Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: DEVICE FOR EXPOSING A USER'S SKIN TO A LIGHT OR INFRARED RADIATION TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a device for exposing a user's skin to light or infrared radiation. This device is used in phototherapy treatments, that is, exposing the user to light for therapeutic purposes. In a particular configuration, the device is designed to treat the user by exposing acupuncture points to light or infrared radiation. STATE OF THE ART
[0002] The prior art knows of practices and devices aimed at stimulating points traditionally stimulated in acupuncture treatment but without the use of needles. These practices include acupressure, which consists of pressure applied by the therapist, pen acupuncture, which consists of the use of an electrical stimulation device, and laser acupuncture, which consists of the use of a laser radiation source manipulated by hand by the practitioner to stimulate acupuncture points in order to obtain a therapeutic effect, such as pain reduction.
[0003] One claimed advantage of these alternatives to acupuncture is that they achieve results equivalent to those of acupuncture but without the use of needles, which may be unpleasant for the person being treated or pose a risk of infection. However, these methods have the drawback that acupuncture points must be stimulated one by one during a treatment session. For example, in the case of laser acupuncture, the practitioner holds the laser beam in their hand and must apply it successively to each of the points targeted during the treatment, unlike traditional acupuncture treatment, which allows for the simultaneous stimulation of multiple points by inserting as many acupuncture needles as necessary.Alternatively, the practitioner can use a device with a laser beam emitter connected to multiple optical fibers, but in this case, it is not possible to modulate the power and frequency of the emitted radiation for each individual fiber. Furthermore, these systems tend to be impractical because the multitude of optical fibers, for example 15 to 20 fibers, take up space and become entangled.
[0004] The applicant company identified a need to offer a new type of phototherapy treatment device, for example, as an alternative to acupuncture, but also useful for complementary sports medicine. SUBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The present invention aims to provide an improved device for treating a user with phototherapy. In a particular embodiment, the invention aims to provide a device for performing an alternative treatment to acupuncture. The present invention notably aims to offer a more versatile and user-friendly device than those available on the market, allowing, for example, the application of light sources to the user's skin, preferably at several points simultaneously. The present invention also aims, as a secondary feature, at a sanitary cap system enabling practical use of the device under optimal hygiene conditions.
[0006] To this end, according to a first aspect, the invention relates to a device for exposing the skin of a user to light or infrared radiation, which comprises at least one radiation source, the at least one radiation source comprising a head having at least one light-emitting diode, said head being configured to be fixed in place in contact with the skin, the device further comprising at least one cable configured to be connected with the head on the one hand and to be connected with a base on the other hand and said base comprising a current source and / or a control means, so that the connection between the base and the at least one radiation source by the at least one cable allows the power supply of the at least one light-emitting diode and / or the transfer of computer data controlling the light intensity emitted by the at least one light-emitting diode.
[0007] The use of light-emitting diodes, which are much more compact and lightweight than a laser radiation source, makes it possible to provide a compact radiation source, small and light enough to allow it to be fixed in place in contact with the skin. Thus, the practitioner can place the radiation source(s) on the user's skin and secure them with adhesive tape. Thanks to these arrangements, treatments requiring the stimulation of a point on the skin over a prolonged period, for example, a few minutes, can be implemented. Preferably, a plurality of radiation sources are positioned and fixed in place at different points on the user's skin in order to stimulate these different points simultaneously.
[0008] Preferably, the radiation source comprises a single light-emitting diode, which makes it possible to obtain a particularly compact radiation source.
[0009] In embodiments, the head is removable and has a connection port configured to connect the cable with the removable head.
[0010] According to this embodiment, the heads of the radiation sources are removable, which offers an advantage in terms of versatility. Indeed, removable heads of various types, with different shapes adapted to different treatments, and / or light-emitting diodes emitting radiation at different wavelengths, can be provided to the practitioner. Thus, the same base and cables can be used with different removable heads to perform different treatments.
[0011] For example, a particular removable head has a suitable shape and includes a clip so as to be attached to a user's ear. For example, a removable head, such as the one described in this application, is suitable for being placed against the skin. In another example, the removable head has the shape of a pad, that is, a flexible element of substantially flat shape configured to be placed against the skin. Such a pad may include a plurality of light-emitting diodes, for example, between 2 and 6 diodes, and may have dimensions of approximately 5 to 20 centimeters in height, 4 to 10 centimeters in width, and 0.5 to 3 centimeters in thickness.
[0012] In some embodiments, the device comprises a plurality of heads and at least one cable comprises: - a primary cable segment having one end configured to be connected to the base, - a plurality of secondary cable segments resulting from the subdivision of the primary segment and each secondary segment has an end configured to be connected to the connection port of a removable head.
[0013] Thanks to these arrangements, cable bulk is reduced. For example, a single cable with four secondary segments, each configured to be connected to a head, replaces four cables. This configuration facilitates the practitioner's work without compromising the effectiveness of the treatment. Indeed, several acupuncture points are located in the same area of the body and usually need to be stimulated simultaneously.
