Description

Title of the invention: Cordless iron with guiding and locking means. Technical field

[0001] The present exposition relates to the general technical field of laundry care appliances, and more specifically to cordless irons. STATE OF THE ART

[0002] Among laundry care appliances, irons make it possible to remove creases from clothes and fabrics through a combination of heat and pressure.

[0003] Irons may be equipped with a separate base on which the iron's heating soleplate rests when the appliance is not in use. These appliances may have a steam generation function to facilitate ironing. The appliance then includes a reservoir for supplying water to the steam generator. As described in documents EP 2 933 372 and EP 4 242 370, steam irons include means for immobilizing the front part of the iron on the base, thus providing a solution for transporting, storing, and securing the iron. However, these appliances have limited freedom of movement due to the presence of the steam cord between the base and the iron.

[0004] Furthermore, there are cordless irons that allow ironing without the hindrance of a cord, thus offering greater freedom of movement and increased maneuverability. The cordless iron rests on a charging base connected to the electrical grid. The iron includes a water reservoir, a steam chamber, a soleplate, and a heating element positioned in contact with the soleplate. The soleplate of the iron is heated by supplying energy to the heating element via the charging base. US patent 3,745,676 describes such a cordless iron. French patent 2,967,172 also describes a cordless iron, the charging base of which includes a dome-shaped boss on which the soleplate rests when the iron is placed on the base for charging.

[0005] However, the retention of cordless irons on their base is imperfect, particularly during transport and storage of the appliance. GENERAL STATEMENT

[0006] One aim of the present application is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks by proposing a household laundry care appliance with improved safety.

[0007] Another objective of the present application is to propose a household laundry care appliance with easy transport and storage.

[0008] This application relates to a household appliance for laundry care, comprising:

[0009] - a cordless iron comprising a body, a soleplate attached and fixed to the body, and a gripping handle extending from the body,

[0010] - a charging base having a base designed to receive the soleplate of the iron ironing, and

[0011] - guiding and locking means provided for guiding the installation of the The iron is placed on its charging base and secured in a charging position, locking the iron's head and heel in this position. This allows the appliance to be carried by the handle. This makes placing the iron easier for the user and ensures it is positioned more precisely on the charging base. Loading the iron onto the base is also improved. The cordless design offers greater freedom of movement and enhanced maneuverability compared to a steam generator iron with a cord connecting the base to the iron. Furthermore, the appliance's safety is improved, as the iron cannot detach from the charging base during transport or storage, and the entire appliance can be carried as a single unit by the handle.

[0012] The guiding and locking means may include a fin extending rearward from the body of the iron and a cavity formed in the charging base, the cavity having a shape complementary to the fin and being designed to receive the fin so as to guide the placement of the iron on the charging base toward the charging position. The fin helps to hold the iron in position on the charging base when the iron is in the charging position.

[0013] A notch may be formed in the fin, and the charging base may include a locking pin extending from the charging base so as to be received in the notch when the iron is placed on the charging base. This locking pin cooperates with the notch when the iron is in the charging position to prevent the heel of the iron from lifting relative to the charging base when an upward pull is applied to the handle. Thus, the heel of the iron is locked onto the charging base, in contact with the base, when the iron is in the charging position.

[0014] The base can extend substantially within a base plane, the base plane being, for example, inclined towards the cavity, the notch being provided to allow the locking pin to engage in the notch by a recoil movement The iron is positioned in a plane parallel to the base, with a notch designed to prevent the heel of the iron from lifting off the base when the iron is in the charging position. This creates a ramp that guides and secures the iron on the base, and the heel of the iron is locked onto the charging base, making contact with it, when the iron is in the charging position.

