[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS This application claims priority to Chinese patent application No. 202010259301.1, entitled “Battery Module, Battery Pack and Apparatus Using Secondary Battery,” filed on April 3, 2020, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
[0002] Technical Field The present application relates to the field of batteries, and in particular to battery modules, battery packs, and devices that use secondary batteries. [Background technology]
[0003] In recent years, rechargeable batteries have been widely applied to provide power to high-power devices, such as electric vehicles. In order to achieve high capacity or power, rechargeable batteries generally connect multiple battery cells to electrode terminals via bus bars to form at least one of a series connection and a parallel connection. However, during the use of the battery, as the number of charge / discharge cycles increases, the battery expands, and the electrode terminals are pulled by the bus bars due to the expansion, which affects the reliability of the battery. Summary of the Invention [Means for solving the problem]
[0004] Summary of the Invention The present application provides a battery module, a battery pack, and an apparatus using a secondary battery, which can improve the reliability of battery use.
[0005] According to a first aspect of the present application, a battery module is provided, comprising: a battery cell unit including at least two battery cells arranged along a third direction and equipped with electrode terminals; and a first busbar including a main body portion and two connection portions, an extension direction of the first busbar being inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to the third direction, the two connection portions being respectively connected to electrode terminals of two battery cells in the same battery cell unit, the main body portion being connected between the two connection portions and a deformation guide portion being provided on the main body portion, the deformation guide portion being configured to at least reduce a force required for the main body portion to deform along the first direction, the first direction being parallel to a side on which the electrode terminals of the battery cells are installed and perpendicular to the third direction.
[0006] In the battery module of the embodiment of the present application, a deformation inducer is provided in the main body portion, and the force required for the main body portion to deform along the first direction is at least reduced. This allows the first busbar to easily deform in the first direction when the cells in the battery cell expand, reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminal. This not only ensures the reliability of the connection between the electrode terminal and the cell, but also allows the busbar to easily break when thermal runaway occurs, improving the safety of battery operation.
[0007] In some embodiments, the deformation guide comprises a slit, the slit extending through a thickness of the body portion.
[0008] In the battery module according to the embodiment of the present application, the cross-sectional area of the first bus bar in the width direction can be reduced by providing the slits, and the rigidity in the width direction can be reduced, and since the width direction of the first bus bar is inclined with respect to the third direction, the force required for the body to deform in the first and third directions can be reduced at the same time, thereby reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminals. Moreover, when thermal runaway occurs, the weak portion where the slits are provided is easily melted to break the circuit.
[0009] In some embodiments, the slit comprises two lateral grooves extending along the width of the first busbar and spaced apart along the length of the first busbar.
[0010] In the battery module of the embodiment of the present application, by providing a lateral groove extending along the width direction of the first bus bar, the cross-sectional area of the first bus bar in the width direction can be effectively reduced in a local region, reducing the rigidity in the width direction, and thereby effectively reducing the force required for the main body to deform along the first and third directions, and reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminals.
[0011] In some embodiments, the slit further includes a longitudinal groove, the longitudinal groove extending along the length of the first busbar, and both ends of the longitudinal groove communicating with two transverse grooves, respectively.
[0012] In the battery module according to the embodiment of the present application, by increasing the number of longitudinal grooves extending along the length of the first busbar, the cross-sectional area in the width direction of the first busbar can be uniformly reduced within a certain length section of the body, reducing the width direction rigidity of the length section, and when the first busbar is subjected to an external force, the first busbar deforms uniformly as a whole, reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminals, and preventing the first busbar from being significantly locally deformed, thereby affecting its service life. In addition, the longitudinal grooves can also reduce the effect on the discharge capacity of the first busbar.
[0013] In some embodiments, the slit further includes two longitudinal grooves extending along the length of the first busbar and spaced apart, with one end of each longitudinal groove communicating with a corresponding transverse groove.
[0014] In the battery module of the embodiment of the present application, the two longitudinal grooves extend along the length of the first busbar and are spaced apart from each other, and one end of each longitudinal groove communicates with a corresponding transverse groove, thereby reducing the rigidity of the first busbar and improving the reliability of its connection to the electrode terminal.
[0015] In some embodiments, the deformation inducer includes a recess, the recess being disposed laterally in a width direction of the body portion and configured to reduce a width of the body portion.
[0016] In the battery module of the present application, by providing the recesses, the effect of the slits can be strengthened, the rigidity of the first bus bar in the width direction can be further reduced, and the force required for the body to deform along the first and third directions can be further reduced, thereby reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminals, improving the reliability of the connection between the first bus bar and the electrode terminals, and easily disconnecting the circuit in the event of thermal runaway, thereby improving the reliability and safety of the operation of the battery module.
