Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a nath support sleeve for receiving and supporting a nath. The present invention also relates to a kit which includes the sleeve. The present invention further relates to a method of inserting a nath support sleeve. In wedding ceremonies of certain faiths such as Hinduism and Islam, it is traditional for the bride to wear a nath, for cultural and aesthetic reasons. A nath is a nose-ring, worn primarily by women in Indian and Asian cultures, through an aperture in the left or right nose wing, and typically connected by a chain to a hairpiece. However, wearing a nath presents a number of issues. Insertion and removal of a nath is challenging. The nath has a closure element which may generally include a pin-like or elongate arcuate structure. To insert the nath, the user needs to open the closure element of the nath and insert the sharp end of a pin-like or elongate arcuate structure through the aperture in their nose, then close the closure element. Locating the aperture is challenging because the aperture is narrow, potentially obscured with make-up. The minimum focusing distance of the human eye means that the user is not able to directly see the aperture without the use of a mirror. Insertion and / or removal of the nath by a second user can be intrusive and / or unhygienic for the first user. Furthermore, as the aperture is narrow, pushing or pulling a sharp tipped structure through the nose can be time-consuming and painful, with an important risk of injury. The risk of injury is further heightened if the user is rushing due to being short on time, as may be the case on their wedding day. Removal of nose jewellery from the aperture and leaving the aperture through the nose devoid of jewellery increases the risk of infection and / or the aperture closing as the wound heals. Securing the nath in place is difficult due to spatial constraints and limited access to the closure element once the nath is positioned through the nose. The thinness of the pin-like or elongate arcuate structure means that the whole weight of the nath is concentrated over a small area of contact, which may be uncomfortable once the nath is in position. If the nath gets caught, this can pose a significant risk of the tearing. Traditional naths are large, adorned with jewels and made of precious metal such as silver, gold, platinum, palladium, or titanium. Preferably, the metal is Indian gold, in other words, gold which is 22 or 24 carats. As traditional naths may be heavy and expensive, modern naths are available which are lighter and cheaper, due to being made of artificial, non-precious metals, such as copper, zinc, nickel, or artificial gold in which a thin layer of gold is applied to a non-gold material such as copper or zinc. However, a downside of modern naths is that various users are irritated or even allergic to the materials used in modern naths. A user may not have an aperture through their nose or if they have an aperture, they may not wish to thread a nath therethrough. Whilst clip-on naths are available, they are undesirable as less secure and less authentic than a traditional nath. Clip-on naths may also result in irritation or bruising. Clip-on naths are also typically formed of artificial materials, which may, once again, cause irritation or allergic reactions. For all the above reasons, wearing a nath is a traumatic experience for many brides. The present invention seeks to provide a solution to these problems. According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a nath support sleeve for providing a sleeve for receiving and supporting a nath when the sleeve is positioned through a user’s nose, the nath support sleeve comprising: a first member having a first inner surface defining a first bore, a second member interconnectable with the first member, the second member having a second inner surface defining a second bore, the first bore and second bore together forming a continuous sleeve bore when the nath support sleeve is assembled for supporting the nath. The sleeve is a tubular support which facilitates the wearing of a nath on the user’s wedding day, for a plurality of reasons. In no particular order, the sleeve can be inserted into the user’s nose ahead of time, which means one fewer step needs to be carried out on the user’s wedding day, thereby freeing up the user’s time on the day. As the tubular support needs to be inserted carefully into the nose to avoid injury, being able to carry out this step ahead of time enables the user to take their time and reduce the risk of injury, instead of rushing on their wedding day. Secondly, it is easier to locate the entrance of the continuous sleeve bore which is always open. If any is applied, make-up is less likely or unable to obscure the entrance of the continuous sleeve bore. Thirdly, the sharp end of the closure element is prevented from contacting the skin directly upon insertion and / or removal, such that the likelihood of injury and / or pain is reduced or eliminated. After removal of the nath, the sleeve may optionally remain in position such that the risk of infection and / or of the wound closing is reduced or eliminated. Fourthly, the sleeve