Summary of the Invention

Problems to be Solved by the Invention

[0004] It is preferable that the sealing performance between the rail and the slider is high. Also, it is desired to ensure smooth sliding movement of the slider while maintaining high sealing performance. The linear guide device disclosed in Patent Document 1 cannot sufficiently meet such requirements.

[0005] Therefore, one of the objectives is to provide a linear guide unit that can ensure smooth sliding movement of the slider while maintaining high sealing performance.

Means for Solving the Problems

[0006] A linear motion guide unit according to this disclosure comprises a rail having a first raceway surface extending in the longitudinal direction, a slider mounted to the rail so as to be movably relative to the rail and having a second raceway surface opposite to the first raceway surface, and a plurality of rolling elements that roll along a track formed by the first raceway surface and the second raceway surface. The slider includes a casing having a first circulation path parallel to the trackway and including the second raceway surface, an end cap positioned on one longitudinal side of the casing and having a second circulation path connecting the trackway and the first circulation path, and an end seal having a shape that conforms to the outer shape of the casing when viewed in the longitudinal direction, positioned on one longitudinal side of the end cap, and sealing the gap between the slider and the rail. The casing includes a pair of casing sleeves positioned on both sides in the width direction of the rail, and a casing base portion connected to each of the pair of sleeves. The end seal includes a first lip portion that is exposed outward on one longitudinal side and contacts the rail, and a second lip portion that is positioned inward from the first lip portion and also contacts the rail. In the second lip portion, the overlap in the first region facing the first track surface is greater than the overlap in the second region facing a surface other than the first track surface. [Effects of the Invention]

[0007] According to the above linear motion guide unit, smooth sliding motion of the slider can be ensured while maintaining high sealing performance. [Brief explanation of the drawing]

[Figure 7] Figure 7 is an enlarged cross-sectional view showing a portion of the end seal at the location where the second region is positioned. [Figure 8] Figure 8 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing a portion of the linear motion guide unit in Embodiment 2 of this disclosure. [Modes for carrying out the invention]

[0009] [Summary of the Embodiment] The linear motion guide unit of this disclosure includes a rail having a first raceway surface extending in the longitudinal direction, a pair of sleeves arranged on both sides in the width direction of the rail, and a base portion connected to each of the pair of sleeves, and comprises a slider mounted to the rail so as to be relatively movable and having a second raceway surface facing the first raceway surface, and a plurality of rolling elements that roll along a track formed by the first raceway surface and the second raceway surface. The slider includes a casing having a first circulation path parallel to the trackway and including the second raceway surface, an end cap arranged on one side in the longitudinal direction of the casing and having a second circulation path connecting the trackway and the first circulation path, and an end seal having a shape that conforms to the outer shape of the casing when viewed in the longitudinal direction, and arranged on one side in the longitudinal direction of the end cap, and sealing the gap between the slider and the rail. The end seal includes a first lip portion exposed outward on one side in the longitudinal direction and in contact with the rail, and a second lip portion arranged inward from the first lip portion and in contact with the rail. In the second lip section, the interference fit in the first region facing the first raceway plane is greater than the interference fit in the second region facing a plane other than the first raceway plane.

[0010] According to the linear motion guide unit of this disclosure, a slider including a pair of sleeves and a bale connected to each sleeve is mounted on a rail such that the pair of sleeves straddle the rail. The end seal included in the slider can seal the top surface and both sides of the rail. Here, the end seal includes a first lip and a second lip, thereby improving the sealing performance.

[0011] Here, the inventors have found that in a linear motion guide unit including a slider and rail having the above configuration, the elastic end seal is pulled towards the upper surface of the rail by the elastic force of the rubber, causing the end seal to displace and, as a result, reducing the sealing performance. After diligently studying the interference fit to be provided on the end seal, they arrived at the idea for the present disclosure. According to the linear motion guide unit of the present disclosure, the interference fit in the first region is smaller than the interference fit in the second region, so the amount of displacement of the end seal can be reduced. Therefore, with such a linear motion guide unit, smooth sliding motion of the slider can be ensured while maintaining high sealing performance.

