other words, the emission of the lighting control signal may occur due to at least one of the devices of the motor vehicle 1 which will be described hereinafter in more detail. Therefore, each of these devices is configured to cause the emission of the lighting control signal in response to the performance of its specific function.

[0017] For the sake of clarity, the devices for transmitting the lighting control signal will be referred to hereinafter as activation devices.

[0018] In more detail, each of the activation devices comprises an ECU control unit, which may be the same for all the activation devices or for some of the activation devices themselves, or may be dedicated for the corresponding activation device.

[0019] The ECU control unit is configured to detect the performance of the specific function of the corresponding activation device or to output the lighting control signal when it determines the performance of the specific function, i.e. in response to the determination of the performance of the specific function.

[0020] The light emitting device 11 is coupled to the ECU control unit in order to receive the lighting control signal emitted by the ECU control unit and illuminate the transparent part 10 accordingly.

[0021] The light-emitting device 11 may be of a known type and is therefore illustrated only schematically. The light-emitting device 11 may be positioned behind the transparent part 10, for example so that the transparent part 10 has a function of shielding the light-emitting device 11.

[0022] For example, the light emitting device 11 may comprise an LED matrix behind the transparent part 10. Furthermore, the light emitting device 11 may comprise one or more light filters, possibly colored, between the LED matrix and the transparent part 10.

[0023] Taking into consideration the above part, the transparent part 10 can be considered as an integral part of the light emitting device 11.

[0024] Preferably, the steering wheel 3 comprises an airbag module having an outer cover comprising the transparent portion 10. Alternatively or additionally, the portion 10 is constituted by the outer cover itself.

[0025] In particular, the transparent portion 10 and / or the light-emitting device 11 are designed to break in a controlled manner in response to a pre-established load, for example a load corresponding to the activation of the airbag module. Furthermore, the transparent portion 10 and / or the light-emitting device 11 are designed, for example, through the appropriate selection of materials, shapes and dimensions, not to be detrimental to the user in front of the steering wheel 3.

[0026] For the sake of clarity, the term transparent should be understood to mean that it has a certain degree of transparency, which may be 100% or less, but not zero. In other words, the portion 10 is not completely opaque or reflective, i.e. it allows the transmission of light therethrough.

[0027] Preferably, the part 10 is translucent, that is to say it allows the transmission of light therethrough, but it does not allow the driver to clearly distinguish what is behind the part 10 itself, in particular when the light emitting device 11 is off, that is to say it does not emit light or does not illuminate the part 10.

[0028] The internal features of the steering wheel airbag module 3, apart from the outer cover with the transparent part 10 and the light emitting device 11, may have a commonly known function and be known per se, which is why they will not be described in more detail.

[0029] Preferably, the steering wheel 3 comprises an emblem 12 on the transparent part 10. The emblem 12 is arranged to or so as to be illuminated by the light-emitting device 11 when the latter illuminates the transparent part 10.

[0030] Now, each of the activation devices is presented in more detail.

[0031] For example, the activation device comprises a locking group 13 configured to perform at least one function between allowing the door 5 to be latched to the body 4, holding the door 5 to the body 4 and releasing the door 5 relative to the body 4.

[0032] More precisely, the locking group 13 comprises a hooking interface fixed to the body 4 and configured to cooperate with a corresponding device for hooking the door 5 in the closed configuration, thus carrying out the hooking of the door 5 with the body 4.

[0033] Furthermore, the locking group 13 comprises, in particular, a release device not shown, which is configured to interact with the hooking interface and the hooking device in order to release the latter from each other, so that the user can bring the door 5 into the open configuration. For example, the release device can be actuated by the user by means of a handle 14 of the door 5 or another suitable device usable by the user.

[0034] Furthermore, the locking group 13 comprises a lock that can be controlled to selectively hold and release the door 5 in the closed configuration, or when it is hooked to the body 4, relative to the body 4.

[0035] Here, in particular, the term maintain is understood to mean that the door 5 is then locked in the closed configuration with an additional constraint compared to the simple attachment of the door 5 to the body 4 by means of the cooperation between the attachment interface and the attachment device. On the other hand, the term release corresponds here to the removal of the additional constraint mentioned above.

