Mode for Carrying Out the Invention

[0014] [First Embodiment] FIG. 1 shows a configuration example of a product reading system 100 according to the first embodiment of the present invention.

[0015] The product reading system 100 includes a product reading means 110 and a reading position specifying means 120. In FIG. 1, each block included in the product reading system 100 shows a configuration in terms of functional units. Therefore, each block included in the product reading system 100 shown in FIG. 1 may be implemented in a single device, or may be separately implemented in a plurality of devices.

[0016] The product reading means 110 is attached to a gate (not shown). Then, the product reading means 110 reads product information from a wireless tag within the reading range. The wireless tag stores the product information. Also, the wireless tag is attached to the product corresponding to the product information stored.

[0017] The product information is information for identifying a product in the store where the product reading system 100 is installed. The product information may include an ID (Identification) assigned to each product, the product price, and the like.

[0018] The reading position specifying means 120 specifies the reading position from an image including the gate and the customer.

[0019] When the reading position is specified by the reading position specifying means 120, the product reading means 110 executes reading in a reading method based on the reading position.

[0020] The operation of the product reading system according to the first embodiment will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 2 is a flowchart showing an example of the operation of the product reading system according to the first embodiment.

[0021] The reading position specifying means 120 acquires an image including the gate and the customer (step S10) and specifies the reading position (step S11). Then, the product reading means 110 performs reading in a reading method based on the reading position specified by the reading position specifying means 120 (step S12).

[0022] In the product reading system according to the first embodiment, the wireless tag is read in a reading method based on the reading position specified from the image including the gate and the customer. Thereby, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0023] [Second Embodiment] In the second embodiment, the product reading system 200 of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Hereinafter, the same components as those in the first embodiment are denoted by the same reference numerals, and the description of overlapping parts will be omitted.

[0024] FIG. 3 shows a configuration example of the product reading system 200 according to the second embodiment of the present invention. The product reading system 200 includes a gate 210, a product reading means 110, a reading position specifying means 120, and an image acquisition means 130. In FIG. 3, each block included in the product reading system 200 shows a configuration in terms of functional units. Therefore, each block included in the product reading system 200 shown in FIG. 3 may be implemented in a single device, or may be separately implemented in a plurality of devices. Further, at least one of the reading position specifying means 120 and the image acquisition means 130 may be configured to be included in the gate 210.

[0025] The gate 210 includes a product reading means 110. The gate includes a passage through which a customer passes while holding a product. The product reading means 110 transmits a reading radio wave for reading a wireless tag and forms a reading range within the gate 210.

[0026] Figure 4 is an orthographic projection view of the gate 210. Figure 4(a) is a top view, Figure 4(b) is a right side view, and Figure 4(c) is a front view. The gate 210 in Figure 4 is composed of a pair of casings 211. A customer with a commodity passes between the pair of casings 211. The gate 210 shown in Figure 4 is an example, and in addition to this, a gate in which at least one of the upper and lower parts of the pair of casings 211 shown in Figure 4 is connected may also be used.

[0027] The casing 211 is provided with a commodity reading antenna 212. The commodity reading antenna 212 is an example of the commodity reading means 110. In Figure 4, as an example, each of the pair of casings 211 is provided with one commodity reading antenna 212, but the number of commodity reading antennas 212 is not limited to this.

[0028] The commodity reading antenna 212 emits a reading radio wave for reading a wireless tag and forms a reading range within the gate 210. A schematic diagram of the reading range is shown in Figure 5. Figure 5 is a front view of the gate 210. The commodity reading antennas 212 provided in each of the pair of casings 211 emit a reading radio wave toward the area where the customer passes and form a reading range 213. When a wireless tag enters within this reading range 213, the reading of the wireless tag is executed. As an example, the direction in which the commodity reading antenna 212 in Figure 5 emits the reading radio wave is set to emit the reading radio wave toward the casing 211 that is paired with the casing 211 provided with the commodity reading antenna 212.

