Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to an edge connector, and more particularly to an edge connector having a floating member whose opening position can be adjusted, allowing two connection circuit boards to be inserted at opening positions of different angles. [Background technology]

[0002] Edge connectors are connectors that are widely used in various electronic devices. Their main function is to insert different types of connecting circuit boards into the slots to expand or enhance the electronic devices and their functions. In recent years, with the development of automotive technology, the application of edge connectors in the vehicle field is also becoming more and more popular. The internal electronic systems of modern automobiles need to realize the signal transmission of functions such as vehicle information, audio-visual systems, navigation systems, vehicle diagnosis and monitoring through various types of circuit boards. Therefore, the design and structure of edge connectors need to be continuously improved to meet the increasingly complex internal electronic systems and the limitations of automotive space.

[0003] In current edge connectors, it is common to insert and connect two connecting circuit boards horizontally. However, this horizontal connection method is limited by the installation environment. It is necessary to adjust the installation position of the connecting circuit board to meet the needs of different environments. In addition, if the connecting circuit board needs to be inserted and connected in a different direction, it is necessary to redesign the mold to produce the edge connector. This significantly increases the manufacturing cost and manufacturing time, making the production process complicated and expensive.

[0004] SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE In view of the above circumstances, the present invention proposes an edge connector to solve the problems of the prior art edge connectors, such as lack of flexibility and high production costs. Summary of the Invention

[0005] The purpose of the present invention is to provide an edge connector which includes an insulator, a rear cover member and a floating member. The main feature of the present invention is the design of the internal contact unit and the floating member. A part of the contact unit is installed on the insulator and the floating member. In practice, the connection circuit board needs to be inserted and connected at different insertion positions according to the use requirements of the connector. The present invention can change the installation direction of the floating member and the position where the contact unit contacts the connection circuit board according to different insertion positions. Thus, the edge connector of the present invention can fine-tune the local structure of the edge connector according to the space inside the vehicle body and adapt to the insertion position of the connection circuit board. The present invention has the effects of improving the flexibility of use, reducing the production cost and shortening the production time.

First, the contact units 4 arranged along the first direction D1 are assembled and fixed to the floating member 3. Next, the contact units 4 and the floating member 3 are assembled and fixed to the insulator 1. Finally, the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2 are engaged with each other. The floating member 3 of this embodiment is disposed between the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2 in a floating manner along the second direction D2.

[0020] Next, the insulator 1 will be described with reference to FIG. 3, FIG. 4, and FIG. 8. FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional side view of the edge connector 100 with the first connection circuit board 200 and the second connection circuit board 300 inserted therein. The insulator 1 includes a first body 11, a first opening 12, a plurality of first accommodating grooves 13, and a plurality of stopper portions 14. The first opening 12 is formed at one end of the first body 11. The first accommodating grooves 13 are arranged side by side at the other end of the first body 11 along the first direction D1. The first accommodating grooves 13 are for accommodating a part of the contact unit 4. The first body 11 and the first accommodating groove 13 define a first accommodating space S1, and the first accommodating space S1 is for accommodating the first connection circuit board 200. The stopper portions 14 are formed on both side surfaces of the first body 11. When the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2 are assembled and engaged with each other, the stopper portions 14 interfere with the rear cover member 2. In this embodiment, the number of stopper portions 14 is exemplified as six, with three formed on each side, but the formation position and number can be adjusted according to the actual combined design of the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2, and are not limited to this.

[0021] Next, the rear cover member 2 will be described. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the rear cover member 2 includes a cover body 21 and a plurality of extensions 22. The rear cover member 2 and the insulator 1 define a second accommodation space S2. The second accommodation space S2 is for accommodating the floating member 3. The extensions 22 are installed on both sides of the cover body 21 along the third direction D3. The third direction D3 is perpendicular to the first direction D1. More specifically, each extension 22 has a groove 221. The groove 221 is formed on a side surface of each extension 22 that is closer to the insulator 1. When the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2 are assembled and engaged, the extensions 22 engage with both sides of the insulator 1, and each groove 221 of the extension 22 abuts against and is pressed against each stopper portion 14 of the insulator 1. In this embodiment, the number of extensions 22 and grooves 221 is exemplified as six, which corresponds to the number of stopper portions 14, but the formation positions and number thereof can be adjusted according to the actual number and positions of the stopper portions 14, and are not limited to this.

[0022] Next, the floating member 3 will be described with reference to FIG. 5 and FIG. 6. FIG. 5 is a top view of the edge connector 100. FIG. 6 is a partial schematic view of the edge connector 100. The floating member 3 is floatingly installed in the second accommodating space S2. The floating member 3 includes a second body 31, a second opening 32, a plurality of second accommodating grooves 33, and two protrusions 34. The second opening 32 is formed in the second body 31 along the second direction D2. The second accommodating grooves 33 are installed in line with the second body 31 along the first direction D1. The second accommodating grooves 33 are for accommodating a part of the contact unit 4. The second body 31 and the second accommodating groove 33 define a third accommodating space S3. The third accommodating space S3 is for accommodating the second connection circuit board 300. The protrusions 34 are formed on both sides of the second body 31 and installed in the second accommodating space S2. In this embodiment, the number of the protrusions 34 is exemplified as two, but the formation positions and the number of the protrusions 34 can be adjusted according to the actual combination design, and are not limited to this.

