AI Technical Summary
Existing motor vehicle brake pedal assemblies suffer from noise transmission through large cutouts in the apron, which compromises acoustic performance due to insufficient soundproofing, particularly where the brake amplifier actuating rod passes through, leading to increased noise perception in the passenger compartment.
An acoustic attenuation assembly is introduced, featuring an acoustic attenuation device radially connecting the brake pedal bracket and brake amplifier actuating rod, incorporating acoustic attenuation material to close the cavity and provide dual levels of sound wave attenuation.
The assembly effectively reduces noise transmission through the cavity, enhancing the vehicle's acoustic performance by providing additional soundproofing beyond the existing sheet metal housing, thus improving the overall acoustic treatment of the passenger compartment.

Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Acoustic attenuation assembly for a motor vehicle brake pedal assembly and vehicle comprising such an assembly technical field
[0001] The invention relates to the field of motor vehicles, in particular to the acoustic field of motor vehicles.
[0002] The invention relates more particularly to the field of acoustic treatment of the passenger compartment bulkhead at the level of the bulkhead area receiving the vehicle's brake pedal assembly.
[0003] More particularly, the invention relates to an acoustic attenuation assembly for a motor vehicle brake pedal assembly.
[0004] The invention also relates to a motor vehicle comprising such an acoustic attenuation assembly. Previous technique
[0005] A motor vehicle body structure comprises a set of sheet metal structural elements that provide rigidity to the motor vehicle, assembled together and forming the frame of the motor vehicle.
[0006] Among these structural sheet metal elements, the body structure includes an apron, behind which is the vehicle's passenger compartment and in front of which is the engine compartment.
[0007] To limit the noise perceptible in the passenger compartment from the engine compartment, the bulkhead can be covered with a sound-absorbing mat positioned behind the bulkhead relative to the vehicle. The sound-absorbing mat is, for example, made of a layer of elastic material such as foam covered with a heavy mass, thus creating a mass-spring-mass system that dampens sound waves between the exterior of the vehicle and the passenger compartment.
[0008] At the passenger compartment level, the apron supports a set of components, including the dashboard, the steering wheel, the brake pedal assembly, wiring harnesses, etc.
[0009] The integration of these elements for support by the apron requires making cuts in the apron.
[0010] In order to provide good acoustic treatment, it is necessary that each component in place in the deck plugs the cutouts and covers each layer of the deck, i.e. the deck sheet and the soundproofing mat.
[0011] Among the components supported by the apron, the brake pedal assembly includes a clevis and a brake pedal supported by the clevis and operable by the driver from the passenger compartment.
[0012] The brake pedal bracket is fixed to the apron by means of fixing bushings receiving threaded rods passing through the apron.
[0013] The apron soundproofing mat is sandwiched between the apron sheet metal and the brake pedal assembly, which helps to reduce the noise that passes through the fixing barrels.
[0014] To improve the braking performance of the vehicle's braking system, some vehicles are equipped with a brake booster, also called a brake booster or "ebooster." The brake booster comprises a sheet metal housing and, mounted on the housing, an actuating rod for a hydraulic control unit. This actuator is pressed against the brake pedal when the driver applies the brake pedal. Activating the hydraulic control unit sends hydraulic fluid into a braking circuit of the braking system, thus improving the vehicle's braking performance without requiring the driver to apply more pressure to the brake pedal.
[0015] The brake booster housing is fixed to the vehicle bulkhead and is arranged on the engine compartment side, while the actuating rod extends on the vehicle passenger compartment side, in front of the brake pedal and into a cavity in the brake pedal bracket.
[0016] Thus, the arrangement of the brake amplifier in the vehicle requires a cutout in the apron.
[0017] This cutout is closed at the level of the apron only by the brake amplifier housing; no soundproofing mat can be installed there. Thus, at the level of the central cavity of the brake pedal bracket receiving the brake amplifier actuating rod, acoustic attenuation is achieved only by the sheet metal housing of the brake amplifier.
[0018] Thus, noises from the engine compartment are more noticeable in the passenger compartment, thus negatively impacting the acoustic performance of the vehicle.
[0019] In addition, the size of the cut made in the apron is large enough so that the cut is suitable for amplifiers from different suppliers and having different dimensions.