distributes the force due to the weight of the nath over a greater area of contact with the skin, which may improve comfort for the user. Increasing the area of contact with the skin may also reduce the risk of tearing, at least compared with the needle-thin closure element, in case the nath gets caught or yanked. Fifthly, the sleeve provides a physical barrier which prevents direct contact between the nath and the nose. This may be particularly desirable if the user is irritated by or allergic to the materials used in modern naths. Sixthly, the sleeve helps position the nath correctly, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the nath, and preventing or inhibiting the nath from moving or falling out during the wedding. The sleeve therefore allows traditional customs to be preserved whilst simultaneously offering convenience and comfort. Beneficially, the continuous sleeve bore may have a centreline which is at least in part curved. The closure element of the nath may be arcuate. This may, for example, enable the nath to form a circle when closed, which may be more aesthetic. The arcuate section may thus be inserted into the continuous sleeve bore if also curved. The curvature of the centreline preferably matches the curvature of the arcuate section but this is optional, for example if the width of the sleeve bore is sufficiently great to provide a tolerance, thereby accommodating a range of possible curvatures of the arcuate section. A curved sleeve bore provides compatibility with a curved nath. Preferably, at least one of: the first inner surface and the second inner surface may taper outwardly so as to provide a guiding surface. Tapering outwardly in at least one, and more preferably in at least a plurality of directions increases a dimension of an opening of the continuous sleeve bore. If tapering outwardly in several directions, part of the support sleeve forms a trumpet- or funnel-shape. A wider opening may help the user thread the end of the closure element into the continuous sleeve bore. Furthermore, the first member and / or second member may include a decorative element. Additionally, the decorative element may include a gemstone. The first member and / or second member may have an aesthetic function in addition to a technical function of forming a support sleeve. The user can use the sleeve without the nath, as a decorative nose-piercing, if desired, for example outside of their wedding day. Advantageously, the first bore and / or the second bore may extend through the decorative element. The decorative element, and more preferably, the gemstone may be hollow, and more preferably toroidal or annular. The nath can be inserted through the decorative element. Optionally, the decorative element may form the first nose-abutment portion and / or the decorative element may form the second nose-abutment portion. In addition to an aesthetic function, the decorative element has a technical function of preventing or inhibiting accidental movement of the sleeve relative to the nose. There is no need to have another portion providing a nose-abutment portion in addition to the decorative element which forms a nose-abutment portion. This simplifies the design of the sleeve, such that manufacture is simplified, saving time, cost and materials, which is environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the first nose-abutment portion may include a flange and / or the second nose-abutment portion may include a flange. The flange may be simple, discrete, thin and generally easy to manufacture. If the flange is received inside the nose, the thinness of the flange is beneficial as it takes up little volume, such that airflow through the nostril is not blocked or the hindrance to airflow is minimised. Optionally, the first member may include a first main portion. Additionally or alternatively, the second member may include a second main portion. Part of the sleeve needs to be elongate, at least relative to the abutment portion, so as to extend through the nose. Optionally both members may be configured to extend through the aperture and meet partway along the aperture. Advantageously, the first nose-abutment portion may be integrally formed with the first main portion. Furthermore, the second nose-abutment portion may be integrally formed with the second main portion. Screw threads also only require rotation to be applied to the nose-abutment portion, rather than any more complicated action or sequence of actions, as might be the case with another fastener. Furthermore, a said screw-thread may be provided internally in the first nose-abutment portion and / or second nose-abutment portion and a complementary said screw-thread may be provided externally on the first main portion and / or second main portion. A screw thread provided externally on the main portion would not narrow the width of the continuous sleeve bore, as this might hinder or prevent a nath from being inserted through the sleeve. According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a kit comprising a nath support sleeve, preferably in accordance with the first aspect of the invention, and at least one of: a nath, a sleeve positioning device, and cleaning means. The sleeve may be