The Brennus shield

Abstract

The Brennus Shield is a device designed for the personal protection of security forces. It is an innovative device combining impact and ballistic protection. Designed to accommodate a less-lethal launcher or any other firearm thanks to a dedicated slot, this shield is reversible to suit both right- and left-handed users. (Fig. 1) A central Velcro strip on both sides of the shield allows for the addition of accessories such as a forearm pad and a ballistic pouch (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3). A handle and an adjustable strap ensure interchangeable and reversible handling. (Fig. 4). By addressing the lack of protection for those carrying less-lethal launchers, this invention offers a practical and effective solution to guarantee their safety and autonomy during operations, while also being able to become a bulletproof shield with the addition of the ballistic pouch. [0001] This project falls within the domain of public order defense. It is personal protective and ballistic equipment.

[0002] A great many shields exist today, numerous shields for crowd control, primarily square for smaller shields and rectangular for larger ones. They are transparent and made of polycarbonate, and their use is solely dedicated to maintaining and restoring order. Ballistic shields also come in a vast array of shapes, weights, and designs. However, none of these shields has a versatile design that allows them to be converted from a simple crowd control shield into one with an integrated ballistic plate. Furthermore, current crowd control shields have smooth surfaces and are not designed for use with shoulder-fired weapons such as defense ball launchers.

[0003] The first problem encountered concerns urban violence, where law enforcement officers are often targeted by numerous projectiles and must face a constantly growing threat. Current crowd control shields only serve to protect against blows and projectiles. To retaliate, officers must take cover or position themselves behind a colleague equipped with a shield before they can fire. The shield we have designed allows the wearer to protect themselves while being able to retaliate directly, without losing mobility, thus combining protection and the ability to retaliate.

[0004] The second problem identified is the increase in live ammunition use during crowd control and urban violence operations, as observed in Corsica, Martinique / Guadeloupe, and recently in New Caledonia. However, most units do not have collective ballistic equipment such as conventional ballistic shields due to logistical and financial constraints. To address this, we designed our shield to be versatile by integrating a ballistic plate pocket, which can be attached and removed using Velcro as needed. Thus, the shield transforms from a crowd control device allowing for a response with a non-lethal weapon to a ballistic shield enabling a response with a lethal weapon. This design offers significant gains in time, mobility, and cost for law enforcement during interventions. Description of the implementation methods 1. Reversibility and Versatility

[0006] • Integrated notch: A specific notch is present on the side of the Shield designed to allow for the secure placement of a firearm. This notch is designed to facilitate firing while maintaining optimal shield protection. • Safety lug: A lug is positioned at the end of the notch to prevent the weapon from slipping, thus ensuring maximum stability during use. 3. Durability and Resonance Reduction

[0007] • Contour with plastic seal: All around the shield, a seal in A robust plastic seal is integrated. This seal serves to protect the shield from impacts and to reduce vibration and resonance when struck, thus prolonging its lifespan. 4. Modularity and Accessories

[0008] • Velcro squares: On each side of the shield, a large Velcro square allows you to attach various accessories such as a tactical light or a pouch. • Ballistic plate pocket: The hook-and-loop fasteners can also accommodate a specially designed pocket for inserting a ballistic plate, thus offering additional protection if needed. This pocket can therefore come in different sizes depending on the various ballistic plates available. • Storage cover: A cover designed to store the shield will be custom-made to prevent premature wear. [0009] This invention relates to a multi-purpose shield intended for law enforcement to protect themselves during high-intensity urban violence or crowd control operations, while allowing for an effective response. The shield has a polygonal shape, equipped with a notch to accommodate a weapon. It is reversible, usable by left- and right-handed users, and versatile thanks to a hook-and-loop fastener that allows for the addition of a pocket for a ballistic plate, thus transforming a standard shield into a small ballistic shield.

1. A multi-purpose protective device, characterized in that it comprises a shield intended to accommodate a defense ball launcher, said shield comprising: a notch adapted to fix and secure the defense ball launcher, a reversible structure allowing use by a left-handed or right-handed user, a handle and an adjustable strap, configured to ensure ergonomic handling (see).

Device according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises a removable ballistic pouch, configured to receive a ballistic plate and offer additional protection against projectile impacts, said pouch being fixed by a modular Velcro system allowing customization of its positioning on the shield.

3. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the shield is equipped with a forearm cushion, fixed by a Velcro system.
