Description

Electronic component and wire end holding method

[0001] The present invention relates to an electronic component having a conductor and a bent terminal for holding the end of the conductor, and to a method for holding the end of the conductor.

[0002] Patent Document 1 discloses a coil component including a conductive member (referred to as a metal terminal in the document) having a conductor wire (referred to as a wire end in the document) and a bent terminal (referred to as a folded piece in the document) that holds the end of the conductor wire. This bent terminal includes a base portion and a flat folded portion (referred to as a folded piece in the document) bent at a substantially right angle from the base portion. With the conductor wire placed on the base portion, the folded portion is crimped so that it is bent toward the base portion, thereby clamping the conductor wire.

[0003] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2019-91736

[0004] In the conductor crimping method disclosed in Patent Document 1, when the flat folded portion is bent to sandwich the conductor (during crimping), the conductor easily moves outward (away from the bending support point of the folded portion). Therefore, there is room for improvement in the electrical and physical connection between the conductor and the conductive member. This outward movement of the conductor occurs when the conductor is pressed against the bent and deformed folded portion during crimping.

[0005] The present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned problems, and provides an electronic component and a method for holding the end of a conductor, which are capable of electrically and physically stably connecting a conductor to a conductive member.

[0006] The electronic component of the present invention comprises a conductive conductor and a conductive member having a bent terminal that holds an end of the conductor, wherein the bent terminal comprises a base portion that supports the conductor, a folded portion that continues from one end side of the base portion and is bent and folded back, and a bent portion that continues from the folded portion and is provided on the tip side opposite the base portion, wherein the conductor is sandwiched between the base portion and the folded portion or the bent portion, and the bent portion is bent toward the base portion rather than in the tangent direction of the folded portion, and the gap between the bent portion and the base portion is smaller than the wire width of the conductor.

[0007] Furthermore, a conductor end holding method according to the present invention includes preparing an electronic component including a conductive conductor and a conductive member having a bent terminal for holding an end of the conductor, the bent terminal including a base portion for supporting the conductor, a folded portion continuing from one end side of the base portion and being bent and folded back, and a bent portion continuing from the folded portion and provided on a tip side opposite to the conductor, the bent portion being bent toward the conductor portion relative to a tangent direction of the folded portion; and a crimping process after the arrangement process in which the bent terminal is crimped to crush the conductor between the folded portion or the bent portion and the pedestal, wherein the gap between the bent portion and the pedestal during the arrangement process is larger than the wire width of the conductor, and the gap between the bent portion and the pedestal after the crimping process is smaller than the wire width of the conductor.

[0008] According to the present invention, an electronic component and a method for holding a conductor end portion are provided that can stably connect a conductor and a conductive member electrically and physically.

[0010] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Note that the embodiments described below are merely examples for facilitating understanding of the present invention and are not intended to limit the present invention. In other words, the shapes, dimensions, arrangements, etc. of the components described below may be changed or improved without departing from the spirit of the present invention, and the present invention naturally includes equivalents thereof. Furthermore, the various components of the present invention do not necessarily have to exist independently. It is acceptable for multiple components to be configured as a single component, for one component to be divided into multiple components, for one component to be part of another component, or for part of one component to overlap with part of another component, etc.

[0011] In addition, in all drawings, similar components are denoted by similar reference numerals, and redundant explanations are omitted where appropriate. Furthermore, although the present specification may refer to a vertical direction, this is set for the sake of convenience in explaining the relative relationships between components, and does not limit the directions during manufacture or use of the product according to the present invention. In particular, in this embodiment, the mounting direction is the upward direction, and the opposite direction is the downward direction, which does not necessarily coincide with the vertical direction in the direction of gravity.

[0012] <Overview of Coil Component> First, an overview of the coil component 1 will be described mainly with reference to Fig. 1 to Fig. 3. Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the coil component 1. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the bent terminal 6 shown in Fig. 1 II, showing the state after crimping, and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the bent terminal 6 shown in Fig. 1 II, showing the state before crimping.