provided together with a nath, with auxiliary equipment for maintaining hygiene or for facilitating insertion and / or removal of the sleeve and / or nath, or any combination of the above. The user does not need to separately source these components, saving time and effort, and money, especially if there is a chance of sourcing an incorrect component. Beneficially, the sleeve positioning device may include a, preferably elongate, guiding member which may be configured to be insertable into the aperture through the user’s nose and may be receivable within the nath support sleeve for enabling the nath support sleeve to be slidably moved along the elongate guiding member into position through the nose. The elongate guiding member can be used to in-use guide the sleeve into position through the nose. Preferably, the sleeve positioning device may further include connection means for connecting with the first member and / or the second member. Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a user’s nose 10 as viewed from below. A user’s nose 10 has two wings 12 and a columella 14. Together, each wing 12 and the columella 14 define a passageway referred to as a nostril 16, such that the user has two nostrils 16. Each wing 12 has an inner surface 12a and an outer surface 12b. The user may optionally further comprise a bore or aperture 17 which extends through a wing 12 and connects the outside of the nostril 16 to the inside of the nostril 16. The aperture 17 outline is indicated as dashed lines in Figure 1. Referring now to Figure 2, there is shown a first embodiment of a kit indicated generally at 18. The centreline C corresponds to the sum or aggregation of the centrepoints at each location along the longitudinal extent of the sleeve 22. Preferably a centrepoint is equidistant or substantially equidistant from opposing areas of the first inner surface 48 and / or second inner surface 56. As the first member 32 and / or second member 34 are preferably tubular, a cross-section of the first member 32 and / or second member 34 in a transverse plane may be circular. Thus, the sleeve 22 may have a linear length, measured linearly along the longitudinal extent, and a curved length, measured along the centreline C. However, it could be envisioned that the sleeve is non-curved, such as linear, but the sleeve bore and centreline within the sleeve are curved along the longitudinal extent. The curvature of the sleeve 22 and / or of the centreline C preferably matches the curvature of the nath 20. The decorative element 28 improves the aesthetics of the sleeve 22. Furthermore, the decorative element 28 may have a surface which provides the second abutment surface 52. Preferably, the decorative element 28 includes at least one gem or gemstone, but any alternative may be envisioned such as one or more beads, or decorative metalwork, by way of examples only. A gemstone may be real or artificial. Referring back to Figure 2 now, if a plurality of decorative elements 28 is provided, the decorative elements 28 may be interchangeable. If the decorative elements 28 form or are connected to another part, such as a nose-abutment portion and / or a main portion, the kit 18 may also comprise a plurality of such a part. Thus, the kit 18 may comprise a plurality of second members 34. Beneficially, the user has a choice of decorative elements 28. At least two decorative elements 28 may be different to each other. At least two decorative elements 28 may be the same as each other. If the kit 18 includes a plurality of decorative elements 28 which are gemstones, the gemstones may be interchangeable. The decorative element 28, and more preferably gemstone, may be separably connectable with a second member 34. Preferably however, the decorative element 28, and more preferably gemstone may be non-separably connected or non-separably connectable to the second member 34, such as by being integrally formed therewith or captively held thereby. The gemstone may be any of: white, red, green, pink, black, any other colour, or any combination thereof. The sleeve connection means 36 in-use enables the first member 32 and the second member 34 to be connectable or connected, optionally separably, together. The sleeve connection means 36 may also be referred to as a connector. The sleeve connection means 36 preferably includes complementary connection portions 36a, such as male and female portions, or bayonet engagement portions. In the Figures, the connection portions 36a are complementarily engageable screw-threads. The first member 32 may have an internal screw-thread and the second member 34 may have an external screw-thread complementarily engageable with the internal screw-thread. However, the opposite arrangement may be envisioned. More preferably, the external screw-thread is provided on the second nose-abutment portion 50. A complementary internal screw-thread is provided on the first main portion 38. The sleeve positioning device 24 in-use facilitates positioning the sleeve 22 within the aperture 17. The sleeve positioning device 24 can be used to insert and / or remove at least part of the sleeve 22. The sleeve positioning device 24 may be used to hold the sleeve 22 or part thereof. In the first