Abstract

A plasma generating vessel 1 is described comprising: an internal volume for receiving fluid from a fluid supply system 70; an electrode 10, 20, 30 configured to apply electrical energy to the fluid within the internal volume to generate one or more bubbles of plasma. An electrical supply system 60 which is configured to control the application of electrical energy to the electrode to inhibit the application of electrical current exceeding a maximum permissible current value; the applied voltage exceeding a maximum permissible voltage value; and the applied electrical power exceeding a maximum permissible power value. The maximum permissible power value is lower than the power required to achieve the maximum permissible current value combined with the maximum permissible voltage value. Figure 1