[0017] In some embodiments, the body portion has a recess on either side of its width.
[0018] In the battery module according to the embodiment of the present application, a recess is provided on both sides of the body in the width direction, making the structure of both sides of the first busbar in the width direction symmetrical and allowing it to receive a uniform force. In addition, the rigidity of the center position in the length direction can be weakened, so that the first busbar can be easily deformed when one of the two electrode terminals applies an external force to the first busbar. In addition, the distance from the center position to the adjacent layer is closer than the distance to the first explosion-proof valve of the battery cell, so that the first busbar can be easily melted in the event of thermal runaway.
[0019] In some embodiments, the deformation guide portion includes a bent portion, the bent portion protruding in a thickness direction of the first bus bar relative to the connection portion.
[0020] In the battery module of the embodiment of the present application, by providing the bent portions, when a battery cell expands and an external force in the longitudinal direction is applied to the first busbar via the electrode terminal, the bent portions protrude to form an elastic structure that is easily pulled, and can absorb the external force received by the first busbar in the longitudinal direction when the battery cell expands, thereby reducing the pulling force on the electrode terminal. In addition, the bent portions increase the surface area of the main body portion to easily absorb more heat, and the recesses reduce the width of the bent portions, so that if thermal runaway occurs in the battery cell, the first busbar can be easily cut at that point, thereby improving the operational safety of the battery module.
[0021] In some embodiments, the bend protrudes in a direction away from the battery cell relative to the connection portion.
[0022] In the battery module of the present application, the bent portion protrudes from the connection portion in a direction away from the battery cell, allowing the first bus bar to be installed close to the battery cell, making the connection between the first bus bar and the electrode terminal stable and reliable, and there is sufficient space for installing the bent portion on one side of the first bus bar away from the battery cell, thereby satisfying deformation requirements.
[0023] In some embodiments, the bend is located at a central position in the longitudinal direction of the main body portion, the deformation guiding portion further includes a slit, the slit being symmetrically disposed along the longitudinal direction of the first busbar relative to the bend, and / or the deformation guiding portion further includes a recess, the recess being at least partially disposed laterally in the width direction of the first busbar at the bend, and configured to reduce the width of the first busbar.
[0024] In the battery module according to the embodiment of the present application, the bent portion is located at the center position in the longitudinal direction of the main body, and the provision of the bent portion allows the two electrode terminals to simultaneously absorb the longitudinal external force applied to the first busbar. The slits are provided symmetrically along the longitudinal direction of the first busbar with respect to the bent portion, and the recesses are at least partially provided on the lateral sides of the first busbar in the width direction at the bent portion, configured to reduce the width of the first busbar. When the battery cell expands along the third direction, the first busbar can receive the external force along the first direction and the third direction, and the cooperation of the slits, the recesses, and the bent portion allows the first busbar to deform and effectively absorb the external force received in the first direction and the third direction, thereby maximally reducing the force received by the electrode terminals and improving the reliability of the operation of the battery module.
[0025] In some embodiments, the battery cell further includes a first anti-explosion valve, and the first anti-explosion valves of the two battery cells connected to the first bus bar are respectively located on both sides of the first bus bar in the width direction.
[0026] In the battery module of the embodiment of the present application, the first explosion-proof valves of the two battery cells connected to the first bus bar are located on both sides of the first bus bar in the width direction, and if thermal runaway occurs in one of the upper or lower battery cells connected to the first bus bar, the first bus bar can be melted down, thereby protecting that battery cell.
[0027] In some embodiments, the battery cells further include a first explosion-proof valve, and the first busbar at least partially covers the first explosion-proof valve of the battery cells connected thereto.
[0028] In the battery module of the embodiment of the present application, the first busbar at least partially covers the first explosion-proof valve of the battery cell connected to it, and if thermal runaway occurs in one of the upper or lower battery cells connected to the first busbar, high-temperature gas, sparks and dust inside the battery cell will be ejected from the first explosion-proof valve and act directly on the first busbar, making it easier to melt down the first busbar.
[0029] In some embodiments, the battery module further includes a second bus bar and a plurality of battery cell units arranged along the first direction, where two adjacent battery cell units are electrically connected via the second bus bar, and the second bus bar extends along the first direction.
[0030] In the battery module of the present application, the second bus bar can realize the connection between two adjacent battery cell units, further increasing the capacity or power of the battery module.