[0015] The positioning and locking means may include a locking element attached to and pivotally fixed to the charging base between a folded position in which the locking element releases the iron body, and a locked position in which the locking element engages the iron body, for example, in which the locking element engages the iron head, so as to retain the body between the locking element and the charging base. Thus, the front part of the iron is locked in contact with the charging base when the iron is in the charging position. A household appliance comprising both a notched fin and a locking element is therefore locked in contact with the charging base at its head and heel, which allows the entire appliance to be lifted by the handle.

[0016] The locking element may have the form of a pivotally mounted hoop on the charging base.

[0017] The base can extend substantially within a plane of the base. The base may include at least one roller on which the soleplate of the iron can roll during a recoil movement of the iron in a plane parallel to the plane of the base. The roller(s) facilitate positioning the iron towards the charging position.

[0018] An electrical connector may be provided to supply power to the iron in the charging position. The electrical connector comprises a first part located on the charging base and a second part located at the heel of the iron. The first part of the electrical connector may be arranged so as to be connected to the second part of the electrical connector when the iron is in the charging position, with the tab inserted into the cavity. Thus, the iron is recharged as soon as it is in the charging position, without requiring any action from the user.

[0019] The charging base may further include a pivoting flap designed to be moved by the fin from a closed position to an open position when the iron is placed on the charging base. Opening the pivoting flap allows the iron to be recharged when the iron is in the charging position, and secures the appliance; when the pivoting flap is closed, it prevents access to the first part of the electrical connector, when the fin is not inserted into the cavity.

[0020] The charging base may include a power cord, and the iron may include a heating element designed to heat the soleplate when the power cord is connected to an electrical outlet and the appliance is in the charging position. Thus, the soleplate of the iron is efficiently heated by the supply of electrical power via an electrical outlet. DESCRIPTION OF FIGURES

[0026] A household appliance for laundry care is illustrated by way of non-limiting example in [Fig. 1]. The appliance includes a cordless iron 10 comprising a body 12, a soleplate 13 attached to and fixed to the body 12, and a handle 11 extending from the body 12. The appliance further includes a charging base 20 having a base 21 designed to receive the soleplate 13 of the iron 10.

[0027] The household appliance further includes guiding and locking means 30, 40 intended to guide the placement of the iron 10 on the charging base 20 to a charging position and to lock a head and a heel of the iron 10 in the charging position, so as to allow transport of the household appliance by the gripping handle 11.

[0028] The guiding and locking means 30, 40 guide the placement of the iron 10 onto the charging base 20. Thus, the placement of the iron 10 is facilitated for the user and the iron 10 is positioned more precisely on the charging base 20. The loading of the iron 10 onto the charging base 20 is thereby improved.

[0029] The cordless iron 10 allows greater freedom of ironing and improved maneuverability of the iron 10 compared to a steam generator including a cord connecting the charging base 20 to the iron 10.

[0030] The guiding and locking means 30, 40 lock the head and heel of the iron 10 in the charging position. This improves the safety of using the appliance, as the iron 10 cannot detach from the charging base 20 during transport or storage. The entire appliance can therefore be transported as a single unit, easily, reliably, and securely, using the carrying handle 11.

[0031] In the remainder of the application, an ironing direction coincides with a larger dimension axis of the sole 13. The terms front and rear are defined in relation to the ironing direction, so that when the sole 13 of the iron 10 is conventionally maneuvered in the ironing direction to remove creases from a garment, the front end of the sole 13, at the level of the head of the iron 10, is the first part of the sole 13 to come into contact with the portion of the garment to be ironed, and the rear end of the sole 13, at the level of the heel of the iron 10, is the last part of the sole 13 to come into contact with the portion of the garment to be ironed.

[0032] The iron head 10 refers to a front portion of the iron body 12, in particular a pointed portion designed to allow the user to maneuver the iron 10 in narrow areas and to easily reach corners or folds in garments while ironing. The iron heel 10 refers to a rear portion of the iron body 12, in particular the portion opposite the head, where the iron body 12 is widest.

