Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a radiator unit for a saddle-ride vehicle or an ATV. [Background technology]
[0002] A radiator unit for saddle-ride vehicles (including motorcycles, three-wheeled vehicles, buggies, and saddle-ride ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles)) or non-saddle-ride ATVs has been proposed that includes a radiator, a radiator fan disposed on the rear side of the radiator, and a shroud that covers the periphery and rear of the radiator fan to guide the wind drawn into the radiator by the radiator fan (see Patent Document 1). In the above-mentioned prior art, the radiator fan is attached to a shroud, and the shroud is attached to the radiator. On the other hand, radiator units for saddle-ride vehicles or ATVs that do not have a shroud are also provided. This type of radiator unit for a saddle-ride vehicle or ATV includes a radiator, a radiator fan disposed behind the radiator, and a bracket attached to the radiator to support the radiator fan. The radiator fan includes a motor supported by the bracket, a number of fan blades rotated by the motor, and a fan ring connected to the outer circumferential ends of the fan blades. In both the former and latter radiator units for saddle-ride vehicles or ATVs, when the vehicle is traveling at high speed, the wind passing through the radiator dissipates heat from the radiator, while when the vehicle is stopped or traveling at low speed, the radiator fan rotates to pass cooling air through the radiator, thereby dissipating heat from the radiator. [0003] [Patent Document 1] Patent No. 6828474 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0004] However, a radiator unit for a saddle-ride vehicle or ATV equipped with the former shroud has the disadvantage that the shroud creates air resistance when the vehicle is traveling at high speeds, reducing the flow rate of air passing through the radiator and decreasing the heat dissipation performance of the radiator. In contrast, the latter radiator unit for saddle-ride vehicles or ATVs does not have a shroud, so there is less air resistance generated when the vehicle is traveling at high speeds and the flow rate of the wind passing through the radiator can be secured, which is advantageous in terms of ensuring the heat dissipation performance of the radiator. However, since the latter radiator unit for saddle-ride vehicles or ATVs does not have a shroud, when the radiator fan rotates while the vehicle is stopped or traveling at low speed, there is a concern that an airflow will flow in through the gap between the back of the radiator and the fan ring, which will not pass through the radiator and will not contribute to heat dissipation, i.e., a short-circuit air flow, thereby reducing the amount of air passing through the radiator, and there is room for improvement in improving the heat dissipation performance of the radiator. The present invention has been made in consideration of the above circumstances, and relates to a radiator unit for a saddle-ride vehicle or ATV that does not have a shroud, and has an object to provide a radiator unit for a saddle-ride vehicle or ATV that is advantageous in suppressing short-circuiting air flow and improving heat dissipation performance. [Means for solving the problem]
[0005] In order to achieve the above object, one embodiment of the present invention is a radiator unit for a saddle-ride vehicle or ATV, comprising a radiator 22 and a radiator fan 24 arranged next to each other, and a bracket 42 attached to the radiator 22 to support the radiator fan 24, the radiator fan 24 having a motor 36 supported by the bracket 42, a plurality of fan blades 38 rotated by the motor 36, and a fan ring 40 connected to the outer circumferential ends of the plurality of fan blades 38, and is characterized in that a short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is integrally formed with the bracket 42 to cover a gap S1 between the radiator 22 and the fan ring 40 when viewed from a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 are arranged. In addition, one embodiment of the present invention is characterized in that the short-circuit flow prevention plates 26 are provided in pair so as to face each other in a direction approximately perpendicular to the direction in which the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 are arranged. In addition, one embodiment of the present invention is characterized in that the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is disposed below the gap S1. Moreover, one embodiment of the present invention is characterized in that the bracket 42 has a mudguard prevention plate 48 behind the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24, which covers only the area from below the radiator 22 to the center of the radiator fan 24 when viewed from behind, and the mudguard prevention plate 48 stands up from the rear end of the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26. Effect of the Invention