[0012] The linear motion guide unit of this disclosure includes a rail having a first raceway surface extending in the longitudinal direction, a pair of sleeves arranged on both sides in the width direction of the rail, and a base portion connected to each of the pair of sleeves, and comprises a slider mounted to the rail so as to be relatively movable and having a second raceway surface facing the first raceway surface, and a plurality of rolling elements that roll along a track formed by the first raceway surface and the second raceway surface. In the second lip section, a interference fit is provided only in the first region facing the first raceway surface.

[0013] With such a linear motion guide unit, since the second lip portion has a clamping allowance only in the first region facing the first raceway surface, it is possible to ensure smoother sliding motion of the slider while maintaining high sealing performance.

[0014] In the above linear motion guide unit, the material of the end seal may be nitrile rubber (NBR), fluororubber (FKM), or hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR). By using nitrile rubber as the material of the end seal, the compression set, tensile strength, and abrasion resistance required for a sealing component can be made relatively good. By using fluororubber as the material of the end seal, for example, when the linear motion guide unit is used in special environments, oil resistance, chemical resistance, weather resistance, and ozone resistance can be made good. By using hydrogenated nitrile rubber as the material of the end seal, heat resistance, oil resistance, and weather resistance can be made better compared to when nitrile rubber is used.

[0015] In the linear guide unit described above, the tightening allowance in the first region and the tightening allowance in the first lip portion may be equal. By doing so, it is possible to improve the sealing performance.

[0016] [Specific Example of Embodiment] Next, an example of a specific embodiment of the linear guide unit of the present disclosure will be described while referring to the drawings. In the following drawings, the same or corresponding parts are denoted by the same reference numerals and their descriptions will not be repeated.

[0017] (Embodiment 1) First, Embodiment 1 which is an embodiment of the present disclosure will be described. FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view showing a linear guide unit in Embodiment 1 of the present disclosure. FIG. 2 is a schematic front view showing a part of the members of the linear guide unit shown in FIG. 1 with some omitted. FIG. 3 is a schematic cross-sectional view when cut along the cross-section indicated by arrow III-III in FIG. 2. In FIG. 1 and the figures shown below, the X direction indicates the short side direction which is the width direction of the linear guide unit, the Y direction indicates the longitudinal direction of the linear guide unit, and the Z direction indicates the thickness direction (height direction) of the linear guide unit. The X direction, Y direction, and Z direction are orthogonal to each other. FIG. 2 is a view seen from the direction indicated by arrow Y. For ease of understanding, in FIGS. 2 and 3, some illustrations of the rollers described later are omitted.

[0018] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, the linear guide unit 10a according to Embodiment 1 of the present disclosure includes a rail 11a which is a track rail, a slider 21a, and a plurality of rollers 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d as rolling elements. The rail 11a is configured to extend straight in the longitudinal direction, i.e., the Y direction. The linear guide unit 10a according to Embodiment 1 includes a plurality of rollers 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d as rolling elements, so that the rated load can be increased while making the size compact as compared with the case where the rolling elements are balls, for example. In the present embodiment, the linear guide unit 10a is a so-called four-row linear guide unit.

[0019] First, the configuration of the rail 11a will be described. The rail 11a includes an upper rail end surface 12a and a lower rail end surface 12b arranged at a distance from each other in the Z direction, a first rail side surface 13a and a second rail side surface 13b arranged at a distance from each other in the X direction, and a front rail end surface 14a and a rear rail end surface 14b arranged at a distance from each other in the Y direction. That is, the rail 11a includes a first rail side surface 13a and a second rail side surface 13b that extend parallel to each other along the longitudinal direction. The first track groove 15b is provided on the second rail side surface 13b. A linear motion guide unit 10a including a rail 11a with such a configuration can be more reliably miniaturized.

[0020] The first track groove 15a is composed of first track surfaces 16a and 16b and a side wall surface 17a. The first track surface 16a is inclined with respect to the XY plane and is located on the side of the upper end surface 12a of the rail. The side wall surface 17a is provided in conjunction with both the first track surface 16a and the first track surface 16b. The first track groove 15b is also composed of first track surfaces 16c and 16d and a side wall surface 17b, similar to the first track groove 15a. In other words, the rail 11a includes first track surfaces 16a, 16b, 16c, and 16d that extend in the longitudinal direction. A linear motion guide unit 10a including such a rail 11a is suitably used in machine tools, assembly equipment, conveying machines, and the like.