[0033] The charging base 20 comprises a substantially flat lower surface intended to rest on a horizontal support surface, such as an ironing board or the floor. A height direction corresponds to a direction substantially perpendicular to the lower surface of the charging base 20. An appliance element that is positioned closer to the lower surface of the charging base 20 in the height direction than another element is considered to be positioned below, or lower than, the other element. A length direction corresponds to a projection of the ironing direction onto the plane of the lower surface of the charging base 20 when the iron 10 is placed on the charging base 20, the length direction being perpendicular to the height direction. A width direction corresponds to a direction perpendicular to both the height and length directions.

[0034] The base 21 corresponds to an upper surface of the charging base 20. The base 21 may form a substantially flat face extending substantially in a plane of the base P. The base 21 may have substantially similar dimensions or greater than the dimensions of the sole 13 of the iron 10. Thus, in the charging position, the sole 13 is positioned entirely on the base 21 of the charging base 20, in contact with the base 21, the base 21 forming a support area for the sole 13. Thus, the iron 10 is positioned stably on the charging base 20 in the charging position.

[0035] The base plane P can be inclined, in particular inclined towards the lower surface of the charging base 20, i.e. inclined downwards relative to a horizontal support on which the charging base 20 would be placed. Thus, the base 21 forms a ramp for placing the iron 10 which contributes to better guidance and holding in place of the iron 10 on the charging base 20.

[0036] The charging base 20 further includes a stop 22, forming a rear longitudinal end of the charging base 20. The heel of the iron 10 rests against the stop 22 when the iron 10 is placed on the base 21 of the charging base 20. The stop 22 may have shapes substantially complementary to the shapes of the heel of the iron 10, in order to hold the heel stably in place when the iron 10 is in the charging position.

[0037] The charging base 20 may further include a power cord, not visible in the figures, allowing the charging base 20 to be connected to the domestic electrical network.

[0038] The iron 10 may include a heating element designed to heat the soleplate 13 when the power cord is connected to an electrical outlet and the appliance is in operation in the charging position. Thus, the soleplate 13 of the iron 10 is efficiently heated by the supply of electrical energy via an electrical outlet. The heating element may include a resistor, in particular a heating element regulated by a thermostat, a coil for induction heating, or any other element enabling heating. The heating element may be attached to the soleplate 13, in contact with the soleplate 13. The heating element may include a vaporization chamber arranged to be heated by the resistor. In particular, the heating element may be a casting, for example made of aluminum, comprising the resistor and the vaporization chamber.

[0039] The iron 10 includes a water reservoir and a drip valve for supplying water from the reservoir to the steaming chamber. The opening of the drip valve, and thus the amount of water supplied by gravity to the steaming chamber, is controlled by a trigger 15 located under the handle 11. The water reservoir may be integrated into the iron 10, or removable to facilitate refilling the iron 10.

[0040] The iron 10 is used for example for horizontal and / or vertical ironing.

[0041] The gripping handle 11 can extend substantially above the body 12 of the iron 10, opposite the soleplate 13 with respect to the body 12. The body 12 and the gripping handle 11 of the iron 10 can be attached and fixed to each other, or be formed as a single unit, for example, they can be made from a single piece of plastic material obtained by molding.

[0042] The soleplate 13 may include a substantially flat ironing surface, which corresponds to the support surface of the soleplate 13 on the base 21 of the charging base 20. The soleplate 13 may include at least one steam outlet 130 passing through the ironing surface and adapted to allow the steam produced in the vaporization chamber to escape. The soleplate 13 may be made of stainless steel. The soleplate 13 may include a pointed front end and a rounded rear end wider than the front end, for improved ironing ergonomics.

[0043] The guiding and locking means 30, 40 may include a fin 31 extending rearward from the body 12 of the iron 10 and a cavity 32 formed in the charging base 20. The cavity 32 has a shape complementary to the fin 31 and is designed to receive the fin 31 so as to guide the placement of the iron 10 on the charging base 20 toward the charging position. In addition, the fin 31 inserted into the cavity 32 helps to hold the iron 10 in position on the charging base 20 when the iron 10 is in the charging position.