[0014] In embodiments, at least one radiation source comprises a surface configured to be positioned in contact with the user's skin and at least one light diffuser configured to transmit the emitted light by at least one light-emitting diode towards the user's skin, said diffuser forming a relief in relation to said surface.
[0015] Thus, once positioned on the skin and the radiation source secured in place, for example with adhesive tape, the diffuser presses lightly against the user's skin. This arrangement concentrates the light exposure at a precise point on the skin and ensures that there is no gap between the diffuser and the skin surface during use. When such a gap exists, the light diffuses into the air, reducing the light intensity received by the skin. The diffuser protruding from the surface designed to be positioned in contact with the skin prevents this diffusion effect.
[0016] In some embodiments, at least one radiation source includes a sanitary cap configured to cover at least part of the surface of the removable head. For example, the sanitary cap is a flexible, transparent plastic pouch into which the head of the radiation source is inserted.
[0017] Thanks to these provisions, the transmission of pathogen from one user to another can be avoided by replacing the sanitary cap between two successive uses.
[0018] In some embodiments, the sanitary cap is a rigid element. Preferably, the radiation source includes a reversible means for attaching the sanitary cap to the head. For example, the sanitary cap is made of plastic and its shape is complementary to, or matches, that of the head, so that the cap and the head can be held in place. Preferably, a fastening means such as a clip, a hook, or a magnetic fastener is provided for securing the cap to the head.
[0019] Advantageously the rigid cap is a reusable cap configured to be washed between two uses.
[0020] In embodiments, the fastening means comprises at least one notch and at least one relief, provided on the sanitary cap and on the removable head, configured to cooperate with each other to establish a clip fastening between the sanitary cap and the removable head.
[0021] Thanks to these arrangements, the head and the sanitary cap can be reversibly attached to each other. It is emphasized that the relief and the notch can be formed respectively on the sanitary cap and the removable head, or vice versa.
[0022] In embodiments, the removable head includes an optical fiber configured to conduct the light or infrared radiation emitted by the light-emitting diode.
[0023] In some embodiments, the connection port is a USB port, preferably a USB type-A connector or a USB-C connector.
[0024] According to a second aspect, the invention relates to a radiation source for exposing a human or animal body to light or infrared radiation, which comprises a removable head having at least one light-emitting diode and a connection port, said connection port being configured to be connected via a cable to a base having a current source and / or a control means, so that the connection between the base and the radiation source by the cable allows the power supply of the light-emitting diode and / or the transfer of computer data controlling the light intensity emitted by the light-emitting diode.
[0025] In other embodiments, the technical characteristics described above concerning the radiation source of the device of the invention may be implemented for the radiation source of the invention. In particular, the radiation source(s) may be associated with a cable subdivided into a plurality of secondary segments, the radiation source(s) may include removable heads, and the radiation source(s) may include sanitary caps.
[0026] The purposes, advantages and special characteristics of the radiation source that is the subject of the present invention being similar to those of the device that is the subject of the present invention, they are not recalled here. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

[0039] The base 180 includes a switch 185 and a plurality of USB type-A ports 190, each configured to be connected to one end of a cable 150. The base 180 includes one or more cables configured to be connected to the connection port of at least one removable head 130, 230 on the one hand and to be connected to the base 180 on the other hand.
[0040] The base 180 comprises a power source and a control means, such that the connection between the base 180 and at least one radiation source via a cable allows the power supply to a light-emitting diode (LED) mounted on the radiation source and the transfer of computer data controlling the light intensity emitted by said LED. Advantageously, the control means is configured to control the light intensity emitted by each LED or group of LEDs. In some embodiments, the LEDs emit light flashes; in this case, the control means is configured to control the frequency and duration of the light flashes.
[0041] Preferably, each cable comprises a primary segment 150 of cable having an end configured to be electrically connected to the base 180 and a plurality of secondary segments 161, 162, 163, 164 of cable resulting from the subdivision of the primary segment and joined by an intermediate piece 155 which allows the distribution of electrical wires between the secondary segments to be concealed. Each secondary segment 161, 162, 163, 164 of cable has an end 171, 172, 173, 174 configured to be connected with the connection port 132, 232, 332, of a removable head 130, 230, 330.
[0042] The device 10 comprises one or preferably several radiation sources configured to be positioned in contact with the skin of a user. In an embodiment not shown, a radiation source comprises a light-emitting diode permanently fixed to the end of a cable, subdivided or not, and secondary segments.
[0043] At least one light-emitting diode (LED) is preferably configured to emit radiation in a wavelength range between 400 nanometers (nm) and 950 nm. For example, all or part of the LEDs are configured to emit blue light radiation with a wavelength between 450 nm and 490 nm, red light radiation with a wavelength between 600 nm and 670 nm, or near-infrared light radiation with a wavelength between 820 nm and 860 nm.
