Abstract

Device for removing manhole covers. The invention relates to a device for removing manhole covers without damaging the structure, effortlessly, and at a lower cost to the community, thus allowing access to the sewer system. It consists of two legs (2), an I-beam-type platform (4) on top connecting the two legs, reinforced by struts (3) beneath the platform. At the center of this platform is a lifting system (5). An iron bar (6) is placed on this system, with a chain (7) at its end, which connects beneath the platform to a lifting hook (8) in its center. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for opening glued manhole covers in public works. [0001] The EPE 24 is a manhole cover extractor which consists of lifting manhole covers that are stuck without breaking the latter.

[0002] Having 6 years of experience in the field of sanitation, I have been confronted several times with the problems of glued manhole covers which, despite all the classic techniques we know for removing them, do not work, so we report to the communities and they choose to replace the entire structure.

[0003] Which results in an additional cost of work.

[0004] Indeed, due to a lack of maintenance, rust and dirt get into the groove of the plate and over time these stick the plate to the frame or its assembly.

[0005] Access to networks is fundamental for its maintenance or in case of problems.

[0006] I therefore created this device to address this problem.

[0007] The EPE 24 allows the removal of manhole covers without destruction of the structure, without effort and at a lower cost to the community.

[0008] The EPE 24 is composed (see Fig. 1, [Fig. 2], [Fig. 3]) of 2 feet (2) of 58 cm high spaced from 40 cm to 1 m with an IPN type platform (4) on top which connects the 2 feet reinforced by struts (3) under the platform, in the center of this platform there is a lifting jack (5), on this jack, an iron bar (6) of 20 cm is placed with at its end a chain (7) of one meter which joins under the platform with in its center a lifting hook (8).

[0009] I chose feet whose base (1) has a length of 25 cm on a width of 20 cm for a thickness of 2 cm for a good grip on the ground at the time of lifting in order to avoid lifting the entire frame or assembly.

[0010] The feet (2) are 56 cm long, 8 cm wide and 3.5 cm deep. They are made of non-solid galvanized iron for ease of transport while being robust enough to withstand a lifting pressure of at least 800 kg.

[0011] The reinforcing legs (3) have a length of 70 cm, a width of 2.5 cm, and a depth of 2.5 cm.

[0012] The IPN type platform (4) has a length of 115 cm, a width of 10 cm, a height of 5.5 cm and a thickness of 0.5 cm.

[0013] The jack (5) is 42 cm long, 10 cm wide and 10 cm high and can support 1800 kg.

[0014] The chain support bar (6) is solid with a length of 40 cm and a diameter of 2.5 cm.

[0015] The chain (7) has a length of 1 m with links of 5 cm capable of supporting 800 kg of load.

[0016] The hook (8) is made of galvanized iron, it has a length of 7.5 cm, a width of 7 cm and a thickness of 1 cm and can support at least 800 kg.

[0017] The EPE 24 has a total weight of 41 kg, a length of 1 m and a height of 58 cm.

[0018] The device remains easy to transport because it is fully demountable and weighs less than 45 kg.

[0019] We begin by installing the feet on each side of the plate at the mounting hole, then we place the platform onto the feet. Next, we position the reinforcing legs between the base of the feet and the center of the platform.

[0020] Next comes the lifting jack which we place on the center of the platform, then we install the bar on the center of the jack and then we place the hook in the center of the lifting chain which we put at the end of the bar.

[0021] We take the hook to put it in the hook hole of the plate, then we operate the jack gently while carefully checking the installation and the structure of the plate.

1. Device lifts manhole covers without destruction of the structure by a mechanical action characterized in that it comprises: 2 wide feet (l) and the feet (2) are made of galvanized iron, an IPN type platform (4), reinforcing legs (3) made of iron, a pulling lifting system (5), a solid iron support bar (6), a chain (7) capable of supporting 800 kg and a hook (8) capable of supporting at least 800 kg.

2. Device is a unique lifting system with wide feet (l) which supports the frame or assembly (9) of the manhole cover to prevent destruction of the structure.

3. Device is demountable and weighs less than 45 kg.
