Abstract
The present invention concerns a triacetin-based bioadditive composition for mineral diesel fuel, diesel–biodiesel blends, and pure biodiesel or B100. The bioadditive composition comprises triacetin as the sole bioadditive component in the range of 5–10% v / v by volume of the fuel. Triacetin is added directly to the fuel at ambient temperature and mixed to obtain a homogeneous fuel–bioadditive composition without the need for catalysts, additional chemical reactions, heating at elevated temperatures, or further refining processes. The resulting composition has a kinematic viscosity that remains within the specification range of each fuel and a sediment content of less than 0.01% m / m after storage for up to 30 days at 15–30°C.The effect of triacetin addition on density, acid number, oxidative stability, cetane number or cetane index, flash point, pour point, and cloud point depends on the type of fuel and the triacetin concentration used. The uniqueness of the present invention lies in the use of triacetin as a single bioadditive component in concentrations tested to produce a homogeneous composition, maintain flow characteristics within the specification range, and limit sediment formation during storage.