[0031] According to a second aspect of the present application, there is provided a battery pack, which includes a box unit and the battery module of the above embodiment provided in the box unit.
[0032] In the battery pack of this embodiment, the box unit can provide protection for the battery module, and the deformation guide portion installed on the first busbar in the battery module allows the first busbar to easily deform in a first direction when a cell in the battery cell expands, reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminal, thereby ensuring the reliability of the connection between the electrode terminal and the cell, and is easily cut when thermal runaway occurs in the busbar, thereby improving the safety of battery operation.
[0033] In some embodiments, the box unit includes a box and a beam, the beam is disposed in the box and divides the box into a plurality of accommodating cavities, at least one battery module is disposed in each accommodating cavity, the electrode terminals of each battery cell in each battery module are all disposed facing the beam, and there is a predetermined gap between the battery cells and a side wall of the beam to form an exhaust passage.
[0034] In the battery module of the embodiment of the present application, if thermal runaway occurs in the battery cell, the first bus bar may melt due to the high-temperature gas, sparks, and dust ejected from the first explosion-proof valve, and the airflow will flow to both sides along the exhaust passage and pass through the gap between the end of the beam and the inner wall of the box, and be discharged to the outside by the second explosion-proof valve installed in the box, thereby reducing the temperature inside the box and improving the safety of the battery.
[0035] According to a third aspect of the present application, there is provided an apparatus using a secondary battery including at least one of the battery module and the battery pack according to the above embodiments.
[0036] In a device using a secondary battery of an embodiment of the present application, a deformation inducer installed on a first busbar in a battery module and / or a battery pack of a battery allows the first busbar to easily deform in a first direction when a cell in a battery cell expands, reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminal, thereby ensuring the reliability of the connection between the electrode terminal and the cell, and allowing the busbar to be easily cut in the event of thermal runaway, thereby improving the safety of battery operation.

They may be directly connected, or indirectly connected via a central medium. Those skilled in the art can understand the specific meaning of the above terms in the present application according to the specific situation.
[0043] As shown in Fig. 1, the present application provides an apparatus using a secondary battery, the battery including a battery module 2 or a battery pack, the battery pack may include a box unit 1 and a battery module 2, and one or more battery modules 2 are provided in the box unit 1. The apparatus using the secondary battery may include a vehicle, a steamship, an energy storage electric cabinet, or an unmanned aerial vehicle, etc. The present application aims to improve the operating reliability and safety of the battery module 2 or the battery pack, thereby improving the operating performance of the apparatus.
[0044] In order to make the improvements of the present application more clearly understandable to those in the art, the following description will be made in the order from the battery pack to the battery module 2.
[0045] As shown in FIG. 1 , the present application provides a battery pack, and in some embodiments, the battery pack includes a box unit 1 , a restraining member 10 , a top cover 13 and a plurality of battery cells 20 .
[0046] The box unit 1 includes a box 11 and a beam 12. The box 11 has an open end, and the beam 12 is fixed to the box 11, and the beam 12 may be installed in one or more pieces, and the internal space of the box 11 is divided into a plurality of receiving cavities Q, and each battery cell 20 may be divided into a plurality of groups, and the battery cells 20 of each group are respectively provided in different receiving cavities Q. A restraining member 10 is correspondingly installed to the battery cells 20 of each group, and the restraining member 10 covers the battery cells 20 of the group and is fixed to the beam 12, and is arranged to provide a stable pressing force to the battery cells 20, restrict the expansion of the battery cells 20, and extend the service life of the battery pack.
[0047] Also, referring to FIG. 1, the restraining member 10 includes a limiting portion 101 and two mounting portions 102. Here, the limiting portion 101 is covered by the battery cells 20 of the corresponding group, and the two mounting portions 102 are respectively connected to both sides of the limiting portion 101 in the grouping direction of the battery cells 20, and are respectively fixed to the beams 12 on both sides of the grouping direction of the battery cells 20 of the corresponding group, and the entire limiting portion 101 protrudes in a direction away from the battery cells 20 with respect to the two mounting portions 102. Since the expansion force received by the restraining member 10 when the entire module expands is very large, the fixing method used for the restraining member 10 is riveting and bonding, which can greatly improve the connection strength of the press plate, and can reduce the number of fasteners and reduce costs compared with connecting blind rivet nuts with screws. In addition to the riveting and bonding methods, if strength is permitted, the two mounting portions 102 of the restraining member 10 may be directly welded to the beam 12 by laser welding, thereby realizing a fastening method without fasteners. For example, the restraining member 10 is formed by bending a flat plate. In order to improve the deformation prevention ability of the restraining member 10, a reinforcing rib 103 may be provided at the limiting portion 101, for example, the reinforcing rib 103 is provided on the outer surface of the limiting portion 101 and formed by pressure molding. The provision of the reinforcing rib 103 not only improves the structural strength of the restraining member 10 and satisfies the need for weight reduction, but also increases the rigidity and deflection of the entire restraining member 10.
