Abstract

An apparatus, method, and system for a surgical microscope using red reflex illumination is provided. According to one aspect of the present invention, a red-reflex surgical microscope system may include a red-reflex illumination source, an objective lens, and an aperture stop. In one embodiment, the aperture stop is located between the illumination source and the objective lens. An image of the aperture stop may be imaged in close proximity to the objective lens. The size of the beam reflected from the objective lens is reduced based on the proximity of the image of the aperture stop to the objective lens. Another embodiment described herein is a red-reflex surgical microscope system used in conjunction with OCT and coupled via a dichroic mirror, including an obstruction configured to minimize glare by being positioned on or adjacent to a side of the dichroic mirror that does not reflect OCT light. Another embodiment includes an oblique white-light illumination source. Yet another embodiment is described herein.
