Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a pest repellent composition.
Background Art
[0002] Flying pests such as mosquitoes, flies, and bees are generated and bred from polluted areas such as drainage and decaying food, and by flying, they approach animals such as humans and cause various harms to the animals. Among them, blood-sucking pests such as mosquitoes are attracted by carbon dioxide and body odor exhaled from animals while sensing the body temperature of the animals, reach the skin surface of the animals, and suck blood. When bitten by a mosquito, not only itching occurs, but it can also be a cause of rash and dermatitis at the blood-sucking site, and in some cases, it can transmit pathogens such as dengue fever, Zika fever, yellow fever, encephalitis, and malaria. Therefore, it is considered to be very harmful hygienically.
[0003] As countermeasures for repelling such pests, various compositions for application to the skin have been developed. Among them, as an active ingredient for repelling pests, a technique using a non-volatile liquid oily component having specific values of surface tension and viscosity has also been developed.
[0004] For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a pest repellent composition containing such a non-volatile liquid oily component and a film-forming polymer in specific amounts, aiming to improve the repellent persistence effect and its water resistance. Further, Patent Document 2 discloses a pest repellent composition containing such a non-volatile liquid oily component and a specific repellent component such as N,N-diethyltoluamide in specific amounts, and attempts have been made to enhance the persistence of the repellent effect while reducing the unpleasant odor derived from the repellent component.

Summary of the Invention
[0006] Incidentally, menthol, known for its pleasant aroma and refreshing coolness, is used in various compositions to exert its effects, but depending on the amount it contains, it may cause unpleasant irritation or burning sensations. Under these circumstances, the inventors of the present invention have newly noticed that using menthol in insect repellent compositions can unexpectedly effectively suppress the unpleasant irritation and burning sensations when applied to the skin, providing a pleasant cooling sensation while synergistically enhancing the repellent effect, leading to the present invention.
[0007] Therefore, the present invention relates to an insect repellent composition that, when applied to the skin, can fully exhibit a long-lasting repellent effect while providing a pleasant cooling sensation without causing unpleasant irritation or burning. [Means for solving the problem]
[0008] Therefore, after various studies, the inventors discovered that by containing a specific amount of a specific non-volatile liquid oil, specific hydrophilic fine particles, and menthol, and by controlling the mass ratio of the specific non-volatile liquid oil to the menthol within a specific range, it is possible to obtain an insect repellent composition that exhibits a long-lasting repellent effect while providing a comfortable cooling sensation.
[0009] In other words, the present invention comprises the following components (A) to (C): (A) One or more non-volatile liquid oils selected from silicone oils, ester oils, ether oils, hydrocarbon oils, aliphatic alcohols, and polyhydric alcohols, in an amount of 13% to 50% by mass. (B) Hydrophilic fine particles containing silica particles and / or silicate particles, with a median volume particle size of 1 μm or more and 40 μm or less. (C) Menthol The present invention provides an insect repellent composition containing the above, wherein the mass ratio ((C) / (A)) of the content of component (C) to the content of component (A) is 0.0008 or more and 0.45 or less. [Effects of the Invention]
[0010] With the insect repellent composition of the present invention, when applied to the skin, users can enjoy a sustained insect repellent effect while experiencing a pleasant cooling sensation derived from menthol, without any unpleasant irritation or burning sensation. [Modes for carrying out the invention]
[0011] The present invention will be described in detail below. In this invention, "pest" refers to so-called "flying pests," which include pests that approach humans or other animals while flying and suck blood from their skin, or pests that transmit pathogenic bacteria or the like while flying, even if they do not suck blood, or pests whose flight itself causes discomfort to humans. These pests specifically include house mosquitoes such as Culex pipiens, Culex tritaeniorhynchus, Culex pipiens, and Culex aegypti; mosquitoes such as Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus, Anopheles sinensis, Aedes togo, Anopheles gambia, and Anopheles stepens; midges such as Chironomus serrata and Chironomus rufipes; black flies such as Chironomus nigricans, Chironomus rufipes, and Chironomus rufipes; and houseflies. Examples include flies such as the large housefly, small housefly, black fly, flesh fly, seed fly, onion fly, fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, drain fly, Cheche fly, and stable fly; horseflies such as the black fly, cow fly, blind fly, and spotted fly; midges such as the Tokunaga black midge, Oshima midge, and chicken midge; and wasps such as the yellow hornet, black-legged paper wasp, and honeybee.
[0012] Furthermore, in this invention, the "repellent effect" against pests primarily refers to the effect of preventing pests from staying on or immediately leaving the skin of animals such as humans after contact (residency inhibition effect). While it may also include the effect of keeping pests away from animals such as humans, it is distinct from the effect of exhibiting insecticidal power or the effect of eliminating pests. The pest repellent composition of this invention exhibits a particularly excellent repellent effect against mosquitoes among pests. More specifically, the pest repellent composition of this invention exhibits an excellent repellent effect against mosquitoes such as Culex pipiens, Culex tritaeniorhynchus, Culex pipiens, Culex aegypti, Aedes aegypti, and Aedes albopictus. In this invention, "landing" of an insect means that the insect approaches a person or other animal and lands on their skin, but only remains in contact with the skin for less than one second. In this invention, "staying" of an insect means that the insect approaches a person or other animal, lands on their skin, and remains in contact with the skin for one second or more.