[0048] The top cover 13 is provided on one side of the restraining member 10 away from the box 11, and is fastened to the open end of the box 11 along the height direction of the battery pack to seal the open end of the box 11. This sealing means that the top cover 13 and the box 11 are hermetically connected, which can prevent external liquids and water vapor from entering the battery pack and improve the safety performance of the battery pack. The box 11 and the top cover 13 may be connected by bolts or other removable methods.
[0049] As shown in FIG. 4, the battery cells 20 in the battery pack can be configured into a battery module 2 to form a modular structure, and the battery module 2 can be used independently in addition to being installed in the battery pack.
[0050] 4, the battery module 2 includes a battery cell unit 2A and a first bus bar 3. The battery cell unit 2A includes at least two battery cells 20 arranged along a third direction z, and each battery cell 20 includes two electrode terminals 242, which are a positive terminal and a negative terminal, respectively.
[0051] 5, the first busbar 3 includes a body portion 32 and two connection portions 31, and the extension direction of the first busbar 3 is inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to the third direction z. The first busbar 3 and a second busbar 4 described below are also called electrical connection blades, aluminum bars, busbars, etc., and the first busbar 3 may be formed in a strip-like sheet structure.
[0052] The two connection portions 31 are respectively connected to the electrode terminals 242 of the two battery cells 20 in the same battery cell unit 2A. As shown in Fig. 4, in the same battery cell unit 2A, the maximum side surfaces of two adjacent battery cells 20 are disposed opposite each other, and the first bus bar 3 is connected to the electrode terminals 242 of the two battery cells 20 that are offset from each other.
[0053] The main body portion 32 is located between the two connection portions 31, and a deformation guiding portion is provided on the main body portion 32, and the deformation guiding portion is configured to at least reduce the force required for the main body portion 32 to deform along a first direction x, the first direction x being parallel to the side on which the electrode terminal 242 of the battery cell 20 is installed and perpendicular to the third direction z.
[0054] In this embodiment of the present application, since the first busbar 3 is inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to the third direction z, the expansion force generated when the battery cell 20 expands along the third direction z is applied to the first busbar 3 by the electrode terminal 242, so that the first busbar 3 is subjected to external forces in the length direction and width direction simultaneously.
[0055] In the related art solutions, if the battery cells are arranged along the third direction z, the busbar is generally installed parallel to the third direction z, and when the battery cells expand, an external force is applied to the busbar only in the length direction, and the design of the busbar reduces the force required for the busbar to deform along the length direction. If the busbar is installed at an angle when connected to the battery cells 20, the busbar receives a large force in the width direction when the battery cells 20 expand. In the embodiment of the present application, a deformation guide is installed in the body 32, so that the first busbar 3 can easily deform in the first direction x to absorb the external force, thereby reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminals 242 and ensuring the reliability of the connection between the electrode terminals 242 and the cells.
[0056] 4, the size of the battery cell 20 in the third direction z is smaller than the size in the first direction x, so when the battery cell 20 expands along the third direction z, the first busbar 3 is subjected to external forces in the first direction x and the third direction z simultaneously, and the external force in the first direction x is greater than the external force in the third direction z. By providing the deformation guide, the first busbar 3 can easily deform in the first direction x to absorb most of the external force, thereby obviously reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminal 242 and ensuring the reliability of the connection between the electrode terminal 242 and the cell.
[0057] 4 , the battery cell 20 further includes a first explosion-proof valve 243, which is disposed between two electrode terminals 242. Since the first busbar 3 is connected to two electrode terminals 242 of the two battery cells 20 that are offset from each other, the first busbar 3 is close to the first explosion-proof valves 243 of the two battery cells 20 connected thereto, where heat is concentrated. In addition, due to the provision of a deformation guide, the first busbar 3 can be easily cut off when thermal runaway occurs, thereby cutting off the high-voltage circuit of the entire battery module 2, and timely implementing thermal runaway warnings and protective measures, thereby improving the safety of battery operation.