[0020] However, the larger the size of the cutout, the greater the difficulty in closing it acoustically. Description of the invention
[0021] The present invention aims to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks, and to this end relates to an acoustic attenuation assembly for a motor vehicle brake pedal assembly, comprising: - a bulkhead of the body structure of said motor vehicle, behind which a passenger compartment is arranged and in front of which an engine compartment of said motor vehicle is arranged, - a brake pedal assembly, including a bracket adapted to support a brake pedal operable from said passenger compartment, said bracket being fixed to said firewall and extending into said passenger compartment, - a brake amplifier, comprising an actuating rod for a hydraulic control of a braking system of said vehicle passing through a cutout made in said apron and extending into a cavity of said bracket, said assembly being notable in that it includes an acoustic attenuation device radially connecting said bracket of said brake pedal assembly and said actuating rod of said brake amplifier, said acoustic attenuation device comprising an acoustic attenuation material suitable for attenuating the sound waves that pass through it.
[0022] Thus, by providing an acoustic attenuation device radially linking the brake pedal bracket and the brake amplifier actuating rod, the cavity of the brake pedal bracket is closed by the acoustic attenuation device.
[0023] The fact that the acoustic attenuation device includes an acoustic attenuation material suitable for attenuating the sound waves that pass through it makes it possible to attenuate the noise passing through the cavity of the screed and transmitted through the cutout of the deck.
[0024] In this way, compared to the prior art, the noise coming from the engine compartment and perceived in the passenger compartment is reduced, which makes it possible to improve the acoustic performance of the vehicle.
[0025] According to optional features of the acoustic attenuation assembly according to the invention: - said acoustic attenuation device comprises a closing disc extending radially into said cavity and an acoustic sealing lip arranged between said closing disc and said actuating rod of said brake amplifier; - said closure disc extends radially from an outer edge of said cavity towards the inside of said cavity; - said closing disc is an integral part of said brake pedal bracket; - said closing disc consists of an added part fixed to said clevis of said brake pedal assembly; - said brake pedal bracket includes a clipping interface for said closing disc and said closing disc is fixed by clipping onto said brake pedal bracket; - said closing disc consists of a flat surface.
[0026] The invention also relates to a motor vehicle, comprising an acoustic attenuation assembly for a brake pedal assembly of said motor vehicle, remarkable in that said acoustic attenuation assembly is according to the invention. Brief description of the drawings
[0027] Other features, purposes and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, for the understanding of which reference should be made to the accompanying drawings in which:
[0028] [Fig-1] partially shows a motor vehicle seen in perspective from the interior of a motor vehicle's passenger compartment.
[0029] [Fig.2] is a perspective view of an assembly comprising a brake pedal assembly and a brake amplifier.
[0030] [Fig.3] is a longitudinal section view of the acoustic attenuation assembly according to the invention. Description of the implementation methods
[0031] In the following description, elements having an identical structure or analogous functions are designated by the same reference.
[0032] By convention, and without limitation, longitudinal, vertical and transverse orientations will be adopted as indicated by the direct trihedron (L, V, T) designating the longitudinal, vertical and transverse axes of the vehicle.
[0033] In what follows, the terms "left", "right", "lower" and "upper" are understood in relation to the vehicle.
[0034] Similarly, the terms "front" and "rear" are understood in relation to the general orientation of the vehicle as taken in its normal direction of travel.
[0035] Reference is made to [Fig.1] partially showing a motor vehicle 1 seen in perspective from inside a passenger compartment 3 of the motor vehicle 1.
[0036] The vehicle 1 includes an acoustic attenuation assembly 5 according to the invention, designed to attenuate noise passing through a brake pedal assembly 7 of the vehicle 1 and originating from an engine compartment (not shown).
[0037] The acoustic attenuation assembly 5 comprises a sheet metal apron 9, belonging to a vehicle body structure 1. The apron 9 delimits the engine compartment, arranged at the front of the apron 9, from the passenger compartment 3 arranged at the rear of the apron 9.
[0038] The apron 9 can be covered with a soundproofing mat 11 arranged behind the apron 9 designed to limit the noise perceptible in the passenger compartment 3 coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle 1.
[0039] The apron 9 supports a set of vehicle components that can be accessed from the passenger compartment 3.
[0040] Among these elements, assembly 5 includes the brake pedal assembly 7, comprising a brake pedal 13 operable by the driver from the passenger compartment 3.