[0006] According to one embodiment of the present invention, at the location where the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is installed, it is possible to prevent short-circuit flow from around the radiator 22 through the gap S1 between the radiator 22 and the fan ring 40 and into the radiator fan 24, which is advantageous in increasing the amount of air passing through the radiator 22 when the vehicle is stopped or traveling at low speeds, and improves the heat dissipation performance of the radiator 22. Furthermore, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the short-circuit flow prevention plates 26 are provided in two locations facing each other, so that short-circuit flow can be prevented at the two locations where the short-circuit flow prevention plates 26 are provided, which is more advantageous in increasing the amount of air passing through the radiator 22 when the vehicle is stopped or traveling at a low speed, and is more advantageous in improving the heat dissipation performance of the radiator 22. Furthermore, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the location where the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is provided also functions as a mudguard plate to prevent pebbles kicked up by the front wheel 16 from colliding with the radiator 22 or the radiator fan 24 during driving, and to prevent mud kicked up by the front wheel 16 from adhering to the radiator 22 or the radiator fan 24, which is advantageous in improving the durability of the radiator unit for saddle-ride vehicles or ATVs. Furthermore, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the mudguard plate 48 is provided at the location where it is advantageous in preventing pebbles from colliding with the radiator 22 or the radiator fan 24 and preventing mud from adhering to the radiator 22 or the radiator fan 24 during travel, which is advantageous in increasing the durability of the radiator unit 20C for a saddle-ride vehicle or ATV. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0008] (First embodiment) First, a first embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4. FIG. In this embodiment, a radiator unit for a saddle-ride vehicle or ATV of the present invention will be described as being applied to a motorcycle, which is a saddle-ride vehicle; however, the present invention can be applied to various conventionally known saddle-ride vehicles such as three-wheeled motor vehicles, three-wheeled motor vehicles, four-wheeled motor vehicles and ATVs, or ATVs that are not saddle-ride vehicles. In the following drawings, the symbol FR indicates the front of the vehicle, the symbol UP indicates the top of the vehicle, the symbol L indicates the left side of the vehicle, and the symbol R indicates the right side of the vehicle, and these symbols "front," "left," and "right" refer to the directions seen by a rider riding a motorcycle.
[0009] As shown in FIG. 1, a motorcycle 10 includes a frame 14 on which a water-cooled engine 12 is mounted, and a front wheel 16 supported by the frame 14 so as to be steerable. The radiator unit 20A for a saddle-riding vehicle cools the cooling water of the water-cooled engine 12 by cooling air, and is disposed behind the upper part of the front wheel 16. The radiator unit 20A for a saddle-riding vehicle is attached to the water-cooled engine 12 or the frame 14 via a bracket (not shown). As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the radiator unit 20A for a saddle-ride vehicle includes a radiator 22, a radiator fan 24, a bracket 42, and a short-circuit flow prevention plate 26. The majority of the radiator unit 20A for a saddle-ride vehicle is disposed inside the cowling 18, with the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 aligned in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle, in other words, aligned in the direction in which the cooling air (traveling air) introduced from the air outlet 1802 of the cowling 18 passes.
[0010] As shown in FIG. 4, the radiator 22 is provided in a substantially rectangular plate shape having a height in the up-down direction, a width in the vehicle width direction, and a thickness in the vehicle front-rear direction. The radiator 22 cools the cooling water by passing cooling air in the thickness direction thereof, and one end of the radiator 22 in the thickness direction is a front surface 22A through which the cooling air is introduced, and the other end in the thickness direction is a back surface 22B through which the cooling air is discharged. In this embodiment, radiator 22 is arranged with its width direction aligned with the vehicle width direction, its front surface 22A facing forward, and its center in the width direction coinciding with the center in the vehicle width direction. In this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1, radiator 22 is inclined so as to be displaced forward as it approaches the upper position when viewed from the vehicle width direction of motorcycle 10.
[0011] As shown in FIG. 2, the radiator 22 includes a radiator core 28, and an upstream tank 30A and a downstream tank 30B provided on both sides of the radiator core 28 in the width direction. The radiator core 28 is constructed by stacking flat tubes and cooling fins in the height direction of the radiator core 28, which extend in the width direction of the radiator core 28 and through which cooling water flows, and the cooling water flowing through the flat tubes is cooled by cooling air passing through the cooling fins between adjacent flat tubes in the height direction of the radiator core 28 from the front side 22A to the back side 22B of the radiator core 28. In this specification, the thickness direction of radiator core 28 (radiator 22) is the direction in which cooling air passes through radiator core 28 (radiator 22), the height direction of radiator core 28 (radiator 22) is the direction perpendicular to the width direction of radiator core 28 (radiator 22) in the approximately vertical direction, and the width direction of radiator core 28 (radiator 22) is the direction perpendicular to the height and thickness directions of radiator core 28 (radiator 22). The upstream tank 30A is a location into which the cooling water supplied from the water-cooled engine 12 flows, and the cooling water is supplied from the upstream tank 30A to the upstream ends of the flat tubes. The downstream tank 30B is a location into which the cooling water cooled by the radiator core 28 flows from the downstream ends of the flat tubes, and the cooling water is supplied to the water-cooled engine 12 from the downstream tank 30B. The upstream tank 30A and the downstream tank 30B may be made of metal or synthetic resin.
