AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Thermochromic ink images printed on colored media become decolored and difficult to visually recognize due to the interaction with the medium's color, hindering the utilization of decolorization characteristics.

Method used

A printing apparatus with a first and second printing unit, detection and calculation units to adjust the color of the first image based on the medium's color, ensuring the second image is printed on top in a way that reduces visibility when decolored.

Benefits of technology

The apparatus effectively reduces the visibility of decolored thermochromic ink images by calculating and controlling the first image's color to enhance visibility in non-decolored states and minimize visibility in decolored states.

Abstract

To provide a technique for reducing the visibility of a discolored image when the image printed with thermochromic ink on a medium is discolored.SOLUTION: A printer according to an embodiment comprises: a first print unit; a second print unit; a detection unit; an arithmetic unit; and a print control unit. The first print unit prints a first image on a medium by using non-thermochromic ink. The second print unit prints a second image on the medium by using thermochromic ink that changes between a first color in the non-discoloration state and a second color in a discoloration state. The detection unit detects the color of the medium. The arithmetic unit calculates the color of the first image on the basis of the color of the medium and the second color. The print control unit controls the first print unit so as to print the first image on the medium in the color calculated by the arithmetic unit. The print control unit controls the second print unit so as to print the second image on the first image.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
