Abstract

The surgical retractor (10) comprises a handle portion defining a longitudinal axis (A1) and having a proximal end and a distal end at opposing ends along the longitudinal axis, and a first paddle portion (3) joined to the distal end of the handle portion via a distal arched portion (20) having an inner arc surface (28), wherein the length of the first paddle portion (3) extends from the longitudinal axis of the handle portion at a predetermined angle with respect to the longitudinal axis in a first direction (D1), and the inner arc surface (28) of the distal arched portion (20) is inclined away from the longitudinal axis (A1) at the distal end of the handle portion in a second direction (D2), the second direction being substantially opposite to the first direction.

Claims

1. A handle portion having a defined longitudinal axis and a proximal and distal end at opposite ends along the longitudinal axis; A first paddle portion is joined to the distal end of the handle portion via a distal arch-shaped portion having an inner curved surface. A surgical retractor comprising, The length of the first paddle portion extends from the longitudinal axis of the handle portion at a predetermined angle with respect to the longitudinal axis in the first direction. The inner arc surface of the distal arc-shaped portion is inclined in a second direction so as to move away from the longitudinal axis at the distal end of the handle portion, and the second direction is substantially opposite to the first direction. A surgical retractor characterized by the following features.

2. The surgical retractor according to claim 1, characterized in that the radius of curvature of the inner arc surface of the distal arch-shaped portion is 3 mm to 15 mm.

3. The surgical retractor according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the retractor has a second paddle joined to the proximal end of the handle portion via a proximal arched portion having an inner arc surface, and the length of the second paddle portion extends from the longitudinal axis of the handle portion at a predetermined angle with respect to the longitudinal axis.

4. The surgical retractor according to claim 3, characterized in that the length of the second paddle extends in the second direction, and the inner arc surface of the proximal arch portion is inclined in the first direction so as to move away from the longitudinal axis at the proximal end of the handle portion.

5. The surgical retractor according to claim 3, characterized in that the length of the second paddle extends in the first direction, and the inner arc surface of the proximal arch portion is inclined in the second direction so as to move away from the longitudinal axis at the proximal end of the handle portion.

6. A surgical retractor according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that at least a portion of the handle portion and optionally at least a portion of the first paddle portion (and / or at least a portion of the second paddle) and / or at least a portion of the distal / proximal arched portion have a substantially concave cross-section.

7. The surgical retractor according to claim 6, characterized in that the first portion of the handle portion has a concave cross-section protruding in the first direction, and the second portion of the handle portion has a concave cross-section protruding in the second direction.

8. The surgical retractor according to any one of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the paddle includes a tongue-shaped rim for insertion into the body.

9. The surgical retractor according to any one of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the handle portion and the paddle are integrally formed.

10. The surgical retractor according to any one of claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the surgical retractor is made of a polymer, optionally a glass-filled polymer, and optionally a glass fiber-filled polymer.