[0029] The image acquisition means 130 acquires an image including the gate 210 and a customer who is about to pass through the gate 210. Here, the image acquired by the image acquisition means 130 may be an image including the gate 210 and a customer who is passing through the gate 210. The image acquisition means 130 may be externally attached to the gate 210 as an external device, or may be provided in the gate 210. Further, it may be an in-store camera that photographs the inside of the store. The in-store camera may be a security camera attached to the ceiling or wall surface inside the store.

[0030] The determination of customers attempting to pass through gate 210 may be performed by the image acquisition means 130 or by a determination means (not shown). As an example of the determination, it is conceivable to determine a customer within a predetermined distance from gate 210 as a customer attempting to pass through gate 210. Also, a customer whose traveling direction is towards gate 210 may be determined as a customer attempting to pass through gate 210. As another example, a customer whose line of sight is towards gate 210 may be determined as a customer attempting to pass through gate 210. The determination criteria described here are just examples and are not limited to these. Also, the determination may be made by combining the examples of the judgment described here.

[0031] The reading position specifying means 120 specifies the reading position from the image acquired by the image acquisition means 130. For example, the reading position specifying means 120 recognizes the merchandise carried by the customer included in the image and specifies the position of the merchandise as the reading position. Also, the article carried by the customer included in the image may be recognized and the position of the article may be specified as the reading position. The article carried by the customer is, for example, a bag or a shopping basket in which the customer can store merchandise.

[0032] As another example of specifying the reading position by the reading position specifying means 120, the reading position may be specified from the skeleton of the customer included in the image. When the customer is carrying merchandise, the merchandise is likely to be held by the hand or carried by the arm. Therefore, the skeleton of the customer may be recognized from the image acquired by the image acquisition means 130, and the position of the customer's hand or arm may be specified as the reading position.

[0033] Also, as another example of specifying the reading position by the reading position specifying means 120, the reading position may be specified from the height of the customer included in the image. The position where the customer holds the merchandise varies depending on the height of the customer. Therefore, the height of the customer may be recognized from the image acquired by the image acquisition means 130, and the reading position may be specified according to the height of the customer.

[0034] The reading position specifying means 120 may specify the reading position by combining the image acquired by the image acquisition means 130 with other information. An example of the information to be combined is the received signal strength of the wireless tag. By combining the image and the received signal strength, the position of the wireless tag to be read can be recognized with higher accuracy, and a more appropriate reading position can be specified. The information to be combined with the image is not limited to the received signal strength, and any information for specifying the reading position may be used.

[0035] When the reading position is specified by the reading position specifying means 120, the product reading means 110 executes reading in a reading method based on the specified reading position.

[0036] As an example of the reading method based on the reading position, for example, when the reading position is deviated in the height direction of the reading range 213 shown in FIG. 5, the product reading means 110 changes the reading range in the height direction so as to include the reading position. Here, the height direction may be represented by coordinates perpendicular to the floor surface, or may be represented by vertical coordinates.

[0037] The change of the reading range when the reading position is outside the reading range 213 shown in FIG. 5 will be described with reference to FIGS. 6A to 6E. In FIG. 6A, the height of the reading position specified by the reading position specifying means 120 is indicated by a black circle. In FIG. 6A, since the height of the reading position is outside the reading range 213, the product reading means 110 changes the reading range so as to include the height of the reading position. As an example of the change of the reading range, the direction in which the product reading antenna 212 emits the reading radio wave is changed. FIG. 6B is a schematic diagram of the reading range when the direction in which the product reading antenna 212 emits the reading radio wave is changed. In FIG. 6A, since the height of the reading position is above the reading range 213, in FIG. 6B, the direction of the product reading antenna 212 is set upward so that the reading range 213 includes the height of the reading position.