[0013] 1 shows the coil component 1 in a state where the mounting surface to be mounted on a board is positioned upward, that is, in a state where the coil component 1 is oriented in the opposite direction to the general mounting direction on a board, in order to show the entire conductive member 5. In the following, the up-down direction will be described based on the up-down direction in FIG.

[0014] The electronic component (coil component 1) according to this embodiment includes a conductive conductor 3a and a conductive member 5 having a bent terminal 6 that holds an end of the conductor 3a. The bent terminal 6 includes a base portion 6a that supports the conductor 3a, a folded portion 6b that continues from one end of the base portion 6a and is bent and folded back, and a bent portion 6c that continues from the folded portion 6b and is provided on the tip side opposite the base portion 6a. The conductor 3a is sandwiched between the base portion 6a and the folded portion 6b or the bent portion 6c. The bent portion 6c is bent toward the base portion 6a relative to the tangent direction of the folded portion 6b, and the gap between the bent portion 6c and the base portion 6a is smaller than the width of the conductor 3a.

[0015] Here, the "boundary" between the folded portion 6b and the bent portion 6c is the location where the curvature changes on the tip side of the folding point of the folded portion 6b of the bent terminal 6, and refers to the tip of the folded portion 6b (in this embodiment, the tip of a straight portion 6f, which will be described later) on the outer surface (top surface) of the bent terminal 6 when viewed from a direction perpendicular to an imaginary plane (a plane that includes the up-down and left-right directions in FIG. 2) that includes the extending directions of the folded portion 6b and the bent portion 6c (the width direction of the bent terminal 6). The "tangential direction of the folded portion 6b" refers to the tangential direction at the tip of the folded portion 6b (the boundary with the bent portion 6c), and in this embodiment refers to the extending direction of the straight portion 6f, which will be described later.

[0016] Also, for example, unlike Figure 4, in a configuration in which the folded portion 6b does not include a straight portion 6f and is bent at a predetermined curvature beyond the folding point, the end of the portion that is bent at a relatively higher curvature toward the base portion 6a compared to the portion bent at this predetermined curvature is considered to be the bent portion 6c.

[0017] In this specification, the bent portion 6c does not refer only to the portion of the bent terminal 6 where the angle changes from the folded portion 6b, but also to the portion from the portion where the angle changes relative to the folded portion 6b to the tip. In other words, the bent portion 6c includes any portion that extends linearly toward the tip side of the portion where the angle changes from the folded portion 6b. This also applies to the bent portions 16c and 26c described below.

[0018] Regarding the "base portion 6a supporting the conductor 3a," the base portion 6a is not limited to a base portion that always supports the conductor 3a. In other words, the base portion 6a may be provided at a position that limits the movement of the conductor 3a, spaced apart from the conductor 3a, and abuts against and supports the conductor 3a after the crimping process.

[0019] The above phrase "the gap between the bent portion 6c and the base portion 6a is smaller than the wire width of the conductor 3a" includes a configuration in which there is no gap between the bent portion 6c and the base portion 6a. In other words, it includes a configuration in which the bent portion 6c and the base portion 6a abut against each other. The above "wire width" refers to the wire diameter in the case of a round wire, and to the thickness (the length of the short side of the cross section of the rectangular wire) in the case of a rectangular wire.

[0020] For example, if the bent terminal 6 does not have a bent portion 6c, that is, if the portion beyond the folded portion 6b extends linearly, when the bent terminal 6 is crimped, the portion beyond the folded portion 6b of the bent terminal 6 will contact the conductor 3a at a single point in a side view. This point contact location may shift depending on the amount of crimping, and the pushing load from the bent terminal 6 to the conductor 3a may tend to be always applied outward, causing the conductor 3a to shift outward and come off the bent terminal 6.

