Description

Detailed Description of the Invention

[0001] [Technical field] The present invention relates to the field of cosmetic compositions that provide protection from UV light.

[0002] [Background of the invention] For years now, there has been a trend away from elegant and unhealthy whiteness in favor of a "healthy and athletic brown skin". People who want to achieve this expose their skin to sunlight, as it produces pigment in the form of melanogenesis. However, the ultraviolet radiation of sunlight can also damage the skin. Excessive exposure of the skin to light in the UV(B) range (wavelengths: 280-315 nm) can cause acute damage (sunburn) as well as long-term damage, such as an increased risk of skin cancer. Excessive exposure to UV(B) and UV(A) radiation (wavelengths: 315-400 nm) also reduces the strength of elastin and collagen fibers in the connective tissue. This causes many phototoxic and photoallergic reactions, which result in premature aging of the skin.

[0003] Therefore, a series of photoprotective screening substances have been developed that can be used in cosmetic formulations to protect the skin.

[0004] The ability of a cosmetic composition to protect the skin from UV radiation is commonly expressed in terms of the Sun Protection Factor (SPF).

[0005] When a UV protective cosmetic composition comes into contact with water, such as that typically encountered during bathing, it usually removes significant amounts of the UV filters from the skin, resulting in a reduced ability to protect against UV light, which can be manifested as a significant reduction in the SPF of the composition.

[0006] [Summary of the invention] The problem that the present invention aims to solve is therefore to improve the water resistance of cosmetic compositions containing at least one UV filter.

[0007] Surprisingly, it has been found that this problem can be solved by the cosmetic composition according to claim 1.

[0008] Specifically, by adding a specific cellulose in combination with a mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes and an ester of a fatty acid and dextrin to a cosmetic composition containing a UV filter, the water resistance of the cosmetic composition containing a UV filter can be significantly improved.

[0009] Specifically, it was found that this three-type combination (a combination of a specific cellulose with a mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes and an ester of a fatty acid with dextrin) was far superior to a two-type combination (a combination of a specific cellulose with a mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes) (a mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes and an ester of a fatty acid with dextrin).

[0010] Further aspects of the invention are the subject matter of further independent claims. Particularly preferred embodiments are the subject matter of the dependent claims.

[0103] Bisoctrizol is a broad spectrum ultraviolet radiation filter that absorbs not only UV(B) light but also UV(A) light and has excellent photostability. It has absorption maxima at 308nm and 349nm. Meanwhile, it not only absorbs UV light but also reflects and scatters UV light. Therefore, Bisoctrizol is a multi-functional UV absorber and an organic UV filter that is manufactured as fine (<200nm) organic particles. Whereas other organic UV filters need to be dissolved in either oil or aqueous phases, Bisoctrizol is applied as invisible particles since it is difficult to dissolve in either.

[0104] Primarily Bisoctrizole is available as a fine powder in a 50% aqueous suspension stabilized with the surfactant decyl glucoside, for example from DSM Nutritional Products Ltd. under the trade name Parsol® Max, or from BASF under the trade name Tinosorb® M, or from Everlight Chemical as Eversorb M, or as Milestab 360. Most preferred is the product Parsol® Max from DSM Nutritional Products Ltd.

[0105] Bisoctrizole has extremely low solubility in most solvents or cosmetic oils, and is essentially insoluble or poorly soluble in water and alkanes.

[0106] In another preferred embodiment, the cosmetic composition has formula (VII): [ka] Contains a UV filter.

[0107] The UV filter of formula (VII) (CAS: [27503-81-7]) is a solid with a melting point of 1>300° C. It is also known as phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid (INCI name) and ensulizole.

[0108] Enthrizole is a strong UV(B) light filter that specifically absorbs light in the 280-340 nm region with an absorption maximum at 302 nm.

[0109] Enthrizole is a UV filter that is widely used in sun protection products. Because it is water-soluble, it is often used in products that are formulated to be light-feeling and less oily. Because of its poor absorption properties for UV(A) light, it is usually used in combination with other UV filters, especially UV(A) filters, especially avobenzone.

[0110] Enthrisol is commercialized by Merck KGaA under the trade name EUSOLEX® 232 and by DSM Nutritional Products Ltd. under the trade name Parsol® HS, among others.

[0119] In another preferred embodiment, the cosmetic composition comprises an inorganic UV filter which is a double-coated TiO2, preferably rutile TiO2, with silica on the inside and an organic coating, typically dimethicone, on the outside, and the inorganic UV filter is a UV(B) light filter.

[0120] A preferred UV filter of this type is commercially available from DSM Nutritional Products Ltd. under the trade name Parsol® TX.

[0121] In another preferred embodiment, the cosmetic composition has the formula (X): [ka] Contains a UV filter.

[0122] The UV filter of formula (X) (CAS: [70356-09-1]) is a white to yellowish crystalline powder, which is insoluble in water but soluble in isopropanol, dimethyl sulfoxide, decyl oleate, caprylic / capric triglyceride and other oils.

[0123] The UV filter of formula (X) is known as 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-(4-tert-butylphenyl)propane-1,3-dione or as butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane (INCI name) and as avobenzone.

[0124] Avobenzone is a highly efficient UV(A) light filter that specifically absorbs light in the range of 315-380 nm, with an absorption maximum at 357 nm.

[0126] In another preferred embodiment, the cosmetic composition has formula (XI): [ka] Contains a UV filter.