[0041] The assembly 5 further comprises a brake amplifier 15 (visible in [Fig.2]) designed to improve the braking quality of the vehicle 1 braking system.
[0042] Reference is made to [Fig.2] which shows an assembly comprising the brake pedal 7 and the brake amplifier 15.
[0043] The brake booster 15 includes a sheet metal housing 17 extending into the engine compartment of the vehicle 1.
[0044] The brake booster 15 includes an actuating rod 19 of a hydraulic control, carried by the housing 17, on which the brake pedal 13 presses when pressure is exerted on the brake pedal 13, for example when the driver operates the brake pedal 13.
[0045] The brake pedal assembly 7 further includes a clevis 21 designed to support the brake pedal 13.
[0046] The clevis 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7 is fixed to the apron 9, for example by means of fixing bushings receiving threaded rods passing through the apron 9.
[0047] The soundproofing mat 11 of the apron 9 is sandwiched between the apron 9 and the brake pedal assembly 7, which helps to reduce the noise that passes through the fixing barrels.
[0048] Reference is made to [Fig.3], which is a longitudinal section view of the assembly 5 passing through the actuating rod 19 of the brake amplifier 15.
[0049] A cutout 23 is made in the apron 9 and has a shape and dimensions capable of allowing the actuating rod 19 of the brake amplifier 5 to pass through. At the level of the apron 9, the cutout 23 is closed on the engine compartment side by the housing 17 of the brake amplifier 15.
[0050] The actuating rod 19 of the brake booster 15 is carried by the housing 17, passes through the cutout 23 and extends on the side of the passenger compartment 3.
[0051] More particularly, the actuating rod 19 extends into a cavity 25 of the yoke 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7, the cavity 25 of the yoke 21 being substantially aligned with the cutout 23.
[0052] According to the invention, the assembly 5 comprises an acoustic attenuation device 27 including an acoustic attenuation material suitable for attenuating waves sound waves that pass through it, radially connecting the clevis 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7 and the actuating rod 19 of the brake amplifier 15.
[0053] When the acoustic attenuation device 27 is positioned in the assembly 5, it radially connects the bracket 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7 and the actuating rod 19 of the brake amplifier 15, which allows the cavity 25 of the bracket 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7 to be closed. The acoustic attenuation device 27, comprising an acoustic attenuation material, thus attenuates the noise passing through the cavity 25 of the bracket 21 transmitted in particular through the cutout 23 of the apron 9.
[0054] Thus, unlike the prior art, the assembly 5 according to the invention allows two levels of acoustic attenuation of sound waves passing through the cavity 25. On the one hand, the housing 17 performs a first acoustic filtering and, on the other hand, the acoustic attenuation device 27 performs a second acoustic filtering.
[0055] In one embodiment of the invention, the acoustic attenuation device 27 comprises a closing disc 29 extending radially into the cavity 25 and an acoustic sealing lip 31 arranged between the closing disc 29 and the actuating rod 19 of the brake amplifier 15.
[0056] The closing disc 29 may, for example, consist of a flat surface.
[0057] In the embodiment illustrated in the figures, the closing disc 29 extends radially from an outer edge 33 of the cavity towards the interior of the cavity 25. More particularly, the closing disc 29 extends radially towards the interior of the cavity 25 closest to the actuating rod 19 of the brake amplifier 15.
[0058] In one embodiment, the closing disc 29 is made of a plastic material and the acoustic sealing lip 31 is made of an acoustically insulating material, for example, a foam. The acoustic sealing lip 31 provides acoustic sealing between an inner edge 35 of the closing disc 29 and the actuating rod 19 of the brake booster 15.
[0059] The closing disc 29 can for example bear against a rear edge 37 of the cavity 25, as shown in the figures.
[0060] In the embodiment illustrated in the figures, the closing disc 29 is an integral part of the clevis 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7.
[0061] According to an alternative embodiment not shown, the closing disc 29 may consist of an added part fixed to the clevis 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7. In this case, the clevis 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7 may, for example, include a clipping interface for the closing disc 29 and the closing disc 29 is fixed by clipping onto the clevis 21 of the brake pedal assembly 7.
[0062] As will be understood, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments of this acoustic attenuation assembly and of this vehicle comprising such an assembly, described above solely by way of illustrative examples, but it On the contrary, it embraces all variants involving the technical equivalents of the means described, as well as their combinations if these fall within the scope of the invention.