[0036] In other words, the user cannot unhook the door 5 from the body 4, for example by means of the unhook device, without having previously ordered the lock to release the door 5 from the body 4, that is to say without having removed the additional constraint provided by the lock.

[0037] The user can control the locking group 13 or more precisely the lock to selectively hold and release the door 5, in particular, when the door 5 is in the closed configuration or hooked to the body 4, by means of at least one appropriate control group of the motor vehicle 1. In other words, the control group can be used by the user to control the locking group 13 or more precisely the lock to selectively hold and release the door 5.

[0038] For example, the control group may comprise one or more controls 15 arranged inside the passenger compartment 2 (for example buttons) and configured to control the locking group 13 or more precisely the lock to selectively hold and release the door 5.

[0039] Alternatively or additionally, the control group may comprise a portable control 16, for example a remote control, which can be carried by the user even outside the passenger compartment 2. The portable control 16 is also configured to control the locking group 13 or more precisely the lock to selectively hold and release the door 5.

[0040] The control group or more particularly one of its components is configured or can be controlled, i.e. to emit or carry out an emission of a locking control signal to control the locking group 13 or the lock.

[0041] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused when or in response to the fact that the locking group 13 releases or holds the door 5 relative to the body 4, or when or in response to the fact that the door 5 is hooked to the body 4.

[0042] More particularly, the emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to a command from the locking group 13 to release or hold the door 5 relative to the body 4 by means of the controls 15, the portable control 16 or more generally the control group. In other words, the emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to the emission of the locking control signal.

[0043] More precisely, the ECU control unit is configured to detect or determine an event defined by: a release of the door 5 from the body 4 by means of the locking group 13, in particular controlled by means of the control group or one of its components; or a holding of the door 5 to the body 4 by means of the locking group 13, in particular controlled by means of the control group or one of its components; or a hooking of the door 5 to the body 4, in particular through the cooperation of the hooking interface and the hooking device.

[0044] Thus the ECU control unit is configured to output the lighting control signal in response to the detection or determination of the event, such that the activation device causes the output of the lighting control signal.

[0045] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular one of the functions of attaching the door 5 to the body, holding the door 5 to the body 4 and releasing the door 5 relative to the body 4.

[0046] According to another example, the activation device comprises a sensor 17 configured to detect the fact that the user touches a part of the steering wheel 3, in particular comprising or defined by the part 10. In other words, the part of the steering wheel 3 is sensitive to touch thanks to the sensor 17.

[0047] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused when or in response to the sensor 17 detecting the touch of the user.

[0048] More specifically, the sensor 17 is configured to output a touch signal indicative of the manifestation of touch; further, the ECU control unit is coupled to the sensor 17 and is configured to receive the touch signal.

[0049] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to receiving the touch signal, such that the activation device causes the lighting control signal to be output.

[0050] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the user's touch.

[0051] According to another example, the activation device comprises a pedal 18 configured to accelerate or brake the motor vehicle, or to control a clutch of the motor vehicle. In practice, the pedal 18 is one of an accelerator pedal, a brake pedal and a clutch pedal of the motor vehicle 1.

[0052] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to the compression of the pedal 18.

[0053] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the pedal 18 and is configured to detect compression of the pedal 18.

[0054] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to detecting compression of the pedal 18, such that the activation device causes the lighting control signal to be output.

[0055] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the compression of the pedal 18.

[0056] According to another example, the activation device comprises a sensor 19 configured to detect a brightness level external to the motor vehicle 1. The level is all the higher as the environment outside the motor vehicle 1 is bright.

[0057] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused when or in response to the fact that the external brightness level detected by the sensor 19 is lower than a threshold, in particular corresponding to a standard brightness value after sunset. In practice, the external brightness level becomes lower than the threshold after sunset, that is to say in the evening and at night, and before sunrise, or in any case in correspondence with places that are always dark, such as for example in a tunnel.

[0058] More specifically, the sensor 19 is configured to output an external brightness signal associated with the detected external brightness level; further, the ECU control unit is coupled to the sensor 19 and is configured to determine the external brightness level from the external brightness signal.

[0059] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal when or in response to determining that the determined external brightness level is below the threshold.

[0060] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the moment when the external brightness level is below the threshold.