[0021] According to the above configuration, the bent portion 6c is provided so as to bend closer to the base portion 6a than in the tangential direction of the folded portion 6b, and thus the bent portion 6c serves as a stopper that restricts the movement of the conductor 3a. In other words, even if the conductor 3a is pushed out by the folded portion 6b or the bent portion 6c of the bent terminal 6 when the bent terminal 6 is bent (crimped), the bent portion 6c can prevent the conductor 3a from coming out from between the base portion 6a and the folded portion 6b or the bent portion 6c.

[0022] In this embodiment, the electronic component according to the present invention will be described taking the coil component 1 as a common mode choke coil as an example, but is not limited to such a configuration. For example, the present invention is applicable to not only the coil component 1 but also any electronic component having bent terminals that hold conductors.

[0023] The conductor end holding method according to this embodiment includes an arrangement step of preparing the above-described electronic component (coil component 1), passing the conductor 3a between the tip of the bent terminal 6 and the pedestal portion 6a, and arranging the conductor 3a between the pedestal portion 6a and the folded portion 6b or the bent portion 6c, and a crimping step of crimping the bent terminal 6 after the arrangement step to crush the conductor 3a between the folded portion 6b or the bent portion 6c and the pedestal portion 6a. The gap between the bent portion 6c and the pedestal portion 6a during the arrangement step is larger than the wire width of the conductor 3a, and the gap between the bent portion 6c and the pedestal portion 6a after the crimping step is smaller than the wire width of the conductor 3a.

[0024] According to the above configuration, the gap between the bent portion 6c and the base portion 6a during the placement process is larger than the width of the conductor 3a, allowing the conductor 3a to be placed smoothly in the placement process. Furthermore, the gap between the bent portion 6c and the base portion 6a after the crimping process is smaller than the width of the conductor 3a, preventing the conductor 3a from coming off between the base portion 6a and the folded portion 6b or the bent portion 6c after the crimping process.

[0025] In other words, by forming a bent portion 6c on the bent terminal 6 (by providing a bent portion on the base portion 6a side before the crimping process), the bent portion 6c can act as a stopper that limits the movement of the conductor 3a.

[0026] The folded portion 6b includes a linear portion 6f that extends linearly after being folded upward from the base portion 6a. The linear portion 6f of the folded portion 6b extends linearly and diagonally downward from the base end toward the tip end, in other words, slopes downward so as to approach the base portion 6a.

[0027] The inclination angle of this straight portion 6f with respect to the upper surface of the base portion 6a (a horizontal surface that contacts the conductor 3a) is preferably 2 degrees or more and 30 degrees or less, and more preferably 5 degrees or more and 25 degrees or less. The length of the straight portion 6f is preferably 1 time or more and 5 times or less, and more preferably 1.5 times or more and 3 times or less, the wire width of the conductor 3a (in the case of a rectangular wire, the length in the width direction (the longitudinal direction of the cross section of the rectangular wire)).

[0028] According to the above configuration, the conductor 3a can be constantly elastically urged by the straight portion 6f and / or the bent portion 6c, which have downwardly sloping walls, toward the rear side of the U-turn of the folded portion 6b (the side toward the folding point of the folded portion 6b, or the left side in FIG. 2 ) due to the crimping from the straight portion 6f. The conductor 3a abuts against the downwardly sloping walls, preventing the conductor 3a from moving freely within the bending space of the bent portion 6b. This ensures that the holding position of the conductor 3a is consistent and consistent for each individual product, making it easy for the operator or the working device to cut the conductor 3a to align with the end of the conductive member 5 and determine the position for laser irradiation.

[0029] In particular, since the portion that holds the conductor 3a is a straight portion in the straight portion 6f or the bent portion 6c, it becomes easier to apply a load in the clamping direction to the conductor 3a between the base portion 6a and the straight portion in the straight portion 6f or the bent portion 6c, thereby increasing the holding force on the conductor 3a and stabilizing the position of the conductor 3a during laser irradiation as described below.