[0038] Thus, when the height of the reading position is outside the reading range, by changing the orientation of the product reading means to change the reading range, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0039] Also, when the product reading antenna 212 is designed to be movable within the housing 211, as another example of changing the reading range, it is conceivable to change the position of the product reading antenna 212 within the housing 211. FIG. 6C is a schematic diagram of the reading range when the position of the product reading antenna 212 within the housing 211 is changed. In FIG. 6C, by moving the product reading antenna 212 along the rail 214, the reading range 213 includes the height of the reading position.

[0040] Thus, when the height of the reading position is outside the reading range, by changing the position of the product reading means to change the reading range, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0041] Also, when a plurality of product reading antennas 212 are provided, as another example of changing the reading range, it is conceivable to switch the product reading antenna 212 that emits the reading radio wave. FIG. 6D is a schematic diagram when the housing 211 is provided with a plurality of product reading antennas 212 and the reading range is changed by switching the product reading antenna 212 that emits the reading radio wave. In FIG. 6D, by the product reading antenna 212 provided above the product reading antenna 212 that emitted the reading radio wave in FIG. 6A emitting the reading radio wave, the reading range 213 includes the height of the reading position.

[0042] Thus, when the height of the reading position is outside the reading range, by switching the product reading means that emits the reading radio wave to change the reading range, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0043] Also, when radio wave reflection means is provided, as another example of changing the reading range, it is conceivable to change the angle of the radio wave reflection means. FIG. 6E is a schematic diagram when the housing 211 is provided with radio wave reflection means and the reading range is changed by reflecting the reading radio wave with the radio wave reflection means. In FIG. 6E, by changing the angle of the radio wave reflection means 215, the reading range 213 includes the height of the reading position.

[0044] In this way, when the height of the reading position is outside the reading range, by changing the reading range with the radio wave reflection means, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0045] Furthermore, when the height of the reading position is outside the reading range and there are no persons other than the customer around the customer trying to pass through the gate 210, the product reading antenna 212 may increase the output intensity of the transmitted reading radio wave. In this case, by increasing the output intensity, the reading range can be expanded so that the reading range includes the reading position.

[0046] In this way, when the height of the reading position is outside the reading range, by increasing the output intensity of the reading radio wave, the reading range can be expanded, and the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved. Also, increasing the output intensity of the reading radio wave is only done when there are no persons other than the customer around the customer trying to pass through the gate, so the risk of false detection is not increased.

[0047] As an example of the reading method based on the reading position, the case where the height of the reading position is outside the reading range has been described, but the same applies when the reading position in the horizontal direction is outside the reading range in addition to the height direction. That is, when a customer passes through the gate 210, if the reading position is expected to pass outside the reading range, or if the reading position is passing outside the reading range, the reading range is changed.

[0048] The operation of the product reading system 200 according to the second embodiment will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 7 is a flowchart showing an example of the operation of the product reading system 200 according to the second embodiment.

[0049] First, the image acquisition means 130 acquires an image including the gate 210 and a customer who is about to pass through the gate 210 or a customer who is passing through the gate 210 (step S20). Then, the reading position specifying means 120 specifies the reading position from the image acquired by the image acquisition means 130 (step S21).

[0050] When it is predicted that the specified reading position will pass outside the reading range, or when the reading position is passing outside the reading range (YES in step S22), the product reading means 110 changes the reading range (step S23) and performs reading (step S24). On the other hand, when it is predicted that the specified reading position will pass inside the reading range, or when the reading position is passing inside the reading range (NO in step S22), the process proceeds to step S24.

[0051] In the product reading system according to the second embodiment, the wireless tag is read in a reading method based on the reading position specified from an image including the gate 210 and a customer who is about to pass through the gate or a customer who is passing through the gate. Thereby, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0052] As an example of the reading method based on the reading position, the reading range is changed by changing the orientation of the product reading means. Thereby, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0053] As an example of the reading method based on the reading position, the reading range is changed by changing the position of the product reading means. Thereby, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0054] As an example of a reading method based on the reading position, the reading range is changed by switching the product reading means that emits the reading radio wave. Thereby, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0055] As an example of a reading method based on the reading position, the reading range is changed by the radio wave reflection means. Thereby, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0056] As an example of a reading method based on the reading position, the reading range can be expanded by increasing the output intensity of the reading radio wave. Thereby, the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved. Further, increasing the output intensity of the reading radio wave is done when there are no persons other than the customer around the customer trying to pass through the gate, so that the risk of false detection is not increased.