[0044] The fin 31 may have a substantially flat wall extending mainly vertically and towards the rear of the iron 10. A shape of the heel of the iron 10 may be adapted so as to provide a receiving space for the fin 31 under a rearmost end of the iron 10, without the fin 31 protruding rearward from the rearmost end of the iron 10.

[0045] The cavity 32 extends into the stop 22 of the charging base 20. The cavity 32 can form a narrow, elongated slot-like opening extending along a principal direction that can be substantially inclined downwards with respect to a horizontal support on which the charging base 20 would be placed, in particular substantially parallel to a direction of inclination of the base plane P of the base 21 of the charging base 20. A width of the slot in the cavity 32 can correspond substantially to a width of the fin 31, so that the fin 31 is held in place between the walls of the cavity 32 in contact with the walls of the cavity 32 when the fin 31 is inserted into the cavity 32. Thus, the fin 31 fits perfectly into the cavity 32 when the iron 10 is placed on the charging base 20.

[0046] Alternatively or in addition, the household appliance may include any other means of guiding and locking the iron 10 on the charging base 20 in the charging position, for example magnetic means carried by the heel of the iron 10 and the charging base 20, mechanical fasteners of the heel of the iron 10 on the charging base 20, snap-on means of the heel of the iron 10 on the charging base 20, etc.

[0047] An electrical connector 50 provides power to the iron 10 in the charging position, and in particular can provide power to the heating element integrated into the heating element of the iron 10. The electrical connector 50 comprises a first part disposed on the charging base 20 and a second part disposed at the heel of the iron 10. The second part of the electrical connector 50 can be a plug extending rearward from the body 12 of the iron 10, for example next to the fin 31 and substantially parallel to the fin 31. The second part of the electrical connector 50 can comprise three contacts of the electrical connector 50, the contacts being parallel to each other and each extending rearward from the body 12 of the iron 10.

[0048] Like the fin 31, the second part of the electrical connector 50 can extend into the receiving space of the fin 31 located under the rearmost end of the iron 10, without protruding rearward beyond the rearmost end of the iron 10. The first part of the electrical connector 50 is arranged so as to be connected to the first part of the electrical connector 50 when the iron 10 is in the charging position, with the fin 31 inserted into the cavity 32. Thus, the iron 10 is charged as soon as it is in the charging position, without requiring any action from the user. Preferably, the electrical connector 50 includes magnetic means, such as a magnet, which generate a force that tends to connect the first and second parts of the electrical connector 50 when the iron approaches the charging position.

[0049] The first part of the connector 50 can be received in a connector cavity 35 formed in the charging base 20, in particular extending into the stop 22 of the charging base 20. The connector cavity 35 can extend for example next to and parallel to the receiving cavity 32 of the fin 31.

[0050] The charging base 20 may further include a pivoting flap designed to be moved by the fin 31 from a closed position to an open position when the iron 10 is placed on the charging base 20. The pivoting flap may extend at least partially into the cavity 32 and into the connector cavity 35. Thus, placing the fin 31 into the cavity 32 causes the opening of the The pivoting flap allows the first and second parts of the electrical connector 50 of the iron 10 to connect and supply electrical power to the iron 50, specifically to the heating element of the iron 10. The heating element is then heated when the iron 10 is in the charging position. Conversely, when the iron 10 is in the ironing position, i.e., when the fin 31 is withdrawn from the cavity 32, the pivoting flap is automatically closed by return means, for example, a spring, separating the first and second parts of the electrical connector 50 and thus depriving the heating element of the iron 10 of electrical power. Furthermore, the pivoting flap is closed, preventing access to the first part of the electrical connector 50.