[0012] Core supports 32A and 32B are attached to the upper and lower parts of the radiator core 28, respectively, and both ends of the core supports 32A and 32B are connected to an upstream tank 30A and a downstream tank 30B. In FIG. 2, reference numeral 34A denotes an inlet pipe for cooling water provided in the upstream tank 30A, and reference numeral 34B denotes an outlet pipe for cooling water provided in the downstream tank 30B.
[0013] As shown in FIG. 2, the radiator fan 24 includes a motor 36, a plurality of fan blades 38 that are rotationally driven by the motor 36, and a fan ring 40 that connects outer circumferential ends 3802 of the plurality of fan blades 38. The bracket 42 is made of synthetic resin and is attached to the radiator 22 to support the motor 36 . As shown in FIG. 4, the bracket 42 positions the fan blades 38 in the center of the radiator 22 in close proximity to the rear surface 22B of the radiator 22 with a gap therebetween, and positions the front surface of the fan ring 40 in the center of the radiator 22 in close proximity to the rear surface 22B of the radiator 22 with a gap S1 therebetween. In FIG. 4, the bracket 42 is omitted so that the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 can be clearly seen. Furthermore, the dimension of the gap S1 is about 1 mm to 8 mm, and the gap S1 is provided to prevent contact between the radiator fan 24 and the rear surface 22B of the radiator 22 due to vibrations during driving.
[0014] As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the bracket 42 has a motor-side mounting portion 44 that is attached to the motor 36, a radiator-side mounting portion 45 that is attached to the radiator 22, and a pair of stay portions 46A, 46B that connect the mounting portions 44, 45. The motor side mounting portion 44 has a ring plate portion 4402 that is abutted against three flanges (not shown) provided on the motor 36, and the motor side mounting portion 44 is attached to the motor 36 by screwing a bolt inserted into a bolt insertion hole 4404 of the ring plate portion 4402 into the female thread of the flange. The pair of stay portions 46A, 46B protrude from above and below the motor side mounting portion 44, respectively, and a radiator side mounting portion 45 is provided at the tip of each of the stay portions. The pair of stay portions 46A, 46B extend at a location away from the plurality of fan blades 38 on the rear surface 22B side of the radiator 22. As shown in FIG. 2, the radiator side mounting portion 45 is attached to the mounting pieces 3202 of the core supports 32A and 32B via bolts and nuts.
[0015] Also, as shown in FIG. 4(A), when viewing the radiator 22 from the rear surface 22B side, the outer periphery of the fan ring 40 is positioned closer to the center of the radiator fan 24 than the upper core support 32A of the radiator core 28 and the lower core support 32B of the radiator core 28. In this embodiment, the shortest distance D2 between the outer periphery of the fan ring 40 and the lower core support 32B of the radiator core 28 is within 30 mm, and this shortest distance D2 is shorter than the shortest distance D1 between the outer periphery of the fan ring 40 and the upper core support 32A of the radiator core 28.
[0016] As shown in FIG. 4(C), when the radiator fan 24 rotates while the vehicle is stopped or traveling at low speed, the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 blocks the air flow that flows from around the radiator 22 through the gap S1 between the back surface 22B of the radiator 22 and the front surface of the fan ring 40 and enters the radiator fan 24, i.e., the short-circuit flow that does not pass through the radiator 22 and does not contribute to heat dissipation, and improves the heat dissipation performance of the radiator 22 by ensuring the volume of air flow passing from the front surface 22A to the back surface 22B of the radiator 22. The short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 only needs to be provided in one location around the radiator 22, and in this embodiment, it is provided below the gap S1 so as to block the air flow that passes from below the radiator 22 through the gap S1 between the back surface 22B of the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 and flows into the radiator fan 24. This is because, as described above, the shortest distance D2 between the outer periphery of the fan ring 40 and the lower core support 32B of the radiator core 28 is smaller than the shortest distance D1 between the outer periphery of the fan ring 40 and the upper core support 32A of the radiator core 28. As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is provided integrally with a portion of the lower stay portion 46B close to the radiator side mounting portion 45 and with the lower radiator side mounting portion 45.
[0017] The short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 has a length along the vehicle fore-and-aft direction and a width in the vehicle width direction, and is positioned so that its widthwise center approximately coincides with the widthwise center of the radiator 22, as shown in Figure 4(C). As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 has a narrow base 2602 that is attached to a portion of the lower stay portion 46B near the radiator side mounting portion 45 and to the lower radiator side mounting portion 45, and the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 has a flat plate shape including this base 2602, and as shown in Figure 4(C), the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is arranged parallel to the lower core support 32B of the radiator core 28 of the radiator 22 and is arranged parallel to the axis of the radiator fan 24.