[0058] 5, the deformation inducers are symmetrically installed at the center of the length of the body 32, uniformly applying force to the first busbar 3 and providing the same effect to the two battery cells 20. Furthermore, if thermal runaway occurs in a battery cell 20, the deformation inducer is installed at the center, which becomes a thermal stress concentration point in the thermal field, causing the first busbar 3 to melt down quickly and cut off the high voltage circuit of the entire module, ensuring time for a thermal runaway warning and protective measures.
[0059] The deformation inducing portion in the embodiments of the present application may have various structural forms, for example, at least one of a groove, a through groove, a slit 33, a blind hole and a through hole is provided on a side surface perpendicular to the thickness direction of the body 32, or a recess 34 is provided on a side surface perpendicular to the width direction of the body 32. As long as the first busbar 3 is made of an appropriate material and has a deformation inducing portion that reduces the rigidity of the body 32 in the first direction (x), any of them fall within the scope of protection of the present application.
[0060] 5, the deformation guide portion includes a slit 33, and the slit 33 penetrates along the thickness direction of the main body portion 32. The cross-sectional area of the first busbar 3 where the deformation guide portion is provided is configured to satisfy the discharge capacity of the first busbar 3.
[0061] In this embodiment, by providing the slits 33, the cross-sectional area in the width direction of the first bus bar 3 can be reduced, and the rigidity in the width direction can be reduced, and the width direction of the first bus bar 3 is inclined with respect to the third direction z, so that the force required for the body portion 32 to deform along the first direction x and the third direction z can be simultaneously reduced, thereby reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminal 242. Furthermore, in the event of thermal runaway, the weak portion where the slits 33 are provided is easily melted to break the circuit.
[0062] As shown in Figures 5 to 8, the slit 33 includes two lateral grooves 331 which extend along the width direction of the first busbar 3 and are spaced apart along the length direction of the first busbar 3, and the two lateral grooves 331 are provided in the central region of the width direction of the main body portion 32.
[0063] By providing lateral grooves 331 extending along the width direction of first busbar 3, the cross-sectional area of the first busbar 3 in the width direction can be effectively reduced in a localized region, reducing the stiffness in the width direction and thereby effectively reducing the force required for the main body portion 32 to deform along the first direction x and the third direction z, thereby reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminal 242.
[0064] As shown in FIG. 8 , the two lateral grooves 331 are respectively disposed at positions close to the two electrode terminals 242 in the longitudinal direction of the main body 32, so that when any one of the electrode terminals 242 applies an external force to the connected first bus bar 3, the first bus bar 3 is effectively deformed and the tensile force on the electrode terminal 242 is reduced.
[0065] As shown in Figures 5 and 6, the slit 33 further includes a longitudinal groove 332, which extends along the length of the first busbar 3, and both ends of the longitudinal groove 332 are connected to two transverse grooves 331, respectively, and the longitudinal groove 332 and the two transverse grooves 331 are all located in the central region in the width direction of the main body portion 32.
[0066] By increasing the number of longitudinal grooves 332 extending along the length of first busbar 3, the cross-sectional area in the width direction of first busbar 3 can be uniformly reduced within a predetermined length section of body 32, thereby reducing the rigidity in the width direction of the length section, and when first busbar 3 is subjected to an external force, it can be deformed uniformly as a whole, reducing the tensile force on electrode terminals 242 and preventing the service life from being affected due to large local deformation of first busbar 3. In addition, longitudinal grooves 332 can also reduce the effect on the discharge capacity of first busbar 3.
[0067] In order to ensure the connection strength, the length of the longitudinal groove 332 can be increased as much as possible. If the width of the longitudinal groove 332 is large, it will affect the discharge capacity of the first busbar 3, and by providing the transverse groove 331, the rigidity of the first busbar 3 can be further reduced while ensuring the discharge capacity of the first busbar 3, and the tensile force received by the electrode terminal 242 can be reduced to the maximum extent, so that the electrode terminal 242 can be easily cut off in the event of thermal runaway.
[0068] 7, the slit 33 further includes two longitudinal grooves 332, which extend along the length of the first busbar 3 and are spaced apart from each other, and one end of each longitudinal groove 332 communicates with a corresponding transverse groove 331. For example, the two longitudinal grooves 332 extend opposite each other, and the longitudinal grooves 332 and the transverse grooves 331 communicate with each other to form a T-shaped groove, which is symmetrically disposed at the center of the length of the body 32 and both of which are in the center region of the width of the body 32.
[0069] Such a structure can reduce the rigidity of first bus bar 3 and improve the reliability of connection to electrode terminal 242.