[0051] A notch 33 can be formed in the fin 31, as illustrated by way of non-limiting example in [Fig.1] and in [Fig.3]. The charging base 20 includes a locking pin 34 extending outward from the charging base 20 so as to be received in the notch 33 when the iron 10 is placed on the charging base 20. The locking pin 34 cooperates with the notch 33 when the iron 10 is in the charging position to prevent the heel of the iron 10 from lifting relative to the charging base 20 when an upward pull is exerted on the grip handle 11. Thus, the heel of the iron 10 is locked onto the charging base 20, in contact with the charging base 20, when the iron 10 is in the charging position. The cooperation between the notch 33 and the locking pin 34 prevents the rear part, i.e. the heel, of the iron 10 from moving vertically away from the base 21 against which it rests.

[0052] The notch 33 may correspond to a bore formed in the fin 31. The notch 33 may be formed at a rear edge of the fin 31, on a portion of the rear edge of the fin 31, and may extend longitudinally forward from the rear edge of the fin 31. The notch 33 may be designed to allow engagement of the locking pin 34 by a recoil movement of the iron 10 in a plane parallel to the base plane P, i.e., a rearward translational movement of the iron 10, for example, in a plane parallel to the base plane P inclined downwards. The notch 33 shown in Figures 1 and 4 has a substantially rectangular shape. However, in an alternative embodiment not shown, the notch 33 may have a substantially triangular shape, with edges which diverge towards the open end of the notch 33 to facilitate the insertion of the locking pin 34 into the notch 33 when the recoil movement of the iron 10 is not carried out in a plane perfectly parallel to the plane of the base P.

[0053] The locking pin 34 can extend into the receiving cavity 32 of the fin 31, near the cavity 32, above the receiving cavity 32 of the fin 31, or in any other position where it can fit into the notch 33 of the fin 31 when the iron 10 is placed in the charging position. In the example illustrated in [Fig. 1] and [Fig. 4], the locking pin 34 is positioned above the cavity 32 and extends substantially forward. When the iron 10 is placed in the charging position, the locking pin 34 is engaged in the notch 33. The locking pin 34 forms an upper stop preventing the heel of the iron 10 from being lifted relative to the base 21 of the charging base 20 which forms a lower stop for the iron 10.

[0054] The mounting and locking means 30, 40 may include at least two fins 31, or any conceivable number of fins 31. At least one fin 31 includes a notch 33; it is not necessary for all the fins 31 to be notched. A number of cavities 32 corresponding at least to the number of fins 31 is formed in the charging base 20. A number of locking pins 34 corresponding to the number of fins 31 with notches 33 extend in projection from the charging base 20 so that each is received in a corresponding notch 33 when the iron 10 is placed on the charging base 20. The fins 31 can be oriented parallel to each other and separated by a predetermined distance, and the two cavities 32 are also oriented parallel to each other and separated by the same predetermined distance. The cavities 32 for receiving the fins 31 can be located on either side of one or more connector cavities 35 adapted to receive the first part of the connector 50.

[0055] Figures 1 and 4 illustrate such an example of a household appliance comprising an iron 10 having two fins 31, the second part of the connector 50 being housed between the two fins 31 and comprising three contacts. The charging base 20 comprises two lateral cavities 32, with two locking pins 34 located above the two lateral cavities 32. Each of the two lateral cavities 32 receives a corresponding fin 31. The charging base 20 further comprises three central connector cavities 35 located between the two lateral cavities 32. The lateral cavities 32 are thus arranged on either side of the central connector cavities 35. Each of the three central connector cavities 35 receives a corresponding contact of the second part of the connector 50.The first part of connector 50 comprises three elements, each housed in a respective central connector cavity 35, so as to connect to the three contacts of the second part of connector 50 when the iron 10 is in the charging position.

