System and method for securing accessories to clothing

A system and method for securing accessories to shoes and other articles of clothing is described. One illustrative embodiment is a system for attaching a decorative accessory to a shoe, the system comprising a shaft having first and second ends; a first shoulder secured to the first end of the shaft, the first shoulder being configured for insertion through an expandable hole in an upper portion of the shoe and configured to engage an inner surface of the upper portion of the shoe; a second shoulder secured to the second end of the shaft, the second shoulder being configured to engage the shoe; and a third shoulder adjacent to the second shoulder, the third shoulder comprising the decorative accessory. Another illustrative embodiment is a system for securing a decorative accessory to a shoe, the system comprising a shoe having an upper portion, the upper portion having an inner surface, an outer surface, and at least one stretchable hole; a shaft having first and second ends; a first shoulder secured to the first end of the shaft, the first shoulder being configured for insertion through the at least one stretchable hole in the upper portion of the shoe and to engage the inner surface of the upper portion of the shoe; a second shoulder secured to the second end of the shaft, the second shoulder being configured to engage the shoe; and a third shoulder adjacent to the second shoulder, the third shoulder comprising the decorative accessory.

Method and system for laser marking in the volume of gemstones such as diamonds

A method and an apparatus for laser marking indicia in the volume of gemstones such as diamonds, the indicia being made up of a plurality of microscopic dot-shaped marks whose build-up can be initiated by exposing naturally-occurring internal defects or impurities in the volume of a gemstone to a tightly focused train of laser pulses. Authentication data is encoded in the gemstone from the relative spatial arrangement of the dot-shaped marks that form the indicium. Taking advantage of the presence of otherwise invisible defects in the gemstone allows for inscribing indicia with laser pulses carrying energies substantially lower than the threshold energy required for inscribing in the volume of a perfect gemstone material. The marking process is then much less susceptible to inflict damages to the surface of the gemstone, and the marking can be performed using a broad variety of femtosecond laser systems. The dot-shaped marks engraved at a depth below the surface of a gemstone can be made undetectable with the unaided eye or with a loupe by limiting their individual size to a few micrometres, while devising indicia made up of only a few marks. As a result, the marking does not detract from the appearance and value of the gemstone. The procedure for laser marking accounts for the random spatial distribution of the defects present in natural gemstones as well as for their strongly localized character. The presence of an indicium can be detected by using a dedicated optical reader that can be afforded by every jewellery store.

Biocompatible cemented carbide articles and methods of making the same

InactiveUS20070082229A1Eliminate and minimize toxic effectReduce concentrationSurgeryJewelleryBiocompatibility TestingAlloy
This invention relates to cemented carbide articles that are characterized by substantially improved biocompatibility with human skin, tissue, organs, etc., compared with articles made from conventional cemented carbides. The essential feature of these improved biocompatible cemented carbide articles is a binder-depleted zone at and near the exposed surfaces of the articles. By depleting the binder (which mainly consists of Co and / or Ni, as well as their alloys) at and near the surface, the toxic effects of Co and Ni (known carcinogens), as well as the allergic reactions that these metals can cause when in contact with human skin, are eliminated. By depleting the binder only at and near the surface, the bulk properties of the cemented carbide article are not compromised or altered in any manner. Applications of these binder-depleted cemented carbides could include articles that human skin may experience prolonged exposure to, for example, jewelry articles such as rings, bracelets, bangles, chains, necklaces, pendants, watches, watch cases, watch straps, etc. In addition, the cemented carbides of this invention may be used in applications where the article comes directly in contact with human skin, tissue, organs, etc. such as surgical and other medical instruments, razor blades, etc. Also, other applications could include knives, tools, dies, and other wear components that are used to process and handle, and hence, come into direct contact with materials meant for human consumption and / or ingestion. Examples of such materials include foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals.

Method for plating surface of rhinestone and plastic-suction disk

The invention discloses a method for plating the surface of a rhinestone. The method comprises the following steps: arranging a plurality of rhinestones in the same direction, and forming a plastic-suction disk by plastic suction, wherein, a plurality of absorption holes are formed on one surface of the plastic-suction disk, and the facial part of the rhinestone is embedded and fixed in the absorption hole; plating the surface of the plastic-suction disk with the embedded rhinestones with a reflection layer, wherein, the reflection layer is a silver, aluminum or chromium layer; coating the surface of the plastic-suction disk with the plated reflection layer with a protection layer, wherein, the protection layer is an anti-tarnishing paint, copper or copper-zinc alloy layer; and separating the rhinestones out from the plastic-suction disk. The invention further discloses a plastic-suction disk. By manufacturing the ground and polished rhinestones into a plastic-suction disk in a plastic-suction forming manner, the rhinestones can be fixed onto the plastic-suction disk, therefore, the plating treatment can be carried out on the entire disk of rhinestones, in this way, the invention can improve the processing efficiency, guarantee the processing quality, reduce the manual operation procedures and reduce the difficulties in plant management.