[0061] According to another example, the activation device comprises a control 20 configured to turn on and / or off not only an engine of the motor vehicle 1, but possibly also or alternatively a human-machine interface of the motor vehicle. In practice, the control 20 is the typical start control, for example implemented as a button.

[0062] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to an actuation of the control 20, which may be for a command between switching the engine on and off or a command between switching the human-machine interface on and off.

[0063] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the control 20 and is configured to detect the actuation of the control 20.

[0064] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to detecting actuation of the control 20, such that the activation device causes the lighting control signal to be output.

[0065] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the actuation of the control 20.

[0066] According to another example, the activation device comprises a sensor 21 configured to detect a presence of the user in the passenger compartment 2. For example, the sensor 21 may be configured to detect a quantity indicative of a weight exerted on a seat 22 of the motor vehicle 1 inside the passenger compartment 2; thus, the sensor 21 detects the presence of the user when the detected quantity indicates that the weight on the seat 22 exceeds a threshold, in particular, corresponding to the weight of a person.

[0067] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused when or in response to the sensor 21 detecting the presence of the user.

[0068] More specifically, the sensor 21 is configured to emit a presence detection signal in response to the detection of the presence of the user.

[0069] The ECU control unit is coupled to the sensor 21 and is configured to receive the presence detection signal from the sensor 21.

[0070] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal when or in response to receiving the presence detection signal from the sensor 21.

[0071] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the presence of the user in the passenger compartment 2.

[0072] According to another example, the activation device comprises a seat belt 23 which can be attached to hold the user on the seat 22. The seat belt 23 is in itself a known safety device typical for motor vehicles, which is why it will not be described in more detail.

[0073] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to an attachment of the seat belt 23 or when the seat belt 23 is attached.

[0074] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the seat belt 23 and is configured to detect the attachment of the seat belt 23.

[0075] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to detecting the fastening of the seat belt 23, such that the activation device causes the lighting control signal to be output.

[0076] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the attachment of the seat belt 23.

[0077] According to another example, the activation device comprises a light adjustment group 24 which can be actuated to modify a setting of a lighting group 25 of the motor vehicle 1.

[0078] In particular, the lighting group 25 may comprise one or more internal or ambient lights 26 inside the passenger compartment 2 to illuminate the passenger compartment, and / or headlights or lights 27 to illuminate the exterior of the motor vehicle 1, including for example the main beam headlights, the dipped beam headlights, the fog lights, the position lights and the like.

[0079] The light adjustment group 24 may include one or more controls 28 that can be used by the user to modify the setting of the group. lighting 25, that is to say more specifically not only for selectively switching on and off the internal or ambient lights 26 and / or the headlights or lights 27, but also for adjusting the light emission thereof when they are switched on.

[0080] The controls 28 may comprise buttons, levers, dials, touch-sensitive elements, switches and any type of control known per se. Preferably, the controls 28 are arranged inside the passenger compartment 2.

[0081] In other words, changing the setting of the lighting group 25 means switching on or off or adjusting the light emission, for example in terms of light intensity, emission frequency, light color, light direction, and the like, of at least one of the headlights or lights 27 and the interior or ambient lights 26 by means of the light adjustment group 24 or more precisely by means of a corresponding control of the controls 28.

[0082] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to an actuation of the light adjustment group 24, i.e. in response to a modification of the adjustment of the lighting group 25, where the modification may consist of switching on, switching off or adjusting the light emission of one of the headlights or lights 27 and the internal or ambient lights 26, in particular by means of the corresponding control of the controls 28.

[0083] More specifically, the ECU control unit may be coupled to the light adjustment group 24 and / or the lighting group 25. Furthermore, the ECU control unit is configured to determine or detect a change in the setting of the lighting group 25, for example with respect to the detection of the change itself by the lighting group 25 or by detecting an actuation of the light adjustment group 24, i.e. more precisely a use of one of the controls 28 to change the setting of the lighting group 25.

[0084] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to detecting or determining that the setting of the lighting group 25 has changed.

[0085] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the modification of the setting of the lighting group 25.

