AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
The protective film in touch input devices is prone to scratching or tearing, leading to water penetration and a hard tactile feel due to the rigid sensor substrate beneath, compromising waterproofness and user experience.
Method used
Incorporating a waterproof elastic layer made of materials like closed-cell foam or rubber sponge to cover the sensor unit, which blocks liquid ingress and enhances tactile feel by elastic deformation.
Benefits of technology
Improves waterproofness and provides a softer touch experience by blocking liquids and allowing elastic deformation, thus protecting the sensor unit and enhancing user interaction.

Abstract
To improve the waterproof performance and tactile feel of a touch input apparatus.SOLUTION: A touch input apparatus D1 comprises a sensor unit 300 and a water shielding layer 410. The sensor unit 300 is configured to be capable of detecting a detection target approaching the sensor unit 300 from a Z direction side. The water shielding layer 410 is constituted of an elastic body with waterproof performance, and is disposed on the Z direction side of the sensor unit 300 and covers at least a part of the sensor unit 300. Since liquids such as water and sweat are blocked by the water shielding layer and are less likely to reach the sensor unit, the waterproof performance of the touch input apparatus is improved.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2A