[0023] As shown in FIG. 9, the contact units 4 are arranged side by side between the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2 along the first direction D1. The contact units 4 include a plurality of first contact members 41, a plurality of second contact members 42, and a plurality of connecting members 43. Each connecting member 43 is connected between each first contact member 41 and each second contact member 42. The first contact member 41 is arranged in the first accommodating groove 13. A portion of the first contact member 41 extends into the first accommodating space S1. The second contact member 42 is arranged in the second accommodating groove 33. A portion of the second contact member 42 extends into the third accommodating space S3.

[0024] 7, each of the first contact members 41 includes a first fixing portion 411 and a first contact portion 412. Each of the second contact members 42 includes a second fixing portion 421 and a second contact portion 422. The first fixing portion 411 is inserted into and fixed to each of the first accommodating grooves 13. A portion of the first contact portion 412 extends into the first accommodating space S1. The second fixing portion 421 is inserted into and fixed to each of the second accommodating grooves 33. A portion of the second contact portion 422 extends into the third accommodating space S3. A portion of the first contact portion 412 of the first contact member 41 contacts the first connection circuit board 200. A portion of the second contact portion 422 of the second contact member 42 contacts the second connection circuit board 300.

[0025] The connection relationship between the edge connector 100 and the first and second connection circuit boards 200 and 300 of the present invention will be described in detail below. As shown in Figures 5, 7 and 8, when the edge connector 100 electrically connects the first and second connection circuit boards 200 and 300, the first connection circuit board 200 passes through the first opening 12 along the third direction D3 and is inserted into the first accommodating space S1, and the second connection circuit board 300 passes through the second opening 32 along the second direction D2 and is inserted into the third accommodating space S3. At this time, the first connection circuit board 200 and the second connection circuit board 300 form a first angle W1. Meanwhile, as shown in Figure 9, the first fixing portion 411 of each first contact member 41 and the second fixing portion 421 of each second contact member 42 form a second angle W2. In this embodiment, the first direction D1 and the third direction D3 are perpendicular to each other. The second direction is adjustable according to the position of the second opening of the floating member 3, and is determined by the first angle W1 between the first connection circuit board 200 and the second connection circuit board 300. In detail, when the first connection circuit board 200 and the second connection circuit board 300 are inserted into the edge connector 100 of the present invention, the first angle W1 formed by the first connection circuit board 200 and the second connection circuit board 300 is 45 degrees to 135 degrees. The second angle W2 formed by the first contact member 41 and the second contact member 42 is 90 degrees. In other words, the position where the first connection circuit board 200 is inserted into the first accommodating space S1 is fixed, but the position where the second connection circuit board 300 is inserted into the third accommodating space S3 is adjustable. That is, the first angle W1 is adjustable. In addition, the first fixing portion 411 of each first contact member 41 is fixedly installed in the first accommodating groove 13 of the insulator 1. The second fixing portion 421 of each second contact member 42 is fixedly installed in the second receiving groove 33 of the floating member 3. Therefore, the second angle W2 is 90 degrees.

[0026] In the embodiment of the present invention, when the floating member 3 is installed in the second accommodating space S2 at an angle and the second opening 32 is installed obliquely in the second accommodating space S2, the second connection circuit board 300 is inserted into the third accommodating space S3 along the second opening 32. The first angle W1 is 45 degrees or more and less than 90 degrees (see FIG. 7) or more than 90 degrees and less than 135 degrees (not shown). The length of the first contact portion 412 of the first contact member 41 is shorter than the length of the second contact portion 422 of the second contact member 42. In other words, the length of the second contact portion 422 is longer than the length of the first contact portion 412. The portion in contact with the first connection circuit board 200 and the portion in contact with the second connection circuit board 300 are equal in length. The difference is that the portion of the second contact portion 422 connected to the bottom of the second fixing portion 421 has an extension portion. This extension portion allows the portion in contact with the connection circuit board to be installed obliquely. This design allows the user to incline the second connection circuit board 300 according to the actual installation environment of the connector and insert it into the third accommodation space S3 to contact the second contact portion 422 without changing the assembly design of the first fixing portion 411 and the second fixing portion 421. More specifically, in this embodiment, the first angle is preferably 78 degrees. Also, when the first angle W1 is greater than 90 degrees and equal to or less than 135 degrees (not shown), the second contact portion connected to the second fixing portion 421 is arranged in a left-right reversed manner with respect to the second contact portion 422 in FIG. 7. In that case, since there is an escape space between the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2, it becomes possible to insert the second connection circuit board 300 into the third accommodation space S3 along the second direction D2 determined by the first angle W1 according to the position of the second opening 32 of the floating member 3.

