Description
Title of the invention: Assembly for fixing a brake caliper to a pivot for a vehicle, and method for mounting and dismounting such an assembly. Technical field of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates to a brake caliper mounting assembly for a vehicle pivot, and a method for mounting and dismounting such an assembly. Prior art
[0002] An example of a prior art realization of such an assembly is shown in [Fig.1].
[0003] Figure 1 shows a mounting assembly for a brake caliper 20 on a wheel hub 21 for a vehicle, designed to ensure a secure and stable connection between the brake caliper 20 and the wheel hub 21, thus guaranteeing the proper functioning of the braking system. The hub 21, which is an integral part of the vehicle's steering and suspension system, has two aligned through holes designed to accommodate mounting screws 22.
[0004] These through holes are precision machined to allow for a perfect fit of the screws, thus ensuring a firm and play-free fastening. The brake caliper 20, which houses the brake pads and pistons, is positioned to enclose part of the brake disc. It is then securely fastened to the pivot 21 using two robust screws.
[0005] Some prior art documents also propose an arrangement of a disc brake caliper on a vehicle axle. Publication document EP3194801 is known, for example.
[0006] The assembly is robust but the assembly and disassembly time is significant and requires two screws. Presentation of the invention
[0007] The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks with a completely innovative approach.

[0033] Fig. 1 (relating to the prior art) shows a brake caliper mounting assembly 20 on a pivot 21 for a vehicle and has been described above.
[0034] Figure 2 shows a mounting assembly for a brake caliper 20 on a vehicle pivot 21, highlighting a mechanism for interlocking male and female parts. The pivot 21, a central element of the vehicle's suspension and steering, has a circular portion in the form of a curved rail, thus defining a female part. This female part is designed to accommodate the brake caliper 20 and ensure precise alignment between the two components.
[0035] The brake caliper 20 is equipped with at least one first circular mounting tab 24, corresponding to the male part of the assembly. In the example, there are two mounting tabs 24. The tabs 24 fit perfectly into the circular rail 23 of the pivot 21, allowing precise mechanical interaction between the two parts. The curved shape of the circular tabs 24 matches the curvature of the female part, ensuring stable positioning and even distribution of forces during braking.
[0036] The through hole 25 visible in the first mounting tab 24 of the brake caliper 20 is designed to receive a fixing screw. This screw passes through both the mounting tab 24 of the brake caliper 20 and is fixed to the pivot 21, thus ensuring a secure fixing of the two elements. The through hole is positioned so as to perfectly align the male and female components during assembly.
[0037] By joining these two components using the screw, the male part (arc-shaped tab 24) and the female part (circular rail 23 of the pivot 21) engage to ensure a robust connection. This interlocking mechanism facilitates assembly and disassembly. The assembly also provides optimal resistance to forces generated during braking, such as friction and vibration.
[0038] The arc-shaped configuration of each mounting bracket 24 and the circular rail 23 allows for a more uniform distribution of mechanical stresses, thus improving the longevity of the braking system and minimizing wear on the components.
[0039] Naturally, the invention is described above by way of example. It is understood that a person skilled in the art is able to carry out different embodiments of the invention without departing from the scope of the invention.
[0040] Fig. 3 shows another perspective view of a brake caliper mounting assembly 20 on a pivot 21 for a vehicle.
[0041] This view shows another angle of view to better see the circular rail 23 and the fixing lugs 24.
[0042] Figure 4 shows a perspective view of a vehicle pivot 21. The figure shows only the vehicle pivot 21 and its integrated circular rail 23, a key element of the brake caliper mounting assembly 20.
[0043] The pivot 21 comprises a circular portion, which forms a curved rail, partly circular or semi-circular, also called the female portion. This rail is positioned from in order to create a defined hollow or groove in the surface of the pivot 21. It follows an arc-shaped trajectory, with precise dimensions to match the male shape of the brake caliper 20. The rail is designed to accommodate the arc-shaped mounting tabs 24 of the brake caliper 20, thus allowing a precise fit between the two components.
[0044] The internal edges of the rail are slightly raised or inclined to guide the mounting tabs 24 of the brake caliper 20 during assembly, thus facilitating the insertion and retention of the male part (brake caliper).
[0045] This figure highlights only the female part (circular rail 23) of the pivot 21 and also shows the screw thread. It allows a clear visualization of how the pivot 21 is designed to cooperate with the male part of the brake caliper 20 via this circular joint, which is essential for the stability and securing of the assembly.
[0046] The end of the rail has a stop so that, when the brake caliper 20 is inserted onto the pivot 21, the caliper mounting tab is locked in a position that matches the screw passage hole with the thread.
[0047] Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of a brake caliper 20 equipped with its two mounting lugs 24, one of which has a through hole for the passage of a screw.
[0048] The two mounting tabs 24, located on either side of the caliper 20, are curved to fit the female part (circular rail 23) of the pivot 21. They are slightly inclined and follow a curve that perfectly matches the shape of the rail. These mounting tabs 24 serve to stabilize the brake caliper 20 by inserting into the circular rail 23 of the pivot 21, ensuring precise alignment during assembly.
[0049] The circular mounting tabs 24 are arranged symmetrically, their curvature being visible in the figure and the following figure. They form the male part which fits into the female part of the pivot 21, ensuring a solid and stable connection between the brake caliper 20 and the pivot 21.
[0050] One of the two mounting tabs 24 is designed to accommodate a fixing screw, which passes through the tab 24 and screws into the pivot 21, ensuring a firm fixing of the brake caliper 20.
[0051] The through hole 25 is located at one end of the lug 24, with machined edges to ensure that the screw is inserted precisely and held securely in place. This lug 24 is longer than the other because it incorporates the screw to ensure the overall attachment of the brake caliper 20 to the pivot 21.
[0052] The brake caliper 20, visible around the mounting brackets 24, is shown in a simplified manner in the figure. It is designed to hold the brake pads and allow the pistons to move, but these elements are not illustrated here.
[0053] Fig. 6 shows a perspective and cross-sectional view of a brake caliper 20 and provides a greater view of the mounting tabs 24 and the through hole 25.
[0054] Fig. 7 shows a perspective view of the assembly of a brake caliper mounting assembly 20 on a pivot 21 for a vehicle.
[0055] The figure shows the assembly of a brake caliper fixing assembly 20 on a pivot 21, in two main steps: the insertion of the brake caliper 20 into the rail of the pivot 21, followed by fixing with a screw.
[0056] An arrow is drawn on the figure showing the direction and sense of insertion of the brake caliper 20 onto the pivot 21. This arrow shows how the arc-shaped tabs 24 slide in the circular rail 23 of the pivot 21.
[0057] Next, a screw is inserted into the first upper fixing tab 24, passing through the brake caliper 20 to screw into the pivot 21, ensuring a robust and secure fixing.
[0058] This sequence highlights the simplicity and efficiency of the fastening system, with precise interlocking followed by a single fastening with a single screw.
[0059] It is emphasized that all features, as they are apparent to a person skilled in the art from the present description, drawings and attached features, even if in practice they have only been described in relation to other specific features, both individually and in any combinations, can be combined with other features or groups of features disclosed herein, provided that this has not been expressly excluded or that technical circumstances make such combinations impossible or meaningless.
