[0030] In the following detailed description of the embodiment of the disclosure, reference is made to the accompanying drawing that forms part hereof, and in which is shown by way of illustration a specific embodiment in which the disclosure may be practiced. This embodiment is described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to practice the disclosure, and it is to be understood that other embodiments may be utilized and that changes may be made without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. The following description is, therefore, not to be taken in a limiting sense.

[0031] Fig. 1 shows a schematic view according to an embodiment of a communication device 10. As shown, the communication device 10 may be configured as a mobile phone. The communication device 10 may comprise a display device 12. Furthermore, the communication device 10 may comprise at least a storage device 14.

[0032] According to Fig. 1, just for example, a first car 16 may have a crash / accident 34 with a second car 18. The first car 16 was driven by a first driver 20, and the second car 18 was driven by a second driver 22. The communication device 10 may be a communication device 10 of the first driver 20. It is also possible that the second driver 22 may have a further communication device 10.

[0033] Fig. 2 shows a schematic flow chart according to an embodiment of the method. In particular, Fig. 2 shows the insurers 30, with, for example, the first insurer 26 for the first person 20 and a second insurer 32 for the second person 22. Furthermore, the car accident 34 is shown, wherein the first car 16 and the second car 18 are shown. Furthermore, the first driver 20 as well as the second driver 22 is shown. Furthermore, Fig. 2 shows a blockchain 36. The blockchain 36 uses first data 38 for the first car 16 and second data 40 for the second car 18.

[0034] Fig. 2 shows that the drivers 20, 22 need to swap their insurance details, which is indicated by an arrow 42. The second driver 22 may send the accident details 44 to the second insurer 32. The second insurer 32 may transmit insurance information 28 to the blockchain 36. The blockchain 26 may provide the insurance information 28 for the second driver 22.

[0035] The first driver 20 transmits the accident details 44 to the first insurance company 26. The first insurance company 26 transmits the insurance details, in particular the insurance information 28, to the blockchain 26. The blockchain 26 may transmit the insurance details, in particular the insurance information 28, to the first driver 24.

[0036] In particular, Fig. 2 shows a method for providing the insurance information 28 for an entity, for example, the drivers 20, 22, by the communication device 10. A request for the insurance information 28 is transmitted to an electronic computing device 46 of an insurance company 26, 32. The request is, for example, shown with the accident details 44. The insurance information 28 is received from the insurance company 26, 32 by the communication device 10. The insurance information 28 is stored in the storage device 14 of the communication device 10.

[0037] In particular, Fig. 2 shows the method that allows people, for example the first driver 20 and the second driver 22, wherein the first driver 20 and the second driver 22 may be a so-called entity, with the appropriate authority to digitally request this data as well as a governance structure that would allow the appropriate people or organizations to manage the data within.

[0038] An access request might be limited in scope to only parts of the data, for instance in a car crash between two motor vehicles 16, 18, they do not need to share details about the coverage, only about the fact that the other party has coverage.

[0039] While it could be implemented in a variety of ways, a blockchain 26 is a preferred method. A normal database could be used but would require additional setup requirements.

[0040] According to the shown embodiment, the insurance companies 26, 32 may be able to insert data into the blockchain 36 on a private network. They also might have the ability to give read access, via cryptographic tokens or keys, to whomever they choose. This means the insurance companies 26, 32 may allow, for example, an application, a website, an individual, or other means to see their own insurance details.

[0041] For example, as shown in Fig. 1, a QR-code is unique to a transaction and might be generated and provided to the party requesting the insurance information 28. The level for success is determined based on the situation and the credentials of the requesting party. The QR code might be provided by an application or a smartphone or displayed on the display device 12 available in a device of the motor vehicles 16, 18.

[0042] There are lots of potential times when one needs proof-of-insurance. Mostly it is used for verification purposes or when an incident covered by the insurance occurs.

[0043] Therefore, the method might be used for an accident 34, wherein the insurance information 28 is shared with other parties involved in the accident 34, the police or responders checking, or in the case of autonomous driving to prove that the vehicle is insured. Furthermore, the method can be used for obtaining license plates or tags of the motor vehicles 16, 18. Furthermore, the method can be used, for example, by talking to police, for example, when the police pulled the driver 20, 22 over and asks for license registration. Furthermore, the method may be used during renting a car, at home, for obtaining a mortgage / loan or during an employment, if driving is part of the job.
