Abstract

To provide a vehicle safety system which performs a method for assisting protection of a vehicle occupant at the time of frontal collision.SOLUTION: This method includes a process in which passive safety collision mode classification is determined in response to a collision signal that is received in response to collision event occurrence. The method further includes a process in which active safety collision model classification is determined in response to an active safety signal that was received before collision event occurrence. The method further includes a process in which an active safety certainty factor to the active safety collision mode classification is determined. The method further includes a process in which weighted collision mode classification is determined as the active collision mode classification in response to the active safety certainty factor exceeding a prescribed certainty factor value. The method further includes a process in which the weighted collision model classification is determined as passive collision mode classification in response to the active safety certainty factor non-exceeding the prescribed certainty factor value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
