This reduces paper waste when printing on recording media that have splice sections. [Solution] A recording device is used that comprises a roll sheet holding unit, a transport unit for unwinding and transporting a recording medium from the roll sheet, an image recording unit for the recording medium, a splice detection unit for the recording medium, and a control unit for controlling recording to the recording medium being transported at a predetermined transport speed. The predetermined transport speeds are set to a first transport speed and a faster second transport speed. When the detection unit detects a splice, the control unit sets the acceleration start position for transporting the recording medium at the predetermined transport speed to be closer to the holding unit at the second transport speed than at the first transport speed.
