Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the session initiation protocol (SIP), and in particular to a method and a SIP node for providing a generic framework for managing custom subscriptions over SIP. [Background technology]

[0002] Since the commercialization of the 4G communication system, efforts have been made to develop improved 5G or pre-5G communication systems to meet the growing demand for wireless data traffic. Therefore, 5G or pre-5G communication systems are also called "Beyond 4G Networks" or "Post LTE Systems". It is considered that the 5G communication system will be embodied in a higher frequency (mmWave) band, for example, the 60 GHz band, in order to achieve higher data rates. In order to reduce the propagation loss of wireless waveforms and extend the transmission distance, beamforming, massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO), full dimensional MIMO (FD-MIMO), array antenna, analog beam forming, and large scale antenna technologies are being discussed in the 5G communication system. In addition, in the 5G communication system, development is underway to improve the system network based on advanced small cells, cloud Radio Access Networks (cloud RAN), ultra-dense networks, device to device (D2D) communications, wireless backhauls, moving networks, cooperative communications, CoMP (Coordinated Multi-Points), receiver interference cancellation, etc.In the 5G system, hybrid FSK and QAM Modulation (FQAM) and sliding window superposition coding (SWSC) as advanced coding modulation (ACM), and filter bank multi carrier (FBMC), non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), and sparse code multiple access (SCMA) as advanced access techniques have been developed.

[0003] The Internet is currently evolving from a human-centered connected network where humans generate and consume information to the Internet of Things (IoT) where distributed entities such as things exchange and process information without human intervention. The Internet of Everything (IoE) has emerged, combining IoT technology with big data processing technology through connection to cloud servers. To realize the IoT, technological elements such as "sensing technology," "wired and wireless communication and network infrastructure," "service interface technology," and "security technology" are required, so sensor networks, M2M (Machine to Machine) communication, MTC (Machine Type Communication), etc. have been researched recently. Such an IoT environment can provide intelligent Internet technology services that create new value in human life by collecting and analyzing data generated between connected things. Through the fusion and combination of existing information technology (IT) and various industrial applications, the IoT may be applied to various fields such as smart homes, smart buildings, smart cities, smart cars or connected cars, smart grids, healthcare, smart appliances, and advanced medical services.

[0004] Accordingly, various attempts are being made to apply 5G communication systems to IoT networks. For example, technologies such as sensor networks, machine type communication (MTC), and M2M communication can be implemented by beamforming, MIMO, and array antennas. The application of cloud Radio Access Networks (RANs) as the aforementioned big data processing technology is also considered as an example of the fusion of 5G technology and IoT technology.

[0005] In the existing SIP-based subscribe mechanism, a user requests an event package in a subscribe request to subscribe to event data (e.g., conference data, location data, sensor data, etc.) from a server. According to RFC3265, a user (subscriber) can have exactly one event header (event package) in a subscribe request, which indicates the event data or event data class to which the user wants to subscribe. FIG. 1 is a sequence diagram showing the existing SIP-based subscribe mechanism according to the prior art disclosed in this specification. In steps 1-2, a client SIP node 10 sends a SIP SUBSCRIBE request to subscribe to specific event data from a server SIP node 20. The subscribe request includes an event package (event report request). In steps 3-5, a specific event occurs in the server SIP node 20, and the server SIP node 20 sends a notification SIP NOTIFY message (event report) associated with the subscribed specific event data to the client SIP node 10.

[0006] Additionally, there are limited useful event packages according to the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), and there are some servers in the world that have other types of useful data (e.g., location data, sensor data, etc.) that do not have an IANA-registered event package associated with them. For example, if any authorized user wants to subscribe to another user's device location, there is no useful event package. Similarly, there is no useful event package for any authorized user to subscribe to temperature sensor data. Also, defining and standardizing new event packages requires a significant amount of time.

[0007] In another example, the service enabler architecture layer (SEAL) provides services that can be used by multiple vertical applications. One such service provided by SEAL is a location management service that allows a Vertical Application Layer (VAL) server to manage location information of VAL users. The location management service allows a VAL server to subscribe to location information of VAL users. However, there is no useful standard SIP event package that can be used with a SIP-based subscription mechanism.

[0008] In general, a user (e.g., client SIP node 10, VAL server, user equipment (UE)) can request an event package in a subscribe request to subscribe to any event data from a server (e.g., server SIP node 20, SEAL server). Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0009] Regardless of whether an event package is useful, there is no mechanism by which a user can subscribe to any type of data via SIP. It would therefore be desirable to address the aforementioned shortcomings or at least provide a useful alternative. [Means for solving the problem]

[0010] The primary objective of the embodiments herein is to provide a general framework for managing custom subscriptions by sending at least one request including multiple parameters to a server for any type of data over SIP, regardless of whether an event package is available. Custom subscriptions are managed using the multiple parameters by creating a custom subscription, modifying a custom subscription, deleting a custom subscription, notifying a custom subscription, and terminating a custom subscription.

[0011] Another objective of an embodiment of the present invention is to provide a subscription to a location management service associated with a SEAL location management server (SLM-S) via SIP, regardless of whether an event package is available. The SLM-S allows the VAL server to manage the location information of a VAL user using multiple parameters.