[0013] Furthermore, the "cooling sensation" when the insect repellent composition of the present invention is applied to the skin means that a pleasant and cool sensation is obtained, accompanied by a refreshing and invigorating feeling derived from menthol, also known as a cooling sensation. Furthermore, "unpleasant irritation" refers to the tingling, unbearable numbness or pain derived from menthol that may be felt on the skin when the insect repellent composition of the present invention is applied to the skin. "Unpleasant burning sensation" refers to the stinging, burning, unbearable pain derived from menthol that may be felt on the skin when the insect repellent composition of the present invention is applied to the skin.
[0014] The insect repellent composition of the present invention contains, as component (A), 13% by mass to 50% by mass of one or more non-volatile liquid oils selected from silicone oil (a1), ester oil (a2), ether oil (a3), hydrocarbon oil (a4), aliphatic alcohol (a5), and polyhydric alcohol (a6). Pests have the property of avoiding landing on the surface of the skin or the like where their legs get wet in order to avoid the gravitational force generated from the surface of the skin or the like where their legs get wet. On the other hand, the component (A) contained in the pest repellent composition of the present invention acts as a main component that can exhibit a repellent effect of causing wetness on the legs of pests landing on the surface of the skin or the like and inhibiting the landing of pests. When the component (C) described later coexists in the pest repellent composition of the present invention, such a repellent effect will be enhanced synergistically and continuously. The term "non-volatile liquid oil agent" means a non-volatile and liquid oily component.
[0015] Here, "non-volatile" in component (A) means that the evaporation rate after drying at 25°C for 60 minutes under 1 atmospheric pressure is 50% or less. From the viewpoint of enhancing the repellent effect by allowing the component (A) to stay on the skin for a long time, the lower the evaporation rate value of the component (A), the more preferable it is. Specifically, it is more preferable that the evaporation rate after drying at 25°C for 120 minutes under 1 atmospheric pressure is 50% or less. The evaporation rate is a value measured in accordance with the German test standard DIN53249. Specifically, it is measured by the following procedures 1 to 4. 1. Measure the weight (P (g)) of a round filter paper with a diameter of 15cm. 2. Using a pipette, drop 0.3 g of a sample of component (A) onto the round filter paper, and immediately measure the weight (W0 (g)) of the filter paper. 3. In a non-ventilated environment, measure the weight of the filter paper at 25°C at 5-minute intervals with a weight measurement accuracy of about 0.001 g. After measuring 2, let the weight of the filter paper measured after 60 minutes be W 60 (g). 4. The value calculated by the formula {((W0 - P) - (W 60 - P)) / (W0 - P)} × 100 is taken as the evaporation rate (%).
[0016] Here, the "liquid" state of component (A) means that the viscosity at 23°C measured by a B-type rotational viscometer is 120,000 mPa·s or less. Further, from the viewpoint of enhancing the persistence of the repellent effect and the viewpoint of exhibiting good extensibility when applied to the skin, component (A) is preferably liquid at 25°C, more preferably liquid at 20°C, still more preferably liquid at 15°C, even more preferably liquid at 10°C.

The surface tension of component (A) means the value measured by the Wilhelmy method using a platinum plate in an environment of 25°C using an automatic surface tensiometer "Tensiometer K100" (manufactured by KRUSS).
[0018] From the viewpoints of suppressing the volatility of component (A), ensuring the exhibition of a highly persistent repellent effect, and maintaining the expression of a good cooling sensation, the viscosity of component (A) at 23°C measured by a B-type rotational viscometer is preferably 1 mPa·s or more, preferably 400 mPa·s or less, more preferably 300 mPa·s or less, still more preferably 210 mPa·s or less, even more preferably 100 mPa·s or less, even more preferably 60 mPa·s or less, even more preferably 40 mPa·s or less, even more preferably 30 mPa·s or less.

If it has been wetted by the No. 70 (surface tension 70 mN / m) mixture, the wetting tension of the particle surface is determined to be 70 mN / m or higher, and the particle is judged to be hydrophilic. Similarly, for example, if the particle surface does not wet when No. 25.4 (surface tension 25.4 mN / m) is used as the wetting tension test mixture, but does wet when No. 22.6 (surface tension 22.6 mN / m) is used as the wetting tension test mixture, then the wetting tension of the particle surface is determined to be 23 mN / m.

[0077] The present invention will be described in detail below based on examples. Unless otherwise specified in the table, the content of each component is expressed in mass percent.
