Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a crimp terminal of an electrical connector to which an electrical cable is connected by crimping. [Background technology]

[0002] This type of crimp terminal is used to crimp the exposed core wire at the end of the electric cable. When the core wire is crimped, the tip of the core wire protruding from the crimped portion tends to bounce up. If the tip of the core wire bounces up, it can adversely affect the mating with the mating electrical connector.

[0003] In view of this, for example, Patent Documents 1 and 2 propose electrical connectors that can prevent the tip of the core wire from jumping up. Patent Document 1 proposes an electrical connector in which an arch-shaped anti-bounce part is provided that opens onto the core wire barrel side and the tip of the core wire is inserted into this anti-bounce part. Patent Document 2 also proposes providing a protruding part pressing piece that presses the tip of the core wire protruding from the core wire barrel from the outer periphery. [0004] [Patent Document 1] JP 2010-61872 A [Patent Document 2] JP 2017-188333 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0005] Recently, there is a demand for lighter electrical connectors in response to the trend toward lighter applications in which electrical connectors are used. This trend is particularly evident in applications in which a large number of electrical connectors are used, and electrical cables with smaller wire diameters are used in order to reduce the weight of the electrical cables used. In view of the above, an object of the present disclosure is to provide a crimp terminal that is suitable for use with an electric cable having a small wire diameter. [Means for solving the problem]

[0006] The crimp terminal of the present disclosure comprises a crimping portion having a contact portion that contacts a mating terminal, a core barrel that crimps the core wire of an electric cable, a coating barrel that crimps an electrical insulating coating that covers the core wire, and a base that supports the core wire barrel and the coating barrel. In the electric cable according to the present disclosure, a fold is formed on the core wire exposed from the electric insulating coating. Further, the core wire barrel in the present disclosure crimps a pair of adjacent core wires by folding back, and a locking body that locks the folded back is provided between the contact portion and the core wire barrel.

[0007] The locking body in the present disclosure has a locking surface that locks the fold. This locking surface preferably faces the contact portion.

[0008] The locking surface in the present disclosure is preferably inclined with respect to the base (including its extension such as 35F2). Inclined means that the locking surface is more than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees with respect to the surface direction of the base 31 (or its extension such as 35F2) with which the fold abuts, and as an effect, the fold 102 is more reliably locked (compared to the case without inclination) when the electric wire cable is pulled in the (B) direction. For example, in FIG. 3(b), when the surface of the base 31 is set to 0 degrees, the locking surface 35B forms an inclination of about 135 degrees. Also, in FIG. 4(b), the locking surface 35C similarly forms an inclination of about 135 degrees. Also, in FIG. 7(b), when the extension direction of the base 31 is set to 0 degrees, the first locking surface 35F1 forms an inclination of about 100 degrees.

[0009] The cuff in the present disclosure is preferably sandwiched between the base and the locking body.

[0010] The locking body in the present disclosure preferably includes a first locking surface facing the contact portion and a second locking surface intersecting the first locking surface.

[0011] The core wire barrel of the present disclosure preferably crimps each of the pair of core wires independently. Effect of the Invention

[0012] According to the crimp terminal of the present disclosure, the core wire barrel crimps a pair of adjacent core wires by folding back, so that the crimping force of the core wires can be ensured even if the wire diameter of the core wires is small. Moreover, according to the crimp terminal of the present disclosure, a locking body that locks the fold back is provided, so that the core wire including the fold back can be positioned at a desired position. As described above, according to the crimp terminal of the present disclosure, a stable crimping state can be obtained even when an electric cable with a small wire diameter is used. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0014] Hereinafter, a description will be given of a number of crimp terminals 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, and 1F according to embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings. These embodiments have the following in common. In all of these embodiments, the folded-back portion 102 of the core wire 101 of the electric cable 100 is engaged with the crimp terminals 1A to 1F so that the folded-back portion 102 is stably held. In addition, in all of these embodiments, a single electrically connected electric cable 100 is folded back in a U-shape in the crimp terminals 1A to 1F, and two core wires 101 (hereinafter referred to as a pair) adjacent in the width direction X are crimped independently. Here, the crimp terminals 1A, 1B, and 1C extend from the crimping portion 30 side toward the contact portion 10 side. In contrast, the crimp terminals 1D, 1E, and 1F extend from the contact portion 10 side toward the crimping portion 30 side.