[0030] [Overall configuration] The coil component 1 according to this embodiment includes a drum core 2, a coil 3 formed of a conductor 3 a wound around the center of the drum core 2, an I-core 4 connected to both ends of the drum core 2 to form a magnetic circuit together with the drum core 2, and a conductive member 5 to which the ends of the conductor 3 a are connected.

[0031] Four conductive members 5 are provided at each of the four corners of the top surface of the coil component 1, and have bent terminals 6 that clamp ends of the conductive wires 3a of the coil 3 on the outer sides in the width direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the coil 3. The conductive member 5 has a mounting plane on its uppermost surface that is mounted on a printed circuit board, bridge portions that extend downward and outward in the width direction from the mounting plane, and bent terminals 6 connected to the bridge portions.

[0032] 2 and 3, the bent terminal 6 will be described. The bent terminal 6 has a base portion 6a on which the conductor wire 3a is placed and which extends horizontally from the lower end of the bridging portion, a folded portion 6b folded back from the inside to the outside in the width direction of the coil component 1 (in a horizontal plane, a direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the coil 3), and a bent portion 6c located closer to the tip than the folded portion 6b.

[0033] At the four corners of the top surface of the coil component 1 in Fig. 1 , the ends of the conducting wires 3 a are welded to the ends of the conductive members 5 on both axially outer sides, thereby forming weld beads as shown in Fig. 1 . Before welding, bent terminals 6 were formed on both axially outer sides of the conductive members 5, but these were melted by welding to form the weld beads. However, this configuration is not limited to this, and the bent terminals 6 are not limited to being formed two at each of the four corners of the top surface of the coil component 1 in Fig. 1 , but only one may be formed. Furthermore, for example, only two bent terminals 6 may be formed on the coil component 1.

[0034] 2, the bending angle θ of the bending portion 6c is preferably 25 degrees or more and 45 degrees or less with respect to the tangential direction of the folded portion 6b (the portion of the folded portion 6b adjacent to the bending portion 6c). In this embodiment, the folded portion 6b has a straight portion 6f, and the bending portion 6c also has a straight portion, and the bending angle θ refers to the angle of the straight portion of the bending portion 6c with respect to the extending direction of the straight portion 6f of the folded portion 6b (the same as the tangential direction of the portion adjacent to the bending portion 6c).

[0035] According to the above configuration, since the bending portion 6c (the first bending portion 16d described later) is in this angle range, the movement range of the conductor 3a is limited, and even if the tip of the bent terminal 6 abuts against the base portion 6a, the reaction force generated at the time of abutment is suppressed, thereby preventing the crimping work from being hindered.

[0036] Specifically, the "tangential direction of the folded portion 6b" refers to the tangential direction of the outer surface of the folded portion 6b (the upper surface, which is the surface that is pressed by the punch of a crimping machine, not shown) when viewed from a direction perpendicular to an imaginary plane that includes the extending directions of the folded portion 6b and the bent portion 6c. However, the present invention is not limited to this configuration, and the bending angle of the bent portion 6c may be perpendicular to the tangential direction of the folded portion 6b as long as the purpose is to regulate the position of the conductor 3a.

[0037] The length of the bent portion 6c is preferably 0.5 to 2 times the thickness of the bent portion 6c, more preferably 1 time or more, and even more preferably 1.5 times or less. Here, the "length of the bent portion 6c" refers to the length of the central portion of the bent portion 6c in the thickness direction.

[0038] For example, the thickness of the bent portion 6c (plate thickness of the bent terminal 6) in this embodiment is 0.1 mm, and the length of the bent portion 6c is 0.15 mm. According to the above configuration, when the length of the bent portion 6c is 0.5 times or more the thickness of the bent portion 6c, movement of the conductor 3a can be easily restricted, and when the length is 2 times or less the thickness of the bent portion 6c, protrusion can be suppressed. Note that the bent portion 6c may be shorter than the above length by increasing the bending angle of the bent portion 6c with respect to the tangent line of the folded portion 6b.