[0027] In another embodiment of the present invention, when the floating member 3 is installed upright in the second accommodating space S2 and the second opening 32 is installed vertically in the second accommodating space S2, the second connecting circuit board 300 is inserted into the third accommodating space S3 along the second opening 32. At this time, the first angle W1 is 90 degrees (not shown). The length of the first contact portion 412 of each first contact member 41 is equal to the length of the second contact portion 422 of each second contact member 42. In other words, the shape of the first contact member 41 and the shape of the second contact member 42 are completely the same. That is, the first contact portion 412 and the second contact portion 422 are completely the same, and are simply arranged rotated by 90 degrees.

[0028] Furthermore, a floating method of the floating member 3 in the edge connector 100 will be described. As shown in Figs. 5 to 8, a gap G exists between the floating member 3 and the insulator 1 and rear cover member 2. For example, a gap G exists between the protrusion 34 of the floating member 3 and the insulator 1. When the floating member 3 is assembled to the insulator 1 and rear cover member 2, the floating member 3 is allowed to move in the first direction D1 and the third direction D3 in the second accommodation space S2. On the other hand, when the second connection circuit board 300 is installed in the third accommodation space S3, the second accommodation space S2 allows the floating member 3 to move back and forth in the first direction D1 relative to the insulator 1 and rear cover member 2 due to the gap G. This allows the second connection circuit board 300 to be inserted in a floating manner by the floating member 3.

[0029] Moreover, in the embodiment of the edge connector 100 of the present invention, the contact unit 4 is made of a metal material, while the insulator 1, the rear cover member 2 and the floating member 3 are made of a plastic material.

[0030] Another embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to Figs. 10 and 11. The difference from the previous embodiment is that the insulator 1, rear cover member 2, and floating member 3 of this embodiment have slightly different structures. Hereinafter, only the differences will be described, and the same technical content will not be described repeatedly. In detail, in this embodiment, the insulator 1 includes two first engaging protrusions 15 and two locking portions 16. The two first engaging protrusions 15 are formed on both sides in the first body 11. A portion of each of the first engaging protrusions 15 is disposed in the first accommodation space S1. The locking portions 16 are formed on both opposing ends of the first body 11. The floating member 3 includes four second engaging protrusions 35. Each pair of the second engaging protrusions 35 is formed on both sides in the second body 31. A portion of each of the second engaging protrusions 35 is disposed in the third accommodation space S3. Meanwhile, the first connection circuit board 200 and the second connection circuit board 300 each have a recess. When the first connection circuit board 200 is inserted into the first accommodation space S1 and the second connection circuit board 300 is inserted into the third accommodation space S3, the recesses come into contact with the first engaging protrusions 15 and the second engaging protrusions 35, ensuring that the first connection circuit board 200 and the second connection circuit board 300 are securely fitted together. The locking portions 16 have a screw fixing structure and are used to fix the edge connector 100 to the printed circuit board. Note that, in this embodiment, the number of the first engaging protrusions 15 and the locking portions 16 is 2, and the number of the second engaging protrusions 35 is 4, but the positions and numbers can be adjusted according to the actual situation and are not limited to this.

[0031] In view of the above, in this embodiment, the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2 each have a grip portion C. The grip portion C is formed on the side of the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2 close to the second connection circuit board 300. As shown in FIG. 10, each grip portion C has a protruding structure resembling a T-shape. When the edge connector 100 is assembled to the printed circuit board in an automated manner, it can be gripped using a jig corresponding to the grip portion C, thereby calibrating the position, ensuring the accuracy of gripping each time, and improving the accuracy of assembly. Furthermore, when the second connection circuit board 300 is installed in the third accommodating space S3, the second accommodating space S2 allows the floating member 3 to move back and forth in the first direction D1 and / or the third direction D3 relative to the insulator 1 and the rear cover member 2 due to the gap G. This allows the second connection circuit board 300 to be inserted in a floating manner by the floating member 3.

[0032] To sum up, the edge connector of the present invention includes an insulator, a rear cover member, a floating member, and a contact unit. The present invention adjusts the structure of the contact member for contacting the connecting circuit board and adjusts the opening direction of the floating member, so that the connecting circuit board can be inserted into the edge connector from different angles. Furthermore, the gap between the floating member and the insulator and the rear cover member allows the connecting circuit board to be inserted and connected to the edge connector in a floating manner. This allows a customized edge connector to be designed according to the installation environment of the connector, and two connecting circuit boards to be inserted. The present invention can improve the flexibility of use of the connector, reduce production costs, and improve the assembly efficiency of the connector.

[0033] The above examples are for explaining the embodiments of the present invention and for explaining the characteristic configurations of the present invention, but the present invention is not limited to the above examples. Modifications or equivalent arrangements that can be easily made by those skilled in the art are also within the scope of the present invention. The scope of protection of the rights of the present invention is based on the scope of the utility model registration claims. [Explanation of symbols]