[0070] 6 to 8, the deformation guide portion includes a recess 34, which is provided on a lateral side in the width direction of the main body portion 32 and is configured to reduce the width of the first busbar 3. For example, the side wall of recess 34 may be arc-shaped, hyperbolic, parabolic, or the like, which can reduce stress concentration, and may also be polygonal, or the like.
[0071] By providing the recess 34, the effect of the slit 33 can be strengthened, the rigidity of the first bus bar 3 in the width direction can be further reduced, and the force required for the main body portion 32 to deform along the first direction x and the third direction z can be further reduced, thereby reducing the tensile force on the electrode terminal 242 and improving the reliability of the connection between the first bus bar 3 and the electrode terminal 242. In addition, if thermal runaway occurs, the connection can be easily cut off to break the circuit, thereby improving the reliability and safety of the operation of the battery module 2.
[0072] Still referring to Figs. 6 to 8, the recess 34 may be provided at the central position in the length direction of the main body portion 32, and for example, the recess 34 is provided on both sides in the width direction of the main body portion 32.
[0073] This structure makes the structure on both sides in the width direction of the first busbar 3 symmetrical, allowing it to receive forces uniformly. It also weakens the rigidity at the center position in the length direction, allowing it to deform more easily when either of the two electrode terminals 242 applies an external force to the first busbar 3. In addition, the distance from the center position to the adjacent layer is closer than the distance to the first explosion-proof valve 243 of the battery cell 20, allowing the first busbar 3 to melt down more easily in the event of thermal runaway.
[0074] 5, the deformation guide portion includes a bent portion 35, and the bent portion 35 protrudes from the connection portion 31 toward at least one side in the thickness direction of the first busbar 3, i.e., the bent portion 35 protrudes outward from the main body portion 32. For example, the bent portion 35 may be arc-shaped, U-shaped, rectangular, trapezoidal, or the like.
[0075] In this embodiment, by providing the bent portions 35, when the battery cells 20 expand and apply an external force in the longitudinal direction to the first busbar 3 via the electrode terminals 242, the bent portions 35 protrude to form an elastic structure that is easily pulled and can absorb the external force received by the first busbar 3 in the longitudinal direction when the battery cells 20 expand, thereby reducing the pulling force on the electrode terminals 242. Furthermore, the bent portions 35 increase the surface area of the body portion 32 to easily absorb more heat, and the recesses 34 reduce the width of the bent portions 35, so that when thermal runaway occurs in the battery cells 20, the first busbar 3 can be easily cut at these positions, thereby improving the operational safety of the battery module 2.
[0076] 4, the entire bent portion 35 protrudes in a direction away from the battery cell 20 relative to the connection portion 31. With this structure, the first bus bar 3 is installed close to the battery cell 20, the connection between the first bus bar 3 and the electrode terminal 242 is stable and reliable, and there is sufficient space on the side of the first bus bar 3 away from the battery cell 20 to install the bent portion 35, thereby satisfying deformation requirements.
[0077] As shown in FIG. 5, the bent portion 35 is located at the central position in the longitudinal direction of the main body portion 32, and by installing one bent portion 35, the two electrode terminals 242 can simultaneously absorb the longitudinal external force applied to the first busbar 3.
[0078] 4 and 5 , the deformation inducer includes a slit 33, a recess 34 and a bent portion 35, the bent portion 35 is located at the longitudinal center of the main body 32, the slit 33 is disposed symmetrically with respect to the bent portion 35 along the longitudinal direction of the first busbar 3, for example, two lateral grooves 331 of the slit 33 are located on both sides of the bent portion 35, and both ends of the longitudinal groove 332 penetrate the bent portion 35 along the longitudinal direction and communicate with the two lateral grooves 331, respectively. The recess 34 is at least partially provided on a lateral side of the bent portion 35 in the width direction of the first busbar 3, and is configured to reduce the width of the first busbar 3.
[0079] In the battery module 2 of this embodiment, when the battery cell 20 expands along the third direction z, the first bus bar 3 is subjected to external forces along the first direction x and the third direction z, and the coordinated action of the slits 33, the recesses 34 and the bent portions 35 enables the first bus bar 3 to deform and effectively absorb the external forces received in the first direction x and the third direction z, thereby minimizing the force received by the electrode terminals 242 and improving the operational reliability of the battery module 2.
[0080] 4, the battery cell 20 further includes a first explosion-proof valve 243, and the first explosion-proof valves 243 of the two battery cells 20 connected to the first bus bar 3 are respectively located on both sides in the width direction of the first bus bar 3. With this structure, when thermal runaway occurs in either the upper or lower battery cells 20 connected to the first bus bar 3, the first bus bar 3 can be melted down in both cases, providing a protective effect for the other battery cells 20.
