Abstract

The present invention describes the use of the ZCN8 protein or the ZCN8 gene in regulating drought resistance in plants. Also described is a method for breeding drought-resistant plants, which includes increasing the content of the ZCN8 protein in the plant thereby increasing drought resistance. Further described is a method for creating transgenic plants with improved drought resistance, which includes introducing the ZCN8 gene or biological material related to the ZCN8 gene into a recipient plant to obtain a transgenic plant that has higher drought resistance than the recipient plant. The ZCN8 protein is the protein listed in SEQ ID NO: 1 of the sequence list. The ZCN8 gene is the gene that encodes the ZCN8 protein. Drought resistance is reflected in the fact that in a drought stress environment, the ASI (Average System Index) of the transgenic plant is lower than that of the original plant.Drought resistance is reflected in the fact that in drought-stressed environments, the yields of transgenic plants are higher than those of the original plants. Furthermore, transgenic plants containing the ZCN8 protein or the ZCN8 gene are also available.