[0086] According to another example, the activation device comprises a parking brake 29 that can be activated to block the motor vehicle 1 during a stop. The parking brake 29 may be a component known per se in motor vehicles, which is why it will not be described in more detail. The parking brake 29 can also be deactivated to remove the blocking of the motor vehicle 1.

[0087] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to a deactivation of the parking brake 29.

[0088] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the parking brake 29 and is configured to detect deactivation of the parking brake 29.

[0089] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to detecting the deactivation of the parking brake 29, such that the activation device causes the lighting control signal to be output.

[0090] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the deactivation of the parking brake 29.

[0091] According to another example, the activation device comprises a voice receiver 30 configured to detect a voice command from the user to request the illumination of the transparent part 10. The voice command may be a specific instruction uniquely recognizable by the voice receiver 30, or any codified instruction recognizable by the voice receiver 30.

[0092] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused when the voice receiver 30 detects the voice command to request the lighting of the transparent part, i.e. in response to the detection of the voice command. The voice receiver 30 may be part, for example, of the human-machine interface of the motor vehicle 1.

[0093] More specifically, the voice receiver 30 outputs a voice recognition signal in response to detecting the voice command. The ECU control unit is coupled to the voice receiver 30 and is configured to receive the voice recognition signal.

[0094] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to receiving the voice recognition signal, such that the activation device causes the lighting control signal to be output.

[0095] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the user's voice command to request the lighting of the transparent part 10.

[0096] According to another example, the activation device comprises a gearbox 31 operable to adjust a transmission ratio, i.e. a ratio, between an engine of the motor vehicle 1 and an axle of the motor vehicle 1.

[0097] The gearbox 31 in particular allows the adjustment of one of a discrete plurality of transmission ratios or gears. More particularly, the gearbox 31 comprises a gear selector 32, for example a gear change lever, arranged in the passenger compartment 2 and capable of being manipulated or used by the user to adjust or select one of the ratios.

[0098] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to an actuation of the gearbox 31, that is to say to the adjustment of a ratio, in particular by means of the gear selector 32.

[0099] More precisely, the ECU control unit is coupled to the gearbox 31 or more precisely to the gear selector 32 and is configured to detect the actuation of the gearbox 31 or the gear selector 32, i.e. the setting of a gear, in particular, by means of the gear selector 32.

[0100] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to detecting actuation of the gearbox 31 or the gear selector 32, such that the activation device causes the lighting control signal to be output.

[0101] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the actuation of the gearbox 31 or the gear selector 32.

[0102] According to another example, the activation device comprises an electrical charger 33, i.e., a device configured to provide, as an output, the electrical charge. The electrical charger 33 may be coupled to an electrical energy storage device 40, such as a battery or a capacitor, for example, a cellular device, a portable computer, or any other electrical or electronic device rechargeable with the electrical charge. The electrical charger 33 is configured to provide the electrical charge to the electrical energy storage device, i.e., to recharge the electrical energy storage device, when it is coupled thereto. The coupling may take place via a physical coupling interface of the electrical charger 33, such as an output port of the electrical charge, or with wireless modalities, including magnetic coupling modalities.

[0103] Preferably, the electric charger 33 is arranged inside the passenger compartment 2.

[0104] The emission of the lighting control signal is caused in response to a coupling of the electric charger 33 to the electric energy storage device.

[0105] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the electric charger 33 and is configured to detect the coupling of the electric charger 33 to the electrical energy storage device.

[0106] The ECU control unit is further configured to output the lighting control signal in response to detecting the coupling of the electrical charger 33 to the electrical energy storage device, such that the activation device causes the lighting control signal to be output.

[0107] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the coupling of the electric charger 33 to the electric energy storage device.

[0108] From the above, the advantages of the motor vehicle 1 according to the invention are clearly evident.

[0109] The user has an optimal perception of the performance of the specific functions of the activation devices since the steering wheel 3 is illuminated by means of the transparent part 10 and the light-emitting device 11.

[0110] In particular, the light emitted by the light emitting device 11 and transmitted through the transparent part 10 enters directly into the primary visibility cone of the user, thus stimulating the latter's attention in an improved manner compared to the known technique.

[0111] It is finally clear that modifications and variants can be made to the motor vehicle 1, according to the invention, which, however, do not go beyond the scope of protection defined by the claims.