[0127] The UV filter of formula (XI) (CAS: [118-60-5]) is a colorless, transparent liquid, insoluble in water and other polar solvents, and soluble in non-polar solvents and cosmetic oils. The UV filter of formula (XI) is also known as Ethylhexyl Salicylate (INCI name) or Octyl Salicylate or Octisalate.

[0128] Ethylhexyl salicylate is a highly effective UV(B) light filter with an absorption maximum at 305 nm. Octisalate is a weaker UV(B) light filter, but is more stable than some other sunscreen actives and does not generate reactive oxygen species when exposed to sunlight. Other UV filters, such as avobenzone, are solubilized by ethylhexyl salicylate.

[0129] Ethylhexyl salicylate is commercialized by Ashland under the trade name Escarol 587, by Merck Kagaku & Co. under the trade name Eusolex® OS, by Symrise under the trade name NEO HELIOPAN OS, and by DSM Nutritional Products Ltd. under the trade name Parsol® EHS 1789, among others.

[0184] It has been shown that the above-mentioned cosmetic composition has improved water resistance. It has been shown that by adding the above-mentioned specific cellulose and the above-mentioned mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes and the above-mentioned ester of fatty acid and dextrin to a cosmetic composition containing a UV filter, the water resistance of the composition is significantly improved.

[0185] Water resistance can be assessed by the change in Sun Protection Factor (SPF) upon controlled exposure to water, further details are given in the experimental section.

[0186] Another established method for evaluating water resistance is based on the change in contact angle or diameter of a water droplet on the surface, see for example Hagens R. et al., "Contact angle measurement-a reliable supportive method for screening water-resistance of ultraviolet-protecting products in vivo", Internat. J. Cosm. Sci, 2007, 29, 283-291. This method is particularly simple and fast to perform. Further details are given in the experimental section.

[0187] Thus, in a further aspect, the present invention provides a method for the preparation of a compound comprising: 1~6 Alkyl cellulose or hydroxy-C 2~6 Alkyl(C 16 Alkyl)cellulose or carboxy C 1~6 Alkyl(C 1~6 cellulose, which is an alkyl cellulose; A mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes and a combination of fatty acid and dextrin esters, Use for improving the water resistance of a cosmetic composition comprising at least a UV filter; The amount of branched saturated C15-C19 alkanes in said mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes is more than 80% by weight, preferably more than 90% by weight, most preferably more than 92% by weight.

[0188] The definition and selection of ingredients are as already detailed above.

[0189] [Example] The following examples are provided to further illustrate the compositions and effects of the present invention. These examples are illustrative only and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention in any way.

[0190] The cosmetic compositions outlined in Table 1 or Table 2 were prepared according to standard methods in the art.

[0191] [Water resistance (change in SPF after exposure to water)] 1.3 mg / cm of each composition as outlined in Table 1 2 was applied to three PMMA plates (molded, HD6) and spread on the plates to obtain a homogenous layer. The plates were then allowed to dry at room temperature for 15 min. The initial in vitro SPF (Sun Protection Factor) (SPF inital The plate was then immersed in a flask filled with 4 L of water (double distilled) for 20 min, during which the water temperature was kept at 30° C. and the water was stirred with a paddle stirrer for 150 min. -1 (The plate was attached to the edge of the flask with a clothespin, with the surface coated with the composition facing into the flask). The plate was then dried at 40° C. for 30 minutes. The soaking / drying procedure was repeated one more time. After the final drying, the plate was cooled to room temperature and then washed with SPF 100. immersed The in-vitro SPF was measured as WR=[(SPF immersed / (SPF inital )] It was calculated as:

[0192] The results are shown in Table 1.

[0193] [Table 1]

[0194] The results in Table 1 show that the water resistance of the SPF of the cosmetic composition containing different UV filters (Reference Example 1) is relatively low. When the composition further contains a specific required cellulose (Reference Example 2), the water resistance is improved. The improvement is smaller than when the composition contains an ester of dextrin and fatty acid (Reference Example 3). When the composition contains a mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes as well as an ester of fatty acid and dextrin and a specific required cellulose, the water resistance is significantly improved (1 vs Reference Example 1 vs Reference Example 2 vs Reference Example 3).

[0195] [Water resistance (change in droplet size on surface after exposure to water)] 1.2 mg / cm of each composition as outlined in Table 2 2 was applied to three PMMA plates (Schoenberg, 5 μm) and spread on the plates to obtain a homogenous layer. The plates were then dried at room temperature for 5 min. Afterwards, a drop of distilled water with a volume of 0.1 ml was placed in the center of the plate.

[0196] After the surface is exposed to the water droplet for 1 minute, a photograph is taken and the diameter of the water droplet is measured. The average diameter (droplet size) of the water droplets obtained from the three plates is shown in Table 2 together with the standard deviation (STD) obtained from the individual measurements.

[0197] The smaller the diameter of the water droplets, the more water resistant the cosmetic composition is.

[0198] The results in Table 2 support the findings in Table 1. The results in Table 2 show that the cosmetic composition containing different UV filters (Reference Example 4) has a relatively large diameter and therefore poor water resistance. When the composition further contains an ester of dextrin and fatty acid (Reference Example 5), the diameter of the water droplets is significantly reduced, and therefore water resistance is improved. The same is true when the specific required cellulose is added to the composition (Reference Example 4) (Reference Example 6), and therefore water resistance is also improved. When the composition contains an ester of fatty acid and dextrin and a specific required cellulose in addition to a mixture of branched and linear saturated C15-C19 alkanes, water resistance is significantly improved, as can be seen from the significantly reduced diameter of the water droplets on the surface of the composition (2 vs Reference Example 4 vs Reference Example 5 vs Reference Example 6).
