Abstract

To provide systems and methods for video coding using generalized bi-prediction.SOLUTION: A video encoding method comprises: for at least a current block in a current image, encoding block-level information identifying a first weight and a second weight, where at least one of the first and second weights has a value not equal to 0, 0.5 or 1; and predicting the current block as a weighted sum of a first reference block in a first reference image and a second reference block in a second reference image, where the first reference block is weighted by the first weight and the second reference block is weighted by the second weight. Encoding the block-level information includes mapping a weight index to a codeword using a truncated unary code, and entropy-encoding the codeword in a bitstream.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