[0039] The thickness of the folded portion 6b is preferably 1.5 to 3 times the diameter of the conductor 3a. For example, the diameter of the conductor 3a is preferably 0.02 to 0.06 mm. Although the conductor 3a in this embodiment is a round wire, it is not limited to a round wire and may be a rectangular wire. In the case of a rectangular wire, the diameter of the conductor 3a is interpreted as the thickness (vertical length) of the conductor 3a.

[0040] According to the above configuration, by making the diameter 1.5 times or more the diameter of the conductor 3a, the conductor 3a can be held in place, and by making the diameter 3 times or less, the bending portion 6c formed integrally with the folded portion 6b can be easily bent during crimping.

[0041] [Manufacturing Method] Next, a method for manufacturing the bent terminal 6 for holding the conductor wire 3a will be described. The plurality of conductive members 5 are formed on a hoop material (not shown). The plurality of conductive members 5 are punched out by press working at the raw sheet stage to form the bent terminal 6 with the bent portion 6c as shown in FIG. 3 .

[0042] Specifically, with regard to the above press processing, a crimping machine (not shown) is used to bend the bent portion 6c by pressing the punch of the crimping machine against the bent portion 6c from above, with a jig placed below the folded portion 6b and above the base portion 6a.

[0043] The conductive member 5 is adhered to the drum core 2 (ferrite) and wound around the drum core 2 to form the coil 3 (two coils 3 in this embodiment). The conductor wires 3a (four conductor wires 3a in this embodiment) that are the terminals of the coil 3 are disposed between the base portion 6a and the bent portion 6c of the bent terminal 6.

[0044] The conductor 3a drawn from the coil 3 is first fixed to a jig (not shown) located outside the conductive member 5. With the conductor 3a fixed by the jig (not shown), the folded portion 6b and the bent portion 6c of the bent terminal 6 are crimped by pressing. This crimping process clamps the conductor 3a between the folded portion 6b and / or the bent portion 6c and the base portion 6a. In other words, the crimping process bends and deforms the folded portion 6b or the bent portion 6c to a position where the conductor 3a is crushed by pressure from the folded portion 6b or the bent portion 6c. This allows a stable electrical connection between the conductor 3a and the conductive member 5 to be maintained. With the conductor 3a held in this clamped state, the jig (not shown) is released from the clamping position, and the excess length of the conductor 3a is cut. Then, a laser is irradiated onto the end of the conductive member 5 and the tip of the conductor 3a to fuse them together and form a weld bead.

[0045] In the bent terminal 6, in the state before crimping shown in Figure 3, the gap between the lower end of the bent portion 6c and the upper surface of the base portion 6a is larger than the diameter of the conductor 3a. Before and after the crimping process, the rate of change in bending of the folded portion 6b of the bent terminal 6 in the axial direction of the bent terminal 6 is larger than the rate of change in bending of the folded portion 6c. Furthermore, the rate of change in bending of the folded portion 6b is larger after the crimping process than before the crimping process.

[0046] [First Modification] Next, a first modification will be described with reference to Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the bent terminal 6 shown in Fig. 1, illustrating the bent terminal 6 according to the first modification. As shown in Fig. 4, in the bent terminal 6 according to the first modification, the conductor 3a is clamped at three locations: the base portion 6a, the folded portion 6b, and the bent portion 6c. The conductor 3a is clamped between the base portion 6a, the folded portion 6b, and the bent portion 6c.

[0047] According to the above configuration, the conductor 3 a can be firmly held without play by the base portion 6 a, the folded portion 6 b, and the bent portion 6 c. In other words, by clamping the conductor 3 a at three points, the vertical movement of the conductor 3 a can be restricted by the base portion 6 a, the folded portion 6 b, and the bent portion 6 c, while the horizontal movement of the conductor 3 a can be restricted by the folded portion 6 b and the bent portion 6 c.