embodiment, the sleeve positioning device 24 is pliers 24a. The pliers 24a in-use provide an ergonomic tool to grip or hold at least part of the sleeve 22. The pliers 24a may be ridge-specific pliers. The specialized pliers 24a are designed to help adjust the nath 20 for a perfect fit into the sleeve 22. The precise control offered by the pliers 24a allows for fine-tuning the shape and alignment of the nath 20, ensuring the nath 20 fits securely and comfortably within the sleeve 22. This customization ensures that the nath 20 maintains its aesthetic appeal while the sleeve 22 provides a snug and stable fit. The cleaning means 26, also referred to as cleaning element in-use improves hygiene. The cleaning means 26 may include a cleaning solution such as a cleaning liquid. The cleaning means 26 may be provided in a container. Any part of the kit 18, such as the sleeve 22, may be placed in the cleaning solution at any point. For example, the sleeve 22 may be placed in the cleaning solution prior to insertion and / or after removal from the aperture 17 in the user’s wing 12. Good hygiene reduces the risk of infection. The sleeve 22 may be multi-use or single-use. The multi-use sleeve 22 is thus beneficially designed to be versatile, suitable to be worn more than once. The multi-use sleeve 22 can be worn daily. Beneficially, re-usability means the sleeve is not discarded, which reduces waste, cost and is environmentally friendly, particularly as clip-on naths and single use naths are frequently discarded. A single-use sleeve 22 is intended for one-time use, though it may not necessarily be disposable after a single use. It is preferably not designed for daily wear or for customizing the gemstone colour. The single use sleeve 22 is ideal for users seeking a specific look for their wedding day without the need for long-term use or customization. In-use, as shown in Figures 4, 5 and 6, the user obtains a nath support sleeve 22, and more preferably a kit 18 comprising at least a nath support sleeve 22, at Step S100 in Figure 6. The user inserts the first member 32 into their nostril 16 then into the aperture 17 at Step S200. Preferably, the user moves the first member 32 until the first nose-abutment portion 40 abuts against the inner surface of the wing 12. Depending on the linear length of the first main portion 38 relative to the length of the aperture 17, the first member 32 may or may not extend beyond the aperture 17 and outside of the nose 10. The first nose-abutment portion 40 and the first main portion 38 are preferably fixed and even more preferably integrally formed. However, if not fixed, such as connectable or moveable relative to one another, the user may connect or position the first noseabutment portion 40 and the first main portion 38 relative to each other. This step may be done after, or preferably, before insertion of the first member 32 into the aperture 17 due to the user’s nose 10 otherwise inhibiting or preventing access to the first noseabutment portion 40 and the first main portion 38. Before or after insertion of the first member 32 into the aperture 17, the user positions the second member 34 so as to engage first member 32 at Step S300. The second member 34 is connected to the first member 32 via engagement of the sleeve connection means 36. Preferably, the complementary screw-threads are engaged. The engagement of the first member 32 and the second member 34 results in the first bore 48a and second bore 56a being positioned relative to one another to form the continuous sleeve bore 60. As illustrated in Figure 4, the sleeve 22 is in an assembled condition, through the wing 12. The closure element 30 of the nath 20 is opened. A free end of the moveable portion 30a is inserted into the sleeve bore 60, optionally guided by the guiding surface 58 if provided. If the sleeve bore 60 extends through the decorative element 28, the nath 20 is surrounded by the decorative element 28. Preferably, the moveable portion 30a is moved until the moveable portion 30a extends through the sleeve bore 60 and protrudes out of the opposite end of the sleeve 22. The closure element 30 is preferably closed again. Figure 5 shows the nath 20 in a closed condition, received and supported by the sleeve 22 through the wing 12. When the nath 20 is no longer wanted, the closure element 30 is opened and the moveable portion 30a removed from the sleeve 22. To remove the sleeve 22, the user disconnects the first member 32 and the second member 34 from each other. The first member 32 and / or the second member 34 are removed from the aperture 17. Optionally, any or all parts may be cleaned using the cleaning means 26 at any time, such as prior to insertion into the nose 10 and / or after removal from the nose 10. Part of the sleeve connection means 136 is provided at and more preferably, externally on the second main portion 162, for connection with the first member 132. The body 164a may be preferably a rod or rod-like element, such as a pick. The body 164a may be curved, as shown, but non-curved such as linear, may be envisioned. Preferably, the guiding member 164 or at least the body 164a thereof may comprise plastics. More preferably, a said sleeve positioning device 224 