A method for producing clusters of metal or metal oxide nanoparticles by surrounding individual nanoparticles made of metal or metal oxide with a solid organic compound and vaporizing the organic compound.

The use of solid saturated fatty acids to coat and vaporize nano-sized metal compound crystals addresses aggregation and impurity issues, enabling stable, pure, and individually separable nanoparticles for diverse industrial uses.

Abstract

To provide a method for producing an agglomeration of nanoparticles of not only a metal, but also a metal oxide free of impurities using an inexpensive raw material through an extremely simple treatment.SOLUTION: In a method for producing an agglomeration of nanoparticles of a metal oxide, a metal or a metal oxide is subjected to thermal decomposition and crystallization and the crystal is crushed to prepare an agglomeration of nano-sized fine crystals, which are enclosed with a solid organic compound. The fine crystals are then subjected to thermal decomposition to prepare an agglomeration of nanoparticles of a metal or a metal oxide covered with the solid organic compound. Further, the solid organic compound is subjected to thermal melting and then vaporized to prepare an agglomeration of nanoparticles of a metal or a metal oxide.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