[0021] The rail 11a is provided with a plurality of through holes 18 that penetrate in the Z direction from the upper end surface 12a of the rail to the lower end surface 12b of the rail. The plurality of through holes 18 are spaced apart in the Y direction. The through holes 18 are effectively utilized, for example, when attaching the rail 11a to a predetermined location when using the linear motion guide unit 10a.

[0022] Next, the configuration of the slider 21a will be described. The slider 21a is mounted on the rail 11a so as to be movable relative to it. The slider 21a includes a pair of sleeves 28a, 28b positioned on both sides of the rail 11a in the width direction, and a base portion 29a connected to each of the pair of sleeves 28a, 28b. The pair of sleeves 28a, 28b are spaced apart in the X direction. The base portion 29a includes a region that faces the upper end surface 12a of the rail when the slider 21a is mounted on the rail 11a. The boundary L1 between the pair of sleeves 28a, 28b and the base portion 29a is shown by a dashed line extending in the X direction in Figure 2. The slider 21a is provided with a recess 24a that is recessed in the Z direction. The slider 21a is mounted such that the rail 11a is fitted into this recess 24a. In other words, the slider 21a is slidably straddled on the rail 11a. In this embodiment, the slider 21a is mounted so as to straddle the rail 11a and is configured to be movable in the Y direction.

The first end cap 23a is positioned on one longitudinal side of the casing 22a, specifically on the rail front end face 14a side of the casing 22a in the longitudinal direction. The second end cap 23b is positioned on the other longitudinal side of the casing 22a, specifically on the rail rear end face 14b side of the casing 22a in the longitudinal direction. Specifically, the slider 21a includes a pair of end caps 23a and 23b positioned on both sides of the longitudinal direction of the casing 22a. The first end cap 23a is provided with a through hole that penetrates in the Y direction. Both the first end cap 23a and the second end cap 23b are so-called plate-shaped with their longitudinal direction as the thickness direction. The first end cap 23a is connected to the casing 22a by a plurality of bolts 26a, 26b, 26c, and 26d using the through hole. The second end cap 23b is connected to the casing 22a by a plurality of bolts using the through hole.

[0024] The retaining member 41a includes a retaining plate 42a and a retaining band 43a. The retaining plate 42a includes a second guide surface that contacts a second end surface located on the other side of the rollers 20a and 20b to guide the rollers 20a and 20b. The retaining plate 42a also includes a groove that is recessed to accommodate the retaining band 43a. The retaining member 41b also includes a retaining plate 42b and a retaining band 43b, similar to the retaining member 41a. The configuration of the retaining plate 42b is the same as that of the retaining plate 42a. That is, the retaining plate 42b includes a second guide surface that contacts a second end surface located on the other side of the rollers 20c and 20d to guide the rollers 20c and 20d. The retaining plate 42b also includes a groove that is recessed to accommodate the retaining band 43b.

[0025] The end seal 27a is positioned on one longitudinal side of the first end cap 23a. The end seal 27b is positioned on the other longitudinal side of the second end cap 23b. The slider 21a further includes a lubricating member for applying lubricating oil. The end seals 27a and the lubricating member are attached to the casing 22a together with the first end cap 23a by bolts 26a, 26b, 26c, and 26d. Similar to the end seal 27a, the end seals 27b and the lubricating member are attached to the casing 22a together with the second end cap 23b by a plurality of bolts. The configuration of the end seal 27a will be described in detail later. The casing 22a is provided with a plurality of through holes 25 that penetrate in the Z direction, each having a screw groove formed on its inner circumferential surface. In this embodiment, there are six through holes 25. The six through holes 25 are spaced apart in the X and Y directions, respectively, and are used, for example, when connecting the slider 21a to other members.

[0026] The casing 22a includes second raceway surfaces 32a, 32b, 32c, and 32d that are opposite to the first raceway surfaces 16a, 16b, 16c, and 16d, respectively. The track 31a on which the roller 20a rolls is composed of the first raceway surface 16a and the second raceway surface 32a. The track 31b on which the roller 20b rolls is composed of the first raceway surface 16b and the second raceway surface 32b. The track 31c on which the roller 20c rolls is composed of the first raceway surface 16c and the second raceway surface 32d. The track 31d on which the roller 20d rolls is composed of the first raceway surface 16d and the second raceway surface 32d.