[0018] The short circuit flow prevention plate 26 may be attached to the lower core support 32B of the radiator core 28 without any gap, or may be arranged with a gap, and in this embodiment it is arranged with a gap S2 as shown in Figure 4 (C). As shown in FIG. 4(B), the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is located on a part of the radiator core 28 when viewed from below, and covers almost the entire thickness of the radiator core 28 within its width, and is long enough that its rear end is positioned rearward of the rear surface of the fan ring 40, as shown in FIG. 4(C). That is, as shown in Figures 4(B) and (C), the radiator 22 is provided with a short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 which is located in a part of the radiator core 28 when viewed from below in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 are arranged and which covers the gap S1 between the rear surface 22B of the radiator 22 and the fan ring 40 in the vehicle longitudinal direction within the width of the gap. In this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 4(C), the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is provided below the gap S1 with a length that extends from a front portion of the gap S1 to a rear portion of the gap S1. In addition, the greater the width of the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26, the better; however, in this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 4(A), the width is formed to be approximately half the diameter of the fan ring 40 of the radiator fan 24.
[0019] According to this embodiment, since the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is positioned around the radiator 22, not only is the heat dissipation performance of the radiator 22 ensured by the wind passing through the radiator 22 as in the conventional case when the vehicle is traveling at high speed, but when the vehicle is stopped or traveling at low speed, the air flow flowing from around the radiator 22 through the gap S1 between the back surface 22B of the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 and flowing into the radiator fan 24 at the location where the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is provided, i.e., the short-circuit flow, can be prevented. This is advantageous in increasing the amount of air passing through the radiator 22 when the vehicle is stopped or traveling at a low speed, and is advantageous in improving the heat dissipation performance of the radiator 22. Also, in this embodiment, the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is positioned behind the upper part of the front wheel 16 and below the radiator 22, so that at the location where the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is provided, it also functions as a mudguard plate to prevent pebbles kicked up by the front wheel 16 from colliding with the radiator 22 or the radiator fan 24 and to prevent mud kicked up by the front wheel 16 from adhering to the radiator 22 or the radiator fan 24 during driving, which is advantageous in terms of increasing the durability of the radiator unit 20A for a saddle-riding vehicle. Furthermore, in this embodiment, the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26, which is integral with the bracket 42 supporting the radiator fan 24, is positioned below the gap S1, and functions mainly as a mudguard plate that prevents pebbles and mud from below from adhering to the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24. This eliminates the need to provide a mudguard plate separate from the bracket 42 below the radiator 22, which is advantageous in terms of simplifying the assembly work, reducing the number of parts, and reducing weight.
[0020] As shown in FIG. 4(A), in the vertical direction of the vehicle, in other words, in the height direction of the radiator 22, it is more advantageous in preventing short-circuit flows to set the distance L between the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 and the outer peripheral surface of the fan ring 40 to 30 mm or less. Furthermore, as shown in FIG. 4C, it is more preferable for enhancing the effect of preventing the short-circuit flow to configure the portion of the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 facing the gap S1 only with a flat surface. Furthermore, when viewed from around the radiator 22, such as in the vehicle width direction or the vehicle up-down direction, even if the front end of the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 and the rear surface 22B of the radiator 22 are located at the same location in the vehicle fore-and-aft direction, and the rear end of the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 and the front surface of the fan ring 40 are located at the same location in the vehicle fore-and-aft direction, the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 can cover the gap S1 of the radiator fan 24 in the vehicle fore-and-aft direction, thereby exerting the effect of preventing short-circuit flow. However, as in this embodiment, when viewed from the surroundings of the radiator 22, the gap S1 is covered by the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26, the front end of the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 protrudes forward from the rear surface 22B of the radiator 22, and the rear end of the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 protrudes rearward from the rear surface of the fan ring 40, which is more preferable in terms of enhancing the effect of preventing short-circuit flows.
[0021] (Second embodiment) Next, a second embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. In the following embodiment, the description of the same points as in the first embodiment will be simplified or omitted, and the description will focus on the points that are different from the first embodiment. In FIG. 6, similarly to the first embodiment, the bracket 42 is omitted so that the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 can be clearly seen. In the second embodiment of the radiator unit 20B for a saddle-ride vehicle, a pair of short-circuit flow prevention plates 26 are provided facing each other in a direction approximately perpendicular to the direction in which the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 are arranged, and in this embodiment, a pair of short-circuit flow prevention plates 26 are provided above and below the radiator 22. That is, in addition to the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 in the first embodiment, a short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 is also provided above the radiator 22.