[0015] [First embodiment: Figs. 1, 2, and 3] [Overall structure of crimp terminal 1A: Figure 1] As shown in FIG. 1, the crimp terminal 1A according to the first embodiment has a receptacle-type contact portion 10 and a crimping portion 30 for crimping an electric cable 100, which are integrally formed by sheet metal processing a metal plate made of, for example, a copper alloy. As shown in Fig. 1, in the crimp terminal 1A, the side where the contact portion 10 is provided is defined as the front or front (F), and the side where the crimp portion 30 is provided is defined as the rear or rear (B). These front and rear are relative definitions. In addition, in the crimp terminal 1A, the width direction X, the length direction Y, and the height direction Z are defined as shown in Fig. 1.

[0016] [Contact part 10: Figure 1] The crimp terminal 1A is electrically connected to a mating terminal 3 that is fitted to each other. As shown in Fig. 1, the crimp terminal 1A of this embodiment employs a receptacle type as the contact portion 10, but the contact portion in the present disclosure is not limited to this, and for example, a male contact portion such as a tab type may be employed. The contact portion 10 includes a box-shaped terminal body 11 having a receiving opening 13 at one end thereof into which a tab-type terminal (not shown) is inserted, and a receiving cavity 15 provided inside the terminal body 11 for accommodating the tab-type terminal inserted from the receiving opening 13. Although not shown, a spring piece is provided inside the receiving cavity 15 for pressing the tab-type terminal.

[0017] [Crimping section 30: Fig. 1, Fig. 2] As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the crimping portion 30 fixes the electric cable 100 to the crimp terminal 1A by crimping, and is electrically connected to the core wire 101. 1 and 2(a), the crimping unit 30 includes a base 31 on which the electric cable 100 is placed, and a pair of core barrels 37, 37 and a pair of covering barrels 39, 39 supported by the base 31. Each of the core barrels 37, 37 rises from both ends of the base 31 in the width direction X, and each of the covering barrels 39, 39 rises from both ends of the base 31 in the width direction X. The covering barrels 39, 39 are provided rearward (B) of the core barrels 37, 37.

[0018] [Base 31: Figure 1, Figure 2] As shown in FIG. 1 and FIGS. 2( a ) and ( b ), the base portion 31 is configured to be continuous with the contact portion 10 and extend in the longitudinal direction Y, and supports both the core wire 101 and the electrical insulating coating 103 of the electric cable 100 . The base 31 is provided with a locking body 33A that stands upright from the base 31. The locking body 33A locks the inside of the turn-up 102 of the core wire 101, thereby preventing the core wire 101 from floating up. Also, by providing the locking body 33A at a fixed position, the dimension from the core wire barrels 37, 37 to the turn-up 102 can be made constant.

[0019] 2(b), the locking body 33A rises almost vertically from the base 31, for example, by cutting and raising the base 31. The locking body 33A has a generally rectangular parallelepiped shape, and is provided at its front end with a locking surface 35A for locking the fold 102. The locking surface 35A faces the contact portion 10, that is, toward the front (F). The shape and dimensions of the locking body 33A are arbitrary as long as it can lock the fold 102 of the core wire 101, but the shape of the locking body 33A formed by cutting and raising is limited. In the base 31, a punched hole 36 is formed penetrating from the front to the back as a remnant of the cutting and forming of the locking body 33A. In this embodiment, the cutting and raising is performed so that the punched hole 36 is formed in front of the locking body 33A.

[0020] [Core barrel 37, 37: Figure 1, Figure 2 (a), (c)] The pair of core wire barrels 37, 37 crimp the core wire 101 of the electric cable 100 to fix the core wire 101 to the base 31 of the crimping unit 30. Here, as shown in Figures 2(a) and (c), the core wire barrels 37, 37 individually crimp the single core wire 101 folded back at the fold 102 at two locations. The core wire barrels 37, 37 preferably crimp the core wire 101 by pressing it against the base 31 while surrounding the periphery of the core wire 101, as shown in Figure 2(c).

[0021] As shown in Fig. 2(a), the core barrel 37 has a rectangular shape in plan view, but this is merely an example. For example, like the covering barrel 39 to be installed next, a shape in which the dimension in the width direction X continuously narrows toward the tip can be adopted.