[0027] The casing 22a is provided with first circulation paths 33a, 33b, 33c, and 33d, which run parallel to the track paths 31a, 31b, 31c, and 31d, respectively. The first circulation paths 33a, 33b, 33c, and 33d are also called return paths. A hollow cylindrical sleeve 34a, formed by combining a first dividing member 35a and a second dividing member 36a, is arranged inside the first circulation path 33a. Multiple rollers 20a move inside the sleeve 34a. Similarly, a hollow cylindrical sleeve 34b, formed by combining a first dividing member 35b and a second dividing member 36b, is arranged inside the first circulation path 33b. A hollow cylindrical sleeve 34c, formed by combining a first dividing member 35c and a second dividing member 36c, is arranged inside the first circulation path 33c. A hollow cylindrical sleeve 34d, formed by combining a first dividing member 35d and a second dividing member 36d, is arranged inside the first circulation path 33d. The casing 22a includes a first guide surface that contacts the first end face located on one side of the rollers 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d and guides the rollers 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d.

[0028] The first end cap 23a is provided with a second circulation path 37a (see Figure 3 in particular). The second end cap 23b is provided with a second circulation path 38a. The second circulation paths 37a and 38a are also called direction change paths. The second circulation paths 37a and 38a connect the track path 31a and the first circulation path 33a, respectively. Multiple rollers 20a circulate in a ring path formed by the track path 31a, the second circulation path 37a, the first circulation path 33a, and the second circulation path 38a. Multiple rollers 20b circulate in a ring path formed by the track path 31b, the second circulation path of the first end cap 23a, the first circulation path 33b, and the second circulation path of the second end cap 23b. Multiple rollers 20c circulate in a ring path formed by the track 31c, the second circulation path of the first end cap 23a, the first circulation path 33c, and the second circulation path of the second end cap 23b. Multiple rollers 20d circulate in a ring path formed by the track 31d, the second circulation path of the first end cap 23a, the first circulation path 33d, and the second circulation path of the second end cap 23b.

[0029] Here, the configuration of the end seal 27a (first end seal) will be described in detail. Figure 4 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the end seal 27a when it is cut at the center in the X direction by a plane parallel to the YZ plane. Note that the configuration of the end seal 27b (second end seal) is the same as that of the end seal 27a, so its explanation will be omitted.

[0030] The end seal 27a is made of rubber. The material of the end seal 27a is nitrile rubber (NBR), fluororubber (FKM), or hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR). By using nitrile rubber as the material of the end seal 27a, the compression set, tensile strength, and abrasion resistance required for a sealing component can be made relatively good. By using fluororubber as the material of the end seal 27a, for example, when the linear motion guide unit 10a is used in a special environment, oil resistance, chemical resistance, weather resistance, and ozone resistance can be made good. By using hydrogenated nitrile rubber as the material of the end seal 27a, heat resistance, oil resistance, and weather resistance can be made better compared to when nitrile rubber is used. In this embodiment, the material of the end seal 27a is nitrile rubber.

[0031] The end seal 27a includes a first lip portion 51a, a second lip portion 52a, and a plate-shaped portion 53a. The plate-shaped portion 53a is a flat plate with the Y direction as the thickness direction and is arranged parallel to the XZ plane. The plate-shaped portion 53a is provided with a through hole 54a that penetrates in the thickness direction. The plate-shaped portion 53a is also provided with a recess 55a that is concave in the thickness direction, and a lubricating member 56a is placed in this recess 55a.

[0032] The first lip portion 51a protrudes from one side in the thickness direction of the plate-like portion 53a, and also protrudes from the rail 11a side. When the end seal 27a is attached, the first lip portion 51a elastically deforms and contacts the upper end surface 12a of the rail, a part of the first rail side surface 13a, and a part of the second rail side surface 13b at the nip portion 57a. In addition, the first lip portion 51a is exposed on the outward side when the end seal 27a is attached.

