To provide a method and device for cultivating algae that can cultivate algae by utilizing the exhaust heat generated by a ship's engine, does not require a large workspace in the ship, and cultivates algae at low cost without deploying personnel for algae cultivation on the ship.SOLUTION: An algae culture device 1 is a device for carrying out a sowing or planting process and a harvesting process of algae on land, and a cultivation process on board a ship F1, comprising: a mixing tank 3 that prepares culture water by mixing seawater and warm wastewater obtained by heating the seawater with the heat of an engine F2 of the ship F1; a culture tank 4 that supplies culture water and air and further cultivates algae by irradiating it with light; a wastewater sterilization unit 9 that sterilizes the culture wastewater discharged from the culture tank 4 by mixing sterilizing water containing sodium hypochlorite; and a control unit 2 that automatically controls a temperature of the culture water in the culture tank 4, an irradiation time of the light irradiated on the algae, and an amount of sterilizing water mixed into the culture wastewater in the wastewater sterilization unit 9.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