[0022] [Coated barrel 39, 39: Figure 1, Figure 2(a)] Next, the sheathing barrels 39 , 39 crimp the electrical insulation sheath 103 of the electrical cable 100 to secure the electrical insulation sheath 103 to the base portion 31 of the crimping portion 30 . As shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2(a), the covering barrels 39, 39 have a trapezoidal shape in plan view. This is only one example, and the shape is arbitrary as long as the electric insulating covering 103 can be crimped. In addition, an example in which the pair of covering barrels 39, 39 hold the folded electric insulating covering 103 of the electric cable 100 at two points is shown here, but this is only one example of the present disclosure. By adjusting the shape and dimensions, the electric insulating covering 103 can also be crimped at two points by one covering barrel 39. In addition, an example in which the pair of covering barrels 39, 39 are provided at positions shifted in the longitudinal direction Y is shown here, but this is also only one example of the present disclosure. The covering barrels 39, 39 may be provided at the same position in the longitudinal direction Y, and one covering barrel 39 may be crimped so as to be stacked on the other covering barrel 39.

[0023] [Electric cable 100: Fig. 1, Fig. 2(d)] As shown in FIG. 2(d), the electric cable 100 used in the crimp terminal 1A includes a core wire 101 and an electrical insulating coating 103 that covers the core wire 101. The electric cable 100 has a portion where the core wire 101 is exposed by stripping off a part of the electrical insulating coating 103. The electric cable 100 has a fold 102 formed at the exposed core wire 101. In the electric cable 100, a pair of adjacent core wires 101 are independently crimped by the core wire barrels 37, 37 between the fold 102 and the electrical insulating coating 103. The portion of the pair of core wires 101 that is independently crimped is denoted by the reference symbol 101P in FIG. 2(a) and (c). In addition, by having the fold 102, not only the core wire 101 but also the electrical insulating coating 103, the two electrical insulating coatings 103 appear to be adjacent to each other. The crimping of the electrical insulating coating 103 by the coating barrels 39, 39 is performed at these adjacent aligned portions.

[0024] [Effects: Figures 2 and 9] The crimp terminal 1A has a locking body 33A provided on a base 31, and the turn-up 102 of the electric cable 100 is locked to the locking body 33A. Therefore, this crimp terminal 1A has the following advantages.

[0025] (1) The position of the electrical cable 100 to be crimped is determined. The locking body 33A is provided at a predetermined position, and the folded-back portion 102 of the electric cable 100 is locked to the locking body 33A, so that the electric cable 100 is set in a fixed position. This fixed position is realized in both the height direction Z, the longitudinal direction Y, and the width direction X. When the fold 102 is locked to the locking body 33A, the frictional force between the locking body 33A and the fold 102 causes the fold 102 to spring up and move upward (away from the base 31) from the locking body 33A, preventing it from slipping out in the height direction Z. In addition, since the distance in the longitudinal direction Y from the core wire barrels 37, 37 to the locking surface 35A of the locking body 33A is determined, when the fold 102 is locked to the locking body 33A, the position of the fold 102 is determined, and therefore the overall position of the electric cable 100 in the longitudinal direction Y is also determined. Furthermore, by providing the locking body 33A at the center of the width direction X of the base 31 and locking the fold 102 to the locking body 33A, the fold 102 and the core wire 101 connected to the fold 102 can be aligned at the center of the width direction X. As described above, according to this embodiment, a stable crimped state of the electric cable 100 can be obtained.

[0026] Now, with reference to Figs. 8 and 9, a case where the locking body 33A is not provided will be described. Assume that the core wire 101 and the electrical insulating coating 103 are in a state before being crimped as shown in Figures 8(a) and 9(a), and are then crimped by the core wire barrels 37, 37 and the coating barrels 39, 39, respectively, as shown in Figures 8(b) and 9(b).

[0027] However, as shown in Fig. 8(c), for example, the position of the fold 102 before being crimped may shift forward (F) or backward (B) from the correct position shown by the solid line, as shown by the dashed line. In contrast, if the locking body 33A is provided in the correct position as described above and the fold 102 is locked to the locking body 33A, the position shift is not restricted. Fig. 8(c) shows only the longitudinal direction Y, but the same applies to whether or not the position shift is restricted in the width direction X.

[0028] Furthermore, when the core wire barrels 37, 37 are crimped, the fold 102 and the core wire 101 connected to the fold 102 may jump up as shown in Fig. 9(c). However, if a locking body 33A is provided and the fold 102 is locked to the locking body 33A, the friction between the locking body 33A and the fold 102 can prevent the jumping up of the part in question, as described above.