[0057] [Third Embodiment] The product reading system 300 in the third embodiment is different from the product reading system 200 in the second embodiment in that it includes a notification means 310. Hereinafter, the same components as those in the second embodiment will be denoted by the same reference numerals and the description thereof will be omitted.

[0058] FIG. 8 shows a configuration example of a product reading system 300 according to the third embodiment of the present invention. The product reading system 300 includes a gate 210, a product reading means 110, a reading position specifying means 120, an image acquisition means 130, and a notification means 310. In FIG. 8, each block included in the product reading system 300 shows a configuration in terms of functional units. Therefore, each block included in the product reading system 300 shown in FIG. 8 may be mounted in a single device, or may be separately mounted in a plurality of devices. Further, at least one of the reading position specifying means 120, the image acquisition means 130, and the notification means 310 may be configured to be included in the gate 210.

[0059] In the product reading system 300 in the third embodiment, the product reading means 110 does not execute reading when a predetermined condition is not satisfied.

[0060] As an example of the predetermined conditions, when the customer passes through the gate 210, it is expected that the reading position specified by the reading position specifying means 120 passes through the inside of the reading range, or the reading position specified by the reading position specifying means 120 is passing through the inside of the reading range.

[0061] Also, as another example of the predetermined conditions, it is determined that the wireless tag can be read by changing the reading range by the method described in the second embodiment.

[0062] When the product reading means 110 stops the execution of reading, the notification means 310 notifies the customer. The notification may be a voice notification, a notification by displaying a video or a still image, or may notify by lighting or flashing the light emitting part. Further, these notification methods may be combined.

[0063] The content of the notification includes, but is not limited to, guiding the customer to a manned cash register or a nearby store clerk, prompting to change the position where the product is held, prompting to pass through the gate 210 again, etc. Further, the notification means may notify the store clerk, or may notify both the customer and the store clerk.

[0064] Also, the content of the notification to the customer may be changed based on the reading position. As the notification content based on the reading position, for example, when the reading position is high, it is conceivable to perform a notification prompting to lower the position of the product. On the other hand, when the reading position is low, it is conceivable to perform a notification prompting to raise the position of the product. Also, when the reading position cannot be specified, it is conceivable to perform a notification to wait until the store clerk responds. Further, when the reading position cannot be specified, it may be configured to perform both notification to the customer and notification to the store clerk.

[0065] The operation of the product reading system 300 according to the third embodiment will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 9 is a flowchart showing an example of the operation of the product reading system 300 according to the third embodiment.

[0066] First, the image acquisition means 130 acquires an image including the gate 210 and a customer who is about to pass through the gate 210 or a customer who is passing through the gate 210 (step S30). Then, the reading position specifying means 120 specifies the reading position from the image acquired by the image acquisition means 130 (step S31).

[0067] When it is determined to cancel the reading based on the specified reading position (YES in step S32), the product reading means 110 cancels the execution of the reading (step S33), and the notification means 310 notifies the customer (step S34). On the other hand, when the reading is not canceled (NO in step S32), the product reading means 110 executes the reading (step S35).

[0068] In the product reading system according to the third embodiment, based on the reading position specified from an image including the gate and a customer who is about to pass through the gate or a customer who is passing through the gate, the execution of reading the wireless tag is canceled and the customer is notified. As a result, appropriate responses to the customer can be promoted, and the reading accuracy of product information in the product reading system can be improved.