[0081] 4, the first busbar 3 at least partially covers the first explosion-proof valve 243 of the battery cell 20 connected to it. If thermal runaway occurs in either the upper or lower battery cell 20 connected to the first busbar 3, high-temperature gas, sparks, and dust inside the battery cell 20 will spray out from the first explosion-proof valve 243 and directly act on the first busbar 3, making it easier to melt down the first busbar 3.
[0082] As shown in Fig. 4, the battery module 2 further includes a second busbar 4 and a plurality of battery cell units 2A arranged along a first direction x, where two adjacent battery cell units 2A are electrically connected via the second busbar 4, and the second busbar 4 extends along the first direction x. In the battery module shown in Fig. 4, each of the first busbars 3 and each of the second busbars 4 are alternately installed along the first direction x to connect each of the battery cells 20 in series, and the inclination directions of two adjacent first busbars 3 are opposite. The second busbar 4 may have a similar structure to the first busbar 3, or the deformation guide portion may be omitted.
[0083] As shown in FIG. 4, the battery module 2 further includes two output electrodes that are arranged to output the positive and negative electrodes, respectively, after the battery cells 20 are connected to form the battery module 2.
[0084] Based on the above embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1, the battery pack may include at least one battery module 2, and each battery module 2 is arranged in a row or spaced apart along the second direction y. For example, two battery modules 2 may be installed between two adjacent beams 12. The maximum side of each battery cell 20 is approximately parallel to the bottom surface of the box 11, and such an arrangement is also called a horizontal arrangement. Since the height of the battery cell 20 in the third direction z is low, the horizontal arrangement can reduce the overall height of the battery module 2, which is suitable for devices with low battery installation space.
[0085] Any of the battery modules 2 provided in the above embodiments may be installed in a battery pack, and as shown in Fig. 1, the box unit 1 includes a box 11 and a beam 12, the beam 12 is fixed in the box 11, and divides the inner space of the box 11 into a plurality of receiving cavities Q, and at least one battery module 2 is installed in each receiving cavity Q. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the battery pack further includes a connection part 6, which is configured to connect the output poles 5 of each battery module 2, thereby realizing one of series connection and parallel connection of each battery module 2, and achieving the electrical properties required for the battery pack. A first mounting hole 111 for mounting an electrical connector 7 may be provided in the box 11.
[0086] In the battery module 2, the electrode terminals 242 of each battery cell 20 are all installed facing the beam 12, and there is a predetermined distance L between the battery cell 20, the side surface for installing the electrode terminals 242, and the side wall of the beam 12, forming an exhaust passage B.
[0087] 3, when thermal runaway occurs in the battery cell 20S, the high-temperature gas, sparks and dust ejected from the first explosion-proof valve 243 may melt the first busbar 3, and the airflow flows to both sides along the exhaust passage B, and flows through the gap between the end of the beam 12 and the inner wall of the box 11 to the second explosion-proof valve 8, and finally exhausts to the outside from the second explosion-proof valve 8, reducing the temperature inside the box 11 and improving the safety of the battery. At least one second mounting hole 112 is provided in the box 11, and the second explosion-proof valve 8 is mounted to the box 11 through the second mounting hole 112.
[0088] 1 and 2, in order to remove heat generated by the operation of the battery, the battery pack further includes a cooling member 9, which includes a cooling plate 91 having a cooling cavity therein, and a liquid supply pipe 92 and a liquid discharge pipe 93 both communicate with the cooling cavity of the cooling plate 91. Within a plane formed in the first direction x and the second direction y, two adjacent battery modules 2 may be mounted such that the electrode terminals 242 are far away from each other, thereby saving mounting space, and when the cooling plate 91 is installed, it may be disposed between the two adjacent battery modules 2, so that the two adjacent battery modules 2 are cooled simultaneously by the cooling plate 91.
[0089] In some embodiments, two adjacent battery modules 2 may be mounted with their electrode terminals 242 facing each other, and a safe distance must be ensured between the electrode terminals 242 of the adjacent battery modules 2. If cooling is required, a cooling plate 91 can be installed on each of the sides of the two battery modules 2 away from the electrode terminals 242.
[0090] In addition, in addition to a structure in which the battery cells 20 are mounted in a horizontal arrangement, a method and structure in which the first bus bar 3 and the second bus bar 4 of the present application are connected to the battery cells 20 may be used for a battery module 2 in which the battery cells 20 are installed vertically.
[0091] A structure that can be used for the battery cell 20 in each of the above embodiments will now be described.