[0044] Preferably, and as illustrated in Figures 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6, the radiation source comprises a removable head 130, 230, or 330 having at least one light-emitting diode and a connection port 132, 232, or 332. For illustrative purposes, a removable head 130 configured to be placed against a user's skin and a removable head 230 having an optical fiber are shown in [Fig. 1] in position to be connected to the subdivided end of the cable. It should be noted, however, that under normal operating conditions, removable heads of the same type will usually be used. The characteristics of the removable heads will be better understood from the description in Figures 3, 4, 5, and 6.
[0045] A first particular embodiment of a radiation source comprising a removable head 130 is observed in [Fig.3]. The removable head 130 has a female USB-C type connection port 132 configured to be electrically connected to the male USB-C type connection port 172 of a cable segment 162.
[0046] The internal components of the removable head, which include at least one light-emitting diode, are protected by a casing 135, preferably made of plastic. The removable head is small enough to be easily handled and placed against the user's skin and secured in place with adhesive tape. The dimensions of the removable head are, for example, between 2 and 5 centimeters (cm) in length, between 2 and 4 cm in width, and between 1 and 4 centimeters in height. The weight of the removable head 130 preferably does not exceed 150 grams, and preferably does not exceed 120 grams.
[0047] The removable head has a substantially flat surface 138, which is configured to be pressed against the user's skin. Advantageously, a light diffuser 136 transmitting light from a light-emitting diode protrudes from the substantially flat surface 138, so as to form a raised area. Thus, when the surface 138 is pressed against the skin, it blocks out external light. Furthermore, the protruding position of the diffuser 136 allows direct contact between the diffuser and the skin, which ensures better transmission of light to the skin, without loss through an air gap separating the diffuser from the skin.
[0048] Advantageously, the face of the removable head opposite the face having the substantially flat surface 138 configured to be applied against the user's skin is also substantially flat or rounded. This facilitates the application of an adhesive strip to the removable head that connects it to the user's skin.
[0049] A second particular embodiment of a radiation source comprising a removable head 230 is observed in [Fig.4]. The removable head 230 has a female USB-C type connection port configured to be electrically connected to a connection port of a male USB-C type cable 162.
[0050] The removable head 230 comprises a light-emitting diode housed within a plastic casing 235. The removable head 230 further comprises an optical fiber 236, one end of which is attached to the light-emitting diode so as to transmit the light it emits to the other end. When using a device of the invention with such a removable head, the optical fiber is positioned at predetermined points on the user's skin. An adhesive strip or any other fastening means may be used to hold the optical fiber in place against the user's skin.
[0051] A third particular embodiment of a radiation source comprising a removable head 330 is observed in [Fig.5] and [Fig.6]. The removable head 330 comprises a connection port 332, a shell 335, a surface 338 and a diffuser 336 which are respectively similar to the elements 232, 235, 238 and 236 described opposite [Fig.3].
[0052] The radiation source illustrated in [Fig. 5] and [Fig. 6] differs from that illustrated in [Fig. 3] in that it is associated with a sanitary cap 340 configured to cover at least part of the surface of the removable head. The sanitary cap is removable and configured to be reversibly attached to the head 330 for the duration of a treatment for a user. The sanitary cap is then removed and possibly replaced with another for the next user. Preferably, the sanitary cap 340 is made of plastic. Advantageously, the casing 335 has two notches 339 adapted to cooperate with two raised areas 349 provided on the sanitary cap 340 so as to clip the head 330 and the sanitary cap 340 together.
[0053] The sanitary cap 340 preferably takes the form of an open, flat-bottomed container, comprising a surface forming the bottom of the container and having a rim 343 configured to have a shape complementary to that of the removable head. This surface has two faces: a first face 347 configured to be in contact with the substantially flat surface 338 on the removable head 330, and a second face 348 intended to be placed against the user's skin.
[0054] The sanitary cap has a transparent portion aligned with the diffuser 336 of the removable head when the removable head and the sanitary cap are mounted one on top of the other. In some embodiments, the sanitary cap as a whole is formed from a transparent plastic.
[0055] Preferably, the sanitary cap has a blind hole 344 positioned in alignment with the diffuser 336 projecting out of the removable head 330. The size of the blind hole 344 is adapted to house the diffuser 336 so that the diffuser 336 is housed in the blind hole 344 when the removable head and the sanitary cap are mounted on top of each other.
[0056] Advantageously, the sanitary cap has a raised surface 348 on its second face 348, which is intended to be placed against the user's skin. The raised surface 348 is formed by the face opposite the face that forms the bottom of the blind hole 344. The raised surface 348 is made of a transparent material and configured to transmit the light emitted by the light-emitting diode. The raised surface 348 protrudes beyond the surface 348, thus allowing for better diffusion of the light from the light-emitting diode to the user's skin, preventing the presence of an air gap.
