Abstract

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for braking of rail vehicles, in particular such an apparatus and such a method for electromechanical braking of rail vehicles. A braking system (700) for a rail vehicle (1) is disclosed, the braking system having a brake control (780), an actuator (782), a first brake path from a function active between a control input of the braking system and generation of a brake force, and a second brake path from a function active between a control input of the braking system and generation of a brake force, the brake control (780) having a first brake control unit (786) configured to provide a braking function (334) and to output a force modulation amount, the actuator (782) having a second brake control unit (790) configured to provide a braking function and to output a force modulation amount, a first actuator control unit (788) configured to provide a function of generating a friction brake force based on the force modulation amount and to output an actuation amount, a second actuator control unit (792) configured to provide a function of generating a friction brake force based on the force modulation amount and to output an actuation amount, and a brake force unit configured to provide a function of generating a friction brake force based on the actuation amount.