[0069] [Modification Example 1] As a modification of the product reading system disclosed in the first to third embodiments, the product reading system may further include a settlement means. The settlement means performs settlement for purchasing the product based on the information of the wireless tag read by the product reading means 110. The settlement may be made in cash or may be an electronic settlement such as a credit card or code settlement.

[0070] In addition, the product reading system may be provided with customer identification means. The customer identification means identifies the customers passing through the gate 210. As an example of identification by the customer identification means, biometric authentication such as face authentication or fingerprint authentication may be performed, or authentication may be performed by obtaining identification information capable of identifying the customer. When performing customer authentication by face authentication, the image acquired by the image acquisition means 130 may be used.

[0071] Examples of obtaining identification information capable of identifying a customer include, but are not limited to, reading a membership card, reading a code displayed on a mobile terminal possessed by the customer, and inputting a membership number.

[0072] When the customer identification means is provided, the customer identified by the customer identification means may be associated with and stored with the product information read from the wireless tag by the product reading means 110. Also, the identification information acquired by the customer identification means may be associated with and stored with the product information read from the wireless tag by the product reading means 110.

[0073] When the product reading system is provided with both payment means and customer identification means, the payment means may execute payment using the payment method associated with the customer identified by the customer identification means. In this case, since the customer can complete the payment just by passing through the gate 210, it is convenient. Also, since the product reading accuracy of the product reading system disclosed in the first to third embodiments can be improved, it is also possible to reduce the labor of confirming the purchased products by the store clerk after the payment by the payment means.

[0074] Further, the association between the customer and the product information may be performed at gate 210, and the payment may be made by a payment means provided separately from gate 210. In this case, the payment means may also be provided with a customer identification means. For example, when the customer passes through gate 210, the association between the customer and the product information is performed. Then, the customer is identified by the customer identification means provided in the payment means, and the payment is made using the product information associated with the identified customer. Even in such a case, by applying the product reading system of the present disclosure, the reading accuracy of the product information can be improved, so that the risk of payment leakage due to reading omission can be reduced.

[0075] [Modification Example 2] As a modification of the product reading system disclosed in the first to third embodiments, the product reading system may further include a product information acquisition means. The product information acquisition means acquires information regarding the product held by the customer. As an example of information acquisition by the product information acquisition means, the customer may be identified by biometric authentication or reading of customer identification information, and the product information associated with the identified customer may be acquired. Further, the product information acquisition means may acquire the product information by reading a code indicating the product information.

[0076] The information acquired by the product information acquisition means is, for example, information on the product for which the payment has been completed by the customer. In this case, it is possible to determine whether the product information read from the wireless tag by the product reading means 110 matches the product information acquired by the product information acquisition means.

[0077] For example, the customer completes the payment before passing through gate 210 and passes through gate 210 when leaving the store. By doing so, it is possible to determine whether the product for which the payment has been completed when the customer leaves the store matches the product that the customer is trying to take out of the store, and it is possible to detect unauthorized removal of the product. Further, by the product reading system disclosed in the first to third embodiments, the reading accuracy of the product information can be improved, so that the detection accuracy of unauthorized removal can also be improved.

[0078] In each embodiment of the present disclosure, each component of each product reading system represents a functional unit block. Some or all of the components in each product reading system are realized by a combination of hardware and programs. FIG. 10 is a block diagram illustrating the hardware configuration of an information processing apparatus 1000 capable of configuring each component in each embodiment.

[0079] The information processing apparatus 1000 includes a processor 1001, a memory 1002, a network interface 1003, an input / output interface 1004, and a storage device 1005, and each component of the information processing apparatus 1000 is communicably connected by a bus 1006.

[0080] The processor 1001 is realized by a CPU (Central Processing Unit), a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), or the like.

[0081] The memory 1002 is a main storage device realized by a RAM (Random Access Memory) or the like.

[0082] The network interface 1003 is an interface for connecting to a network. Here, the network is a LAN (Local Area Network) or a WAN (Wide Area Network).

[0083] The input / output interface 1004 is an interface for connecting to various input / output devices.