[0022] The short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 provided above the radiator 22 is provided integrally with a portion of the upper stay portion 46A near the radiator side mounting portion 45 and with the upper radiator side mounting portion 45, as in the first embodiment, and covers within its width so as to straddle the gap S1 between the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 in the vehicle fore-and-aft direction when viewed from above, which is a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 are arranged, and thus has approximately the same effect in preventing short-circuit flows as the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 of the first embodiment. According to the second embodiment, the short-circuit flow prevention plates 26 are provided at two locations so as to face each other, so that short-circuit flow can be prevented at the two locations where the short-circuit flow prevention plates 26 are provided. Therefore, compared to the first embodiment, this is more advantageous in increasing the amount of air passing through the radiator 22 when the vehicle is stopped or traveling at a low speed, and is more advantageous in improving the heat dissipation performance of the radiator 22.
[0023] (Third embodiment) Next, a third embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. In FIG. 9, in order to clearly show the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26, the pair of stay portions 46A, 46B of the bracket 42 are not shown, and only the motor side mounting portion 44 is shown. The radiator unit 20C for a saddle-ride vehicle of the third embodiment is a modified example of the first embodiment, and the third embodiment has an improved mudguard function and an improved function of preventing short-circuit flow compared to the first embodiment. That is, in the third embodiment, a mudguard plate 48 is provided on the bracket 42 in addition to the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 of the first embodiment.
[0024] The mudguard plate 48 is constituted by a plate body standing upright from the rear end of the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 . As shown in Figures 9(A) and (C), the upper part of the mudguard plate 48 faces only the lower part of the radiator fan 24 from behind with a gap therebetween, and the lower part of the mudguard plate 48 faces only the lower part of the back surface 22B of the radiator 22 located radially outside the radiator fan 24 from behind. In other words, the mudguard protection plate 48 covers only the area behind the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 from below the radiator 22 to the center of the radiator fan 24 when viewed from the rear. In other words, the mudguard plate 48 faces the lower part of the radiator fan 24 and the lower part of the radiator 22 from the rear of the vehicle, with the upper part of the radiator fan 24 and the upper part of the radiator 22 open to the rear of the vehicle. As shown in FIG. 8, one side of the plate constituting the mudguard plate 48 is connected to the lower stay portion 46B, and the other side is connected to the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26. In detail, the mudguard plate 48 is integrally formed with the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26, the lower stay portion 46B of the bracket 42, and the ring plate portion 4402, and the entire areas of the mudguard plate 48 located on the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 side, the stay portion 46B side, and the ring plate portion 4402 side are connected without any gaps to the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26, the stay portion 46B, and the ring plate portion 4402. A plurality of windows 50 extending in an arc shape coaxially with the motor 36 are formed through the mudguard plate 48, and in this embodiment, two windows 50 are formed through the mudguard plate 48. Therefore, in the area where the mudguard plate 48 is located rearward of the radiator fan 24, the cooling air passes through the two windows 50 and is discharged rearward, which is advantageous in improving the heat dissipation performance of the radiator unit 20C for a saddle-type vehicle. In addition, the mudguard plate 48 is configured as a plate body sized to face the lower part of the radiator fan 24 and the lower part of the radiator 22 from the rear of the vehicle when the upper part of the radiator fan 24 and the upper part of the radiator 22 are open to the rear of the vehicle. In addition, the mudguard plate 48 and the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 have substantially the same width in the vehicle width direction.
[0025] According to the third embodiment, it is more advantageous to prevent pebbles kicked up by the front wheel 16 from colliding with the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 and to prevent mud kicked up by the front wheel 16 from adhering to the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 at the locations where the mudguard plates 48 are provided, which is more advantageous in improving the durability of the radiator unit 20C for a saddle-riding vehicle. In other words, not only can the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 prevent pebbles and mud from below from adhering to the radiator 22 and radiator fan 24, but the mudguard plate 48 can also prevent pebbles and mud from the rear from adhering to the radiator 22 and radiator fan 24, which is more advantageous in improving the mudguard function than the first embodiment. As in the first embodiment, the short-circuit flow prevention plate 26 prevents short-circuit flow from around the radiator 22 through the gap S1 between the back surface 22B of the radiator 22 and the radiator fan 24 and into the radiator fan 24, which is advantageous in improving the heat dissipation performance of the radiator 22. The mudguard plate 48 of the third embodiment can of course also be applied to the second embodiment.