may include or may be pliers 224a, similar to the first embodiment. A further said sleeve positioning device 224 may be a guiding member 264, similar to the guiding member 164 of the second embodiment. The guiding member 264 in the third embodiment is similar to the guiding member 164 of the second embodiment, having same or similar body 264a and, optionally, guidingmember connection means 264b. The guiding-member connection means 264b is preferably complementary to the connection portion 236a of the sleeve 222. The guiding-member connection means 264b preferably includes an internal screw thread rather than an external screw thread. The internal screw thread is engageable with the external screw thread of the sleeve 222. The guiding-member connection means 264b is visible in Figures 13 and 14, in which part of the guiding member 264 is cut-away. Preferably, the guiding member 264 is only compatible with a sleeve 222 as per the first embodiment, which may optionally be a multi-use sleeve 222, but it could be considered that the guiding member be compatible with a range of different sleeves including the sleeve of the second embodiment, which may be single-use. The guiding member 264 may be made from a plastics material, more preferably a flexible bioflex plastics. The guiding member 264 beneficially enables safe and comfortable insertion into the nose. The guiding member 264 is preferably a hypoallergenic, durable design which allows for easy guidance of the sleeve into place and smooth removal, providing a reliable and irritation-free experience. Referring back to Figure 10, the pliers 224a in the third embodiment are adapted, configured to or can be used to alter the moveable portion 230a of the nath 220 from a first condition to a second condition and / or vice-versa. The uses of the third embodiment are the same as or similar to those of the first and / or second embodiments. Detailed description of the common steps and caveats is omitted for brevity. Figure 13 illustrates the guiding member 264 being moved adjacent to the aperture 17. The guiding member 264 is inserted into the aperture 17 through the wing 12. The guiding member 264 is designed for seamless insertion into the nose aperture 17. The guiding member 264 is inserted all the way through the aperture 17 in the wing 12 and acts as a guide for precise placement. Unlike the second embodiment, the sleeve 222 is not moved around or translated along the body 264a. Instead, once the guiding member 264 is in position, the first member 232 of the sleeve 222 is moved toward the guiding member 264 as per arrow A in Figure 14. The guiding member 264 is engaged, preferably here by screwing guiding-member connection means 264b, with the sleeve 222 and more preferably with the connection portion 236a of the sleeve 222, and more preferably the first member 232 thereof. This ensures a secure connection and facilitates easy passage through the aperture 17 in the wing 12. With the sleeve 222 attached to the guiding member 264 via the connected connection portions 236a and guiding-member connection means 264b, the guiding member 264 is pulled back through the aperture 17, pulling the connected sleeve 222 along with it. The guiding member 264 is pulled until the sleeve 222 is in position, preferably extending at least in part in and more preferably through the aperture 17 in the wing 12. Once the sleeve 222 is in position, the guiding member 264 is disengaged from the sleeve 222, preferably by unscrewing. In Figure 15, the first member 232 and the second member 234 is shown prior to engagement. The second member 234 is then connected to the first member 232. The guiding member 264 functionality provides both ease and accuracy, making it a useful tool for securing the sleeve 222 or part thereof in place. The moveable portion 230a in the first condition is inserted through the sleeve 222. If the moveable portion 230a is originally in the second condition, the pliers 224a may be used to transition the moveable portion 230a from the second condition to the first condition, prior to insertion through the sleeve 222. Once the nath 220 has been positioned through the sleeve 222, the pliers 224a are used to alter the shape of the moveable portion 230a so that the moveable portion 230a is in or back in the second condition. The moveable portion 230a, which is now preferably hook-shaped, is engaged with the moveable portion receiver 230b, to close the nath 220 so the nath 220 is in a closed condition and supported by the sleeve 222 extending through the wing 12 of the nose. Thus, the pliers 224a are designed to carefully adjust the nath 220 from its traditional hook shape to a more elongated, gently curved form, allowing for smooth insertion into the nath nook 222. This reshaping ensures that the nath 220 can easily pass through the hollow chamber or through-bore of the nath nook 222 without compromising the structural integrity of aesthetic of the nath 220. Once the nath 220 is securely positioned within the nook 222, the pliers 224a are then used again to restore the original hook shape, enabling the nath 220 to be fastened to its other end and / or connected to additional jewellery pieces, completing the traditional look.