[0029] (2) The holding force of the electric cable 100 can be increased without damaging the core wire 101. When the electric cable 100, particularly the core wire 101, is thin, it is not easy to hold the core wire 101 with a strong force by crimping. If the core wire 101 is held with a strong force, the core wire 101 may be damaged. In contrast, as described above, the crimp terminal 1A holds the pair of core wires 101 independently by crimping them with the core wire barrels 37, 37. Therefore, the crimp terminal 1A can double the holding force of the core wire 101 compared to crimping only one core wire, in other words, only one location, with the core wire barrel 37. This means that, assuming that the same holding force is obtained, the holding force per location can be reduced. Moreover, the crimp terminal 1A also holds the pair of electrical insulating coatings 103 independently by crimping them with the coating barrels 39, 39, so that this configuration also increases the holding force.

[0030] (3) The electric cable 100 can be fitted with the mating terminal 3 while being prevented from buckling. The fitting of the crimp terminal 1A to the mating terminal 3 is performed while holding the electrical insulating coating 103 of the electric cable 100 by hand. The crimp terminal 1A has a fold 102, which allows it to have what appear to be two electrical insulating coatings 103 arranged adjacent to each other. This improves the strength of the part held by the hand compared to holding only one electrical insulating coating 103, allowing the electrical cable 100 to be fitted to the mating terminal 3 while preventing buckling.

[0031] [Second embodiment: FIG. 3] Next, a crimp terminal 1B according to a second embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Fig. 3. Note that a description of parts common to the crimp terminal 1A will be omitted, and the description will focus on the differences from the crimp terminal 1A. The same applies to the third and subsequent embodiments.

[0032] [Structure of crimp terminal 1B: Figure 3] As shown in Figs. 3(a) and (b), the crimp terminal 1B includes a locking body 33B that locks a fold 102 of an electric cable 100. The locking body 33B is formed by cutting and raising the contact portion 10 and the base portion 31 of the crimping portion 30, as in the crimp terminal 1A, and rises at an incline so that the height continuously increases from the base portion 31 toward the contact portion 10. A locking surface 35B of the locking body 33B is provided on the surface side facing the base portion 31. As shown in Fig. 3(b), the fold 102 of the electric cable 100 comes into contact with the locking surface 35B of the locking body 33B when placed on the base portion 31. That is, the fold 102 is locked to the locking body 33B in a state where it is sandwiched between the base portion 31 and the locking surface 35B of the locking body 33B.

[0033] [Effects of crimp terminal 1B] Crimp terminal 1B provides the same effects as crimp terminal 1A, and in addition thereto, the following effects are provided: That is, with crimp terminal 1B, fold 102 is locked to locking body 33B in a state where it is sandwiched between base 31 and locking surface 35B of locking body 33B, so that core wire 101 is unlikely to come out of the locked state even if crimp terminal 1B is subjected to vibration.

[0034] [Third embodiment: FIG. 4] Next, a crimp terminal 1C according to a third embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Fig. 4. [Configuration of crimp terminal 1C: Fig. 4] As shown in Figs. 4(a) and 4(b), the crimp terminal 1C includes a locking body 33C that locks the fold 102 of the electric cable 100. The locking body 33C, like the locking body 33B of the crimp terminal 1B, rises at an incline so that its height increases continuously from the base 31 toward the contact portion 10. However, as shown in Fig. 4(b), the locking body 33C is cut and raised from the base 31, and is also bent so that its side cross section is Z-shaped. Due to this bending, the locking surface 35C of the locking body 33C is provided on the surface side facing the base 31. As shown in Fig. 4(b), the fold 102 of the electric cable 100 comes into contact with the locking surface 35C of the locking body 33C when placed on the base 31. That is, the fold 102 is locked to the locking body 33C in a state where it is sandwiched between the base 31 and the locking surface 35C of the locking body 33C.

[0035] [Effects of crimp terminal 1C] In addition to providing the same effects as those of crimp terminal 1A, crimp terminal 1C provides the following effects: Since crimp terminal 1C is locked to locking body 33C in a state where fold 102 is sandwiched between base 31 and locking surface 35C of locking body 33C, core wire 101 is unlikely to come out of the locked state even if crimp terminal 1C is subjected to vibration. Furthermore, the crimp terminal 1C has the following effect over the crimp terminal 1B. That is, the crimp terminal 1B has a punched hole 36 below the locking surface 35B in the figure where the base 31 does not exist, but the base 31 of the crimp terminal 1C does not have such a hole, so that the strength of the base 31 is increased.

