Eight / sixteen forward gear planetary gear mechanism automatic transmission series

Abstract

An eight and sixteen forward gear planetary gear mechanism automatic transmission series. Eight forward speeds realized by combining three planetary gear sets P1-3 and five clutches L1-5. Sixteen forward speeds realized by combining four planetary gear sets P1-4 and six clutches L1-6. In both structures the sun gear of the first planetary stage is fixedly mounted to the front end of the housing 1, and the sun gear of the second planetary stage is fixedly mounted to the inner housing via a positioning bracket. In the eight forward speed structure the third planet carrier 16 or third ring gear 17 may be selectively locked by a bidirectional clutch, where the forward ratios are achieved by locking the third ring gear. In the sixteen forward speed structure the fourth planetary carrier or fourth ring gear may be selectively locked by the bidirectional clutch.