[0078] [Examples 1-6, Comparative Examples 1-3] Preparation of the composition Each composition was prepared according to the formulations shown in Tables 1 and 2. Specifically, components (B) and (E) were placed in a beaker, and while stirring with a stirrer, component (a1-2-2), which was dissolved in a portion of component (D), was added as needed, and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour to prepare the aqueous phase. Next, component (a1-1) was gradually added to the obtained aqueous phase while stirring with a propeller, and then component (C) and the remainder of component D) dissolved in another beaker were added and stirred. Using a TK Homomix MARKII 2.5 model from TK Robomix (Tokushu Kika Kogyo Co., Ltd.), the mixture was stirred at 8,000 rpm for 1 minute to obtain each oil-in-water type composition. Each of the obtained compositions was used for the following measurements and evaluations. The results are shown in Tables 1 and 2.
[0079] Measurement of the viscosity of component (A) The viscosity was measured using a Type B rotational viscometer (Viscometer TVB-10, manufactured by Toki Sangyo Co., Ltd.) according to JIS K7117-1:1999, with rotor M2, at a rotational speed of 12 rpm in a 23°C environment.
[0080] 《Evaluation test of repellent effect》 The evaluation tests were conducted according to the following procedures (I) to (III), and the repellency rate (%) was calculated and used as an indicator for evaluating the repellent effect. (I) Preparation for pest control (Aedes albopictus) Aedes albopictus eggs (manufactured by Sumitomo Techno Service) were reared in cages under conditions of 27°C and 60% relative humidity (RH), and adult Aedes albopictus (females) were collected. Specifically, after filling a transparent plastic pan with about 1 cm of water, filter paper on which the eggs were laid was placed to induce pupation. The pupae were then fed tropical fish food (TetraMin) as larval food. After one week, the pupae were collected with a dropper, transferred to 20 mL plastic cups, and placed in a cage with a mesh net. The pupae were then fed 10% sucrose in a 25 mL plastic tube as adult food, and pupation was induced. The emerged males and females were reared in the same cage for 5 days to allow mating. Afterward, the adults were collected using an aspirator, anesthetized by exposing them to ice for 5 minutes, and then only female mosquitoes were collected visually for the evaluation described below.
[0081] (II) Preparation for the start of the exam Fifty mated female mosquitoes collected in (I) were placed in a mesh-enclosed plastic cage (BugDorm-1 cage, size: 30cm x 30cm x 30cm), and the test was conducted under conditions of 30°C and 60% relative humidity (RH). Specifically, a 10cm x 3cm slit was first made in a silicone sleeve, into which the subject's arm was inserted. To activate the mosquitoes, air was blown into the plastic cage for 5 seconds. Next, the arm was inserted into the plastic cage without applying anything to the exposed skin through the slit in the silicone sleeve. Within 3 minutes of inserting the arm, it was confirmed that mosquitoes landed in two places on the exposed skin and remained there for more than 1 second. If a landed mosquito did not remain for more than 1 second, another mosquito was reintroduced into the plastic cage, and preparations for the start of the test were made.
[0082] (III) Calculation of the repellency rate In conducting the test, if a mosquito landed on an exposed area of skin and remained there for more than one second, it was determined that the mosquito had not been repelled and that "a mosquito had landed." First, a 10cm x 3cm slit was made in the silicone sleeve, and the subject's arm was inserted. 3.3 mg / cm³ was then administered to the exposed skin area (10cm x 3cm) through the slit. 2 Each composition was applied evenly. Additionally, breath was blown into the plastic cage for 5 seconds to activate the mosquitoes. After applying the composition, the forearm was inserted into a plastic cage two hours later, and the number of mosquitoes that landed on it was counted from the time of insertion until three minutes later. Separately, a forearm without the composition applied (uncoated forearm) was also inserted into the plastic cage, and the number of mosquitoes that landed on it was counted from the time of insertion until three minutes later, in the same manner as with the coated forearm. Next, the number of mosquitoes that landed on the forearm coated with the obtained composition, and the number of mosquitoes that landed on the forearm not coated with the composition, were introduced into the following formula (x) to calculate the repellency rate (%). Evasion rate (%) ={1-(number of mosquitoes on the forearm treated with the composition) / (number of mosquitoes on the forearm not treated with the composition)} ×100···(x)
[0083] Evaluation of cooling sensation, and evaluation of pain / burning sensation. The composition obtained was applied to the skin of the forearm at a concentration of 3.3 mg / cm³. 2 The mixture was applied evenly and then spread evenly over 1 minute under conditions of 25°C and 57% relative humidity (RH). Next, 7 minutes after the composition was spread, the cooling sensation and pain / burning sensation were evaluated according to the following criteria.
[0084] • Evaluation of cooling sensation 5: I feel a very strong sense of coolness. 4: I feel a slightly stronger sense of coolness. 3: Neither 2: The cooling sensation feels slightly weaker. 1: Feeling less of a cooling sensation 0: No feeling of coolness at all
[0085] • Evaluation of pain and burning sensation 5: No pain or burning sensation at all. 4: Pain and burning sensation are slightly lessened. 3: Reduced pain and burning sensation 2: Neither 1: The pain and burning sensation are somewhat strong, but tolerable. 0: You feel intense pain or burning sensation.