[0036] [Fourth embodiment: FIG. 5] Next, a crimp terminal 1D according to a fourth embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to FIG. [Structure of crimp terminal 1D: Figure 5] As shown in Fig. 5(a) and (b), the crimp terminal 1D includes a locking body 33D that locks a fold 102 of the electric cable 100. Unlike the crimp terminals 1A to 1C, the locking body 33D extends from the front (F) on the contact portion 10 side to the rear (B) on the crimp portion 30 side. The locking body 33D rises in the height direction Z at its rear end to form a first locking surface 35D1 facing the contact portion 10 side and a second locking surface 35D2 intersecting with the first locking surface 35D1. As shown in Fig. 5(b), the fold 102 of the electric cable 100 is locked to the first locking surface 35D1 in a state where it is placed on the second locking surface 35D2 away from the base 31.

[0037] [Effects of 1D crimp terminals] In addition to providing the same effects as those of crimp terminal 1A, crimp terminal 1D provides the following effects: That is, with crimp terminal 1D, core wire 101 including fold 102 is locked by locking body 33D in a state separated from base 31. Therefore, even if crimp terminal 1D is subjected to vibration, impact, external force, or the like, core wire 101 is not likely to come out of the locked state because it is not subjected to vibration from base 31.

[0038] [Fifth embodiment: FIG. 6] Next, a crimp terminal 1E according to a fifth embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to FIG. As shown in Fig. 6(a) and (b), the crimp terminal 1E includes a locking body 33E that locks the fold 102 of the electric cable 100. As shown in Fig. 6(b), the locking body 33E has a portion extending from the upper end of the locking body 33D of the crimp terminal 1D toward the front (F) on the side of the contact portion 10, and thus requires a U-shaped cross section. As shown in Fig. 6(b), the fold 102 of the electric cable 100 includes the U-shaped locking body 33E, which includes a first locking surface 35E1 facing the contact portion 10, one end of the first locking surface 35E1 in the height direction Z, a second locking surface 35E2 extending from the upper end in Fig. 6(b) to the contact portion 10, and a third locking surface 35E3 extending from the other end in the height direction Z of the first locking surface 35E1, and the lower end in Fig. 6(b) toward the contact portion 10. The fold 102 is engaged exclusively with the first engaging surface 35E1 in an area surrounded from three directions by the first engaging surface 35E1, the second engaging surface 35E2 and the third engaging surface 35E3.

[0039] [Effects of crimp terminal 1E] In addition to providing the same effects as the crimp terminal 1D, the crimp terminal 1E is engaged with the first engagement surface 35E1 in an area surrounded from three directions, so that the core wire 101 is less likely to come out of the engaged state even if the crimp terminal 1E is subjected to vibration.

[0040] [Sixth embodiment: FIG. 7] Next, a crimp terminal 1F according to a sixth embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to FIG. [Structure of crimp terminal 1F: Figure 7] As shown in Figs. 7(a) and (b), the crimp terminal 1F includes a locking body 33F that locks the fold 102 of the electric cable 100. The locking body 33F has a U-shaped cross section, similar to the locking body 33F of the crimp terminal 1E, and includes a first locking surface 35F1 facing the contact portion 10, and a second locking surface 35F2 extending from one end of the first locking surface 35F1 in the height direction Z, that is, the upper end in Fig. 7(b), toward the contact portion 10. The second locking surface 35F2 faces downward in Fig. 7(b), that is, toward the base portion 31. In addition, the locking body 33F has a third locking surface 35F3 that is continuous with the second locking surface 35F2 and faces the first locking surface 35F1. In this manner, in the locking body 33F, the wall covering the fold 102 is provided from the first locking surface 35F1 at the rear (B) to the third locking surface 35F3 at the front (F).

[0041] [Effects of crimp terminal 1F] In addition to providing the same effects as those of the crimp terminal 1E, the crimp terminal 1F provides the following effects: A wall covering the fold 102 is provided from the first locking surface 35F1 at the front (F) to the third locking surface 35F3 at the rear (B), thereby forming a shape that makes it difficult for the core wire 101 to come out of the locked state.

[0042] In addition to the above, the configurations described in the above embodiments can be selected or changed to other configurations as appropriate without departing from the spirit of the present disclosure. In the present embodiment described above, an example has been described in which the pair of core wires 101 are independently crimped by the core wire barrels 37, 37, and the pair of electrical insulating coatings 103 are independently crimped by the coating barrels 39, 39, but the present disclosure is not limited to this. For example, the pair of core wires 101 can be collectively crimped by one core wire barrel, or the pair of electrical insulating coatings 103 can be collectively crimped by one coating barrel 39. Even in this case, the pair of core wires 101 are crimped and the pair of electrical insulating coatings 103 are crimped, which contributes to improving the holding force. [Explanation of symbols]