[0092] As shown in the exploded schematic diagram of FIG. 9, each battery cell 20 includes a housing 21 and an electrode assembly 22 disposed in the housing 21, and the housing 21 may have a hexahedral shape or other shapes and may have an opening. The electrode assembly 22 is accommodated in the housing 21. The opening of the housing 21 is covered by a top cover unit 24. The top cover unit 24 includes a top cover 241 and two electrode terminals 242 disposed on the top cover 241, and the two electrode terminals 242 are a first electrode terminal and a second electrode terminal, respectively. The first electrode terminal is a positive electrode terminal, and the second electrode terminal is a negative electrode terminal. In another embodiment, the first electrode terminal is further a negative electrode terminal, and the second electrode terminal is a positive electrode terminal. An adapter plate 23 is disposed between the top cover unit 24 and the electrode assembly 22, and the tab of the electrode assembly 22 is electrically connected to the electrode terminal in the top cover 241 through the adapter plate 23. In this embodiment, there are two adapter plates 23, that is, a positive adapter plate and a negative adapter plate. A first explosion-proof valve 243 is provided between the two electrode terminals 242 of the top cover 241 .
[0093] 9, two electrode assemblies 22 are installed in the housing 21, and the two electrode assemblies 22 are stacked along the height direction (z direction) of the battery cell 20, and the height direction of the battery cell 20 coincides with the height direction of the battery pack. Of course, in other embodiments, one electrode assembly 22 may be installed in the housing 21, or three or more electrode assemblies 22 are installed in the housing 21. The multiple electrode assemblies 22 are stacked along the height direction (z direction) of the battery cell 20.
[0094] As shown in Figs. 10 and 11, the electrode assembly 22 includes a first plate 221, a second plate 222, and a separator 223 disposed between the first plate 221 and the second plate 222. The first plate 221 is a positive plate, and the second plate 222 is a negative plate. In another embodiment, the first plate 221 is also a negative plate, and the second plate 222 is a positive plate. The separator 223 is an insulator between the first plate 221 and the second plate 222. The active material of the positive plate is coated on the coating area of the positive plate, and the active material of the negative plate is coated on the coating area of the negative plate. The portion extending from the coating area of the positive plate serves as a positive tab, and the portion extending from the coating area of the negative plate serves as a negative tab. The positive electrode tab is connected to a positive terminal on the top cover unit 24 via a positive electrode adapter plate, and similarly, the negative electrode tab is connected to a negative terminal on the top cover unit 24 via a negative electrode adapter plate.
[0095] As shown in FIG. 10, the electrode assembly 22 has a wound structure. The first electrode plate 221, the separator 223, and the second electrode plate 222 are all strip-shaped, and the first electrode plate 221, the separator 223, and the second electrode plate 222 are sequentially stacked and wound two or more times to form the electrode assembly 22, and the electrode assembly 22 is flat. When manufacturing the electrode assembly 22, the electrode assembly 22 may be directly wound in a flat shape, or may be wound into a hollow cylindrical structure and then flattened into a flat shape after being wound. FIG. 10 is a schematic diagram of the outline of the electrode assembly 22, and the outer surface of the electrode assembly 22 includes two flat surfaces 224, which are disposed opposite to each other along the height direction (z direction) of the battery cell 20. The electrode assembly 22 has an approximately hexahedral structure, and the flat surface 224 is approximately parallel to the winding axis and is the outer surface with the largest area. Planar surface 224 is a relatively flat surface, and need not be perfectly planar.
[0096] 11, the electrode assembly 22 has a stacked structure, i.e., the electrode assembly 22 includes a plurality of first plates 221 and a plurality of second plates 222, and a separator 223 is installed between the first plates 221 and the second plates 222. The first plates 221 and the second plates 222 are stacked in the height direction (z direction) of the battery cell 20.
[0097] The electrode assembly 22 inevitably expands in the thickness direction of the plates during charging and discharging, and the amount of expansion of each plate increases, with the cumulative amount of expansion in the height direction being greater than in other directions, causing an external force to be applied to the first bus bar 3 via the electrode terminal 242. The embodiment of the present application improves the connection relationship and structure of the bus bars between the cells, thereby improving the reliability and safety of the battery operation.
[0098] Although the present application has been described with reference to the preferred embodiments, various modifications can be made and the components can be replaced with equivalents without departing from the scope of the present application. In particular, as long as there is no structural contradiction, all technical features of each embodiment can be arbitrarily combined. The present application is not limited to the specific embodiments disclosed in the specification, but includes all technical solutions falling within the scope of the claims.