[0056] The base 21 may include one or more rollers 210 on which the soleplate 13 of the iron 10 can roll during the recoil movement of the iron 10 in a plane parallel to the plane of the base P. In particular, as illustrated by way of non-limiting example in [Fig. 1] and [Fig. 4], the base 21 may include a front roller 210 and two rear rollers 210 projecting from the upper surface of the base 21. The rollers 210 are mounted to rotate freely about an axis oriented along the width direction, so that the soleplate 13 of the iron 10 rolls backward on the rollers 210 when the iron 10 is moved into the charging position. Thus, the rollers 210 facilitate moving the iron 10 into the charging position.

[0057] The assembly and locking means 30, 40 may further include a locking element 40 attached and pivotally fixed on the charging base 20 between a folded position in which the locking element 40 releases the body 12 of the iron 10, and a locking position in which the locking element 40 engages the body 12 of the iron 10, for example in which the locking element 40 engages the head of the iron 10, so as to retain the body 12 between the locking element 40 and the charging base 20.

[0058] Thus, the front part, i.e., the head, of the iron 10 is locked onto the charging base 20, in contact with the charging base 20, when the iron 10 is in the charging position. A household appliance comprising both a fin 31 with a notch 33 and a locking element 40 as described above is therefore locked in contact with the charging base 20 at its head and heel when the iron 10 is in the charging position. This allows the entire household appliance, i.e., the iron 10 and the charging base 20, to be lifted when the user grasps the handle 11.

[0059] The locking element 40 may have the form of a pivotally mounted hoop on the charging base 20. The hoop 40 is a simple and reliable mechanical means of ensuring the locking of the iron head 10 in contact with the charging base 20.

[0060] In the locked position, the arch 40 can extend into contact with an upper surface of the iron head 10. The arch 40 forms an upper stop preventing the iron head 10 from being lifted relative to the base 21 of the charging base 20, which forms a lower stop for the iron 10.

[0061] The hoop 40 may have a substantially triangular shape conforming to the contour of a front edge of the charging base 20. The hoop 40 may pivot between the folded position, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in [Fig. 1], and a locked position, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in [Fig. 2]. In the folded position, the hoop 40 may be engaged in a receiving groove formed on the front edge of the charging base 20, being positioned parallel to the base plan P of the charging base 20, for example in the extension of the upper surface forming the base 21 of the charging base 20, attached to the upper surface at the front of the base 21. In the locked position, the hoop 40 rests against the upper surface of the body 12 of the iron 10 at the front part of the iron 10.

[0062] The hoop 40 may include a flexible portion molded into the hollow part of the hoop 40 that comes into contact with the body 12 of the iron 10 when the hoop 40 is in the locked position. The hoop 40 may be made of a plastic piece comprising two arms defining a shape substantially resembling an inverted V. The two arms of the V are connected by a spacer inserted into two openings in tabs arranged inside the charging base 20. The spacer extends substantially in the width direction corresponding to a pivot axis of the hoop 40.

[0063] The charging base 20 may include a manual release device for the hoop 40, operated by means of a button. Activating the release button then allows the user to fold the hoop 40 into the folded position. Alternatively, the charging base 20 may include return means that exert a return torque on the hoop 40, the direction of which reverses when the iron 10 passes through an intermediate position between the ironing position and the charging position. This return torque returns the hoop 40 to the folded position when the iron 10 is near the ironing position, and returns the hoop 40 to the locked position when the iron 10 is near the charging position. Thus, the locking and unlocking of the hoop 40 is automatic and requires no manual action from the user.More specifically, the return means may include a spring, for example two helical torsion springs arranged near a lower end of each of the arms of the hoop 40. Each spring then comprises a first end connected to the charging base 20 and a second end connected to a corresponding arm of the hoop 40. Such return means are illustrated in more detail in patent application FR 1 452 469 filed by the applicant.

[0064] Although the present description has been made with reference to specific embodiments, modifications and changes may be made to these examples without departing from their general scope. In particular, individual features of the various embodiments illustrated / mentioned may be combined in additional embodiments.