[0033] The second lip portion 52a protrudes to the other side in the thickness direction of the plate-like portion 53a, and also protrudes towards the rail 11a. The second lip portion 52a is formed with a gap in the Y direction from the first lip portion 51a. When the end seal 27a is installed, the second lip portion 52a elastically deforms and contacts the upper end surface 12a of the rail, a part of the first rail side surface 13a, and a part of the second rail side surface 13b at the nip portion 58a. Furthermore, when the end seal 27a is installed, the second lip portion 52a is not exposed to the outside and is not visible from the outside. When the end seal 27a is installed, a space 59a is formed between the first lip portion 51a and the second lip portion 52a in the Y direction. An end seal 27a with this configuration employs a so-called double lip structure, which can improve sealing performance.

[0034] Here, in the second lip portion 52a, the interference fit in the first region 61a facing the first track surfaces 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d is greater than the interference fit in the second region 62a facing the surfaces other than the first track surfaces 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d. Figure 5 is a schematic front view of the end seal 27a in the longitudinal direction. Referring to Figure 5, the region where the first region 61a is located is shown by a dashed line, and the region where the second region 62a is located is shown by a double dashed line. Specifically, the surfaces other than the first track surfaces 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d include the side wall surfaces 17a, 17b of the rail 11a and the upper end surface 12a of the rail. Furthermore, surfaces other than the first track surfaces 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d include the surfaces from the upper end surface 12a of the rail to the first track surfaces 16a, 16c, the surfaces from the first track surfaces 16a, 16c to the side wall surfaces 17a, 17b, the surfaces from the side wall surfaces 17a, 17b to the first track surfaces 16b, 16d, the surfaces from the first track surfaces 16b, 16d to the lower end surface of the slider 21a on the first rail side surface 13a, and the surfaces from the first track surfaces 16b, 16d to the lower end surface of the slider 21a on the second rail side surface 13b. Also, in this embodiment, the overlap in the first region 61a and the overlap in the first lip portion 51a are equal.

[0035] Figure 6 is an enlarged cross-sectional view showing a portion of the end seal 27a at the position where the first region 61a is located. For ease of understanding, the rail 11a is shown with a dashed line in Figure 6 and in Figures 7 and 8 below. Referring to Figure 6, with the end seal 27a not attached, the overlap of the first lip portion 51a, that is, the length from the surface 19a of the rail 11a to the tip 63a of the first lip portion 51a when the end seal 27a is attached, is indicated by length D1. This surface 19a of the rail 11a corresponds to, for example, the first track surface 16b. The overlap of the second lip portion 52a, that is, the length from the surface 19a of the rail 11a to the tip 64a of the second lip portion 52a, is indicated by length D2. In this embodiment, length D1 = length D2.

[0036] Figure 7 is an enlarged cross-sectional view showing a portion of the end seal 27a at the position where the second region 62a is located. Referring to Figure 7, when the end seal 27a is not installed, the overlap of the second lip portion 52a, that is, the length from the surface 19a of the rail 11a to the tip 65a of the second lip portion 52a when the end seal 27a is installed, is indicated by length D3. This surface 19a of the rail 11a corresponds, for example, to the upper end surface 12a of the rail. The overlap of the first lip portion 51a, that is, the length from the surface 19a of the rail 11a to the tip 65a of the first lip portion 51a, is indicated by length D1. In this embodiment, length D1 > length D3.

[0037] According to the linear motion guide unit 10a described above, the interference fit in the first region 61a is smaller than the interference fit in the second region 62a, thus reducing the displacement of the end seal 27a. Therefore, with such a linear motion guide unit 10a, smooth sliding motion of the slider 21a can be ensured while maintaining high sealing performance.

[0038] Furthermore, simulation results using the finite element method showed that the displacement of the end seal 27a in the linear motion guide unit 10a of this disclosure was less than one-quarter of that when a tightening allowance was provided in the entire region that contacts the rail 11a.

[0039] In this embodiment, the overlap in the first region 61a and the overlap in the first lip portion 51a are equal. Therefore, the sealing performance can be improved.

[0040] (Embodiment 2) Next, another embodiment, Embodiment 2, will be described. Figure 8 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing a part of the linear guide unit in Embodiment 2 of this disclosure.