[0048] [Second Modification] Next, a bent portion 16c according to a second modification will be described with reference mainly to Fig. 5. Fig. 5 is a diagram showing a bent terminal 16 according to the second modification.

[0049] The bent portion 16c of the bent terminal 16 has a first bent portion 16d that bends toward the base portion 6a, and a second bent portion 16e that is located closer to the tip than the first bent portion 16d and bends in the opposite direction to the bending direction of the first bent portion 16d. The second bent portion 16e of the bent portion 16c is formed to fit along the base portion 6a.

[0050] Furthermore, the first bent portion 16d does not refer only to the portion of the bent terminal 16 where the angle changes from the folded-back portion 6b, but refers to the portion from the portion where the angle changes from the folded-back portion 6b to the second bent portion 16e. This also applies to the first bent portion 26d described below. Furthermore, the second bent portion 16e does not refer only to the portion where the angle changes from the first bent portion 16d, but refers to the portion from the portion where the angle changes from the first bent portion 16d to the tip. This also applies to the second bent portion 26e described below.

[0051] The tip end (second bent portion 16e) of bent portion 16c in this example is pressed against base portion 6a by a punch of a crimping machine (not shown), and is bent in a direction along base portion 6a. The above-mentioned "second bent portion 16e bent in the opposite direction to the bending direction of first bent portion 16d" specifically means that second bent portion 16e is bent in the opposite direction (upward with respect to the tangential direction of first bent portion 16d, horizontally in FIG. 5) to the bending direction of first bent portion 16d based on the tangential direction of folded-back portion 6b (i.e., downward in FIG. 5, which is the direction toward base portion 6a).

[0052] According to the above configuration, since the second bent portion 16e is aligned with the base portion 6a, the holding state of the conductor 3a by the bent portion 16c can be made more stable, and the conductor 3a can be prevented from slipping out of the gap between the bent portion 16c and the base portion 6a. Such a bent portion 16c is formed by pressing a punch (not shown) used for crimping against the second bent portion 16e until the second bent portion 16e presses against the base portion 6a.

[0053] It is preferable that the bent portion 16c abuts against the base portion 6a and is in pressure contact with it. Note that "abutting" is not limited to point contact or line contact, but also includes surface contact as shown in Fig. 5. With the above configuration, the conducting wire 3a is less likely to slip out of the gap between the bent portion 16c and the base portion 6a.

[0054] In this example, the first bent portion 16d and the second bent portion 16e have approximately the same length, but the length of the first bent portion 16d may be different from the length of the second bent portion 16e.

[0055] [Third Modification] Next, a bent terminal 26 according to a third modification will be described with reference to Fig. 6. Fig. 6 is a diagram showing the bent terminal 26 according to the third modification. The bent terminal 26 according to this example includes a first bent portion 26d that bends toward the base portion 6a, and a second bent portion 26e that is located closer to the tip of the first bent portion 26d and bends in the opposite direction to the bending direction of the first bent portion 26d. The lower end of the tip of the second bent portion 26e abuts against the base portion 6a and is in pressure contact (so as to form a line contact).

[0056] The above-mentioned "second bent portion 26e bent in the opposite direction to the bending direction of the first bent portion 26d" specifically means that the second bent portion 26e is bent in a bending direction opposite to the bending direction of the first bent portion 26d based on the tangent direction of the folded portion 6b (i.e., downward in Figure 6, which is the direction toward the base portion 6a) (upper side based on the tangent direction of the first bent portion 26d, and diagonally downward in Figure 6, which is inclined at a shallower angle relative to the base portion 6a than the first bent portion 26d).

[0057] In this embodiment, the second bent portion 26e is preferably formed to be longer than the first bent portion 26d. Specifically, the second bent portion 26e may be formed to be 1.5 times longer than the first bent portion 26d. In the above configuration, the lower end of the tip of the second bent portion 26e is pressed against the base portion 6a, making it difficult for the conducting wire 3a to slip out of the gap between the bent portion 26c and the base portion 6a.
